Honestly as someone who has known of Poppy since her very first TH-cam days, I fuckin love what she's doing. Going from essentially hosting a horror ARG, to making pop music, to blending metal and pop to fit the brand, to now just being a fully respected and fantastic metalcore vocalist and artist. I'll never understand people's resistance to Poppy, she's doing great stuff and we keep getting great music from her, both her own stuff and features. Some people need to shut up and just enjoy it. Also agree with others on the transitions, Poppy has been doing this for years, look at her song X from all the way back in 2018. It's part of her style in my opinion to just flip with no warning, it always has been. It's like a signature Poppy mark.

This is the first time I've heard the phrase "I need more WTF from poppy." That kind of IS the surprising aspect. Sometimes out of nowhere she'll just do a (relatively) direct song that's not absolutely insane. Which is quite unexpected. When she drops something, you have no idea what it will be like.
7:18 Give it time, Nik. She's trying to find her footings in the genre. And playing it safe, I think, is the right approach here. These songs of her would be underwhelming if she had already done three metal albums. But she hadn't.

Can't understand his criticism.. the whole album is so god damn good, I'm absolutely obsessed with it, everything is so familiar and still so fresh that it almost felt as if a long forgotten memory was coming back when I listened to it the first time 🥲 I have absolutely no complaints on the whole album and that's something I only can say about a handful of albums 💕
Come on my guy. Lol I love you but copy & paste this onto Spiritbox with Courtney's mid screaming, and it would win an award from you, man. Poppy is going off and stepping into numerous genres now; and considering her exploding fan base, she's crushing it. Song is hard af even for the majority of metalcore these days. 🤘
Poppy's been doing metal tracks since the end of her album Am I A Girl in 2018. And honestly a lot of that was more interesting because there was more genre mixing and surprises, especially on her album I Disagree. She got probably her heaviest and most abrasive on the Eat EP. Then on her album Flux she went a bit post-grunge in between some pop tracks. Zig was pretty much 90% darker pop. She's always changed things up but strangely this might be the most formulaic and safe material she's put out in a while. Jordan can write good metalcore tracks obviously, but these sound like BMTH leftovers, not like something catering specifically to Poppy's strengths and weirdness. I hope the rest of the album is a little weirder and she just stuck with the safer songs for the singles. Either way, glad people are noticing her, just hope they check her older shit out too. The Eat EP rips honestly.
Poppy got so much blowback for her album Zig. Truth be told, I was like "where's the rock Poppy?" But after listening multiple times after the album dropped, it's a wonderful record. I do think some of the songs could be longer and more fleshed out, but c'mon... I can't think of one female metal vocalist that would do justice on "Linger ". But yeah, if Jordan Fish takes arguably on if the most versatile post genre muses... And has her scream on 15 BMTH coded songs, he's not going to become the" super producer" he's expecting. Because if he can't break out of the BMTH mold with poppy. He's simply stuck to his one trick.
I won't actively listen to her myself but no denying her sheer talent and great style of music. Her screaming gives me that Dillinger Escape plan Greg Puciato era...like tearing into you with pure angst.
I love the hard cuts personally I thought it made the intense moments more intense and the feeling of flipping emotions from desperation to anger LOL could just be me though I probably have bad taste
I feel like she's just trying to make something more mainstream, to get her name out in the metal scene. Which I can respect, as long as her whole catalog isn't super safe.
Poppy is an extremely beautiful artist and human being who has so many special and positive messages to share with us as her audience. I am absolutely amazed by her brilliance as a musician and her versatility as a vocalist. Knowing about the terrible hardships that she experienced with her previous label and former manager, I am so glad that the metal community has given her a platform to express her authentic artistry, free from the pressures to conform to others' perceptions of what she "should be." As a metalhead goth, I absolutely welcome Poppy with open arms. Her album "I Disagree", which marked her transition into metal and alternative rock music was absolutely healing for me because I was experiencing a tremendous amount of challenges because of depression and bullying and it came out during a time in which I had felt completely at odds with my identity as a person because I was consistently being shamed and mistreated because of my choice to continue being darkly-inclined and expressing myself freely through my manner of dress. It came out exactly during a time in which I needed it the most and it saved me from so much suffering. It was because of Poppy that I was inspired to find hope again and it was because of her that I was inspired to become myself again. I abosolutely do believe that she is taking risks in her music, just that she is progressively exploring more nuances to her own sound, now that she is completely autonomous in her artistic vision and she is clearly so adept at building up heavy music atmospheres, and her cover of "Spit" by Kittie truly shows her genius as a metalcore vocalist.
Poppy has realized her potential, and is now beginning her journey into what we metal fans need. It might be rough for a little bit, but she's at least making music that doesn't sound like everyone else. I think she'll only improve as she narrows down her niche, but she clearly has range. I'd like to see her monopolize HER sound, and then do some crazy sh*t with collabs. Just my opinion, but I'm loving it. Her and Pretty Wild are doing amazing things.

