    You shouldn't directly attach the pi to the generator, hook up the pi to a rechargeable battery, and plug in the pi through the battery. This way the pi won't crash in case of a "power outage".

    • @lowlevelm
      @lowlevelm ปีที่แล้ว +68

      I’ve tried using a usb battery for a similar use case, and when it’s charging it disables it’s output. A ups would be needed for this case

      @@manaylodhaAnker, yes does allow output while charging but when the power is cut, the power bank doesn't switch to the battery fast enough to keep the raspberry pie fast enough to keep it on. I am basing my information on the Anker 737 that I currently have.

    So how long do you have to mine before you pay off the Water Lily and the Pi? 2 years, 4 years?

    • @nobodyinparticular968
      @nobodyinparticular968 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      idk anything about cryptomining so forgive me if im about to say something stupid but from my 10 seconds of googling a "pplns window" is basically how far back the pool checks for your contributions to "finding the block" (i dunno what that means) but if his first contribution was 17 minutes and 2 seconds ago then we can assume that its been running for that long, so 1,022 seconds, given that he earned 0.05$ after those 1,022 seconds he is earning 0.0000489237$ per second, the waterlily thingy costa like 270$ and the cheapest 1gb ram version of that raspberry pi model costs 35$ (im guessing bitcoin mining doesnt take too much ram anyways?) so he spent 305$ and to make that back with 0.0000489237$ per second would take ~6,234,197 seconds or ~72 days, but realistically this contraption would break within the first day, let alone 2 months, generally electronic appliances dont like being left out in the wilderness right next to a running river
      in conclusion: it will never pay itself off because it will break but if it miraculously doesnt break it will take 2 months and 12 days

    • @BenjaminHari
      @BenjaminHari ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nobodyinparticular968 Thank you so much for the calculation but why do you think the water lilly would break so soon?
      Considering that it's "free energy" and if you live near/next to a running river (I do) I don't think earning 100€ per month is that bad to be honest...

    • @nobodyinparticular968
      @nobodyinparticular968 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BenjaminHari i expect the pi to break that soon due to getting wet but im honestly not sure about the lifetime of the waterlily,
      you could put the pi in an encloaure but i think it would still break within a month due to rust from the high humidity
      edit: there may actually be more reasonable options for off the grid bitcoin mining though maybe something like a waterlily but with the computer integrated into it, i dont know how you would solve the wifi issues though
