I'm right there with you as far as technique goes! I've been getting fantastic results since my navy days of shining my boots to a high mirror shine. My only thing is I've been using standard Kiwi products...I am going to look into some of these products you're using in this video to step my game up. I'm 31, and I have noticed most people around my age have no clue how to shine shoes. A colleague of mine was about to throw his shoes out until I told him I could bring them back to life for him. I gave him a mirror shine and had them looking better than the day he bought them. I think it's important to pass on this information to other generations because shoe shining is becoming a lost art. Thank you SO much for making these videos and sharing your magic with the world.
Colin Ashby I’m a JROTC cadet and I’ve shined my shoes for 20 hours total and they aren’t this shiny but quite close when I use parade gloss and a lightte
you prolly dont care but does anybody know a method to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
Best shine channel on YT...I polished shoes and boots and Texas A&M Corp of Cadets 50 years ago. A spit shine was required as part of the uniform. I wish I'd known about your technique back then. Thank you.
Because of your channel, I finally purchased my first pair of “higher end” dress shoes and associated Saphir polish items (AE strands in walnut). I can’t wait to get them and polish those beautiful things up!
Reminds me of my days as an Boy Scout as we had inspection every week and the Scoutmaster had been one of the brylcream boys as Royal Canadian Air Force Officers were known as. Spit and polish and being a gentleman was instilled into us. It has continued to be whom I am these continuing years. It has stood me well both as a military officer myself apart FM my University days and now many years retired. Keep the standard in front of the present generation. Thank you
It took me 3 months to learn how to do a proper shine. Now after a year, I still feel I have a lot to learn but here's a secret! Small Layers A pinch of patience :) Basically this video! It was great, it was awesome, it was satisfying
I know you say it a lot, but I just have to second the importance of patience when mirror shining. The first time I did it I was about to give up, then I put on one more layer and started to see the shine beginning to emerge. It's a great feeling. Thanks!
Awesome video! Very impressive shoe shine work. I’d love to see more videos from you. I am also interested on how you amazingly restore a pair of seemingly hopeless dead shoes. Thanks 🥂
I’ve always wanted to give that a shot. Maybe not on my boots of course, but if I find a reason to own some proper dress shoes one day, I will return to this very helpful video to make them all the more beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful video. Love the angle of the shots, the voice-over narration, and the music. I'd gone and purchased both these shoes (already had on my radar, but this video convinced me to pull the trigger) and a bottle of Bick 4. Thanks so much for the inspiration and instructional tips!
Awesome shine! I have some new walnut Jeffersons and failed at my first attempt last week. I’m using the exact products you are using so I’m so glad you made this video. I liked and subscribed!
Thank you for the informative video. You've got great shining skills and a solid explanations of each step. Would you bother making a video on cotton chamois? Something along the lines of: "how to make one on your own? how to wrap it around your fingers properly? Dos and don'ts of maintaining one" etc. Cheers!
Thank you. I will definitely make one. Preliminarily, you can cut up a cheap XXL 100% cotton T-shirt into strips to use. It’s the cheapest method I’ve found. As long as it’s 100% cotton, it will work just as good as anything I’ve found.
You really build trust with your viewers with answers like these. We can see you genuinely want to share your techniques with us and you're not just hawking products.
Please continue to make video's i found it difficult to find good shoe shine videos on youtube. Alot of channels said they were going to come out with series on how to do it but from what i saw none of them actually did.
When I was a sergeant in the military I was put in charge of assisting a 3star general and he loved having his shoes polished. If I only knew these secrets back then I could have had a much easier time.
Subbed, liked every video I've watched... But I still have some questions. Number one is how do insure that the shoe is protected from water and debris if I only wax the toe and heel and not that vamp? Also, when do I start by washing the shoes with a saddle soap and when do I only brush clean, can I harm the shoes by washing them or is it simply an unnecessary step sometimes? You soaked some rough shoes in water to start in one video, when would I want to and not want to do that and if I do it, can I acetone/strip first? Lastly, if I do a restore, are there sole repairs I can do without resoling or tools?
