The more I listen to Yuja Wang, the more I'm awed by her. She's both a master world class pianist and a force of nature. To me, Yuja Wang is the most exciting classical pianist performing today. She's brilliant in both her technical proficiency, as well as expressive, creative interpretations. She's also obviously charming, charismatic, with sincere respect for her music and the great composers she admires. At 68 years of age, I've heard a lot of great musicians. To me, Yuja Wang has an intangible quality that breaks down all the cultural barriers, unifies people, world wide, and touches our hearts and souls. She's my favorite, all time! Bravo, Ms. Wang, Bravo, indeed! Blessings always to Yuja Wang and her family.
You have said it all. She is just wonderful to watch and listen to and because of her tremendous talent you are comfortsble listening. I am 74 so I can say great kid, just love you.
???? I thought I was acknowledging talent...that she doesn't just play the music, she feels it--it's not mechanical. Saying that her playing was perfect would have been redundant, I thought, lol.
OMG! More of why we love Yuja Wang: She lets Mendelssohn's brilliant arpeggio passages fly with the airy delicacy of a thousand butterflies, never missing a beat.
I have never heard this piece being played with such clarity and passion. Each sound is so perfectly ‘rounded’ like she hits the sweet spot with every single note. She’s just on another level completely.
Exactly my first impression. This type of expressivity has been attempted by so many young pianists as they started and became recognized, but she has been able to keep the dazzling technique her own without giving any of it up. here it is 10 years down the road...I hope I'm around for another 20 to see how si evolves.
Yuja Wang just amazes me more and more each time I hear her. This is IMHO the best performance of this concerto I've heard. The tempi are spot on and the music is expressive throughout the entire work. Her fingerwork and articulation are dazzling and each note is played with crystalline purity. I love her facial and vocal expressions as well - she is clearly feeling the music as part of her and not just as another gig - she is loving every minute. And kudos to the orchestra as well under Maestro Masur's inspired direction - he knows Mendelssohn's music inside out as he was the director of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig which has a great Mendelssohn tradition as he himself was the orchestra's founder.
The outer movements show her total technical brilliance - the slow movement shows she is a real musician as well - her soul is right in there with the music.
Insane. Completely amazing. All my life stresses suddenly don't seem to matter so much, knowing that this incredible music and performance exist in the world.
I have never in my life every seen or heard of such beauty and feeling from an artist. She is a joy to watch to see how she reacts to every note she plays with such precision and feeling. It's almost impossible to see someone remembers all those notes without any music. God love her always for bring Yuja into this world with the beauty she portrays in such a short time on this earth. Keep her safe.
I think the energy and phrasing she brings to this piece is exactly what Mendelssohn would have wanted. I can imagine hearing him yell "Brava!" after this performance. It's amazing how someone can take the "dead letter" of music written on a page and turn it into sheer energy and expression like this.
Long Live Yuja Wang!!!. Her interpretations are overflowing with soul, lyric beauty and flawless technique. She is young and pretty and entitled to dress anyway she chooses..
Not so overlooked anymore, I don't think -- at least, I've heard it played more than once on our Classical/Jazz music station. And it was not overlooked by the Grateful Dead, who lifted the tune of "Ripple" straight out of the second movement. th-cam.com/video/WQt2cBl0yKQ/w-d-xo.html
Thrilling! A great performance. This young lady is magnificent. Such clarity. Such force. Such sweetness. All this makes for a concert of pure excellence!
I admire so many of the extraordinarily fine pianists we have the privilege of hearing today. It is a great time to be alive to hear such wonderful artists, and I have several special favorites. BUT, Yuja Wang is sui generis. She is simply off by herself in her own class. The precision of her technique is so often praised ( someone once said it is "frightening ). She plays with such passion. However, I think it is the "clarity" of her playing that is enchanting. There is no muddiness here, which you find somewhere in the playing of everyone else. Therefore, you have the feeling that, no matter how complex the music, you are hearing it all, hearing everything that is there - Yuja hears it, and therefore, so do you.
