Hickok bless him touched on a point a while ago saying S&W probably cannot produce their revolvers like they used to. Possibly because of costs but also because of the machinery and experienced craftsmen and women who are no longer here, which for me is a great shame because unless you buy an old classic revolver like those hickok owns you won't get the same quality in the new range of classic handguns from S&W, that said it doesn't mean you won't get a great revolver, it all depends on what you want. New or old.
@@thedocter69 The revolver market is very small at the moment so companies can get away with cutting corners. Personally, most Ruger revolvers look like dogshit.
They needed to fill the void due to suspending AR\M4 rifle production. I've owned an original King Cobra and while this is a nice revolver, it just seems like a cheap knock off to me.

I would love this King Cobra, but Colt has priced their product out of reach for many gun buyers, if not most. For most of my adult life, from my rookie year as a cop (1971) up to my retirement in 2016, the Colt Revolver was "always" priced higher than competition. In the early 70's, the .357 was "the" ultimate cop six-gun, and only a couple of brother officers managed to purchase a Colt .357 (Python). Like other cops, I worked part time jobs so I could purchase my first .357 duty gun. We were issued the S&W Model 10-5, a great .38 Special, but most of us desired the extra power of the magnum for duty carry. Bill Ruger had just come out with the Security-Six double-action .357, and for under 100-dollars. In 73, the Python was running in the neighborhood of 300-dollars, a price too huge for most young cops to come up with. The most popular .357 in 73 was the S&W Model 19 Combat Magnum. This was about a 250-dollar six-shooter then, and most cops opted for it. Bill Ruger had fellas like me in mind when he brought out his rugged Security-Six for 89-dollars. That rugged revolver lasted me up to 2016, a 43+years duty carry and still serving and protecting with myself, as a Reserve Deputy. When I see a new Colt advertised, I think back to those lean days of my youth, when the Security-Six answered my plea for duty-carry.

My first gun 30+ years ago! It was sweet, but all my shooting buddies had semi's and so I sold it to get a semi and still regret that decision. Adj. sights, smooth trigger, pinpoint accuracy.
I had a K'Cobra ( 6 inch barrel) back in the 80/90's loved it . Would never have let it go except for law changes here. Loved it to bits. Shot that and the Python regularly, ( and the Trooper) and it may upset some people, but I preferred the K'Cobra. Nice to see it make a come back , even in a limited form.
After watching this and several other review videos, as well as comments on purchases of the King Cobra, I was able to obtain one and all I can say about it is: NICE! It is everything that Hickok45, and other reviewers have stated - and more. The feel of this weapon, for me, is similar to the difference of driving a nice car, VS, getting to drive a perfectly restored classic muscle car. Now, that is all about the feel - I haven't even had a chance to fire it - BUT I WILL and I expect it to fire - like the classic it is - awesome! Thanks Hickok45!
Awesome Colt revolver Hickok45 !!!!!! I would love to have a New Colt King Cobra in my collection, next to my Colt Trooper MK 3 in 357 magnum. 357 magnum is my favorite revolver round.
Hickok you said you didn't like the release. You preferred the button or one that pushed forward. That release is "perfect" for a lefty. Try it. Instead of using your finger, try pulling it with the side of your second joint as your right thumb pushes the wheel through. Twist slam ejector rod with palm of left hand. It's fast & smooth with a little practice. As a lefty it's my preferred design.
A 2020 king cobra was my first handgun. I fell in love with it after handling it 2 months before my 21st birthday and put it on layaway, made payments every week or two and on my 21st birthday I took it home along with a few hundred rounds of 357 mag. I'm kicking myself though I shot the hell out of it and now I can't find ammo
I still have my 686 4" that I carried in my first few years of Law Enforcement back in the 80's. By far my favorite handgun. But it's retired to bed side table duty. To big for concealed carry. Never owned a colt, grew up with S&W. $300 in 1985.
I like it because it is "old school." Basic revolver, well made, smooth, and carry-able. No fancy do-dads, no laser, no lights, no adjustable sight to get knocked, no-jam.
Better so now. Colt Quality has improved since Mid-2020. They've worked out the Python and King Cobra quirks. CZ purchased Colt, so Quality and Quality Control will only improve.
I don't know why people are so critical of the new Colt Revolvers. They are just as good, if not better built than the old ones. The single action/double action on the new Colt Cobra/King Cobra is about the same as my Python. However, the new colt are more durable and better built because of the machinery.
Justin Booth I think some of it is just nostalgia for the classic look of the older ones. Would love to see Colt offer a classics versions of its revolvers with blued and wood grips with the same modern build! I would definitely buy one of these King Cobras though they look solid 👍🏻
@@tennisguyky they just unveiled the new King Cobra Target .357 Magnum with a 4 inch barrel and adjustable rear sight. As far as the finish goes, you can always have it made in a Royal Blue finish. They still offer the Royal Blue finish on the 1903 Hammerless Pocket Carry. I believe because of the amount of time it takes to polish the parts, and for the bluing process. The Royal Blue finish is only offered by colt through their custom shop.
Just picked one up today. Was originally looking for a Ruger GP100 with a 4 inch barrel. The Colt was sitting in the used gun case, the employees told me it was traded in by a regular customer who babies his guns. After a bit of salesmanship the employees had me sold. Pairing it with my Henry All-weather.
I am fan of Smith and Wesson but at the same time I am so glad Colt is coming back in revolver market and some new companies like Kimber entering market for the first time. That should be enough to make Smith and Wesson come up with better products and competition is always good for customers .
Love that idea. Maybe a cottonmouth and copperhead too. It would be something new and they could make it a badass firearm if they wanted. Picturing a Black Mamba with a 6 inch barreled blued revolver in .44 magnum or .45 colt.
I'll always believe and stand by the Colt Python being the prettiest and greatest built revolver ever made by a man but I am quite content being the proud owner of a Colt King Cobra and Smith an Wesson 686 Plus. I'm doing alright. They both are kick ass weapons.
Im at 2 colts currently. First one is my grandfather's 1908 vest pocket .25 and the other is an original cobra snub nose. Edit: i love shooting the cobra, one of my favorite guns to take to the range
I have and carry this same model and the trigger is sweet on this revolver. I do shoot .38 through it mostly though, it’s really a little light for the .357 imo. Thanks for the review!
I got my King Cobra late February. I hated the rubber grips till I shot 357. It helps with the sting. This King Cobra is designed to be a carry. That's why it doesn't have a adjustable rear sight. I carry it off and on. I can tell you I feel a little safer when I carry the King. "6 for sure" is right. I didn't like the brass bead. Colt has a red fiber sight so I replaced it with that. Don't care for that one either lol. When I brought it to range when I got it everyone wanted to check it out. I over paid for mine cause I wanted that early serial. Would I buy again? Heck yea. I will never sell it.

