As much as it pains me from the bottom of my heart, Liverpool post-Suarez/Rodgers is an example of how to run a football club properly. Appointed Klopp, had a proper football structure behind the scenes, bought player profiles to suit the philosophy of the club, and as a result, were winning the UCL within 4 years and the elusive PL in 5. As a United fan, I hope the appointment of Ten Haag brings out a similar change in culture at my much beloved though derided club in recent times.

I would absolutely love Tifo to make a new "Finances of Liverpool" video because United just signed Antony for £85M and that has just taken their spending to £220M this summer. Liverpool nearly matched United for commercial revenue, but also played every single game of football possible to them, won 2 trophies and got to a UCL final along with finishing 4 positions above United and playing CL football. Yet they are splashing the cash (again) and we are being told that theres no money (again). I am in equal measures confused, upset and very annoyed at the whole situation, as are most of the fanbase. Would love for you blokes to shed some light into the situation if possible.
I am super late on this but United made a net loss 115 million pounds last season, meanwhile Liverpool made a profit of 2.4 million pounds. So unfortunately it really is as simple as one group of owners being willing to lose money while the others are not.
As a Liverpool fan, the summer of 14/15 was quite weird, every Liverpool fan knew what they were gonna miss when we sold Suarez, but there was a hope that the new signings would eventually come good and maybe balance the team altogether like coutinho transfer would do in 17/18. And Brendan rogers’s inability to do so kind of finished his stint at Liverpool and told everyone it was mostly suarez’s brilliance that so nearly won Liverpool the title. We defensively actually did became better in 2014/15, but in attack we were so much worse now, balotelli only scored 1 or 2 league goal, sterling has had a good season, but he left for city thereafter, Lallana was still a bright spot, we lost to stock 6-1 in the farewell game for gerrard, you could see the potential in coutinho, the loss to arsenal at emirates was quite damning too, and the transfer of markovic or his failure at Liverpool had so much effect on us Liverpool fans that now a TH-cam compilation isn’t enough to tell us about the player’s quality or his talent. That 2014/15 season was quite like an arsenal seasons of late, so much expectations but not much in the end
Liverpool even knew at the time that Suarez couldn't be replaced. Given the rebuilding process that had to happen (seeing as our title challenge that previous year was almost solely down to the forwards (one being suarez who departed, the other sturridge who spent the rest of his time at anfield injured)) it made best sense to acquire young promising players rather than an outright superstar. Inevitably with this strategy there is a good amount of unpredictability in terms of hits and misses. Overall I think Liverpool recovered pretty well.
Suarez was irreplaceable, a one in a generation talent, and liverpool knew it, but back then we did not have the money to hold him from going to barcelona. The 31 goals were without shooting a single penalty btw.
In hindsight, the summer of 2014 was the beginning of the end for Rodgers. We sold Suarez and initially wanted Alexis Sanchez to swap, but he preferred London and Arsenal. So we moved onto Loic Remy, but found out he had a knee issue that could be a problem. Then Sturridge gets injured so the board was forced to panic buy Balotelli, who BR had explicitly stated he did not want. Lambert and Borini were always meant to be backups. There was a mid season bump when BR stumbled on Sterling as a false nine of sorts, but there wasn't enough goal threat. It got so bad that in Stevie G's last ever game for us, he played CF.

@@stevendchu Rodgers was way out of his depth at Liverpool. His deficiencies were glossed over by the 13/14 season in which a "determined to get Barca's attention" Suarez and a luckily-not-as-many-injuries Sturridge carried the whole team for him.
Great video, though…what’s missing about Lazar Markovic is his time at Benfica. His one exciting 2013/14 season at Benfica was the main reason why they signed him, yes he was good at Partizan but was even better at Benfica. Imagine a 19 year old immediately making an impact at a club like Benfica, those few that do so have a lot of potential (think Darwin Nunez, even he was older in his breakout season). David Luiz (who played for Chelsea at the time and played for Benfica previously) said it would be a mistake if Chelsea didn’t sign him. Markovic even got comparisons to a young Lionel Messi, probably because of his great dribbling and the long hair. And he was FAST, probably amongst the fastest 30 players in the world at his peak. Unfortunately, we never got to see him live up to his potential, and to say he didn’t have it would be wrong, he almost scored the goal of the season at Liverpool when he hit a flying half volley off the crossbar. A flash in the pan is how I would describe him, really exciting when on it, but that style was never consistent enough to make it at a club like Liverpool.