You are absolutely right! I am helplessly drawn to the immense quality of Yuja's playing -- perfect clarity, mesmerizing brilliance, and incredible translucency. And coupled with unbelievable technical prowess and musical passion she stands tall and firm among all great pianists.
What authority for a person so young! Her hands are a delight to watch. He bodily and facial expressions along with her expert playing display the soulfulness with which she and the music are imbued. Such a delight in all respects.
@@fooksengloke3625 This is what is so special - she "lives" the music; others do also, but for many of us, she is out on her own. And a delight to talk to!
MAGIQUE .... I heard Yuma Wang play in Toronto a few years and also heard her speaking with the audience after her performance. She is charming, and majestical! Her mastery of very difficult pieces is remarkable - such speed, but such passion.
Cindy Yan No I mean from first hand experience. At least for the first movement (that’s the only one i learned from the concerto). In no way am I trying to bring Yuja Wang down a notch, if that’s even possible :)
Yuja plays with enigmatically combined emotional fluidity and robotic precision. What a sheer delight it is to know that human beings can do this! I loved the Mendelssohn.
Yes, Yuja Wang is a true "enigma" in terms of emotional artistic expression Allied to an almost "robotic/AI" technique pianists consider virtuosity. See my comment up above where I consider Yuja to be an earthly manifestation of a "LILA AVATAR", an "expression" of the Divine Krishna the Supreme Personality of the Godhead, who manifests in various human personalities to teach us Something, which we can only discern as time evolves and passes on in our lives. WHAT message a Lila Avatar is bringing in this century as an expression Known as Yuja Wang remains to be found out and understood!
The Mendelsohn never had a better performance! Yuja absolutely barnstorms through this magnificent concerto and almost leaves the orchestra in the dust. Is there anything this girl can't play with perfection???
"Leaving the orchestra in the dust" reminds me of the great racehorse Secretariat in his 1973 win of the Triple Crown, in which he outran the pack and kept speeding up so that he was ahead by 34 lengths when he crossed the finish line! So Ms Wang outpaces the orchestral pack because her artistic destiny is to express her inner energy and vision of this concerto, not just to limp along with the orchestral pack! It is a glimpse into the future of how reality will be experienced by humans , with greater energy, greater talent and capacities, and we see this glimpse into the future with Ms Wangs performance. 500 years from now artists will consider Yuja Wang a fore- runner of the class of pianistic talents that will be considered normal and constant. By the way, no great race horse has as yet broken Secretariats world record for the New York Triple Crown race in Saratoga and it still stands on its divine pedestal 38 years later (from 1973 win). These "personages" are the future showing up in our present to highlight the way to our eventual divine destiny.
Bravo Yuja, this concerto is really a war horse in your repertoire! Genius playing genius, never heard anything so fresh, childlike, full of joy, really alive … finally today, Mendelssohn gets his laurels while when I was a child, this was not yet the case. He was largely overlooked by most pianists, even in Germany.
This wasn't my favorite concerto before. It sounds very different. So I dug out my 2003 Lang Lang CD with Barenboim-Chicago S. O. If my memory served me right, it sounded more than ok when I bought it. Now it seems subdued. It is quite cruel to compare side by side. So I stop at this.
This is such a GREAT performance, it never grows old - whenever I need a lift I play this astounding performance and all the problems of the world drop away for its 20-minute duration.
This performance is magical. The youthful orchestra and soloist bring to life this youthful piece written by Mendelssohn when he was 21. So everything is in alignment, Yuja is also around 21 in this performance. This is my favorite performance of this concerto, thank heavens it was recorded for posterity on DVD.
