I'm so bewildered with the fact that no one checked his credentials. How have I had to go through background checks to work retail jobs, but this man was cutting people open without anyone checking a thing?
I think it's probably because he was a doctor that almost served as proof of his credentials. Even though there have been plenty of doctors who have harmed and abused people and patients. I'm from the UK and there was a doctor here called "Harold Shipman" who used his position as a general practitioner/doctor to kill elderly patients, usually with morphine overdoses. He was trusted enough that the families of some victims gave permission for him to enter their homes and treat them. It took many years for him to be identified as a serial killer because of the trust placed in him by so many people that they never questioned him when he told a victims family that their relative had died.
Could you imagine your toddler baby girl dying after undergoing his surgery, then learning the truth about him later? The anger these families must feel, I pray for their peace of heart.💔

Update for anyone looking for it: Paolo Macchiarini was convicted of one count of “causing bodily harm,” a felony, in a Swedish court in June 2022. The district court in Solna found Paolo Macchiarini not guilty on other charges, including aggravated assault, relating to three patients he treated while working for the famed Karolinska Institute (KI). This charge has a maximum sentence of 4 years. Disappointing considering the lives he took with his experiments.
That's disgusting! This man should have been convicted on so much more relating to the other patients and he should be serving a lot of time. He basically killed a toddler, for one thing!
Thanks for this update. I was wondering. And only 4 years????!!!! That’s sickening. He has no remorse (at least per this video) and would still be perpetrating his death surgeries if he could. The families and the one survivor deserve so much more.
The psychopath "spark." That's what Benita felt the first time she met Paolo. Her body sensed danger. This was her adrenaline-fueled fight or flight response to a predator. His eyes saw her and took on the predatory stare, her body responded and she misinterpreted it as love at first sight due to cultural biases. It happened to me a couple of times and those guys turned out to be psychopaths. After dating the last psychopath, I really wanted to know what that shock, that thrill was that went through my body that I had misinterpreted as chemistry and connection and I researched. It's a real phenomenon that many have experienced. Be wary if you feel an electrical shock when you meet someone. Your body is trying to tell you something.
OMG i ended up doing this same research after this happened to me with a narcissist and was floored to learn that « spark » was actually fear and not chemistry! It’s amazing how our bodies can tell danger so early on.
Dude this is blowing my mind. I've been wracking my brain as to why I felt this when I met the man who ended up physically hurting me and blamed myself for having bad intuition but this makes so much sense! The only thing that made me question things at first was that he kind of love bombed me and was super into me without really knowing me but it's so easy to get swept up in it all no matter how careful a person may be.
This is awful and she was so strong. I feel for the families the most that lost their loved ones to this man and him experimenting on them. It's awful.
Maybe the only reason she exposed him was because he lied to her about marrying her? Imagine if he did marry her and did follow through with all of his promises...
@@thequeenofwitches7943 No, the marriage is the reason WHY she started investigating him in the first place, not the only reason whatsoever especially after all the dirt she found on him after.
Psychopaths are not as rare as we may think.... although to his extent is not as common, we all have/will encounter atleast one in our lives. I married one, feel like such a fool for excusing and forgiving and just buying into his convincing stories. The time I figured him out was too late, he had ruined my life. This woman handled her fraudulent whirlwind love affair with grace and got justice! I applaud her.
