I love the look and I appreciate all of your Xterra videos. I have the same exact model you have, including the color. You've been a huge help if all my self repair efforts.
Ladies and gentlemen, another exceptional video by Ry the Car Guy! This looks SO much better than before and the sides turned out great. I was wondering how they’d show up on a dark color and it’s easily noticeable. Nice job Holmes.
I love the look without the plastic trim so I tried it with my 2011. Nissan added holes in the divot and pegs on the backside of the trim to better hold it in place. So now I can either plug the holes or put the trim back on. Learn from my mistake newer X owners.
nice addition to the grill going to follow your lead and paint my daughters front and rear plastics just finished the rails plastic and rear bumper cap it worked great u saved me a let of stress tks
I didn't use the camera you did, nor do I have a radio that will display the video feed, that being said, the system I installed has its own monitor which I mounted on the dash, and inputs for 2 cameras. GREAT!!...... only problem is that there is no way to reverse the video from the front camera. DRAT!! So I have gotten used to the fact that left is right and right is left. I mainly use my front camera when off road when I need to see what is directly in front so I can avoid some obstacles. Love the rebadging in the grill, it is great. Overall the facelift looks real good.
On your old Nissan front emblem some refer it as the "Hamburger" cut away at the upper and lower arch and remount it above and below the new logo. You can trim them down so it still fits in the existing mounting holes.
Honestly, I like my side plastic bumpers because they are very functional. When using a floor jack the bumpers hold the jack handle just off the door panel. Plus there are all sorts of scratches and dings in them from who-knows-what that otherwise would be in my paint.
Yeah.. plus I ended up removing mine which left me with 2 holes in both front doors.. now it’s taped up. Contemplating whether I fix the holes.. or just buy new plastics and adhesive.
Just discovered your videos. I’ll be sure to watch them all as I just bought my very first Xterra and she needs a ton of work. I’ve fallen in love with the car and intend to fix it as best as I can over time.
To fill in the holes, tape up the back and put hot glue and then paint over it. You could also fill in the back of the nissan logo to have more surface area for the tape to stock too.
Me again. I LOVE your videos! I am updating mine now. lots of interesting work and a few great ideas too. you may even like a few. Thank you again for what you do. I will be supporting you soon!
😂 for sure. You know what funny about that. My other car is push but on the dash so I don’t even currently have a car with the cylinder in the steering column. Old habits die hard I guess.
Front grille looks awesome! Pretty funny; my Xterra didn't come with mud flaps, alloys, or side moldings and I have added those on over time. I still want to do a ADO lift at some point.
Man after watching your video i subscribed immediately! i went suv shopping. I just bought 2005 xterra 4wd. I also ordered the same lift you bought. Thanks for sharing your knowledge brother 🙏👍
Put peanut butter over the adhesive, leave it on there for an hour or so, then wipe it away with a soft cloth so you don’t scratch your paint. I did this for duck tape residue on my wood floor, and it all came off with EASE when I couldn’t previously get it off by scraping before. You may need several sheets of cloth to get it off though, since you will be getting the peanut butter on the cloth as you remove it also.
12:20 I live by 3m double sided tape. It's holding my lightbar on, through bumps, mud, and highway miles. It's held my gopro on my motorcycle on at... excessive speeds. That stuff is the bomb. NOT knocking gorilla, just giving my personal experience. :)
In my experiences the quickest way I have found to remove those side plastic pieces on the door was to spin out of control an hit a fire hydrant, takes all of 10 seconds. I must say it definitely is on the destructive side of things.
Great job ! looking awesome ! painting my bumpers is something I need to do to my xterra as well... just need to wait for a good weather here.. NY... and for the camera thats pretty cool too , for me... my front facing cam is my dash cam... I know.. it won't see whats under the bumper.. but I works.. so lol great end result on your update overall
Great tutorial from a fellow Nissan enthusiast. My suggestion for the spot where you took the oem emblem is get a sheet of 1/8 abs plastic sheet and trace the outside of the old emblem cut it and you can either paint it red with duplicolor or plasti dip or put a red 3m vinyl decal sheet and slap it back on with either silicone or hot melt glue and call it good. Thats what I ddid and to me its looks great
Wow man! That is looking much better. I bought an 08 Xterra and Raptor lined (with paint thinner) the body with a dark red tint, and then raptored the bumpers and grill as well. Your videos have helped a lot with some issues I've had. Thank you.
If you have a rotary or DA polisher, it’ll get the rest of the residue off the sides. Compound and a microfiber cutting pad will do wonders. I had the same issue when I took off my pinstripes and my DA cleaned it up nicely. Good luck.
Very nice looking!! You make the process of putting on the black bed liner look so easy. It sure seems people have a lot of issues applying that stuff.
