That is absolutely wild. I thought you must be exaggerating, but you're not. He did four games for them for free while doing other duties, and when he asked to be compensated for his past work, they said they couldn't afford to, and fired him. Randy then gave himself a bonus of $12 million, on top of his CEO pay. And that's how Claptrap was lost.

Imagine a live-action DragonKeep: a little girl - Tiny Tina - creates a fantasy world to escape the reality her close friend is dead. Dragons,
orcs, dwarves, wizards, walking trees, armies of reanimated skeletons, treasure chests that try to eat you. That could have looked cool. That could have appealed not just to Borderlands fans, but D&D, LOTR fans too. It would also humanise Tiny Tina, make her a sympathetic character, just like the original DLC did. WTF were they thinking?
What’s a shame about all of this is that, honestly, making a good Borderlands adaptation should’ve been pretty easy. However, it *definitely* shouldn’t have been live action to begin with. Ideally, it should’ve been an animated series that adapts either the story of the first game or the second, and essentially be Legend of Vox Machina x Guardians of the Galaxy x Mad Max in terms of tone. But nnnope. Instead we get…whatever the hell THIS was.

To me the film looks like a Lesser GOTG mixed with Mad Max. Which could work in a way for Borderlands but not with this film
It could be done in live action. Like a mix between Fallout and GotG.

The only movie I ever walked out on was Dirty Grandpa...kind of. My dad rented it and he wanted to watch it with me. It was so gah damn bad that i just went back to my room. And I was like 17 already , so I was old enough to grasp "hanging out with your dad is important."

Only movies I ever walked out of were Sucker Punch and some DreamWorks sequel (Ice Age I think). Van Helsing I actually "enjoyed" (Dracula's red head vampire and Kate Beckinsale were enough eye candy to keep me there)

From what I've heard is that the OG script WAS great then Roth got ahold of it and turned it into a horror action movie, all kinds of blood/guts and graphic violence, then the studio was disgusted with the horror and had it re-shot to remove the horror. This, the movie shown in theaters, is what's left. A bad Roth script with no horror, or soul.

I hope he didn't drop his incriminating USB stick this time out at the premiere 🙄 Randy is really something else. Remember when he did that hilarious thing where he just made everybody's bonus disappear and mysteriously ended up with all of it... Dude's an ass, apparently.
Me and my best friend knew this movie was gonna be bad by the first casting announcements. We grew up playing all the games together and it’s one of our fav franchises. This casting and directors weren’t it. BL3 I loved, gameplay, dlc and side quests were fantastic and it looked so good. And yea the villains were dog **** but I still loved it. Sucks the writer for BL2 didn’t take the helm on that game but very much looking forward to BL4 still. I haven’t touched tiny Tina’s game yet it’s just sitting in my steam library was gonna play it soon but maybe i won’t now it looked pretty cool.

I think the issue I and a lot of others have. Is that it makes no sense as to why they went live action. When animation fits the game so much more. People often attribute Cell-shading to Borderlands. Even if it's not. But you have this easy and obvious choice. I would've rather of gotten a well done animated movie, maybe recast the original VA's.
That's the other issue. Why would they get the actors they did? These are not small names. So I imagine we had Randy Pitchfold come in demanding actors he likes. I have said this before. But I can see something like Randy acting like Tommy Wiseau. There is a claim that when Tommy was making "The Room" He would spend needless money on things. Such as green screening an alley that is right outside. Because Tommy wanted "Hollywood movie" I imagine Randy wanted " Big hollywood movie!" So insisted on big named actors, insisted on live action and so on.
I really enjoyed Van Helsing, I thought it was a lot of fun

I enjoyed Borderlands 3 even though there was no Handsome Jack.
Some of the world building stuff was good but a lot of the writing was not great. Mechanically though, the gameplay feels incredible
It wasn't the lack of handsome jack. It was that everyone made non-sensical and/or out of character decisions.
The problem is, characters can't be smarter than the writers. And they brought in an unproven, green crew for borderlands 3.
If you mod all the dialogue and cutscenes out, apparently it's a good game. But that's sad.
I can only imagine what this movie was before all the reshoots
The borderlands movie tries to rewrite the lore, mess with the character stories and rushes the plot with dumbed down sfx it was not a good time. This is coming from someone who was watching the movie in the theater and was playing bl1 on my switch lite at the same time. I wouldn't say its the absolute worst movie ive seen because at least it was finished but thats about all its got
When talking about voices not matching up with lips is called ADR. Its used often in movies but bad movies make it egregious like madam web
Blaming Tarantino for platforming Eli Roth had me busting out laughing, Eli is definitely a consistent hit or miss director, and I can't blame the guy for taking a paycheck from Randy. I can't imagine the behind the scenes turmoil to get this movie done
Eli Roth can do some decent stuff but a lot of his films feel like he wants to be Tarantino desperately at times