People confused how she can fall for that but remember she was going through a hard time with her daughter's father dying, maybe she was looking for comfort and affection, she probably wanted to appreciate life and not question it too much and he knew that saw that and used it. Most con artists and predators look for victims at their weakest emotionally and mentally
Nah, this goes deeper! Her mom and then her dad throwing her out. Psychologically her attachment didn’t come in right because of what happened to her during her for formative years. Red flag after red flag and where someone with a healthy attachment would react and end things, she clinged on to them because she hadn’t been taught to set proper boundaries in childhood (parents teach their kids this in healthy homes) so instead she ended up looking past the red flags and holding on to him. It’s like she knew but still didn’t dare to let go of him, separation anxiety. Which might also psychologically explain why she was ok with leaving her daughter behind so often (because she her self had been left as s child), her daughter only had her as a caregiver after the father had passed (So another reason to not dash off on all of those trips when he love bombed the mom). It’s really sad because had she had a better upbringing this scary man would not be viewed as a potential partner by her, she would be able to keep the door closed to him.
But she was ambitious as well. Fraudulent people tend to depend on other people's greed and ambition for status in different kind. There's those to offer more than you're worth so to say (people are played by their self esteem isdues). The board of Karolinska contained to a great extent of former politicians (who often are showered by lobbyists etc and hence harmful items and procedures are neglected and allowed). Thus, she was a different kind of victim than those he performed surgery on, for those he really was their last hope (many also aware thiswas a new procedure with someat uncertain outcome). And then the idea of medical science moving forward in an often rather fast pace perhaps not make the procedure obviously, sure a donated trachea would be the ideal though the need for the artificial one was/is probably desired if there isn't enough donor organs available (add to the risk of the body rejecting a donated organ as well even if formally matching).
Kendall I love that you post true crime content that isn’t always gruesome or dark! I love true crime, but it gets exhausting and depressing. I know we can always count on you to post a good palette cleanser😅
That woman laughing when she told them they were getting married by the Pope was so hilarious and sad at the same time. I’m so sad this man ruined so many lives.
Listening to a fake doctor doing experimental surgeries makes me more terrified then listening to a murdered story. This story has been making me squirm
What I don't understand is, that all my previous jobs wanted to see my diploma so that they knew, that I am not pretending to have a degree (and those jobs weren't even connected to me). So how come that a prestigious institute didn't check, if the person they are going to hire actually have the acamedic background he is claiming. I don't understand 🤷♀️
Kinda reminds me of the “Dirty John” case. Bonita is so strong for going through this and still maintaining her class along the way. The fact she put kids before her own emotions says a lot about her character. My heart goes out to the families grieving for their lost/affected loved ones. What a deranged man.
@@sarahtonin256 it was her ex-husband and from what was told in the video, the divorce and their relationship was far from idylic. Just want you guys to know there's a movie/documentary out about this man now, and it's titled: Dr. Death: Cutthroat Conman. The documentary is so much darker and heartbreaking because it shows the patients who were killed by this horrible man and how it ruined their lives.