Another note on tempo differences. There is a recent TH-cam interview with Yuja were she talks about her father who is a percussionist from Beijing. She explains how he was very particular about her rhythm during her early days. In this opening of this performance I believe that the orchestra slowed either under the direction of Kurt or on its own. Yuja maintains her rock solid tempo thus they are out of sync for a few phrases until Kurt gave a verbal instruction. I don't sense Yuja slowing one bit until the second theme. The piano is a percussion instrument and I think Yuja embraces it as such which is why this performance sparkles like the sun on fresh fallen snow.
I think not. Mazur could hardly be telling the orchestra to speed up. If it had slowed, it would have been under his direction n the first place. No, his exhortation was directed at Yuja, who was simply running away solo.
If you watch Masur's hands they are shaking uncontrollably during the whole concerto, especially his left hand making communication with the orchestra and soloist most difficult. I think for a few phrases the orchestra lagged behind Ms. Wang. She was steady as a rock! I commend her for not being thrown by the orchestra's problem or Masur shouting. Ms. Wang, as always, delivers an amazing performance. She is a Rock Star!
@@stanleyshelmire Well, I suppose we’ll never know, but I think the odds of twenty-five musicians spontaneously slowing down, or Mazur’s allowing them to do so (versus Yuja’s getting a little over-excited and speeding up) are pretty slim. And no one loves her any more than I do. Cheers!
Yuja's finger moves soooo fast, ... how in the world can the orchestra keep up. I only started listening to Yuja a few days ago, and she is unique, amazing.
All you have to hear her play is the first solo passage, and you know this is a definitive performance. Her playing is magnificent, nearly perfect. Her tempos are perfect (unlike Masur's, who drags them to irritating effect during the orchestra's first exposition of the main subject), and her touch is incomparable. I'll be watching this many, many times over. Thanks so much for posting this.
The more pianists I listen to playing this piece the more I appreciate Yuja. I just listened to Lang Lang play this piece, Yuja's blows him away. It's really not close.
melvin lenn I also love Alexandra’s interpretation best. Yuja is wonderful, but for my taste Mendelssohn doesn’t suit her very well. She plays very sharp and bombastic, especially in the 3rd movement, while Alexandra just flys through it
Mr MENDELSOHN.... thank you for composing such a brilliant Piano Concerto. Your jaw dropping Violin Concerto alone puts you among the top Classical/Romantic composers. It is sad that your name is not regarded as high as your peers...but to me you are as good as any of them.
yes, I also find him as good or at least as comparable as other romantic composers. Although, he was very popular in his time. Liszt was also a great admirer of Mendelssohn. I think one of the (probably) many reasons that he isn't as regarded as all other composers might has to do with Chopin's popularity. Liszt was as well known as Chopin back in the day but on this day not as much of course. So did that happen to Mendelssohn's fame to this day. Same thing happened to Schubert, only Schubert wasn't even popular in his time. (Sorry for a not so good English vocabulary, I'm still working on my grammer, so writing something detailed is hell for me LOL)
Just a note to share with all my friends here ...this Mendelssohn Piano Concerto Opus 25....Oh my, what music....played my Yuja Wang. Thrilling! A great performance. This young lady is magnificent. Such clarity. Such force. Such sweetness. All this makes for a concert of pure excellence!
In case what movement you want to hear, here are the timestamps for every movement of this concerto: 0:21 I. Molto allegro con fuoco (G minor) 7:18 II. Andante (E Major) 12:17 III. Presto-Molto allegro e vivace (G Major) Yuja Wang is an expert pianist! She was expressive on how the music feels, particularly the concerto.
Yuja Wang, never disappointing, I'm always amazed by her on point precision. All the emotion and dynamics put into this piece blends in so perfectly. This complex piece performed without flaw definitely goes to show what a truly amazing pianist Yuja Wang is. She is truly a fantastic inspiration for the rest of us and will always be respected for her charming and never disappointing performances. Keep up all the fantastic work you've already done.
Yuja Wang is coming to Mexico City to play the Rach 4 on Octobre, 2017. Oh! I am so happy. This is a dream come true. All my life I have been saving to go to NY, or maybe to Amsterdam, Berlin or Tokio to see her performance, but the mountain is coming to me! Wanna Cry!