Fun song, video was weird and avant-garde. Very Poppy.
Haha the confused head bobbing
the break down kinda gave All our Gods vibes
bleauueaaarghhhh
To think she started off as a pophead and now she’s come all this way
The first time I ever heard of/saw her, it was on a stupid Nickelodeon commercial when I was just a kid, and now it’s this. Bravo I say, bravo
Fun fact musicians like poppy are trying to keep metal alive and you are trying to kill it...
I'm confidant this internet expert would shit all over Poppy's track "don't go outside".
Dude literally caters to 15 year olds that think knocked loose is something amazing and original (and I say this as someone who likes the band).
@@oaktowndimond668AGREE WITH YOU! This man says he wants more “wtf” from Poppy. MORE?! Girl has been doing “wtf” songs for years and he didn’t gave af.
Nik rolls out of bed, puts on eye shadow, and metals. Respect
This is my favorite song. Love me some poppy.
I had never heard of Poppy until a couple months ago and I saw her this past weekend at LTL, she's pretty damn good. She joined Spiritbox after her set to do a feature and that was awesome as well. New fan here, first song I heard from her was Violence Against Nature.
She’s just getting started. Poppy is life. Poppy is light.
1:45 Fun metal guitarist things
This is the first time I've heard the phrase "I need more WTF from poppy."
That kind of IS the surprising aspect. Sometimes out of nowhere she'll just do a (relatively) direct song that's not absolutely insane. Which is quite unexpected. When she drops something, you have no idea what it will be like.
This song is like Spiritbox and Knocked Loose had a baby and I am so not mad at it
Poppy is way more interesting when she adds hints of metal into her songs than just being another metal artist
I still want a whole Popped Loose EP.
Cmon nik get with it 😂 first you can’t keep up with the transitions, now she’s too safe, make up ur mind and don’t just be hatin!
This is W I L D 🤣 was not expecting more of this from Poppy. Suffocate with KL was incredible tho.
The change ups are what make this song so great. I really enjoy your reviews, btw.
Poppy always makes cool catchy music! She has made my favorite pop song ever! (That Poppy - Lowlife)
7:18 Give it time, Nik. She's trying to find her footings in the genre. And playing it safe, I think, is the right approach here. These songs of her would be underwhelming if she had already done three metal albums. But she hadn't.
Nik had several wtf reaction moments on this and then complained that he didn't get surprised, idk what his problem is with poppy or maybe hes just having a bad day but he was so overly critical and negative on this one, genuinely made me unsubscribe from both channels, I've been a subscriber since 2018
@@Hewaryago watch nik's reaction to "scary mask". He gave poppy shit then too. That was too wierd. This isn't wierd enough. She can't win.
@@oaktowndimond668bro hates her clearly, he cries about gatekeeping in the community, has he seen how negative his community is??? When he does shit like this no wonder
She’s being doing this for years years!!!!
Can't understand his criticism.. the whole album is so god damn good, I'm absolutely obsessed with it, everything is so familiar and still so fresh that it almost felt as if a long forgotten memory was coming back when I listened to it the first time 🥲
I have absolutely no complaints on the whole album and that's something I only can say about a handful of albums 💕
her screaming is getting really good.
Nik at 5:06 : "WHAT, that caught me so f*ckn off guard"
Nik at 7:06 : "there's no surprises?"
Listen to her song Say Cheese from 2021, she's been heavy for a while. Plus one of the most crazy bridge choices I've ever heard lol
Fun fact: Suffocate is the reason i started to listen to Knocked loose and watching Nik's videos lol
I thought this was a banger. I'd love for her to go more into this stuff, it's fantastic love the abrupt transitions.
Poppy has been screaming for many years. She just has so much music it's not easy to find.
I just saw poppy with Fit For A King! I love her! ❤
This song feels like an unreleased hidden track that was made for a Call of Duty zombies map from way back in the day
The whole ending goes hard af!
I think this song is an absolute banger. And her voice on the chorus is so pretty
IT WAS THE BIRD
BWAAACK🤮 quoth the raven. Nevermore. NeverBWAAACK🤮.
I have listened to this track so many times
Poppy has already done heavy before you guys are just ignorant one of those artists who always tries new things and sounds, she's always been great
Poppy's been doing metal tracks since the end of her album Am I A Girl in 2018.
Truth be told, I was like "where's the rock Poppy?"
But after listening multiple times after the album dropped, it's a wonderful record.
I just discovered her. Loving it. She goes hard. I like the diversity of genres , and how she mixes up styles
We need albums, yes multiple albums, of this.
Poppy of the year!
I love the hard cuts personally I thought it made the intense moments more intense and the feeling of flipping emotions from desperation to anger LOL could just be me though I probably have bad taste
I bet he would absolutely hate mahavishnu orchestra. John Mclaughlin was all about harsh transitions.
Being weird about transitions is actually just so crazy coming from a dude who literally makes merch branded with "core kid"
ngl I love the transitions (or lack there of) I think they work really well w the song :] 🤘🏾
bruh her vocals are so gnarly
I feel like she's just trying to make something more mainstream, to get her name out in the metal scene. Which I can respect, as long as her whole catalog isn't super safe.
Have you guys listened to spit, it’s a cover poppy made from kitty but omg it’s so good
HELL YEAH 🤘🏻 One of poppys best songs
Banger of a song! Nothing wrong with safe, if she's still exploring the genre
now we just need her to do some hardcore trap / hip-hop and her journey will be truly exceptional
Poppy is a great artist!
Considering the only other song I ever heard of her was the one she became famous for, this is blowing my mind.
FINALLY IVE BEEN WAITINGGGGGGG!!!!
I liked the halfbeat triplets in the bridge tho. Those were a nice switch-up between the in-your-face machine gun kicks.