because of my ingrown toenails I can't wear shoes for a long time, but it's always nice to find videos with shoes being treated well. They are like dogs, always by our feet.
I used to have a very similar problem, see if you can get a foot specialist to remove the edges of your nail down at the nail bed, that’s what mine did to me and I haven’t had a problem since
Hi. Great great video. It's as relaxing to watch your video as it is to actually shining my shoes. I have a question. Every shoe shine tutorial misses one important point; that being to allow the wax layer to sit for a while and dry out before you start working it. I have recently started doing it and have found the mirror shine sticks well, stays on the shoe longer and makes the overall process quicker. Is there a reason why nobody tells this in the tutorials? May be there is something I am doing wrong?
Depending on the wax, the method you just mentioned will not always work. I’ve had varying results but no longer let it dry. If it works for you then thats fantastic. Thank you for sharing that tip.
Followed this step by step on my walnut Strands. Maybe my mirror shine layers were too thick, but every brogue hole was filled with wax. I'm not sure how you avoided it. I had to take a toothpick and gently remove the polish from every hole in the toe cap. Thoughts? I also saw some darkening around some of the holes. I'm guessing some water got in, even though I was just tapping my ice cube. I'm hoping they'll disappear if they dry overnight. Thanks, Preston!
That's a very handsome pair of shoes! I had never heard of that super shine before. Is that a special wax? I might not have heard what you called it. Sure makes them look beautiful. Stunning!
What would you have done if there were scuffs? I don't think the neutral cream would "fix" those, would it? Great job, as I've come to expect. Just beautiful work.
I watched your channel for few months and shine my shoes regularly say once every one or two months. I have a question, do I need to remove the old polish by using renomat or saddle soap every time I do the regular shining? Or just simply apply the renovateur will serve both cleaning and nourishing function?
Very helpful video thank you. After completing this process, is it fine to use bick 4 on top of the previous layers of the saphir shoe cream or do you need to strip the previous polish? Also i don’t really want a mirror shine, is the mirror polish crucial to the shoes durability? Recently purchased my first pair of AE shoes and I’m trying to care for them as best possible, thanks!
Wow! Great job! Thank you for an excellent video. I have two pairs of strands, black and chili. I bought the AE shoe cream, which is supposed to provide a low luster shine similar to the factory, for both and also the hard wax paste for the black pair to get a higher shine. What is your opinion of the AE shoe cream, does it darken the lighter colored leathers? How does a hard paste wax compare to your wax method? Thanks again.
AE cream is serviceable but it’s not great. All creams will darken leather over time. Only neutral truly does not affect color. If you’re serious about taking care of your investment I recommend neutral Saphir cream from medaille d’or line. You can shine all your shoes with once jar and I promise you’ll see an immediate difference.
The Elegant Oxford You’re correct about AE shoe cream not being that great. I’ve tried the Walnut color and it didn’t help much. I’m going to stick with neutral shoe cream from now on. I’ve only tried Tarragon neutral shoe cream but will get some Saphir.
When I was in the Navy I always took good care of my boots because when you got a new pair it would take 5-6 hours to get the heels and toes mirrored. He does a good job in the video but that is a mid grade mirror shine. For the people who are willing to put the time in you can get a shine so mirrored you would swear they were chloroframs.
@@andyaitken4243 haha I used a lighter in the early years but as time went on I found there were no short cuts to a mirror finish and I would spend hours making little circles lol. After that I only used a lighter to melt a tin of wax that was old and cracked. Made it fresh and new
Many Thanks for the video (found through RMRS style group). If you would be so kind to make a video of the more dramatic patinas you make? liked and subbed!
I remember putting a good mirror shine on my jump boots every night which it took me a good hour to hour and half. It does take practice. Yes, I was a paratrooper which is why I used jump boots(that was back 30+ years ago).
Do you only apply the wax on areas you want to mirror polish, or do you also along a thin layer of was on other parts of the shoe for a thin light buff?