Se ve muy bien el detalle de la parrilla y los bumpers negros siempre veo sus videos! Sería interesante ver si al xterra se le puede adaptar un alerón o coleta para darle una terminación más deportiva. Saludos
It's probably frowned upon but when i had some adhesive left over on my Forester i used PB Blaster to get it off. It also works great for removing Plastidip
Take the old emblem, cut out the center and put the "burger bun" top and bottom back on, they would fit into the exposed mounting holes, kind of a combo of the old and new emblem.
Thanks for the video, man! I just did all of the plastic on my xterra a couple months ago as well. I used duplicolor trim & bumper in black. It seems to be pretty great material so far, it's really smooth and after a few days of curing, seems to be pretty tough. If all else fails though, a rubber coating that resists UV will be the next solution.
You probably dont give a shit but does anybody know of a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Jairo Braden Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
The Patrol badge is really good looking! Also on my Frontier, I painted the rear bumper with the black bed liner, but I painted the plastic step piece a dark bronze, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I haven't gotten around to the front yet!
Mine is a 2008 Xterra and my only worry is when I shift gear from Park to drive and press gas pedal it kinda jerk. Not moving smooth. I don't know may be its the nature of Xterra??
Hey man! If your ever going to get wheels and tires I am so down to buy your stocks! Love your videos by the way! You inspired me to get my Xterra as my first car at 16!
Hey Ry! Your videos are so helpful and partially the reason I decided to buy my Xterra!! I have a simple question that I know is a total noob question, but after sanding the plastics, do you need to prime them before spraying on the bed liner or can you just spray the bed liner on right after?? Thanks a bunch and keep up the great videos man!!
Looks really sharp! Nicely done. I had no idea that removing the side panels would be that much work! Hey I noticed your subwoofer enclosure is really streamlined and tucked out of the way. What enclosure is it?
Great video, I am looking to install both a rear and front camera on my '06 Xterra and am wondering what stereo head unit you got in here. I like the button interface for the camera display and just wondering what you have. Also is the video you mentioned about a full radio install on one of your other cars? I didn't see a full video for your Xterra.
Question: the front camera dose it records all the time ? or is its only to view whats in front like when if you were to go off road to see where you driving over rocks and stuff ? would like to know more about Idea behind installing it there )
Hi Do you know wich relay its for a short ligths. No headlamp. In a frontier 2006 crewcab 4.0L. What is the model of the radio do you use in the video if it direct fit in hardware. Not in the connector cables. Thanks
Do you have a video about replacing the plastics? I didn't find one. I need to replace the plastic on the xterra I just bought, but am not sure if it's too big of a job
Hi Ry I love your videos! I have an xterra and my boyfriend has a Pathfinder. I have a question about a Pathfinder 2005 it's loosing power and there are no codes at all. Could this be the fuel pump or Alternator?
I just watched your video and tbh, I have to wait til later to finish. However, if you haven't added anything to cover the original circular molding, might not look too shabby to split above abd below "nissan" using the chrome near half circles, trim as needed, and install above and below your new one. I have to do that myself. Lol
A Nissan without the “burger”? Oh Ry, how could you!? BTW, I’m happy with the old fashioned (2011) Fosgate sound system in my Pro 4X. I use a dash mounted iPad to play music and navigate - super-easy to upgrade. I would like to also have a dedicated smaller screen to monitor the 4 or five rock cams I hope to install. Have you seen one of these that can take multiple feeds and switch around like your head unit?
Yes like a security system screen lol. It would be awesome to have a touch screen. Slap a few cameras strategically around the x and quickly and easily changes views. That sounds dope.
How has the bed liner held up? Did you have any issue that needed readdressed, and if so, how did that turn out? I have a white 2005 Xterra and want to address a terribly faded front bumper and could get all the plastic to match.
I had someone install a pioneer touchscreen radio in my Xterra; however, now the light for AC/Heater control panel don’t lit up at night. What could be the issue?
I know it's an older video, but I have a question about colors. I have a 2011 Xterra S 4WD. My plastic color matches the color of the window edging/trim. Did you paint that as well? If I were to black out my plastics, my window edge/trim would stand out I fear because it's the darker grey (much like yours was originally). I love the content. I've done quite a few of the things you've described to my vehicle. Unfortunately, I'm not mechanically inclined, (or physically fit enough) to do a lot of the things, but I love seeing what you've done with yours.
Hey Sam, I did not touch the window trim. Once I had it all painted, I didn't notice it that much. However, if you are already thinking about it, it might bother you once it's done lol. I appreciate you watching!
Once you pulled the OEM emblem, I thought that you were going to mount the camera in one of the square openings. Since I plan on putting a light bar where you put your camera, I may end up doing that. Once warmer weather gets here, I have lots of projects that I want to get to. I believe that Vehcor here on TH-cam also uses the eraser method of removing double sided tape.
