    Have the seat belts made into a webbing hammock that can be hung out for occasional extra bed use or emergency storage maybe

    • @richardland9668
      @richardland9668 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was actually thinking they could make straps from the bed

    • @orlalifeboat8779
      @orlalifeboat8779  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm definitely looking into this. Unfortunately, red and black are not the intended colour choices so I am looking into the possibility of dyeing them first !

    • @Munch10
      @Munch10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@orlalifeboat8779 if they won’t be on view unless needed I’d just roll with the original colours! More of a talking point. I very much doubt they will dye!

    • @mikshepherd
      @mikshepherd ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could also get them weaves together to make cushion covers for seating

    • @LotharTheFellhanded
      @LotharTheFellhanded ปีที่แล้ว

      Or just use them as overhead storage, especially for clothes. Wherever you have vertical space above you that you don’t need, ie it leads to the windows, hang the netting and store stuff up there.

    personally id put the bridge where it use to be flatten the floors and build a walkway around the vessel with pontoons under them , you have a flat bottom boat thats going to bob around like a cork with no keel . having a helm outside like you want is fine in good weather and your going to need a large outboard to push it around say 150hp or so ! you could go electric with batteries and solar panels which would be your best bet , cruise around the world virtually free . the best place on a boat to sleep is the stern so under your helm id put the master bedroom you can put the head and gallie anywhere .it would be cool to have big windows in the bow and make it a living room . id build sleeping births for guests ( bunkbeds ) one on each side to sleep 6 total . you have a blank canvas do something different and wild and check out boat salvage yards for cheap parts , put the electric motor where the diesel use to be and use what you have ! just my opinion !

    Very well presented walk-round and through the lifeboat. Capacious interior space. I like the scow bow, and that everything's curvy!
    The outboard motor (no, you don't need 150hp!!), may be prone to damage in the rough and tumble of the UK canal system, so consider a steel tube bump-proof frame to protect it.
    A bow-hatch would be useful for mooring/ anchoring, as walking on top of the boat could be risky. Adding narrow side decks is limited, as canals and locks are narrow, 7ft 6", I think. Not sure about air draft (height above w/l.. go measure a trad narrowboat for max dimensions.
    Great project.

    I really enjoyed this first video. What an awesome project this is and I just can't wait for the ones to come. I've got to admit I don't like them "shorts", I think they're better suited for Tiktok or Instagram, and I know how much TH-cam pushes creators to make shorts in order to compete with Tiktok, but I think they're wrong and both platforms are completely different. Anyways, loved this first one Johnny. Keep up the awesome work, mate. Cheers from Paris where I hope to be seeing you navigate on the Seine river some day ! 🙂

    • @orlalifeboat8779
      @orlalifeboat8779  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      completely agreed Franz. It is quite daunting trying to make these longer form videos (and I have no clue whether or not they'll go down well) but I know if I was watching a project in short-form content only, I would like to be able to see longer videos! Likewise, Paris is on the boat's bucketlist !

    use the belts for securing storage or as bed straps, a hammock, but whatever you do should definitely try and keep some of her herritage with bits like the belts, also dont forget insulation maybe even spray foam like people do when converting vans loving this hope to keep seeing progress

    • @orlalifeboat8779

    I do have a question. You mentioned using it in the canals. How does the width of this measure up to a typical canal boat and wont it be too tall to go under bridges and walkways? Sorry if that is a dumb question. I am from the USA and all i know of the canals is from watching youtube videos of them. It seems like a very pleasant and relaxing way to live. The youtube channel i watched was Cruising the cut.

    Hi there, fantastic first video and a great project, really admire what you are doing and your approach - great work. A thought struck me when you mentioned that the heavy diesel engine was removed and there is little or no keel. You might have balance issues with the engine removed, you have probably already compensated for this and in later videos or have have received similar comments but thought it might be worth you getting advice on this piece as you could have self righting issues which could be a risk (particularly if you are kitting out above the water line). Anyway, Happy Christmas and good luck, will follow with interest 👍, Pat

    "if they steal them... fair play?" 😂 also I think you... might? want to reconsider not having any interior piloting space. with the weather in the UK being what it is, it's entirely likely you'll be needing to move her during inclement conditions, and only having a pilot station outside may be increasingly miserable. what an interior station might look like is up to you. that front window in the existing pilothouse is REALLY small and I think not practical for sustained operations -- if it's one of the ones you're going to expand that could still work. if you keep the helm station and its seating fairly small (maybe with some collapsible/move-out-of-the-way-able components?) I think you could probably still execute on your very good ideas re: the bathroom.

    I just saw on your video that you removed the ballast, OMG what prompted you to do that. The amount of ballast in the keel was engineered by Duh engineers to make it stable. Now you have to pay another enginner as in Marine engineer read fnning expensive to recalculate your ballast. Unless this is done you won't get insurance, no insurance company in the UK will touch you until a professional marine survey is completed.
