Spirit Spotlight: Bringer Of Dreams And Nightmares

- "When the moon is bright, and the leaves overhead are thin enough to let stray beams fall to earth, the Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares may sometimes be spied, an apparition of pale light and deep shadow. Seen this way, it will neither stop nor acknowledge attempts to communicate with it, whether by Dahan or Spirit. It might not even be there at all: perhaps it's a reflection of a self somewhere else entirely; the realm of the The Pathmaker, or some strange road that borders it.
But beings which dream hear from the Bringer frequently, even if they rarely remember it. Certain patterns may even call its attention, if drawn with sand and scatters with breath before sleep. Since the Invaders came, it has tended towards more terrifying forms, even well before the current conflict arose."
Chris Burton (Game Development Manager at Greater Than Games) talks strategy and gives insights into the various playstyles of the spirits of Spirit Island.

Yes, please do these for every spirit!
That's the hope! -Trevor
@@GreaterThanGames When's the next spirit video?
Yeah Trevor! We need moar!
@@GreaterThanGames LIARRRRR!!!!
@@AwestynJaxxxson due to the pandemic we had to decrease some of our spending and unfortunately that meant moving away from monthly Spirit Spotlights for the time being. We are trying to gradually increase our videography budget and hope to have more Spirit Spotlights out this year.
Funny story. I've found that bringer of dreams is actually op in solo. You'd think it would be really hard since they can't kill, but their defense cards are good and allow dahan to do the killing for you. Also the solo fear pool is really small and can get milled suuuper fast. It's the first spirit I try when taking harder challenges.
I feel like once you destroy two cities within the span of 2-3 turns, you’re on a roll. It’s also very much possible to win without heavily relying on dahan for offence if you just rush through the game and pushing invaders away from ravaging lands. Great for speedrunning
This is awesome! More of these for all the spirits. subscribed because of that.
For more BoDaN tips:
- BoDaN cannot harm the Dahan, so major powers which state they damage/kill Dahan can be used while ignoring the drawback, making those power cards extremely efficient
- Oceans is a very good partner indeed, but also consider playing alongside another spirit that has powerful but often-just-one-
symbol-away innates, like Earth or Serpent, since BoDaN can grant an ally a symbol to help reach their innate thresholds
Can one SPIRIT use another spirit's innate?
@@MafiulRobin No, there are some power card which allow share presence (as start range for powers ) and giving / sharing elements themselves. The innate power is specific for each spirit.
I need more of these!!
Looking at the card "Volcanic eruption" made me think about its lore implications. The power does a bunch of damage and adds blight to the target land. The Bringer does not do damage, but instead causes fear and pushes invaders, I assume by giving them nightmares about a volcanic eruption. Blight is still added because it doesn't say otherwise. The question is, lore-wise, how does the land get blighted when the eruption is not real?
In the rulebook it says blight does not only represent environmental destruction, but spiritual as well. The immense amount of fear damages the ambient magic or something along those lines.
@@cooly1234my theory is that it demands a lot of energy from BoDaN, weakening it.
Bringer is perhaps my favorite spirit as far as themes and aesthetic, but there is no denying that picking it means you are dedicating yourself to victory via the Fear mechanic instead of town and city destruction. It's a very different but fun feel for the game.
These are amazing and I want all of them.
Your videos are great and very helpful! I can't wait for you to make more! Thank you!
Love this! Althought, I would love more depths about the strategies and the structure of a game played with the specific spirit. What should be the first turns plays? How to use efficiently each starting power and cards ? What minor power should be prioritize ? Wich other spirits go well with this one?
This feel like a great overview, but I would love a guide kind of thing for the next spirits !
Thanks for your work!
My thoughts exactly.
No, the vibe of the overview videos are perfectly fine. Just enough to entice. Each one makes me want to immediately play with the featured spirit. Forums and written content is what you need for more in depth starting strategies et al.
I can't find a playthrough of this game on youtube that specifically uses this spirit. It's all the 4 common easy spirits and thunderspeaker. This also applies to the promo spirits. I would love to see a duo playthrough of this using Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island and Heart of the Wildfire.
Wow have I ever been misplaying Call On Midnight's Dream - we thought it meant if you forget the Major Power that you just got then you can play it immediately
I'm looking forward to see the spirit videos for the JE expansion. So hyped up.
Very well done! Keep it up!
Excellent video! Must do more 😁
Thank you :)
Woah I've recently got into spirit Island and this video is amazing, please do more!
i realy hope you wil do one for evry spirit.
When you get the option of taking a Major from that Power Card, do I still need to 'give up' a power card I already own?
When you acquire a Major Power, you do still need to give up a Power card, either in your hand, on the field, or in your discards.
If you give up Call of Midnight's Dream as the Power card you need to give up for that Major Power, you immediately get energy equal to the amount of Dahan on that target land AND then you can immediately play that Major Power card (paying the Major Power's cost right then).
Best Coop Can make this for every spirit? And expansion too plz :)
Always been afraid to use it, guess I should stop fearing Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares.
Just played Bringer for the first time and picked up Draw Toward A Consuming Void in the end game, sealing our victory!