Hey Ry, looking for some advice. I removed the side molding on my '14 X to find holes for a couple tabs. I kinda worried now about moisture getting in. The molding is completely off and I don't think its going to go back on properly. Can you recommend any way to plug those two holes? Thanks my guy!
I would get some flat body panel clips. Those "Christmas tree" ones. If you put those in there you will have minimal water intrusion. MUCH more water makes it into your door through the window seal than would make it though that.
Hi Ry, I painted those side trim piece and I just tapped around them, 4 inches above and below, turned out pretty good. Love the video, this looks much cleaner. What hppened to the fog lights? I don't see them on anymore?
Off-topic question. I want to replace my stock horn on my 05 Xterra OR. Did you replace your horn? Or is that the original stock horn? Since I will be replacing my stock horn with two similar shaped horns (like the one in this video) I am trying to get an idea where to place them. (You've been a savior on so many of my questions! Thanks for everything!)
Nice video! could you have left the original round emblem on, and just cut out the part in the middle as you did the sides of the grill? I think it would look pretty cool to have the round part in the middle of the NISSAN ...?
Hey Ry, I have an '05 Xterra. Your videos have been very helpful. Thanks a lot. I noticed in this video you have a Panasonic stereo installed in your Xterra. I thought you had a Sony before. Did you recently change out the Sony? Why? How do you like that Panasonic, what model is it?
Glad you like the videos! To be honest I switch the radios out a lot. Right now I have a kenwood in there. I buy new ones when I get bored so I can do review videos on them. Nothing against the Sony. Just time to change it out. If you look at my playlists I should have a review playlist. All the radios should be in there. The latest review on the kenwood is actually on my second channel. Ry The Car Guy 2 in case you want to take a peek at that
Hey Ryan! First, thanks for making these videos! You've been my savior when it comes to working on my Xterra! Just bought a shirt to show support! Question though: I bought the same Natika camera that you used for my front facing camera, but the image is mirrored, i.e. objects on the left in reality are displayed on the right side of the screen, and vice versa. Is there a way to change that to display what is actually in front of the vehicle?
Thanks! I appreciate the support. On the camera wire there should be looped wires. Of my memory serves me there is 3 on that camera. Cutting each wire serves a purpose. One wire is for what orentation you are mourning the camera. Once you cut it the image will flip. Just need to figure out which wire it is. The manual should tell you.
So ive been watching your videos, and decided to paint. Im thinking of doing my rims too. Im trying to do this on a budget so i was wondering if you have done the rims before and if it stays well with weather and regular wear and tear?
Great video, man I love your channel! Question, and I dont mean this sarcastically, but what is the point of a front facing camera? I have a Blackvue 4k dashcam in mine, which records to an SD card, so its helpful if you need it for insurance and/or law enforcement reasons. But an NTSC front camera which just pipes to your stereo head.... I mean, Im at a bit of a loss as to how this is useful when I have hi resolution eyeballs already looking forwards....
Hey, Ryan. Can you recommend a good pair of shocks… Rear shocks, for a 2011 X. 4wd I am probably never going off road with it. Seems to be a lot to choose from, I was eyeballing Bilstein 4600 series. I’d like your opinion. Thanks a bunch.
Unfortunately for the Xterra I can really only speak to the OEM and Bilstein 5100s. The stock is going to be a softer "on road" kinda ride and the 5100s are for sure going to be stiffer. I will say when I upgraded to the Bilsteins on my X I really did like the on road feel. There was less body roll and it felt tighter. I have also heard good things about Koni but I think those are kind not expensive.
Ry, did you ever do a video about your mirror? I grabbed a Pathfinder mirror with compass and homelink, and you mentioned using fuse-a-circuit tap for yours. Was there anything closer to the mirror, like dome light, that could have been used? Thanks! PS - Methyl Hydrate for sticker goo
That’s for the tip on the MH. Yea I did make a video. It’s part of the rear view camera video. You can tap into the domes but you should really tap into something on the acc circuit.
Beware for people trying to remove the side trim. I removed mine and noticed I had a hole on each door. Where the trim clipped into the body panel. It seems this is only on certain years, mine was a 2011. I ended up buying new trim and painting it.
I love the look and I appreciate all of your Xterra videos. I have the same exact model you have, including the color. You've been a huge help if all my self repair efforts.
That’s awesome to hear! So glad they help. 👍🏻

I bought my '04 Xterra with bedliner applied on the trim. Very happy with it. Upper paint is bright yellow, and to my friends I drive the Banana.
heck yea, "The banana!" I bet it looks great.
Looks great but why can't you trim off the half circles off the old emblem and attach them above and below the new emblem?