That's an EXCELLENT first buy. No gun collection would be complete without a revolver. I predict that you will always slightly prefer it over your semi-autos(once you add more guns to your stash). I love my 7 shot, 4", .357.
I have semi auto handguns, rifles, bolt action rifles, lever action rifles, shotguns, and one revolver. Guess which one I would keep above all the others, and which one I take to the range 95% of the time? You guessed it, the revolver (4" Ruger GP100 357 magnum with compact grips for concealed carry). If I had gotten the revolver first, I suspect I would not own any semi-auto handguns. Later I added a lever action chambered in 357, perfect match for the revolver. If I could choose one gun: my 357 revolver. Two: my 357 revolver and my 357 lever action. :)
My first off-duty gun, purchased new in ‘68 for $85, was a Colt Cobra snub. Great gun w/one of the best, smoothest, revolver trigger of any of the snubbies of the day. I really like the King Cobra from your review but could not justify the expense.
I recently bought a 6" nickel Colt Trooper, excellent revolver. The old Official Police and Police Positive revolvers are also excellent. This King Cobra seems good, not the disappointment the S&W revolvers have been for many years. The Model 19 Classics are just sad.
Revolvers, a very dependable self protection option, I love my Taurus 38 special, nice little gun easy to shoot and not to bad in the accuracy department.
Purchased a King Cobra. Love it. The trigger honestly feels like an M73 or maybe even a Korth. Smooth. Something that I have wondered: is dry-firing this gun ok?
Dry firing without a snap cap is detrimental on a revolver with a fixed firing pin. Dry firing the transfer bar firing pin of the Colt and most of the new revolvers is not bad for it. But as said above, a six pack of snap caps is cheap insurance.
When I bought this specific gun I forgot cleaning stuff that i needed but remembered to spend a few bucks on snap caps. I don't dry fire too much anyway. I used to have this old FN Browning Hi Power 9 mm. I loved that thing and always kept snap caps in it to practice off-range, I loved the feel of it, like it was part of me, so I'd be watching TV or whatever and just sighting with it, and didn't have to think twice about pulling the trigger, I kept working with the trigger pressure to feel the exact millisecond when the sear disengaged etc. Too wordy, 'scuse......Get the snap caps. They haven't hyperinflated yet, and the few dying dollars are worth it so you don't even need to ask the question anymore I'd think.
Just bought one in a 2in for concealed carry. It's a sweet piece. My tip for yall is don't buy it for anything over $900 before tax. Seen them at gun show for $999.99 while most gunshop/pawn have em cheaper which is why I'm saying this. Bought mine for $850
I’m betting they don’t remake the python. Does Colt even have the personnel with the experience and talent to reproduce it. They can’t go half ass if it ain’t up to par with a python then call it something else

"For sure"🤣😂🤣 you should just make a tee-shirt that says "For Sure"
get an old used one, all their craftsman retired, new ones not so good.
What law banned a 6” revolver?
Got one it was my first 357 and quickly became my favorite gun ! Can’t stop shooting the 158 grain!
Ah yes, the King Cobra. A perfect gun for any predator stalking some dirty 2 liters!
Great beer too.