The way Yuja embraces the melody at the start of the third movement @12.45 illustrates perfectly how much in sync she is with Mendelssohn's vivacity and youthfulness, she at 21 he 21 when he composed this dynamic and absolutely beautiful concerto.
Yuja Wang is a force of nature. The philistines who gave this fabulous performance the 'thumbs down' must either be deaf or stupid. Yuja is a genius of the piano. Full stop.
The extraordinarily brilliant and beautiful young pianist, Yuja Wang played Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto Op. 25 forcefully and with amazing flexibility - like Rachmaninov - with the Verbier Festival Orchestra conducted by Kurt Masur to sustained applause.
Every now and then I'm compelled to come and listen to this performance, it is just glorous. I have attended a number of Yuja's concerts, all memorable, and I would love to see her perform this piece live too someday.
This is beyond incredible. Her technique is flawless and expression perfect. How can anyone play like this? AND, how can anyone write music like this?? It is beyond my scope of understanding!!
The entire concerto is beautiful. It must be challenging for a pianist, BUT her performance is beyond perfection for me. Intensity, passion, hellish rythm combined with the most touching passage i've ever heard: the second movement, what she does, is... I have no words to describe what i feel, but i always end up holding tears.
There is a funny piece by Hector Berlioz, in the 1830's, describing a piano of the time having a nervous breakdown by having had to be played in this too many times!
you just said : "It is beyond my scope of understanding!!" That woman is a horror of our time, but mobs like you are the real horror, promoting that crap over serious art

One of Mendelssohn's great pieces, though less known than many others. It is a masterwork for piano and orchestra, and performed wonderfully here by Yuja Wang and the Verbier Festival Orchestra, with great direction from Kurt Masur. Thank you so much for the upload!
I have indeed. To me, they are not his best works. Still excellent, though, being Mendelssohn, after all. ;) Like other great composers, he never actually wrote anything less than great. However, I particularly like his concertos (his Violin Concerto is the best ever written, imo), symphonies (his fourth and first in particular), his Paulus (simply divine!), and his late organ sonatas.
Listened to Yuja again today. Best performance of a concerto I have watched and listened! There is this deity of youth energy in it, alive, pure, sublime, full of adrenaline, with uttermost ease and splendor. Played organically fast and fearless in force, the youth orchestra kept up amazingly well with Yuja. Was't Mendelssonhn in his prime youth when he wrote this piece? Everything is right in place, even the brief shout of Masur seemed just add a flavor in it and did not affect the totality of the piece. Finally, kudos and RIP to master Masur. ...Definitely a keeper for ages.
The brief shout you mention, i always had this doubt. It was for the orchestra? Or it was for yuja? They lost synchronization for some seconds, but im not sure who is to blame there. The soloist? The concertmaster? Anyway this is by far my favorite performance and favorite concerto. You cant play better than this
If by "in his prime youth" you mean "not yet the Mendelssohn who wrote religious kitsch like Elijah" (yeah, I said it), then yes, he was in his prime when he wrote this (1830-31, when he was about 21). But I think only the first movement of this concerto is great. The third reminds me of whipped cream.
@@GoldinDr Yes. this is a very nice feel good concerto, whipped cream is just fine for me to enjoy. I do not mean to compare it to other heavy and deep pieces such as Brahms #1.
A wonderful performance, unique in itself, Yuja herself being a unique musician and Kurt Masur with a great personality, sadly no longer with us, we are the beneficiary of the work of a great composer, a great orchestra and great performers with unique talent. We can say that we have reach the apex of what is best in the classical world of musique, a fact that elevates mankind to a higher degree of performance and stimulates in humanity an hint of spirituality so lacking in our day to day life floating on the illusion of success through accumulation of wealth, a crazy idea in all.
i wont say she is the best... coz above the heaven may be the 2nd floor of heaven which we do not know... however yuja wang is a very magical pianist in classical music and i dont wish she goes to other genre ever
The pianist interpretation is outstanding, fantastic, fabulous. The music is sublime and the pianist play the masterpiece with an extraordinary sentiment and talent. Bravissimo!!! The orchestration is exceptional. Good moments of joy and pleasure.
