It's SO heartbreaking hearing Jelani's mom say "my son is important" while talking about how he deserves the same resources as others. She should be given as much help as possible. She is so strong.

It’s almost as though the FBI & Police are _PROVING_ that there’s *STILL A NEED IN 2022* for people to understand *BLACK LIVES MATTER* -m🚫re- _THE SAME_ *as other races❣️*
Mitch McConnell as quoted in FORBES magazine January 21, 2022:
“The concern is misplaced because if you look at the statistics, African American voters are voting in just as high a percentage *as Americans.”*
*It’s heartbreaking but it’s obvious… his poor mother is ABSOLUTELY correct.*

  • @MaybeMockingbird

I have to give it to that Newsy anchor for letting Carmen speak and not interrupting her or steering the conversation. He seemed really focused and intentional in letting her say what she needed to, he only spoke when he couldn't believe how she was being treated, and he didn't try to make her sugarcoat it or move from the topic to "save face". We need more anchors/reporters like that who are sympathetic to the families and willing to give them platforms - much like Kendall is doing - to help move these cases along and help find missing people. It was nice to see him be so supportive in such a meaningful and simple way.

I think theres a simple reason for that, we're across the other side of the world and it reaches a certain point where theres not much you can do. people go missing in america all the time, if we sat down and listen to every single case then you'll be there for ages.

For example- gun shot wound to the head will show a specific damage to the skull but the severing of an artery might not show any bone damage. I can't imagine how this is not being treated as a crime. We have a missing person who was reported by people OUTSIDE OF THE FAMILY as suspicious! That says a lot. We have a car obviously "ditched'. We have a deceased person. And we have items of value separated from the owner.
There has got to be more video footage of this young man and his vehicle on that day. Where is the video of him exiting the dispensary? Was he approached outside of it? Is there video of the car passing the businesses near the dispensary? Carjacking/robbery just rings loud in my mind. Maybe someone that knew him, maybe a total stranger. Definitely appears suspicious and not suicidal. Police SHOULD always investigate it as criminal activity initially until the evidence determines it is not. Same as Marshal Iwasaa case. Missing man, ditched vehicle which was torched. Police appear to not investigate as criminal because it could be deliberate actions. How about they prove that through investigation?!?! Then precious evidence and time will not be lost!

I'm glad you mentioned the river and the ecosystem. To further this, I live in Illinois and frequent the Illinois River over the years. The Illinois River has a well known carp infestation and is known for having large catfish among other fish. Carp and catfish are primarily bottom feeders and eat whatever they can. The advanced decomposition of Jelani's body was likely contributed by the fish. It is possible that he drowned (if he was alive after previous harm) because the Illinois River is also known for the undertow generated by large barges moving up and down the river. Even strong swimmers have been pulled under. I really doubt given the conditions that he would have committed suicide.

I think its possible that based on the coroner's report that Jelani may have been alive when he was put in the water. Its possible that the person who did this horrible act against Jelani may have been unaware that Jelani was still alive when he was put in the water. There is no way that he would have randomly decided to swim in the Illinois River (maybe unless he was chased and thought his only way to escape was to attempt swimming across).

To be honest I still think that SOME of the media and SOME police, investigators, coroners, and so on are choosing what to work on based on skin color. I've seen so many cases where they didn't move a finger because they were black. They didn't say it but the actions speak more than the mouth. It's sad that in 2021 we still face this problem and this is appalling.

@@deeaolivia It’s human nature. We all have an in-group preference. If you see someone who looks like you or your loved one, you’re going to relate to that person more and that can have an impact on which cases get more attention.

@@ohwellwhateverr That doesn't make it right or fair to put the family through waiting just because of the color of his skin. Never heard of Jelani before sadly. But I really hope you get the answers your looking for. I'm truly truly sorry this happened.

@@ohwellwhateverr This is true in the immediate sense of child-rearing. Once you grow up, have real world experiences, and learn compassion.. a decent person will understand that all humans are equal irrespective of race, appearance, gender, etc.

Thank you Kendall: for your recent tweet showing proof on how your audience lowers it's attention on POC cases!!! I always notice POC and Family involved cases get lower views. (I like to scroll for videos with least views to rewatch.)

I live in Indiana... literally one state over. I never heard about this case until now. That makes me so effing sick that his case did not get the attention it needed.
Much love and many prayers to his family. I hope y'all get the answers that you deserve.