Lack of ambition. Lol
nice addition to the grill going to follow your lead and paint my daughters front and rear plastics just finished the rails plastic and rear bumper cap it worked great u saved me a let of stress tks

On your old Nissan front emblem some refer it as the "Hamburger" cut away at the upper and lower arch and remount it above and below the new logo. You can trim them down so it still fits in the existing mounting holes.
That's a good idea or Bondo the mounting holes
Yea i think I will try this at some point. I think it will look interesting
Honestly, I like my side plastic bumpers because they are very functional. When using a floor jack the bumpers hold the jack handle just off the door panel. Plus there are all sorts of scratches and dings in them from who-knows-what that otherwise would be in my paint.
I get that. I do like that it holds back the jack. I guess I dont think about it because the condition of my paint is wretched lol.
Yeah.. plus I ended up removing mine which left me with 2 holes in both front doors.. now it’s taped up. Contemplating whether I fix the holes.. or just buy new plastics and adhesive.
The holes were there because the plastics had little clips, that went into the body. I had no clue these were there.
Love the new black color and especially the Patrol emblem. I've got to do that to mine
Thanks! I think it turned out great. Very happy with it.

20:23 You stated that you spent hours trying to remove the adhesive. Was this statement before or after you used the eraser wheel?
Before. The eraser wheel made quick work of it,
Great videos. I think I'm going to do the bed liner on mine. AZ sun is wreaking havoc on the plastic. Thank you, again!
You welcome. Sub for more videos! 🤘🏻👍🏻
To fill in the holes, tape up the back and put hot glue and then paint over it. You could also fill in the back of the nissan logo to have more surface area for the tape to stock too.

However, if you haven't added anything to cover the original circular molding, might not look too shabby to split above abd below "nissan" using the chrome near half circles, trim as needed, and install above and below your new one. I have to do that myself. Lol
Yea I talk a lot... I like the idea and was thinking of picking up a junk yard emblem to try that out
Thanks, informative
You're welcome
👍🏻
Radiator and overflow tank have near identical caps. Which goes where? There’s been lots of debate on this.
Radiator gets the flat cap (no spring), Overflow gets the pressure release cap (c/w pressure release spring).
What paint/color was used to black out the grill? Looks nice.
Bedliner - I think it's just called black. Nothing special. Glad you like it. I love how it turned out.
What grit sand paper did you use to sand?
Hey Ry, what happened to those fog lights you installed previously ?
Not even ONE WEEK after I had them installed some shit flew up from the road and shattered both lenses. I was pppiiiiiiisssseed LOL
Bumpers look great! Did you use bed liner? If so what brand did you use? Love your videos by the way.
Don't fret about making it water tight.
Those are stock horns and they are in a pretty accessible area. I would like to do that job one day. I'll probably make a video,
Nice video! could you have left the original round emblem on, and just cut out the part in the middle as you did the sides of the grill? I think it would look pretty cool to have the round part in the middle of the NISSAN ...?
I was considering that. I might try it to see how it goes. If I do I will do a community post about it. If you’re subbed you will see it pop up.
Ry The Car Guy 2 in case you want to take a peek at that
@@Rythecarguy OK, thanks for the response. I'll check that out.
🤘🏻👍🏻
@@Rythecarguy thank you!!
So ive been watching your videos, and decided to paint. Im thinking of doing my rims too. Im trying to do this on a budget so i was wondering if you have done the rims before and if it stays well with weather and regular wear and tear?
I have not painted rims yet but I plan to.
Pretty cool mod. Is there any way to make it act like a dash cam?
Some Head-Units will record camera inputs, if you find one of those it should record for you.
I like that it looks awesome
Thanks man! It's proven to be pretty divisive. 😄
It would mostly be utilized for rock crawling. Getting an idea of how close you are to obstacles and how to navigate around them
Hey, Ryan. Can you recommend a good pair of shocks… Rear shocks, for a 2011 X. 4wd
I am probably never going off road with it.
How do you keep your headlights so clean. Mind are faded.
Beautiful machine 👍🏼🔥🔥💪🏼💪🏼
Appreciate it!
Beware for people trying to remove the side trim.
I removed mine and noticed I had a hole on each door. Where the trim clipped into the body panel. It seems this is only on certain years, mine was a 2011. I ended up buying new trim and painting it.
Do the later model headlights with the black bezel fit the 05 Xterra? They seem to the same fit.
Not sure. If you find out let us know! ;)
Nice work
How many inch lift is that and does it ride smooth?
Hey Ry, how much bedliner did you use to paint all the plastics?
Ohhh I wanna say 5 cans?
Great video.
I really want a front camera for off roading. Do you know how to connect to the OEM Rockford Fosgate head unit?
No, that would likely be impossible. Do they even have a screen?
@@Rythecarguy yea it has a complete audio, backup camera and navigation.
I don’t know about all that fanciness, I have the base base base model lol.