As a Partizan Belgrade fan, and big Lazar Markovic fan since he burst into the scene... I remember the commentator stating on the debut, as Markec was to come in from the bench, that the young boy is faster than wind. Never really lived up to the hype. You mentioned that he is currently playing in Partizan, but, he's contract ended and the club didn't want to offer him a renewal, since he hasn't scored a single goal in the league besides being the club captain and playing on the wing... Now he signed for a Turkish Premier league club. His career was ruined by injuries and Rodgers played him as a wing back on those rare occasions when he had a chance to play, he was actually one of the best Benfica players, hence why Liverpool payed 25m € for him. I'm still a huge fanboy thought :D
Interestingly, Michael edwards didn’t have full access to the transfers back then. Lots of transfers were forced by rodgers as well. Which led to their own rift. Firmino & benteke was the result of it.
Yep. Rodgers did not want Firmino and wanted Benteke instead. So the club had to compromise by buying both of them. LOL Its almost a carbon copy of Liverpool's Suarez and Carroll signings in January 2011. It made no sense. LOL
emre can is kinda underraterd he was our best midfielder for years and even now (after losing form), he would be ahead of chamberlain, milner, jones and keita in our midfield
Moreno never really looked comfortable, so I kinda agree with you there. But we had much worse CDs than Lovren over all those years. Coates, Sakho (I was really hyped about signing him), Ilori, Cissokho, Klavan (decent, but no Lovren), Kabak... We actually paid money for all of these guys
Suarez in 2014 was the best player in the world, but since it was during the peak of Messi-CR7 and CR7 won it all, no way Suarez would ever win. Only way to beat prime Messi-CR7 was by winning it all and making others look like amateurs, something Sneijder and Ribery were never able to do. Suarez did, but he had no accolades to support his Ballon d'Or case.
Lallana was the 'trigger' for Liverpool press under Klopp. The first to really take to it. Klopp adored him. I always hated the Lovren signing tbf. Moreno was great at Sevilla. I wanted him, Shaw or Sandro. Any one would have been fine. Great debut but yeah, that is about it for Liverpool. Markovic got mugged by Rodgers at a crucial time in his career. It made little sense. If Rodgers didn't take to you, like Nuri Sahin too, he made sure everyone knew about it. Not working on Sanchez much sooner cost Liverpool big time, at least for the Rodgers era.
Now that Salah got the attention from pretty much everyone I think it was best for Lallana to leave. He don't think he would start every game Migolett should've stayed though. That's for sure.
They def could have spent the money better ... but as an Arsenal fan, I loved the post Suarez era... im glad we no longer had to worry about him, and instead had to deal with Rickie Lambert and an incosistent Balotelli 😁😋
@Trolling Deep i know your kind, your life is so depressing and pathetic that the only thing you can take pride in is a team whose achievements have nothing to do with you 🤣
You dealt with Lambert and Balotelli for one season......and even then you couldn't even win at Anfield lmaooo As soon as Klopp came in, Firmino Mane and then Salah took turns scoring for fun against Arsenal.
I had more fun watching that’s season than any klopp season. Suarez was genius who won games single handedly and the shoot outs had me on the seat all the time watching on tv.
Can you make a video about the defenders who played next to Jose fonte. They have almost a combined value of 200m VVD, botman, Diaz, shaw, clyne, lovren, chambers, Gabriël
I know Liverpool fans will be enjoying United's form at the moment, but nothing will beat Gerrard playing Billy Big Balls, declaring, 'this does not slip' for the Sky cameras only for him to slip the next week! That's still a priceless moment! Before the saltiness decends on me en mass, I have to say that Suarez goal against Newcastle was so special, I remember exactly where I was when I saw it. A beautiful goal!