genuinely how does this even happen. like how does not a single person notice for decades that his “professional experience” doesn’t add up. also not that any of this is benita’s fault but how did she not notice that he can’t actually play piano lol
I was thinking the same damned thing! Like holy hell, you need references to work in restaurants, how did absolutely nobody think to verify the professional background of a surgeon?!
You have to understand that people like this are so conniving, manipulative and their true profession is deceiving others. For what reason exactly, I don't know. It's almost like a Superman syndrome. He would probably wait until she wasn't actually looking to pretend to be playing the piano. He kept her so swept off her feet that there's no telling what he would do. He has her believing the Pope was going to marry them, I think he can fake being able to play the piano. It's all really sad
Also the fact that she and the woman who she sold the piano to became friends and even traveled together shows how magnetic and lovely she is - I admire her strength she’s amazing

I was a respiratory therapist at the hospital he did the surgery on the little girl and used stem cells to create an "artificial trachea" which was then recorded for the Dateline special. I met him a few times and everyone was just in awe of him, including me. I cant get over this.
That in itself is perhaps not that strange. A lot of procedures that are almost routine today were once viewed with scepticism at the initial research phase. Like man made items that's keeps your heart going etc. And from the patients side it may make sense, there are a lot of people who desperately go to other parts of the world to get treatments that is not allowed in their own country. I'd guesstimate the amount of people complaining about not getting a treatment that is nott allowed in their country is still higher than reversed. Typically newsdon't want to dwell into details around familicides, and that for good reason, but there were suggestions that the familicide in Bjärred a few years ago was parents becoming desperate that treatments they wanted for their kids was not allowed.
As a Swede in the medical field I was completely shocked when this came to light. It's crazy that Karolinska didn't take it more seriously from the beginning and I really hope that no one else tries something similar. That's really what bothers me the most, that the hospital didn't react directly and didn't start reseaching the whole thing. And that he was hired there even though his former work and stuff didn't add up. I was appaled really.
The idea of forming a trachea from a WATER BOTTLE had me doubled over in laughter and disbelief... and then, I realized that this monster was KILLING PEOPLE.
I was in an abusive relationship (mental, physical, and financial) before. And I remember who I was before it happened. Who I was during the relationship. Who I became after the relationship. When I finally broke free after two years, family members and friends were in disbelief. "You are so smart and strong, how could this happen?" Listening to her story. Let me tell you. THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE. Love is a powerful drug. I am sooooo happy hearing how she got out of this!
THANK YOU. There is a narrative that states that "weak" women are the only ones who become prey for these types of monsters. Or any abuser for that matter. NOT TRUE. Yes, my question is why did he go through all this for. What did he want form her cause eventually he knew that she would find the truth. Maybe he wanted to influence her documentary about his work.
The point is, it is possible he would/could have pulled off this kind of double life thing he had if he just did a regular, normal wedding in the US. His wife lived in Barcelona so it's pretty safe to say the two women would have never meet. He insisted to have this royal style wedding without the possibility to come through with it. And this all would have been a sad story about the women that got tricked if not for the people that have been harmed by him being a "super doctor"

I'm fascinated by these type of stories like Belle Gibson, Keli Lane, the "Forgetting Dad" Dad. Years ago when my Mum worked in a maternity hospital a cleaner successfully pretended to be a charge nurse for months.
This story is so horrible. The doctors who fought to bring Paolo's misconduct and malfeasance to light were ALSO indicted for Paolo's medical crimes, because the institute wanted revenge on them for making the institute look bad! The institute should have done their diligence and investigated Paolo when the problems were first brought up, or actually called his references and requested documentation!!! Ooooooooh I'm so mad. The Wondery podcast series on this is really good too, but it'll make you angry.
This is unfortunately typical. Instead of investigating and doing what's ethical these institutions hide the truth in order to protect their reputation and NOT their patients. People need to do their due diligence and their own investigating before they agree to "experimental" surgery. Things are frequently NOT as they seem.

I listened to a podcast about this case and the thing that sticks with me from that was this one interview with two colleagues at the Karolinska about when they got their research and evidence into Paolo's misdeeds ready to give to the institute. They had several large binders, so they put them into a big box to deliver, but they kept knocking around in there, so they got adult diapers from the hospital to sort of fill out the box a little and one doctor quipped, the heads of the institute will need those any way when they read what we have compiled on Macchiarini because they'll shit their pants 😂 It was just so darkly funny.

@@KittyCat260 yes its at least murder in the second degree

You are 100% correct!
I've also experienced this, only with narcissistic or evil men. Every great man I've been with has given me a sense of calm.
You have just changed my life. Thank you.
She's blessed that he didn't kill her. Men like that kill when they get caught. She was also smart to hide what she was doing.

Maybe the only reason she exposed him was because he lied to her about marrying her? Imagine if he did marry her and did follow through with all of his promises...
@@teijaflink2226 khh
Very true
She was mentally weak alright !
And then the idea of medical science moving forward in an often rather fast pace perhaps not make the procedure obviously, sure a donated trachea would be the ideal though the need for the artificial one was/is probably desired if there isn't enough donor organs available (add to the risk of the body rejecting a donated organ as well even if formally matching).
oh its easy to fall for even a lot less than that with a narcissist. they are perfect at what they do until.......

Kinda reminds me of the “Dirty John” case. Bonita is so strong for going through this and still maintaining her class along the way.