Fast moving piano passages with amazing speed and accuracy. Soft moments presented with such delicacy. Fingers moving at such incredible speed amazing to watch and listen too! Glorious strings add excitement and different moods, with brass giving a completely different contrast. Then those heart felt soft notes with just the piano playing with soft strings quietly joining into the mix. This piece of music takes you on an emotional journey, and Yuja Wang does a wonderful job of creating images in your mind.
Yuja Wang is a pianist who plays the most beautiful pianissimo, yet performing fortessimo powerfully, and playing all kinds of Classic Music astonishingly with great feeling. She is the pianist who does not show up once in a hundred years.
Yuja is a surprising mix as an artist. Technique brilliant. Attack exact almost all of the time. Great delicacy in lyrical passages. Sometimes too much oomph in others. She has a lot to offer us lesser mortals even now. She'll be intriguing to watch as she matures, so long as she doesn't burn out. Pace yourself Yuja. Thank you for this. Cathy
I always feel that Yuja is playing WITH the orchestra rather than just using the orchestra as a frame to showcase her performance. That shows her as generous and not taking herself too seriously. That she takes the music deeply seriously is perfectly and delightfully obvious.
Everytime I watch this performance, she connects with my brain... mesmerising. Imagine what a vivacious young man Mendelssohn must have been to compose this at age 24. He must have been bursting with youthful vigour and intensity. He died at only 38.
Seeing her messy hair has already driven me crazy, let alone listening to her spectacular performance! There's something so raw, so pure, so natural, yet so divine about this young woman!
A wonderful concert with such joy and spirit, made ever more possible with the impeccable clarity and decisive lyrism! The notes were just dancing on and bouncing off the keyboard!! Another thing I notice about Yuja from watching many of her performances is how relaxed her body is when she plays and that really carries her playing a long way. It seems kinesthetically she plays from her core, engaging back muscles rather than just relying solely on the arms and hands. Just watch another pianist playing the same piece and I saw how the tensed muscles cut her phrasing short and flattened the tone produced.
That was unquestionable performance and greatness. Mendlesson is not my favorite guy but she esxpresses this in a way I have never heard and I am blown away wow!

Always remember, Confucius say, “It’s better to have one with 10 percent knowledge of a subject with 90 percent passion, than to have one with 90 percent knowledge but only 10 percent passion!” Yuja Wang has 100 percent of both!
This concerto is so beautiful, I wish more people would listen to Mendelssohn more often. Even Liszt himself said that Mendelssohn was a Prodigy comparable to Mozart.
Please never take Yuja's pianistry for granted! One day you will see that her best performances, as this one of a Mendelssohn jewel with the great Kurt Masur is a World Première in its own kind, for all pianists who played this before totally missed the point. And then please you ask me how a Chinese pianist could play this so well while it's composed by a German Jew, who was not loved at his time because of his Jewish heritage, and we are in the field, we are in the zone, as it's said in sports. Yuga is a genius, and she represents for me the Genius of China. There will never be no second Yuja Wang, for her personality is transcending China and embraces, deeply embraces Western culture as well, and here especially German, European, and American musical culture. I love you, Yuja, even though you do not respond to my emails. I love you as my Goddess! For that's what you are. And you need to be worshipped!
vishnu Sreekumar The man has every right to harbor feelings of admiration and affection for Yuja Wang, even to fall in love with her. It's absolutely natural and healthy and involves a certain degree of divinity. Mrs Wang is a creature of prodigious talent and dazzling beauty and therefore can be the subject of passionate worship - like numerous music/piano idols from Liszt to Martha Argerich.