Great video, Tifo. If i may request, can you make a video about "The Eden Hazard 8", which are Kovacic, Mendy, Werner, Havertz, Ziyech, Chilwell, Silva, and Sarr?
You can see why us liverpool fans are so in your face. Our darkest banter days are behind and klopp is here. Hopefully it won't be that bad again. Enjoying other teams meltdown rn though
Can used to “aspire” to be a no 8 while playing as no 6 - see his vanishing act while playing against Spurs that 4-1 everyone hangs on Lovern. Try and spot him the goal replays and you’d swear he wasn’t in the side that day.
I think Moreno gets a lot of stick he didn't necessarily deserve. I see a lot of the same criticism directed at Trent, but Trent's a set-piece taker and he's English, and he had done better in the bigger moments. Trent is absolutely the better player - I'm not saying Albie was ever at his level - but I think the two of them tend to be criticised for the same thing - caught upfield, exposed in certain 1v1 situations etc.

Are you saying Firmino is a bad signing?
@@royvandermarel3953 Firmino was a signed by Edwards but Rodgers didn't want him and signed Benteke at the same time
Rodgers has a calamitous transfer record. The Firmino & Benteke debacle and some of Leicester's signings recently shows that.
@@cinder15 Thank you for the clarification. I guess I misread/misunderstood what the OP was saying
Yep. Rodgers did not want Firmino and wanted Benteke instead. So the club had to compromise by buying both of them. LOL
Its almost a carbon copy of Liverpool's Suarez and Carroll signings in January 2011. It made no sense. LOL
SAS was amazing
Kids nowdays will never know how good Lazar Marković was
Can scored one of the craziest bicycle kicks I’ve ever seen, must be said
Emre-chan was the third best Japanese player in premiership history after Kagawa-san and Aguero-kun. Little overfamilier if you ask me ho-ho-ho
So you could say that Suarez and Carroll are the “Torres 2”? Weird title of a video.
I can listen to this narrator all day.
emre can is kinda underraterd
he was our best midfielder for years
and even now (after losing form), he would be ahead of chamberlain, milner, jones and keita in our midfield
This was a really cool video, would love to see more like it for other clubs whose stars left
2:04
GOAT ALERT!
To be fair except for Balotelli all the other 7 weren't too bad, just that selling Suarez was like giving away the magic ability of a wizard
Recognise change. That wasn’t an unnecessarily destructive piece at all. Well played. 👏
It was the last time Daniel Sturridge was a proper baller, linking up with Luis Suarez.
Moreno and Lovren were the cause of many headaches during their time with LFC, my club.
Spot on
Racist. Loveren was great defender
Lovren was immense in the 2018 CL final against Madrid. Got an assist and some important tackles.
@@DUNDOM5 racist is when someone say something I don't like
Suarez in 2014 was the best player in the world, but since it was during the peak of Messi-CR7 and CR7 won it all, no way Suarez would ever win. Only way to beat prime Messi-CR7 was by winning it all and making others look like amateurs, something Sneijder and Ribery were never able to do. Suarez did, but he had no accolades to support his Ballon d'Or case.
I honestly thought this was a video about all the footballers named Luis Suarez, and I'm disappointed that its not
Lallana was the 'trigger' for Liverpool press under Klopp.
Darwin nunez today head popping a defender and get send away, gave me a flashback on Luiz Suarez beating days😂
They def could have spent the money better ... but as an Arsenal fan, I loved the post Suarez era... im glad we no longer had to worry about him, and instead had to deal with Rickie Lambert and an incosistent Balotelli 😁😋
@Trolling Deep i know your kind, your life is so depressing and pathetic that the only thing you can take pride in is a team whose achievements have nothing to do with you 🤣
You dealt with Lambert and Balotelli for one season......and even then you couldn't even win at Anfield lmaooo
As soon as Klopp came in, Firmino Mane and then Salah took turns scoring for fun against Arsenal.