Yeah, not all sparks means attraction, sometimes it means run for your life especially when it's unsettling.
Correct.. the butterflies and sparks is her red alert stay away bells ringing. Movies and romance stories tell us that's it normal.
If it's your heart, be weary, if it's your stomach, BE WEARY lol
i love these “fraud” videos ! please continue making more of them ♥️
YESS PLEASE🥺🥺
This was clearly the victim's fault. They should've used common sense and detected those red flags.
Jesus that's a horrible thing to say.
I came to post on the origibal comment though, so I'll just say I agree, more videos on fraud from kendall
This shit is crazy n I’m not even done with the video!!! Holyyyyyyy s***
I'm fascinated by these type of stories like Belle Gibson, Keli Lane, the "Forgetting Dad" Dad. Years ago when my Mum worked in a maternity hospital a cleaner successfully pretended to be a charge nurse for months.
I love how respectful you are when you tell these stories! You dont use sarcasm or make jokes along with it
I feel like that’s the bare minimum
Agreed, there are some true crime YTers who do that, it can be annoying
Wow this sounds like another “Dirty John” story 🥴it’s actually astonishing to what lengths these beyond compulsive liars will go too.
frrr! him and john would definitely get along
From nacissistic to murderous in one easy step. So terrifying cuz. they get so good at that you may never know until its too late. *shudder*
Fortunately Paolo wasn’t as dangerous as John, but yes, just as much of a liar and deceiver.
That would be perfect for season three!
Erm…apologies if this makes me sound dumb, but who is “Dirty John.”?
I dated a man like him once... he seemed "too" good to be true. He ended up having a wife and multiple girlfriends. He was definitely a sociopath. Glad I could get away!
Ikr?! Same!
I live in Sweden and this has been a big story over here, his patients has suffered so much. Such a scary story. But I didn’t know much about his backstory so thank you for this !!
This man was really out here putting water bottles in people’s necks 😳
Stories like this are so interesting to me - honestly more so than violent crimes. It's terrifying on such a primal level, because it messes with your trust in everyone and everything and makes you paranoid about all the things people could pretend to be.
What a boss lady!! She did everything right from contacting the university, to not losing her shit in front of the kids, & most definitely being such a strong women for her & her daughter I would’ve folded in that situation.
kendall you don’t know how many times you’ve comforted me with your videos while i was driving back and forth from my hometown to my college (different states) by myself. i always felt like you were just my friend sitting next to me telling me these crime stories. thank you so much for the content🤍 edit: wowww seriously so touching to hear how many other people felt the same way as me because of kendall’s great content!! peace and love everyone
Love this comment! 💕
Awww so beautiful 💜
That’s so sweet. Drive safe
Awww
Same girl 💛
She is SO STRONG… I have no idea how she had the restraint to stay inside that car… to understand those kids feelings were more important is amazing. Kudos to her… I hope she has an amazing life, and finds a REAL fairytale relationship ❤️
She put herself in the situation. It is her fault for getting caught up in the fantasy.
Bonita is a treasure, her restraint is legendary. I hope she's happy now.
The fact he said the Obama's were gonna be at the wedding, in 2015, when Obama was still the sitting president. Yeah he's got a whole country to run but he'll show up to some non royal, non dignitaries wedding in Italy, Paolo was somehow an amazing liar and a terrible one at the same time
I know right and that woman ate it all up! Unbelievable.
Wait. Wait. Wait. Was he trying to tell her that there were 2 popes actually fighting each other because of him? Like whaaaa.
It's called narcissism, he believes he is the most important person on earth
Listen....Kendall, you deserve an award girl lol the fact that you unfolded and told this story so well without laughing is just pure talent!🤦🏾♀️😂 I feel so bad for her but I just can't believe this happened in real life!
The Pope???? Really??? Come on lady the work you do and it didn't even cross your mind to check?
And she a journalist! And documentary film producer and didn’t research deeply. I research MY friends more than she did! I like her though. She’s extremely likable. I just feel bad for her
@@aimeeglatt3299 omg yes! I research EVERYONE lol
So no employer checked if he was actually a qualified doctor…? HUH? How can people preform surgery without even having credentials?
