I flew QueenAirs for several years in the 70s, and had many epic trips especially to the far north of Scotland, Dounreay, in a lot of bad weather.
Great aeroplane, the engines needed very careful handling especially in icing conditions. When maintained properly a reliable aircraft!
    Super in a crosswind😀
    Great memories!!!

I love it. You are correct about the engines in icing, or snow for that matter!

I had a out of balance propeller when I was doing my final solo before my PPL flight test (single engine). Aircraft was shaking a fair bit I thought it was a engine failure imminent so just headed straight back into the airport. Traffic in the pattern was kind enough to remain out of my way and uneventful landing. My usual instructor came out and said it did sound odd. We assumed some sort of engine issue but turned out the renter before me had taken the aircraft to a gravel runway and the stones had thrown the prop out of alignment.

Love it… spent the first 9 years of my life across the street (hwy 65) from Blaine airport… first flight was at age 5 in a Grumman tiger… now that I have my ppl, it’s a bucket list to fly back there someday

With all 16 cylinders popping, you can close your eyes and think a P-51 was taking off.

I love the Queen Air. It’s like a miniature airliner. I got to ride right seat in one 40 years ago on a flight from EVV to MKG and return. Unfortunately, we had the misfortune of having the nose gear collapse upon landing back at EVV. It seems the bolt the upper end of the downlock brace pivots on had sheared off. We showed 3 green before landing, but the first weight on the nose wheel allowed it to slip out and the gear to fold up. No injuries, but the poor Queen was a mess. Both freshly rebuilt props pretzeled, both low time engines had their crankshafts cracked, plus the damage to the gear itself and the nose cone. 😢

I guess that you’re a take and wait for the avionics work. Can’t think of a more fun airplane for the trip to AK. I guess you’re thinking about going after OSH so de-ice will be essential. Looking forward to more. Thanks for sharing.

Hopefully icing isn't that much of a big deal this time of year but you never know. I just want a fully mission capable airplane.