Adam Lallana is of Spanish descent which probably explains his style of play and so far has been in good form for Brighton & Hove Albion this season
I had more fun watching that’s season than any klopp season. Suarez was genius who won games single handedly and the shoot outs had me on the seat all the time watching on tv.
Best no 9 in the last decade. The only player that can challenge Messi/CR7 dominance.
Can you make a video about the defenders who played next to Jose fonte.
They have almost a combined value of 200m VVD, botman, Diaz, shaw, clyne, lovren, chambers, Gabriël
Add in international level and you get Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho, and Bruno Alves.
Plus legends like Jos Hooiveld, Mark Hudson, and James Collins.
@@tomwantshelp I mean who developed next to fonte
I know Liverpool fans will be enjoying United's form at the moment, but nothing will beat Gerrard playing Billy Big Balls, declaring, 'this does not slip' for the Sky cameras only for him to slip the next week! That's still a priceless moment! Before the saltiness decends on me en mass, I have to say that Suarez goal against Newcastle was so special, I remember exactly where I was when I saw it. A beautiful goal!
These Tifo videos are like therapy
I will forever love Lallana!
that's a lot of words for "Origi's the GOAT"
Do Chelsea hazard next
Suarez that last season was something else.
‘Member Bale 7? I ‘member.
Prime *Luis Suárez*
>>>>>>>>>>
Prime *Robert Lewandowski*
Prime Suarez even competes with prime Ronaldo. Only if Suarez played with a better team than Liverpool
Love these, the real question now is would you rather your club spent (in 2013ish) 110m on the Bale seven , or 134.5m on the Suarez eight?
Impressed in the correct pronunciation of Kirkby I can’t lie
Adriano: I am the biggest wasted talent in Football
Balotelli: Hold my antics!
Luis Suarez, Ate.
Great video, Tifo. If i may request, can you make a video about "The Eden Hazard 8", which are Kovacic, Mendy, Werner, Havertz, Ziyech, Chilwell, Silva, and Sarr?
I've secretly been waiting for this video
Without Klopp as coach Mane, Salah and Firmino would have struggled.
On paper, other than lambert they were all pretty good signings at the time
Right this comment probably wont be seen but about markovic he actually left partizan belgrade in the summer and has joined Gaziantep FK in Turkey
Thanks mate
I liked this video very much, well done everyone.
Brendan Rodgers played left-winger Markovic at right wing back. Unsurprisingly, Rodgers today still can't set up a defence to save his life.
@Nancy Pelosi I don’t think there were many what ifs with Markovic, never looked good enough and never proved himself when he went out on loan
Make more videos with this format of cartoon-faces etc, we enjoy it. Keep it up !
U would like that BS, they should not do black players if you're not gonna do them right.
what a season
Some of those transfers were what Rodgers wanted while others were what the transfer committee wanted. The result was a disjointed vision.
Especially so considering Rodgers' later firing
Alot of more successful than I thought
If half your transfers, when you buy multiple inone window, are successful thats really good
You can see why us liverpool fans are so in your face. Our darkest banter days are behind and klopp is here. Hopefully it won't be that bad again. Enjoying other teams meltdown rn though
LFC gave Rodgers a proper time unlike MU to Jose Morinho. And we also gave Klopp a longer time to succeed.
Lambart, Lovren, Lallana, Can, and Origi were all good signings. The other three… not so much.
I literally remember watching “The Slip” I felt so bad for him
Can you do a video on statistics & "sabermetrics" and how the premier league uses them?
Bit harsh leaving Gerrard out of what the team was built around it clearly was still built around Gerrard just in a deeper position.
Can someone explain the numbers on the jerseys in the thumbnail? Transfer prices?
No Gerrard slip, no Klopp.
The Luis Suarez 8? Three bites, one handball, and 4 dives?
Still the best no. 9
lallana still ply his trade with brighton
The same thing happened to Spurs & Bale, only Eriksen turns out good off Bale's money.
We wouldn’t be in the same position today if that 13/14 season didn’t play out like it did
Can used to “aspire” to be a no 8 while playing as no 6 - see his vanishing act while playing against Spurs that 4-1 everyone hangs on Lovern.