I love borderlands so much. It’s so dear to my heart but it’s been getting increasingly difficult difficult to be excited for it.
Despite BL3’s garbage narrative, the narratives of the DLC are actually pretty solids. It’s just the main campaign that falls short. But Wonderlands, Tales 2, and now this… I’m gonna scream like a bounty hunter with a buzz axe and disassociative identity disorder.

Eli Roth has always been hit or miss for me. Really like the green inferno and some of the hostel movies but that’s about it lol

I'm definitely not saying this. I thought Uncharted was pretty offensive considering how much I like the source material. Last of Us however, especially Fallout, were miraculously good. You can feel the passion in the set design and the quirks that the actors give their characters. Personally, I thought fallout was much more impressive how they really just made that world feel incredibly tactile. They did all of that without even using any characters from the games as main characters. Great story premise and really fun characterization.
It feels like since the script was such a mess and passed through so many hands, directors came in and out, just feels like they went for PG-13 for the lowest common denominator to try to at least make some of it financially lucrative. Clearly that massively backfired...
Me too, Matty. It's the same philosophy I have with Bloodborne. Don't even touch it. If you're not 1000% certain, don't even screw with my favorites

It "IS" a movie, and I didn't expect it to look 100% like the game or to follow the story 100%.

I have played every single borderlands games for hundreds of hours. I dont like the lore changes, or the character changes BUT i still found the movie fun and enjoyable. I wish they fought the destroyer at the end and the changes i already listed are unfortunate. All together i enjoyed the movie and hope they make a second one and dont change jack or angel.
We can be thankful Eli Roth will never get a chance to ruin handsome jack and angel.
Ill say it, Suicide Squad wasnt that horrible. Actually kinda liked it and wish the internet didnt convince me to put it off for so long. BvS was okay and Van Helsing is a beloved movie from childhood

Even choosing to make the movie live action is odd to me. One of the main singatures of the franchise is the cell shading look.
The movie sure was bad, but Roland did use a turret. It wasnt his deployed turret, but he does use one.
I like the van helsing....... But I can see how some people might not like it. It's not one I rewatch a lot. The costuming was really well done in Van Helsing I think, and we had eye Candy of Hugh Jackman and Kate beckinsale and the brides of Dracula. I'd say when the worst movies in my opinion would be like the Gigili or whatever that Ben Affleck movie was.
Did either of you see the Max Payne movie? If this is somehow a worse adaptation than that was, that is quite telling. That movie took years off my life because it was so bad. I genuinely have hated Mark Wahlberg since then. They fucked it up so bad that it’s personal for me haha.

Off topic (not like that’s a tragedy) but in regards to the Lord of the Rings IP I’m still dumbfounded as to why no one has even tried making an open-world RPG in Middle Earth. It seems like such a lay up to me…
That was the worst movie ive ever seen. It was unbelievable to see that poor of a level of story dialogue, choreography, the post production, etc attached to those actors. Honestly mind blowing

Yeah they should of stayed with the Canon storyline. The fact mixed up borderlands 1,2 and 3 altogether was red flag or a foul to me. It made me hate gearbox even more. Should of made this rated r with gore. Yes there's humor but the director's need to stop making they movie and stayed on borderlands story would been a little better, but not much. Hollywood destroys another great story. Yes I feel borderlands as franchise is now dead, which is sad.

Yes, it was way too watered down, and the Twins aren't great villains(they had their moments but as a whole they weren't great), but the gameplay, and all the other bits of lore the game provided were great.
This movie on the other hand just sounds like it's a bastardization of the franchise.
This doesn't make me worried for Borderlands 4, but I have my guard up.

Im not a big borderlands guy but I could tell from the trailer that this movie was going to be a massive flop.
Didn’t think it was good, didn't think it was this bad either. Was very generic, and action movie tropey. Haven’t played much of the games, started 1, but just got bored and never went back.

2023 had the day before...... 2024 has the borderlands movie.... i liked jack black, but then got cast for claptrap. i knew it wasnt a right fit, dude is trying too hard for everything he doesnt have the natural flow anymore he once had.
