  • In 2018, friends Guylee Simmonds and David Schnabel bought a 100-person survival lifeboat and spent just over a year transforming the utilitarian vessel with a mission to take it on an epic 5,000km, four-month cruise from the Sussex coast to the Arctic Circle. This is their story...

    Couple of questions
    1) how much fuel do you carry?
    2) what is the top speed?
    3) do you have a water maker on board?
    4) what kind of range do you have?

      3. The ocean is made of water, you don't need to make it. A desalinatior on the other hand...

Being a pan avid nautical history/fiction fan, I was absolutely enthralled. Even printed out maps of area to familiarize myself w the East and West Frisian Islands. Followed the real life, fascinating story of the author Childers as well. Did u know Churchill enacted new Defense Laws due to this book?! Defense against an invasion from the North Sea. Incredible history. 👍 BTW the 1979 film w Michael York was just OK but whenever it’s on TCM I make sure to catch it! 😁

    • @dantakeoff
      @dantakeoff 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@alfonsosoriano171 Ok maybe, but for example in a financial crash the first thing people get rid of is their boat. In 2009 you could quite literally pick one up for free. And the conversion can happen in tiny increments. It costs less than rent if it happens while you live on it, a bit every day. And the product you have in the end is worth a lot more, so your expenses are covered.
      I would say though that the change in lifestyle that is required to achieve this might be more intimidating than anything else, but it suited me perfectly.