Thecranebane,
He ought to have the longer barrel model...
I love that the Colt DA revolvers cylinders rotate clockwise.
they say Colt is unnatural compared to Smiths... maybe I'm dyslectic
glad seeing colt revolvers back in production. my 1st ever pistol is King Cobra bought in the 80s and still have it
Awesome Colt revolver Hickok45 !!!!!!
The new Colt King Cobra looks like a really good revolver, Hickok45. Good video, thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks again gramps. What a great channel/ personality. Keep up the great videos!
They just released the 4 inch target version. Would love to see a review on that! Great review as always.
The satin finish looks MUCH better than brushed/matte being used a lot lately.
I like it because it is "old school." Basic revolver, well made, smooth, and carry-able. No fancy do-dads, no laser, no lights, no adjustable sight to get knocked, no-jam.
Gave up my Colt King Cobra Carry for a Ruger SP101, couldn't be happier. 357 is just a beautiful round.
Gotta love when HICKOK starts off right into the main bout bustin them Caps. 👊😎
If you didnt catch it..Hickok does not like new age hippster revolvers with rails and key locks 😂
"weird stuff like that"
Exactly
Why get san San Pellegrino when tap water does the trick just fine?
The infamous "key lock" is Smith And Wesson's very lame solution to a non-existent problem.
@Przeciwko pax sovietica i have alot of guns and havent harmed any one....and im black
Colt has brought back the quality of smooth and easy double actions that are so lacking today in modern revolvers.
Better so now. Colt Quality has improved since Mid-2020. They've worked out the Python and King Cobra quirks. CZ purchased Colt, so Quality and Quality Control will only improve.
Just picked up my Colt King Cobra Target .357 Magnum 4.25" bbl. Can't wait to see you do the review on this new Target model.
Just got mine and it's awesome
I have a old school 6 inch stainless King Cobra. The action is smooth as silk. Colt makes some fantastic revolvers.
I don't know why people are so critical of the new Colt Revolvers. They are just as good, if not better built than the old ones. The single action/double action on the new Colt Cobra/King Cobra is about the same as my Python. However, the new colt are more durable and better built because of the machinery.
People are concerned about the MIM parts.
Justin Booth I think some of it is just nostalgia for the classic look of the older ones. Would love to see Colt offer a classics versions of its revolvers with blued and wood grips with the same modern build! I would definitely buy one of these King Cobras though they look solid 👍🏻
@@jagervw if they work in the Smith & Wesson revolvers with no issues, they should have no problems with the Colts.
They chime about the price.
I’ve been waiting for this video! The new Colt revolvers are fantastic and this is the best one yet. Here’s hoping there’s more to come.
I am fan of Smith and Wesson but at the same time I am so glad Colt is coming back in revolver market and some new companies like Kimber entering market for the first time. That should be enough to make Smith and Wesson come up with better products and competition is always good for customers .
Colt needs a Black Mamba. All black, maybe 10mm.
LedosKell Revolver or semiautomatic?
Revolver
Love that idea. Maybe a cottonmouth and copperhead too. It would be something new and they could make it a badass firearm if they wanted. Picturing a Black Mamba with a 6 inch barreled blued revolver in .44 magnum or .45 colt.
@@tennisguyky that's what Colt needs to be doing! These are completely new guns, use new snake names!
@@tlshortyshorty5810 Hmm....snake named autoloaders..........👍.
I'll always believe and stand by the Colt Python being the prettiest and greatest built revolver ever made by a man but I am quite content being the proud owner of a Colt King Cobra and Smith an Wesson 686 Plus. I'm doing alright. They both are kick ass weapons.
Colt, keeping it classy for almost 200 years.
Need a snake comparison video with the Cobra, King Cobra, Python, and Anaconda.
Also Boa, Viper, and Diamondback. Get them all involved. :)
I have 3 colts! 2 are 1911’s and the other is the 6920!
Im at 2 colts currently. First one is my grandfather's 1908 vest pocket .25 and the other is an original cobra snub nose. Edit: i love shooting the cobra, one of my favorite guns to take to the range

This is what, I love about Colt; Is the grey area, between nickel plated, and blued out. A nice chrome revolver 🔫!
I just bought one this week, it’s a beauty
What kind of holster do you use for this if you don't mind me asking?
Best review I have seen so far. You don't drone on and on about the specs like it's just another gun and love your personal knowledge and humor, reminds me a lot of my Papa.
Subscribing and watching the rest of your vids! 👍🏼
I have become a convert to Colt revolvers! After that video on the other Colt pistol from a few weeks back I must say I prefer them to the S&W classics.
A really, _really_ nice gun!
Have you looked at the Kimber K6S yet?

