I lost a job to this game. I called in one too many times so I could stay home and play this extravaganza. I had never heard of, much less played, a Metal Gear game before getting this one. What was the importance of gainful employment compared to the newness, the wildness of imagination, the cool gameplay mechanics, my first real taste of stealthy gameplay (which I grew to love), or to the ability to hide in a box, then have a dog pee on said box to hide from other dogs? The answer? Well... the first sentence I wrote _IS_ the answer. And seeing it again is a trip. They didn't even have eyes or moving mouths back then; just brown and black smudges for eyes and head bobs when they spoke. Makes you truly appreciate today's epic artistry.
Wow the countless times I've played this and I had no idea you could use the ketchup to get out if the cell! I always hid under the bed...never ceases to amaze me how many different ways there are to progress in this game
I don't know if it's like an Easter egg, but in MGS, MGS2, MGS3, and MGS4 the frequency 141.80 is always used by someone who isn't who they claim to be and/or has some sort of hidden agenda or identity. Master Miller in MGS, Plisken/Snake in MGS2, The Boss in MGS3, and Raiden in MGS4. The Raiden one is a bit of a stretch but it's still a pretty cool detail.
I always thought it wasn´t possible to get the PSG-1 into firing Position that quick during the first Sniper Wolf Fight, thought you always had to get back into Cover if you are Hit. Impressive.

I agree. I don't think we need a remake. The more basic graphics and lack of first-person shooting mode are part of the charm, and differentiate it from the later games in the series.
1:55:00, I was a senior in high school when this came out. I remember getting so pissed off at Psycho Mantis because I couldn’t beat him. So I threw my controller and it hit the analog stick of the other controller plugged in and I saw Snake move. I said “what the…”. I thought this was the most brilliant game of the 90s. Hideo was a genius to put that in the game.
The duct Snake used was on the balcony the second story because then Snake gets the information where to go from the cut sense. That is the duct I used mostly because of that reason from the cut sense. Because I know the professional way of playing .. And I never use the one that is guarded good way to get alerted and get killed as well . Any how I know I would do a good job of playing it your way throughly .😊

Every time you enter the elevator and Ascend to the surface at the very beginning of the game and that music is playing and the title Metal Gear Solid tactical Espionage action appears over your head every hair on my body stands up!
Twin snakes on game cube tried but they where only 95% accurate I played this so much the music and voice actors Had a difference that only true fans would recognize either way I appreciated it.

A lot of early day Playstation owners had the Jampack / PS Underground demo discs and can verify that the short Metal Gear Solid demo was more action packed than most games we currently had owned(ended the monent u entered the very first air duct) The fact is, in the early sony days, the demos were the absolute best things before you had a loaded library...i started off with just Ridge Racer, then Spyro on my bday..gta1 cause my cousins had it and i loved it, and so on.
An old friend of mine had a PS1 back in the '90s. The only full game he had was Ridge Racer, and he collected a handful of demos from Playstation Magazine back when it was published. One of the demos he had was for this game, and from what I recall it ended as the DARPA Chief dropped dead and before Snake accepted the Codec call. When I finally got the full game at Christmas of 1999 it was quite a thrill to finally see what the Codec call was.
Never played this game heard if it as a child but never gave it a try decided to watch the play through at least man i can see why people love this game watching this was an emotional experience something i never felt with a game before calling hideo a genius would be an understatement this game really deserves the credit it’s constantly given i really hope there’s a movie one day

I must have played this 20 times as a child. Looking back again as an adult I forget how the majority of the game is cut-scenes and codec calls. Still an incredible game though.

The final chase part was a pain on extreme I was at the last frame before Meryl said look daylight liquid shoot me at the last second
