Man there was a minute there when every 007 game was straight 🔥. Love this game.
The unlockable rewards for speed running all the levels made this game awesome for me.
I remember the speed running achievements being the perfect difficulty where it took a lot of skill and took many runs to complete but not so difficult to where it was unfair and made you want to throw the controller into the wall.

Aside from the pistol from Duke 3d, this was the first FPS I played with reloading animations and it blew my mind at the time. I remember just firing the revolver just to see the animation play all while thinking "now this is the future!".
Personally I consider “007: Everything or Nothing” to be my favorite but to each their own.

While that EON story is fantastic, the controls are so horrible, I can't understand how anyone could think it's control is as refined as Nightfire, or even GoldenEye

Go back and playthrough EON. Right now. Then tell me how it controls. Compared to Nightfire or Goldeneye, the controls are incredibly janky, and not even close to the level of polish presented in Nightfire or Goldeneye, when talking about control input.
Just because 'theyre fine for me' doesn't mean the controls don't present obvious problems for smooth and efficient actions to be done on the fly in the various different scenarios it puts you in. The level of thought put into movement control in a game like Perfect Dark is a great example of why Rare was ahead of the game, and EA Redwood did the best they could do, but could never come close to what Rare could pull off.
At 7:40 and 8:40 - For this game, go to options and choose controller style #3 which gives you full camera control with the stick. You can also disable aim inversion. For GoldenEye, go to options and choose 1.2, once again giving you full camera control with the stick, and you can disable aim inversion, auto aim and auto look-ahead. The default controls aged, but they offer modern styles and play perfectly fine. :)
CORRECTION: I am living in a fever dream. The re-release of Goldeneye I referred to was apparently just a leak and a rumor. Achievements have been leaked for the release, but it has not officially arrived. Unfortunately this called shot missed the mark. Apologies for the mistake. I wanted to correct it as soon as possible.
Well there was an unreleased xbla version that you can play now if you ummm... savvy enough. Aarrrr

I always liked this game too. Never thought about how technically advanced it is for N64 but I see it now. The devs definitely did a great job and deserve a ton of credit.

I'll always love this game, played through dozens of times. I think the one thing it does better than Goldeneye is creating a unique, exotic feel for all the different environments-- Nightfire also excelled at this.
Yes! This really laid the groundwork for Nightfire and when you play it you can *feel* how similar it is
Nightfire feels like a superior version of this game.
Actually had this before Goldeneye and loved it. Have it for both PS1 and N64. It made me grab Tomorrow Never Dies on PS1 as well.

This is the true follow up to Goldeneye
7:05 holy shit i did not know you were supposed to jump up to that bar. I always started booking it the moment renard started talking and would use the speedrunning technique "strafe running" where you press a strafe button and hold forward at the same time which makes you move faster for some reason (I think I understand why but I won't get into it here). But yeah I was technically able to do that sequence by running instead of hanging from the bar. I hadn't seen the movie before playing the game so I had no idea I was supposed to jump up to that thing.

I played this game hundreds of hours as a kid and didn't know about jumping and holding onto that god damn post. I always had to do the strafing and thought it was a little janky. No wonder!

My favorite way to play 007 is with the mouse aiming patch on PC. Makes the game extremely easy but it hits the nostalgia itch.
I had this game instead of golden eye, although like most kids I played goldeneye extensively. It is a solid game, I enjoyed some of the weapons, and some single player missions even more then golden eye frankly. The singleplayer did more interesting things and had more features then Goldeneye in my opinion, not all of it is better then goldeneye; but some sections are.
I grew up with this game and I think it's the best bond game out there. I like it even more than Goldeneye and Nightfire and I really don't get why there aren't more people talking about it. It did pretty much everything Goldeneye did and so much more. Of course, the controls have aged, but it isn't that hard to adapt to them with a little bit of practice. You should definitely check out control style 8 in the options menu, though. It seems weird at first, because it uses the d-pad to move and the control stick to look around and it also uses the face buttons for different actions, wich basically means you have to hold the controller in a really unusual way, but you have to trust me on this, once you adapt to it, it doesn't feel that bad at all and it quickly became my preferred way to play the game, especially for the underwaterr section near the end. Being able to look around without having to enter aiming mode and switching between weapons using the left and right c-buttons makes the game play much more fluidly (plus when playing on an emulator, you can easily use this control style and change the button layout to make it play almost exactly like a modern FPS). Also I noticed that you didn't use any button combinations in your gameplay, wich reminds me of myself backwhen I wasn't aware of it. If you hold A and press B, you can quickly change gadges. If you hold B and press Z, you can switch between different weapon modes. Using the standard control style, you can also hold A and press Z to switch to the previous weapon, without having to go through your whole arsenal. And last but not least, hold B and press A to toggle night vision/x-ray vision on or off. Once you get used to these shortcuts, the game feels even better, because you don't have to gp to the pause menu all the time to change gadgets or to switch between the differend modes of the watch.

