Correct there are different types of xenomorph, Most of them have been warriors in older movies This movie are scouts they're main job is to capture ,bring back to the nest and make more that's why in the background they were dragging the dead bodies
I really enjoyed this. Gives me hope that we get more good Alien movies. You guys should watch Prey. Its as good of a prequel to Predator as Romulus is as a sequel to Alien.
34:10 I think what a lot of people are forgetting is that the xenos main priority is to grow the hive, when the elevator fell due to the gravity it basically wiped out all the remaining xenos aside from the one that caught her and it caught her so they could facehug her, which we see one jump at her less than 2 minutes later before Andy kills it and the Xeno
Oh my god yes! My friend kept thinking something was wrong with me because it'd show a room, or a ship l, and I'd just, "oooh man yes. That's perfect." Clenching my body you know, how you do when your excited or pumped
Just wanted to say thanks for this channel guys! So many TH-cam movie channels have lost their charm over the years. RLM is the basically the only one I keep up with anymore, and it’s a toss-up whether they’ll actually review the big movies. It’s been so awesome the last few months looking forward to Call Sheet and Watch Party, and Matty’s virgin perspective on so many movies adds a really unique twist to things. Keep up the great work!
I agree - I hope the comments ragging on him for not enjoying something don’t bum him out, the concept behind this channel is really interesting and unique, it’s become one of my faves.
Romulus was incredible! My new favorite behind only the original Alien. What a blast from start to finish Edit: I'm pumped for you guys to review Prometheus and Covenant at some point 🙏
The planet they are going to is related to Covenant. I think they could do some very wild stuff if they go to that planet. I'll avoid spoilers but when you guys watch Covenant and see romulus again you'll have some different thoughts
My one big gripe with the movie was how fast the alien creation process was. She got hit with the face hugger, it was only on her for a couple of minutes before they got it off her, the alien burst out maybe 5 minutes later, and then the baby alien builds a cocoon and becomes the big alien 3-5 minutes after birth. Every step of that process was way too fast
@Cheesepuff8 They just needed to add a line or two of dialogue from Rook saying that the scientist on board were able to speed up the implantation and incubation speeds. It went from taking hours in Alien and Aliens to only a few minutes in Romulus.
I’m a rare one who doesn’t like Alien or Aliens, (or any movie in the franchise), but I loved this movie and may be my favorite horror film of all time. It’s what I always imagined an Alien movie being if I could make one.
Awesome review Matty and Lock - I loved Romulus, thought it was excellent! Matty - any chance you would consider uploading the Watch Party movie reviews to an RSS feed? I would love to listen while I'm on the go! Keep up the awesome work!
MATTY - love your work. Love retro rewind, it’s SICK to see you review film. Just upped my take on Alien: Romulus. Excited to hear what you thought of the Isolation tie-ins. Check mine out if you get the chance!!!
I'm not surprised you guys don't know who Isabella Moner (Kay) is yet, but you very much will by the end of next year. She has roles in at at least two things both of you WILL be watching.
As much as I love that Matty is watching new movies too, I feel like he had to see the franchise at its worst to see it bounce back with this one (please see alien 3)
JUST got out of the theatre having seen this movie. My and my gf currently on the drive home with this review on in the car! BEST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN THE CINEMA!!!
Ya Alien 3 and Prometheus are so underrated, I actually like them more than Aliens (I do like aliens though, but I agree with alot of your takes on that movie). Alien Romulus was kindof a perfect mix of Alien, Aliens, Prometheus, and just a touch of Alien 3. I really thought it was a good addition to the franchise.
When u think about it I'm not sure if it's good or bad that we haven't really got a lore movie Prometheus equivalent for the predator. prey was good action but I feel it's a waste to not get a movie that focuses on a predator in the predator world. idk I just wish they got into a convo about that.
Don't worry Maddie that huge weird creature definitely surprised me too because that did not happen in Prometheus there's nothing like that in Prometheus
@@AnthonyAPerez yeah it was supposed to look like an engineer but Maddie was acting like he thought that specific thing was in Prometheus when it was not
Am I alone In thinking we should talk about the avp movies over Prometheus. I really like the lore of aliens as well but I remember Prometheus just being such a snore and I think the run time being overly long or just bad pacing
It's not a clone of Ash it's just the same model you know how like in Prometheus and alien Covenant David and Walter are the same model so they look the same
SPOILERS!!!: They definitely set up a sequel. They said Romulus was a twin station. It's twin, Remus is still out there. The vials of black goo are also on board the ship with the survivors. Then there's always the chance of a stow away alien or face hugger. So there's 3 possibilities for a sequel they can go with.
@@darktempest53 Ahhh OK. I thought I heard a line saying Romulus and Remus were two separate ships and Romulus was the one adrift while Remus was still out there somewhere
Rook wasn't a clone lol. He's an android. Is your black iPhone 14 a clone of someone else's black iPhone 14? No. They just made multiple of the same phone. Same thing here. The company made multiple Rook androids to serve as science officers on ships/space stations.
Bringing back Ian Holm in that way was awful and the ending was just a combination of Prometheus and Alien: Resurrection. It was completely unnecessary to bring back Ian Holm and the callback lines were completely out of place with the Aliens line not making sense at all. The first half was really good until it sunk down in quality.
My biggest issue is that the movie doesn't have enough of an identity of its own. A lot of Disney movies are starting to have this issue. Plus if you've seen a lot of horror movies it follows a lot of the tropes a little too much.
I'm so confused by everyone talking about the movie being lore heavy and have a lot of connections to Prometheus. Did we see the same movie? There was barely any lore at all and like one small connection to Prometheus.
It's hard for me to decide where to put Romulus yet since I've only seen it once and I've seen the others way too many times. Romulus is currently my fourth favorite after the directors cuts of the first three.
I figured the xeno saved her in the elevator because they need at least a few people to use for reproduction.
Correct there are different types of xenomorph,
Most of them have been warriors in older movies
This movie are scouts they're main job is to capture ,bring back to the nest and make more that's why in the background they were dragging the dead bodies
Ye i assume it wanted her alive for the face hugger which was revealed a minute later
I really enjoyed this. Gives me hope that we get more good Alien movies. You guys should watch Prey. Its as good of a prequel to Predator as Romulus is as a sequel to Alien.
Yea you should definitely watch prometheus matty
Ive only heard bad things about it
It's actually pretty good I liked it its in my top 4 alien movies
yeah! its top 3 for sure
@@chanwooksook top 4 i could see but top 3? Nah alien, aliens, and romulus
@@ActNasty5 but as I understand you haven’t seen Prometheus. Or I misunderstood?