She is not a young performer. I think she must be an alien of perhaps 1000 years of age who happend to casually land on Earth. I don't know when this entity will decide to go to space again, by now let's just enjoy this gift from beyond the sky.
Fantastically beautiful and super-virtuosic game of Yui Wang on the piano! It's hard to believe that such a thing can ever happen! And Music is full of blessed enthusiasm. How much joy the soul experiences! Thanks to you every one !!! Tepper Michael.
Absolutely the best ! An inspiration for budding pianists. Now you know that you Will have to work bloody hard to get anywhere near her level of perfection. You may not make it but you've got to try. What a role model !!
I think the thumbs down come from clowns with nothing else to do but surf around the internet and play with sites they do not understand. No big deal. We have much worse on political sites that make a mockery of any intelligence. All one has to do is just listen.....really listen and love you will find.
There is nothing like having this incredible performance of an incredible musical composition in your ear buds while bench lifting 250 lbs. over your head at an outdoor gym (because of the pandemic). Absolutely AMAZING INSPIRING!
And let's give credit to Mendelssohn. There may be more profound concerto's, and certainly more grand ones'; but for my money, this one stands along the perfections of Mozart. There seems no superfluous note; just pure joy from a melodic heart, and such brilliance in the piano part and the orchestra. Masterly...
More profound concertos, possibly, but this one is so happy, especially the last movement. The way she sails into it is a joy to hear. Pure excitement!!

So many other excellent versions of this by others, but nothing quite matches this.
❤
Exactly my first impression. This type of expressivity has been attempted by so many young pianists as they started and became recognized, but she
has been able to keep the dazzling technique her own without giving any of it up. here it is 10 years down the road...I hope I'm around for another 20 to see how si evolves.
Dear Yuja, Mendelsohn would smile at you. THANK YOU for playing this masterpiece so beautifull.
I agree entirely! Very well said!
The outer movements show her total technical brilliance - the slow movement shows she is a real musician as well - her soul is right in there with the music.
Insane. Completely amazing. All my life stresses suddenly don't seem to matter so much, knowing that this incredible music and performance exist in the world.
Ella es fantastica.
Una precision .....increible...
exactly how I feel. Have watched this many many times.

Look at her dancing fingers going up and down... Yuja Wang is extremely amazing! She is seriously talented and gifted...
Absolutely!
I watched all the other pianists playing this piece, nobody is even close to the level that she plays. Her style and skill is just unprecedented!
Long Live Yuja Wang!!!. Her interpretations are overflowing with soul, lyric beauty and flawless technique. She is young and pretty and entitled to dress anyway she chooses..
Hear hear...
Omg! Her performance made me cry, a kind of happy catharsis of my oppressed emotions, what a wonderful therapy! Bravo
A mí también!...Definitivamente es....FUERA MDE SERIE....
Fantastic performance of an overlooked piano concerto that is simply marvelous and played to perfection by a pianist who is sensational, Bravo !!!!!
I've never heard anything more touching than the second movement of this concerto, played by this angel/demon of perfection. I love you so much Yuja.
Thrilling! A great performance. This young lady is magnificent. Such clarity. Such force. Such sweetness. All this makes for a concert of pure excellence!
+Dominic Joseph Radanovich That, my observant fellow, is The Oriental.
This performance moves me so, and all that is evil in the world is forgotten. Thank you for this.
Very interesting combination of Yuja Wang and Kurt Masur that we unfortunately won't be able to see live anymore. RIP Maestro Masur.
I thank God I was given the appreciation to love music like this. She's a wonder.
Yes, I do too
You didn’t give me a moment to breathe for 18 minutes. I took a very big one at the end. Yuja, thank you!
@Alexandre Claudio I also hear all the notes with other soloists when they are played.
Extraordinary

Her mastery of very difficult pieces is remarkable - such speed, but such passion.
the 79th and easily the best performance of this concerto I have heard in the past 50 years. Her left wrist must be made of iron!