We had GE, and to this day it's my favorite game ever. Got TWINE soon after beating GE and I was blown away. Felt like a proper followup: gives you that immersive yet fun pick up to play shooting, equipment to use for your own playtime, and the stages feel lived in.
Presentationally it's one of the most impressive games on 64. Graphics looks great, framerate is consistent, levels are huge, full voice acting, it's insanity. Replayed it recently w/the mouse and keyboard mod, holds up extremely well. While I still prefer GoldenEye, TWINE is second for me as far as Bond games go. Even does some stuff better than Nightfire imo.
I had it on ps1 and I loved it. I was so young I didn't know I needed a memory card an was always a little bummed when I had to redo every level. I never beat it, but I will soon on an emu haha.

I agree that The World is not Enough is not as good as Goldeneye ( both movie and game), but I still enjoyed it for what it gave us on the N64. I felt extremely satisfied to see this James Bond game come back to its roots since Goldeneye. 👍
Eurocom was also responsible for the Goldeneye Wii remake which I thought was excellent! It's too bad they got shutdown after 007 Legends.
At the age of 11 I waited over a year reading n64 magazines to get new screenshots and was frustrated with anticipation waiting for Christmas to come
Then...........discovering the Thames boat chase was just a cutscene was anti climactic
I remember I beat that level the first time without grabbing that thing, I actually ran the whole thing and made it. I was mad when I found out you can grab it
Agent Under Fire didn't get enough credit either. The shooting mechanics were awful, sure, but the mission design was incredibly fun and the gadgets turned multiplayer into an absolute chaos playground. Jetpacks and grappling hooks years before they became FPS mainstays.
Agreed, it laid a good foundation for nightfire. The MP was quite fun.
I feel that this one has a better single player, as well as a better soundtrack.
It’s multiplayer left a lot to be desired, in my opinion.
Multiplayer had bots and a bunch of game modes. It was pretty good imo
I'd love to see this get a re-release but I'm not sure who has ownership. Hopefully it isn't as complicated as GoldenEye's trio custody situation.

Goldeneye for my birthday September 1997 ( birthdays and Christmas ' were easy to please me during the N64 era
This was one of my most played N64 games, used to play with a friend and it was fun in multiplayer with the bots. Most of the singleplayer levels weren't that great, though. The two prototype ROMs of this game are interesting, the early one is really interesting with pseudo-ragdoll physics and third person options, and the later one has better main menu music and everything unlocked, but broken multiplayer. I always disliked the stupid character "faction" rules in multiplayer.

Bloodstone has got to be my 007 choice, the third person camera and the melee takedowns go a long way towards feeling like I'm actually playing as Bond compared to the first person shooters, even if they're still fun games.

Everyone debates who the best on-screen Bond is, but I don't think anyone can dispute that Brosnan had the best 007 video games. During his time, other video games were copying Bond whereas during Craig's tenure, Bond was copying other games e.g. Call of Duty and Gears of War.

Some of the best gadgets in a 007 game. They’re so integral to the actual game that it was a really cool touch.
This game was very pretty Back I’m It’s reign but it was the version of Bond you either picked it or Goldeneye rare do you find someone who has both back then

me and my family loved this one and my parents consider it better than goldeneye. I'd say I think I have to agree even if goldeneye is a bit more iconic and nostalgic for me and has better cheats and a better character roster.