How are they!?!
You always have a lovely choice of music, adds to the ambience.
Thank you Elegant Oxford! You have taught me how to shine my shoes, and I will make sure I keep my shoes looking sharp!
An outstanding video on one of my favorite pair of shoes, the Allen Edmonds Strand in Walnut. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching, this was actually one of my very first videos. Glad people are still watching it all these years later.
Never saw Strands shine like this.. I have a pair and will definitely purchase these products.. Thanks!
Holy MACKERAL!!!! What an incredible skill!!! This is definitely an art!!!
I didn't like this tutorial, I loved it. You raise shoe shining, to an art form... thank you. Saludos from Mexico.
Muchísimas gracias! Saludos ✌🏻
I just shined my shoes are finding you around a month ago. It was time-consuming and it made me appreciate what you do even more!

Own two pairs of Strands and two pairs of McAllisters as well. Nothing fits my wide feet like AE's, this was a great tutorial.

Merwin Lao thank you! I’m looking for a hopeless pair as we speak to make another video. Stay tuned!
I mirror shined my strands yesterday! Thanks for the tutorials. My shoe game just came up a couple notches

SUPER super nice work
Lovely! Finally some video which describes whole process! Thank you sir!
Best review ever, you saved me with the water at the end now my shoes are shiny, thanks.
Great job - I like how you described what you were using and how you create your magic.

That's a gorgeous shoe
Excellent video, and superb work!
Could watch this guy shine shoes all day!
I tried your procedure and it does works. Thank you!
You are an artist
When I was a USPS ranger many years ago we were expected to have a shine like this every day.
Well done. Thanks for putting this up.
Nice background score. your video helped me a lot. Your work is amazing..
great video thank you. Will have to try cold/ice water, have always used very hot water, since the army and i always use cotton wool last few layers
You've got a new sub! Looking forward to more.
I own two AEs: boubon McAllister, walnut Strand. On Tuesday my dark brown Boulevards will be arriving.
So much passion! Subbed 👍🏻
Please continue to make video's i found it difficult to find good shoe shine videos on youtube. Alot of channels said they were going to come out with series on how to do it but from what i saw none of them actually did.

I agree, shoe shinning is an art, a craft.
Thanks! I agree
Very good job! I don’t know if you do this often, but it was an excellent job! I liked your style of video formatting and narrative.
Harrison Cameron Wedgeworth thank you. More to come! Stay tuned.
This is a good tutorial because detailing with caption ....we should give tumb's up ...
Great video. Thank you so much for sharing
That customer will be exceedingly happy with the result.
Cool, you should put links on for those products; (brushes, creams, shoehorns) I'm off to shop now.
Great tutorial. What was the products you used in this video again? I want to purchase these products soon. Thanks
Hey, Garry. I used Saphir! TheElegantOxford.com has everything you need
Watch my video called The Basic Shoe Shine Kit for a full list
Perfect ! 🔝
Oh man you made my day, can you please add a tutorial to how to clean for the CAT shoes in camel colour.

thanks for explaining why mirror finish is done only on hard surfaces. i have been a victim of overdoing polishing.
Wow! That’s pretty impressive!

You can use colored or pigmented cream. They get covered really well.
Can you make a video on polishing and pimping out sperry topsiders! That would be awrsome
Excellent

Awesome!!!!
Great job👏🏻
@2:38 - Two coats of cream polish. I'll have to remember that. I've been doing one.
I have a question, is it okay to put a leather conditioner in your mirror shine? Does the leather conditioner can penetrate to the leather even if it already have a mirror shine in it?
Nice!! I Wish shoe repair shops would take more pride in what they do, mostly quick and rough machine buffing that sometimes even damages the shoes.
Love your videos! any suggestions on how to enlarge a bad fitting pair of shoes? Ive seen a very wide variety of options online, but I need the shoe to be wider because of my feet shape, and don't know how to make them look great without damaging the leather! thanks in advance

You should do a collab with the brands you use to make the leather shine
First of all, love your videos!! Quick question: what happens if the leather do get oversaturated because of adding too much water? Do I have to remove the entire wax layer before retrying? Or can I just wait a few days until everything dries and start with the water drop and wax process?
Just wait for the leather to dry. No need to remove the wax

Hello, Sofia! If you’re in the USA, The Hanger Project, Trenton & Heath sell it.
If you’re in Europe, Saphir is in France so they are close by