The last performance of this concerto that I have heard and liked was Emil Gilels over 50 + years ago.
Does playing this piece tire the left arm often?
XTAYLORXBOYX not really
Owen Williams Are you speaking from first-hand experience or just trying belittle Yuja’s great power?
Cindy Yan No I mean from first hand experience. At least for the first movement (that’s the only one i learned from the concerto). In no way am I trying to bring Yuja Wang down a notch, if that’s even possible :)
She is the one of the bests pianist in the world, full of great energy, offered hundred percent . We love her with best wishes in 2018.
And in 2024 and in the future. Beautiful playing.
Her touch is always so clean and full of expression.
See my comment up above where I consider Yuja to be an earthly manifestation of a "LILA AVATAR", an "expression" of the Divine Krishna the Supreme Personality of the Godhead, who manifests in various human personalities to teach us
Something, which we can only discern as time evolves and passes on in our lives.
WHAT message a Lila Avatar is bringing in this century as an expression
Known as Yuja Wang remains to be found out and understood!
The Mendelsohn never had a better performance! Yuja absolutely barnstorms through this magnificent concerto and almost leaves the orchestra in the dust.
Is there anything this girl can't play with perfection???
Answer: No, there is not! Yuja IS perfection!
Hm, was heisst "even in Germany"?
My favourite performance too. Yes, the youthful orchestra and soloist, and the work, just come together magically.
WONDERFUL !!
Yuja's playing gets me SO excited!!! And what an amazing dress- and her hair is perfect too. Everything has worked in this performance.
Such an incredible piece and performance...that held chord transition into the 2nd movement is just perfect.
I think Mazur was actually telling Yuja to slow down, not the orchestra.
I think not. Mazur could hardly be telling the orchestra to speed up. If it had slowed, it would have been under his direction n the first place. No, his exhortation was directed at Yuja, who was simply running away solo.
💝💝💝💝💝💝💝 AWESOME ‼🤗🤗
Cheers!
Watching Yuja play--- phenomenal!--- gives as much delight as listening to this superb Mendelssohn concerto.
Yuja's finger moves soooo fast, ... how in the world can the orchestra keep up. I only started listening to Yuja a few days ago, and she is unique, amazing.
the fingers listen to Yuja cause She is Genius !
The orchestra had a hard time to follow her.thats why conductor shout tempo.tempo
The orch could just could not keep up with her and not to mention the conductor shouting “hey” in the beginning?
Quel talent ! cette jeune artiste. Bravo l'orchestre ! BELLE OEUVRE !
The more pianists I listen to playing this piece the more I appreciate Yuja. I just listened to Lang Lang play this piece, Yuja's blows him away. It's really not close.
That's not meant to knock Lang Lang either.
You should search for Alexandra Dovgan 10 years old. Playing this much more better
@@meplenn Not even in the same universe (yet)
melvin lenn I also love Alexandra’s interpretation best. Yuja is wonderful, but for my taste Mendelssohn doesn’t suit her very well. She plays very sharp and bombastic, especially in the 3rd movement, while Alexandra just flys through it
The world could be better... Everybody must listen to such music! exquisite!!!

This brilliant performance brought tears to my eyes.
In case what movement you want to hear, here are the timestamps for every movement of this concerto:
0:21 I. Molto allegro con fuoco (G minor)
7:18 II. Andante (E Major)
12:17 III. Presto-Molto allegro e vivace (G Major)
Yuja Wang is an expert pianist!
Wanna Cry!
HOW WAS THE CONCERT,,,,WORTH THE WAIT???
The way Yuja embraces the melody at the start of the third movement @12.45 illustrates perfectly how much in sync she is with Mendelssohn's vivacity and youthfulness, she at 21 he 21 when he composed this dynamic and absolutely beautiful concerto.
The more I listen to this the more I like it! She is simply wonderful!