If he was Black certainly they would ask for thousands credentials
He was a qualified doctor, he lied about the research behind the procedure he was doing.
If a man sounds too good to be true , he’s probably too good to be true !
I can't imagine what he was possibly planning on doing when it came time to actually get married?? Just make excuses forever? This is so wild. Would definitely like a follow up after the trial.
There are so so many people that do this and it baffles me 😂😭 Im sure Kendall covered one actually. The guy murdered her to avoid having to tell the truth that he couldn’t marry her because he was already married 😒
Moral of the story:
If it's too good to be true, it is.
"The pope........" I would have been gone. 👋🏃♀️
"Sing to me Paulo" 😂😂😂😂
What an ass!! This story went completely in a different direction than I expected. Love your exposed series and your channel🖤🖤 please keep us updated on this dude I have to know how this turns out!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Paolo can’t sing music now he must face music, or something like that from sergei
There are two 14 year old girls missing ... Izzy Kring and her friend Jade ... They disappeared a week ago... There needs to be more coverage on this case... Please help Kendall
From where?
@@eloisewakeham8829 Arizona
she has a form you can fill out so she can see the case easier than through comments!
sorry I forgot to mention it's in the description!
She and her friend have been found... No details yet... Thank you everyone who has responded to my comment
I listened to a podcast about this case and the thing that sticks with me from that was this one interview with two colleagues at the Karolinska about when they got their research and evidence into Paolo's misdeeds ready to give to the institute. They had several large binders, so they put them into a big box to deliver, but they kept knocking around in there, so they got adult diapers from the hospital to sort of fill out the box a little and one doctor quipped, the heads of the institute will need those any way when they read what we have compiled on Macchiarini because they'll shit their pants 😂
It was just so darkly funny.
Definitely want updates on this case! What a sicko. This case was upsetting but having Lily in the background helped ❣️
An example of the saying “too good to be true”
DUDE FINALLY SOMEONE TO TALK ABOUT THIS CRAZY CASE WITH. I HAVE STRUGGLED WITH THIS FOR A YEAR ALMOST. OH MY GOD. I CANT BELIEVE THIS MAN EVEN EXISTS. I JUST CANNOT FATHOM
I love the kitty!! She’s making biscuits on the blanket 😃
Me too - total Love
What I don’t understand is how he would have gotten out of the wedding had SHE not postponed it!!
@@sel3355 like was he just going to do nothing????
Leave her at the altar probably.
Killed her
Wow! I live in the town where Hannah’s surgery took place. I remember how devastating it was when she passed away. I never heard this whole story behind it. So crazy.
By all means do a follow-up . I had seen this story before and was shocked that he has not yet been to trial. He most definitely needs to held responsible for everything and punished.
My goooooooootness. I am actually shocked as that woman is so intelligent and obviously aware. I'm happy she figured him out and pegged him LOL I like her style... So ladies, any dude LOVEBOMBS you like that initially and into the relationship, that isn't love or affection.. That's a huge red flag.
We need a video on Ghislaine Maxwell please!!! Her trial is currently ongoing
So impressed with how Benita handled this. So impressed that she was willing to let everyone know what happened to her (even though I'm sure it was embarrassing) in order to save people from him. So impressed with how composed she is when talking about it as well.
Lol the thumbnail 😂 I’m so used to Kendall’s serious-looking pictures but this one made me laugh
Literally everytime Kendall says Paolo my mind immediately thinks of Paolo from Lizzie McGuire. Then she referenced it in the end, WOW!
I havent finished the video yet so it makes sense now about all the other Lizzie McGuire references. 🌷🌸🐝
Yes! We need a follow up once trial begins. This is just unbelievable. How does this happen?!
Yes please do a follow up! I hate to say it but people like Paola will never feel bad for what they do to people, no matter how much the people they hurt want them to.
GIRLLL I KNEW YOU WERE GONNA BLOW UP! FROM DAY ONE! LOOK AT THOSE VIEWS! YOU MADE IT KENDALL RAE 👏 🙌🏼 YOU ABSOLUTELY DESERVE EVERY WONDERFUL THING THAT IS HAPPENING ANNND IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN FOR YOU! GO YOU!
