Welcome to the world of health care? Entirely not on the same level but I did have a procedure which put me in so much pain that if someone said, it could all end tonight, I might well have taken them up on it. For more than a year I went to the surgeon, to the emergency room and complained about it, finally I self removed what was done. The surgeon stood over me contemptuously and brushed off my final telling of how all my complaints had disappeared once the removal was done. He was so dismissive, a true narcissist..

I think it's probably because he was a doctor that almost served as proof of his credentials. Even though there have been plenty of doctors who have harmed and abused people and patients. I'm from the UK and there was a doctor here called "Harold Shipman" who used his position as a general practitioner/doctor to kill elderly patients, usually with morphine overdoses. He was trusted enough that the families of some victims gave permission for him to enter their homes and treat them. It took many years for him to be identified as a serial killer because of the trust placed in him by so many people that they never questioned him when he told a victims family that their relative had died.

Update for anyone looking for it: Paolo Macchiarini was convicted of one count of “causing bodily harm,” a felony, in a Swedish court in June 2022. The district court in Solna found Paolo Macchiarini not guilty on other charges, including aggravated assault, relating to three patients he treated while working for the famed Karolinska Institute (KI). This charge has a maximum sentence of 4 years.
Disappointing considering the lives he took with his experiments.

The psychopath "spark." That's what Benita felt the first time she met Paolo. Her body sensed danger. This was her adrenaline-fueled fight or flight response to a predator. His eyes saw her and took on the predatory stare, her body responded and she misinterpreted it as love at first sight due to cultural biases. It happened to me a couple of times and those guys turned out to be psychopaths. After dating the last psychopath, I really wanted to know what that shock, that thrill was that went through my body that I had misinterpreted as chemistry and connection and I researched. It's a real phenomenon that many have experienced. Be wary if you feel an electrical shock when you meet someone. Your body is trying to tell you something.

    • @OM-or3im
      @OM-or3im 3 ปีที่แล้ว +194

OMG i ended up doing this same research after this happened to me with a narcissist and was floored to learn that « spark » was actually fear and not chemistry! It’s amazing how our bodies can tell danger so early on.

Nah, this goes deeper! Her mom and then her dad throwing her out. Psychologically her attachment didn’t come in right because of what happened to her during her for formative years. Red flag after red flag and where someone with a healthy attachment would react and end things, she clinged on to them because she hadn’t been taught to set proper boundaries in childhood (parents teach their kids this in healthy homes) so instead she ended up looking past the red flags and holding on to him. It’s like she knew but still didn’t dare to let go of him, separation anxiety. Which might also psychologically explain why she was ok with leaving her daughter behind so often (because she her self had been left as s child), her daughter only had her as a caregiver after the father had passed (So another reason to not dash off on all of those trips when he love bombed the mom). It’s really sad because had she had a better upbringing this scary man would not be viewed as a potential partner by her, she would be able to keep the door closed to him.

But she was ambitious as well. Fraudulent people tend to depend on other people's greed and ambition for status in different kind. There's those to offer more than you're worth so to say (people are played by their self esteem isdues). The board of Karolinska contained to a great extent of former politicians (who often are showered by lobbyists etc and hence harmful items and procedures are neglected and allowed). Thus, she was a different kind of victim than those he performed surgery on, for those he really was their last hope (many also aware thiswas a new procedure with someat uncertain outcome).
And then the idea of medical science moving forward in an often rather fast pace perhaps not make the procedure obviously, sure a donated trachea would be the ideal though the need for the artificial one was/is probably desired if there isn't enough donor organs available (add to the risk of the body rejecting a donated organ as well even if formally matching).

Like man made items that's keeps your heart going etc. And from the patients side it may make sense, there are a lot of people who desperately go to other parts of the world to get treatments that is not allowed in their own country. I'd guesstimate the amount of people complaining about not getting a treatment that is nott allowed in their country is still higher than reversed. Typically newsdon't want to dwell into details around familicides, and that for good reason, but there were suggestions that the familicide in Bjärred a few years ago was parents becoming desperate that treatments they wanted for their kids was not allowed.

I had a friend that was dating a "multi-millionaire." Supposedly he had all this money from a local cleaning company he owned. He never took her anywhere and would only go to her house really late at night. She went to his house once and it was a small 3 bedroom apartment where he, his roommates, and their 2 daughters lived. She believed all of his ridiculous claims. She even believed that he had his own plane. I couldn't understand how she could believe all this but I guess if you want it to be true then you ignore all of the red flags. Anyway, turns out that he was married, the small cleaning company belonged to his mother in law and he was in financial debt. My friend was super smart and usually a good judge of character until she fell in love. Then she believed everything that any guy told her.

Or that he was called to save princess Diana, and he not getting there in time was the only reason she died... in the meanwhile, all his not famous patients were dying in the most terrible way... funny how he was the doctor of such important people, but still was almost anonymous... you've got to suspend disbelief so hard to fall for all this...

The doctors who fought to bring Paolo's misconduct and malfeasance to light were ALSO indicted for Paolo's medical crimes, because the institute wanted revenge on them for making the institute look bad! The institute should have done their diligence and investigated Paolo when the problems were first brought up, or actually called his references and requested documentation!!! Ooooooooh I'm so mad.

This is unfortunately typical. Instead of investigating and doing what's ethical these institutions hide the truth in order to protect their reputation and NOT their patients. I listened to a podcast about this case and the thing that sticks with me from that was this one interview with two colleagues at the Karolinska about when they got their research and evidence into Paolo's misdeeds ready to give to the institute. They had several large binders, so they put them into a big box to deliver, but they kept knocking around in there, so they got adult diapers from the hospital to sort of fill out the box a little and one doctor quipped, the heads of the institute will need those any way when they read what we have compiled on Macchiarini because they'll shit their pants 😂
It was just so darkly funny.

Definitely want updates on this case! What a sicko. This case was upsetting but having Lily in the background helped ❣️

Wow! I live in the town where Hannah’s surgery took place. I remember how devastating it was when she passed away. I never heard this whole story behind it. So crazy.

By all means do a follow-up . I had seen this story before and was shocked that he has not yet been to trial. He most definitely needs to held responsible for everything and punished.

My goooooooootness. I am actually shocked as that woman is so intelligent and obviously aware. I'm happy she figured him out and pegged him LOL I like her style... So ladies, any dude LOVEBOMBS you like that initially and into the relationship, that isn't love or affection.. That's a huge red flag.

So impressed with how Benita handled this. So impressed that she was willing to let everyone know what happened to her (even though I'm sure it was embarrassing) in order to save people from him. So impressed with how composed she is when talking about it as well.

Literally everytime Kendall says Paolo my mind immediately thinks of Paolo from Lizzie McGuire. Then she referenced it in the end, WOW!

Yes! We need a follow up once trial begins. This is just unbelievable. How does this happen?!

    • @irishgal12171

Yes please do a follow up! I hate to say it but people like Paola will never feel bad for what they do to people, no matter how much the people they hurt want them to.
