Just finished taking my Envy dv6 apart with the help of this video, put in an ssd, 16gb ram and had a huge clump of dust in the fan as well! put some thermal grease as recommended after cleaning off too. I was tracking the temp of my cpu with speccy and was around idle before I did all of the work on this laptop, i'd have 3 tabs open or power up photoshop and get up to 90 degrees! but now after cleaning it all out, I'm idle 37 and 3 yabs or photoshop at 39 degrees...huge difference. could not have done it without your video as guidence!!! please keep up the good work

I'm replacing my fan. Does the fan come apart from the CPU?

Thank you for taking the time to share this. My fan was barely functioning and I had started taking my rig apart but only got about hallway in before losing my nerve. This showed me what I needed to do to complete the task. Works great now. Crazy that I had to d=completely disassemble a 3 1/2 year old laptop in order to clean the fan but that's how they designed these.

I was very appreciative of the meticulousness. This video worked perfectly for the hp envy dv6-7220us model, the only difference was that there is no gpu in my model, so the heat sink was slightly different.
Something to note for others watching this video, a common reason for your fan not working anymore is that the hinges to the screen break eventually and a small piece of plastic gets stuck in the fan. You don't even need to buy a new one usually, you just have to free it up like in the video and shake the little piece of plastic out. It's like the rocks in the fishtank in Nemo.

I know this is an old video. But this saved the day on my father's laptop. The fan was so dirty, i couldn't even get past windows setup without shutting down. THANK YOU!

I never thought I'd see something more difficult to take apart than my macbook pro. Yet this STILL is easier than some of the earlier, pavilion dv6s. Whoever made the call to not allow the freaking bottom of the laptop to come off should be punched in the face.

Not criticizing...just a word of advice. Pulling connectors by the wires is not a good idea! Although you did use a tool to help get the connector disconnected, never pull by the wire...always use a tool to fully disconnect.

Thanks for making a video of this exact model laptop. It's great to confidently take apart one of these. Only one unexpected thing happened. I found this 3/4 inch U-shaped rubber part and have not discovered where it belongs yet. Anyone else discover this part and know where it goes? I found it on to of the battery compartment inside the computer.

I have to do this due to temperature issues, but I'm scared. Too many screws... Are they all similar or do I have to worry about organising every screw?
