Hey Buddy. Another interesting video! I always learn things on your videos, keep em comin Kerry, see you hunting at your place next week, I have to ask you questions about the shape of that thing.
Add a cover to the side of the leading edge of the device. There will be a shape that does better with the airflow. It is turbulence created by the blunt surface of the side of that thing and the trailing edge of that device. Ask some fusion 360 nerd to make a shape and run it through the Fusion system to hone in the right shape.
I fly one that doesn’t retract. It sure would be nice to retract it when not in use. Less drag and less weird looks and questions when you’re on the ramp.
That mailbox did better than mine did during Milton.
Neat to see a part of the STC testing process
The FAA sure is picky to deal with.
There's nothing like a thorough and well organized product checklist!
Was cool to see this Guys. Ty for all the details and cam views.
I'm glad you liked it, even though it failed, it was still fun!
You gotta love aviation!
I love everything about aviation, especially out of the ordinary jobs.
Who knew mailboxes could fly lol. Nice video!
I know, right?
Would'nt it be better to plan for better communication technique between all on board involved?
A portable intercom would have been nice.
Thats exactly what I thought! I hurts to watch.
@@timmholzhauer3342 In their defense, things were supposed to go a lot smoother than that!
Is it Coandă Effect of airflow from the wing surface at that particular indicated airspeed causing the wind to hit the mailbox creating the vibration?
yoke shake was probably von-Karman vortex sheding off of the deployed box interfering with the horizontal stab -TimH

Max gross? was the equipment that heavy or did they load you up with sandbags?
Big steel plates. Loaded with a forklift.
i'm surprised you even went airborne with that camera arrangement. it's sooo floppy you shoulda spotted that on the ground with a quick hand-wobble ??
Very COoL. Recommend knocking ~20 mins of this puppy. Just saying
I'm a little surprised was not more aero. Has to be like a surfboard. ty
That was just a mock up. They were surprised that the shape mattered so much.
Comical test. Why would you not have comms with the operator?
This is the part of flying I love! Let's go test it. It is the only way to learn!
Correct, although I whish we would have found out it worked! Stay tuned for part 2
I like Rem oil better than LPS! But that is just me!
FYI your text at the end of the video is covered up by the “recommended video”
Oops, I was worried that wood happen. Of course I only thought of it after I posted the video!

You'll have to wait for part two to see what we do. But you're on the right track.
@@KerryDMcCauley Someone with a large 3d printer can make you what you need. Maybe you did that. Ill wait to see
I am surprised you are allowed to film flights like this.
The video actually came in really handy in post-flight analysis. A great record of what actually happened.
Prop wash
That thing looks... suspicious.
That's why it's designed to retract. Big bulky things hanging off the side of an airplane make people nervous.

Especially flying overhead. Is that a bird or a plane ? I dunno but it's getting bigger 💥
Lack of comms with the camera guy is crappy as F.
Not really any way for him to plug into the plane's intercom.
@@KerryDMcCauley That disqualifies the ability to test. My Pietenpol is better than that. And it is also a plywood box.
