    what's impressive is that the mission in the MI6 building from the 64 version actually got adapted in live action as a training simulation in the next film

    The N64 game is the third best 1st person shooter on the system behind Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, and it's not all that far behind either of them imo. I wish it didn't come out so late in the N64's lifecycle because it's one of the better 1st person shooters of its era.

    They both are good but N64 wins. I had a lot of memories with that game and Goldeneye. I use to play both with my dad a lot. I remember my Dad beating The World is not Enough on N64 and I thought it was so awesome when I was 11, now I'm 26 and want to go back to that game again and play it with my Dad.

    With the Exception of the Soundtrack on the PS1 version (the N64 version's soundtrack is recycles its level themes on multiple levels and the instrumentation sounds bland to my ears), the N64 version is far superior in my eyes.

    I didn't know the game existed until about 2014 when my dad gave it to me as a gift along with our old family N64.
    I was blown away that I never heard of it before. I blame it being so late in the N64 lifespan relative to Goldeneye, and PS2 having so much hype for it's release.
    I feel like it lacks the charm of Goldeneye, but it's still a perfectly fun Bond game and a worthy addition to any N64 collection.

    PS1 version does not run at a higher resolution, both run at 240p. You have to turn off dither filter with an everdrive 64 to increase the sharpness. N64 version has motion shadows on all characters, neat lighting effects, smooth and very crisp textures, much better draw distance and far superior animations. Textures on the PS1 have more detail which sounds good in theory but is negated by the blockiness of them. I can't blame the devs though, in fact the game looks very good given by the grapical 3D capabilities of the system. On top of having far superior graphics the N64 supports dual analog controls, just change the controls from standart to 1.2 solitaire. By using this control layout you can use the c buttons or d pad for movement and aim with the thumbstick.

  • @bluesy92
    @bluesy92 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The N64 version control scheme was amazing. The ability to lock on to enemies close to the center of the screen while still keeping direction if moving and not facing directly towards them made aiming and movement and strafing all with a single stick feel more natural than it had any right to be. The stop-breaks from shooting gave the gameplay a good balance between action and recovery that isn't seen as much in newer games. And everything about the game felt very distilled...as if every element of a good shooter was there, but nothing extra made the cut. It feels very pure. The game has 16:9 widescreen support, and visual quality holds up decently well when rendered even in a higher resolution, so it can also emulate beautifully when played on modern hardware, and hold up to modern games much better than it has any right to. This game is under-appreciated, and arguably felt smoother to play than GoldenEye.

    Seems like everyone who complains about N64 controls in FPS games is trying to play with move-on-stick controls, which have always been worse. It’s the default because it was easier for newcomers to pick up and understand, but to play for real you have to switch it to look-on-stick (Turok style) controls. It still won’t quite control like Halo, but at least you have look and turn on the same thumb like a modern game.

    Must say I like the PS1 version more, probably because that's what I played first and learned to know all the levels inside out (cue high scores), then mastering them weapons (cue higher scores). Nobody seems to mention them unlockable cheats that version has, they're semi-fun. Don't own many versions of this game though, only the original PAL/UK version - SCN covers, American original and Greatest Hits, plus the French one as a promo disc. Never owned the N64 version, but played that one a bit through emulation with a keyboard - it makes some bits quite difficult. If I were to play with real hardware, certain missions would probably still be infuriating. Fun game otherwise. Muzak I find better on PS1, them loops are just criminally short. Outside main menu, both of them span over one minute.

    • @rustpromoterdx
      @rustpromoterdx  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not know about the unlockable cheats! That is really cool. I love when games used to do that. A fun reward for doing something specific in a game. Not something you see much anymore sadly. Glad you like the PS1 version, Love that you have the different versions!

    • @PSXDRIVERPLAYERBSTH
      @PSXDRIVERPLAYERBSTH 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sometimes wonder if people never visit Options. I would recommend doing that. Not only because them cheats are a submenu over there. Along control customization (this is also in TND). Which leads me to think that I have no idea what is it exactly with controls that makes people say that they suck, I can not play for a while and come back, adjust after a few seconds and breeze through the(m) game(s).
      But seriously, these PS1 games are not as bad as the impression internet gives with them. Except 007 Racing, I can get behind some of the thing internet says about that one. Except the "can't scroll items backwards" part, that's not true.

    • @Gameprojordan
      @Gameprojordan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gunplay and movement isn't as good but that being said it's still a really fun game and I personally played it more than goldeneye. The missions feel more James bond-esque like using stealth and espionage more heavily instead of constant massive gun battles like goldeneye has, aswell as having to deal with civilians more often so you have to be more careful with who you shoot at which increases the challenge.
      Also the graphics are alot better and include actual reload animations/alternate fire modes and voice acting/cutscenes, plus the multi-player is really fun and has bots.
      The amazing part about this game too is it doesn't require that updated memory pack like perfect dark needed, even though it feels like it has just as many features and improvements in graphics and such as perfect dark had over goldeneye. Though it did need a memory card inserted into the controller to save properly, which to my knowledge came standard with the n64 so it wasn't really an issue unlike the updated memory pack you inserted into the console which was a seperate product

    PS1 version was not bad. The graphics looks better despite the texture warping. It should have been the better version but they simplified the levels too much for it to compete with the N64 version.

    06:54 - PSX (full voice work, footage from the movie, better resolution, detail textures)

      So not going to mention the mp? k. How about this.
      N64: Supports perspective correction and Z-buffering which shows.
      Psx: Regardless of game is not capable of either. (who cares about the slightly "better" resolution when there's no perspective correction?)
      If the movie footage over in game cutscenes is that important, just forgo the game and watch the film.

Black Ops Entertainment did an absolutely horrible job by not putting dual analog in the game despite that the Dual Analog and Dualshock controllers were already during the release of this game.