Yuja Wang is a force of nature. The philistines who gave this fabulous performance the 'thumbs down' must either be deaf or stupid. Yuja is a genius of the piano. Full stop.
They don't like strong and sexy women.
Because, thanks to nature, Yuja is a very strong and sensitive sexy woman!
José Guillermo Molina Not thanks to nature, but thanks to Yuja's nature!
She is simply too fast! In that tier of performance, that is constructive critisism
Or even a geek tribe...
I greatly appreciate Mendelssohn's works all over again after all these years. He's truly genius!
Absolutely agree! His "Songs without words" are miniature pieces of lyrical perfection !
This is beyond incredible. Her technique is flawless and expression perfect. How can anyone play like this? AND, how can anyone write music like this?? It is beyond my scope of understanding!!
I’m with you joe. This is my favorite piano performance.
Pletnev would play like this,
and Mendelssohn wrote this.
you just said : "It is beyond my scope of understanding!!" That woman is a horror of our time, but mobs like you are the real horror, promoting that crap over serious art

Have you heard his second symphony? The hymn of praise. A work of absolute genius.
You cant play better than this
Eloquently put!
@@GoldinDr I love whipped cream!
@@GoldinDr Yes. this is a very nice feel good concerto, whipped cream is just fine for me to enjoy. I do not mean to compare it to other heavy and deep pieces such as Brahms #1.
Heavenly. How is it possible for one so young to play like this. It is inhuman!

An incredible performance. She makes it look so effortless. Prepare to be blown away!
Cathy
Just listened to this masterpiece once again. Wonderful Juja!
10 years later, no signs of burnout.
@@bruce_c_in_nz True! So she is obviously pacing herself isn't she?
I always feel that Yuja is playing WITH the orchestra rather than just using the orchestra as a frame to showcase her performance. That shows her as generous and not taking herself too seriously. That she takes the music deeply seriously is perfectly and delightfully obvious.
Everytime I watch this performance, she connects with my brain... mesmerising. Imagine what a vivacious young man Mendelssohn must have been to compose this at age 24. He must have been bursting with youthful vigour and intensity. He died at only 38.

Just watch another pianist playing the same piece and I saw how the tensed muscles cut her phrasing short and flattened the tone produced.
i'm in love with her hands!

Magnificent. Technical perfection, passion, lyricism, she's got it all.
A professor told me it would take me 150 lifetimes to play as well as Yuja and then he increased it to 500 lifetimes. Now I'd say never.
The playing is amazing yes - but what a true genuis Mendelssohn was for writing such gorgeous music!

I think it's the first movement where she was too fast? But I think it's negligible.

I agree with Charles. It's the orchestra lagging behind her.
I think the thumbs down come from clowns with nothing else to do but surf around the internet and play with sites they do not understand. No big deal. We have much worse on political sites that make a mockery of any intelligence. All one has to do is just listen.....really listen and love you will find.
@@magisterLudi1000 well said!!!
I must add.. when she plays you feel as if you are NEVER cheated out of a note. Nothing “sloughed over.” This is true of all she plays.
There is nothing like having this incredible performance of an incredible musical composition in your ear buds while bench lifting 250 lbs. over your head at an outdoor gym (because of the pandemic). Absolutely AMAZING INSPIRING!
I feel like i could be able to do everything when i hear the 3rd movement of this piece. Gets me everytime
And let's give credit to Mendelssohn. There may be more profound concerto's, and certainly more grand ones'; but for my money, this one stands along the perfections of Mozart. There seems no superfluous note; just pure joy from a melodic heart, and such brilliance in the piano part and the orchestra. Masterly...
Fully agree, this concerto is elated from the joyful heart.
Quite.
More profound concertos, possibly, but this one is so happy, especially the last movement. The way she sails into it is a joy to hear. Pure excitement!!
@@michaelfoutch1169 Agreed...
I would like to point out that the conductor, members, video engineers and recording engineers of this orchestra are great especially the sound of bass instruments is superb