I can’t wait till you guys get to Heat. Excited for Matty to see what inspired The Dark Knight.
loved the set design of this movie, everything felt like it had a purpose and i just wanted to touch all the buttons and displays

God I loved this fucking movie. It makes me so happy to see the Alien and Predator franchises both having a recent win

The growth process from chestburster to drone only takes a few hours. It should be fast, it's a xenomorph that grows like a cancer
It's been that fast before, but with less of a spotlight on it FWIW
Ye it was a little fast but I guess the film didn’t really have time for it to be slow
@Cheesepuff8 They just needed to add a line or two of dialogue from Rook saying that the scientist on board were able to speed up the implantation and incubation speeds. It went from taking hours in Alien and Aliens to only a few minutes in Romulus.

Cailee Spaeny is on a roll. Priscilla, Civil War and now this!
I agree I can’t believe it was over two hours long felt like I was der for a hour or so was sad to see it end an happy at same time haha

Oh man I audibly oooh yeah'd many times just from the music and set design

It looks just like the engineers, and covenant is all about hybrids. So, it was hybrid of a Xenomorph and the engineers.

Definitely Dead Space. The hybrid looked just like the basic necromorph.
Ash is just an android model. There are many others like bishop from aliens and david.

Autistic Android was an interesting choice but they pulled it off great