Thank you for the gun review. I am most impressed with your ability to shoot any gun and hit your target. The gong especially.
I am a revolver type of guy, And I might look into getting one of these. Thanks for the detailed review!
Been watching a load of old Hickok vids and this man hasn’t aged at all
I just purchased one of these and did have a little trouble with it hanging up. Tight tolerances I believe, it cleaned right up though. Kramer leather makes holsters for it.
Just got mine today, thanks for the holster recommendation!

Hickok45 great video. Revolvers and Johnny Cash, a perfect pair. Colt King Cobra is an awesome revolver. On my wish list, got to shoot a friends a couple of times.

Would you buy it again?
Shooting magnum lefthanded; Your hand healed ok, i reckon? Hope Colt is gona make the other snake revolvers to! Thanks for sharing, and greets from the Netherlands. T.
As of right now my only gun is a revolver. I think i done good for my first buy
YondaimeRaijin 55 years ago, my first two pistols were revolvers, and they still are my favorite pistols.
That's an EXCELLENT first buy. No gun collection would be complete without a revolver. I predict that you will always slightly prefer it over your semi-autos(once you add more guns to your stash). I love my 7 shot, 4", .357.
Yes you done good my friend.
Ruger Redhawk .357 👌
I have semi auto handguns, rifles, bolt action rifles, lever action rifles, shotguns, and one revolver. Guess which one I would keep above all the others, and which one I take to the range 95% of the time? You guessed it, the revolver (4" Ruger GP100 357 magnum with compact grips for concealed carry). If I had gotten the revolver first, I suspect I would not own any semi-auto handguns. Later I added a lever action chambered in 357, perfect match for the revolver. If I could choose one gun: my 357 revolver. Two: my 357 revolver and my 357 lever action. :)
He is spot on in regards to the Smith and Wesson. Hate the frame lock and sleeved barrel. Refuse to own a frame lock S&W revolver.
Hickok is the Bob Ross of the gun world
It's a "Revolver Revival" with the new Kimbers, Colts & Rhinos! Gotta love it!
My first off-duty gun, purchased new in ‘68 for $85, was a Colt Cobra snub. Great gun w/one of the best, smoothest, revolver trigger of any of the snubbies of the day. I really like the King Cobra from your review but could not justify the expense.
My first on duty gun was a king cobra with a 4 inch barrel, before I converted to a semi auto. Still have it and still love it.
It's a quality handgun, and easy to shoot accurately. Glad to have one.
Same. Have the 8 inch version. Can hit a dime at 50 yards open site. Most accurate hand gun I own.
True ! Colt you should listen. Glad that colt is back with a good looking revolver ! 😊👍👍👍😊 but offer diffrent barrel length.
God Bless America and Hickok 45.
So I saw this loved the review went out bought one. It was $1075.00 glad I bought it shoots fantastic. Your review Inspired me
I recently bought a 6" nickel Colt Trooper, excellent revolver. The old Official Police and Police Positive revolvers are also excellent.
This King Cobra seems good, not the disappointment the S&W revolvers have been for many years. The Model 19 Classics are just sad.
They gotten better blame the engineers
@@vtbrian3252 What does this mean? The sentence makes no sense.
I never like dry firing wheel guns, some of them hammers smack hard. Cheap enough to just buy a pack of them snap caps and not risk it.
Thanks for the info, folks.

Just bought one in a 2in for concealed carry. It's a sweet piece. My tip for yall is don't buy it for anything over $900 before tax. Seen them at gun show for $999.99 while most gunshop/pawn have em cheaper which is why I'm saying this. Bought mine for $850
Thanks for doing the King Cobra. Wanted to see what y'all thought of it before I got one.
Hickock is sooo freaking good! Bullseye! Ding ding ding ding ding dong!
First the Cobra...now the King.....please oh please bring us back the Python!!!
Jeremiah M love ❤️ my Python 😍
I’m betting they don’t remake the python. Does Colt even have the personnel with the experience and talent to reproduce it. They can’t go half ass if it ain’t up to par with a python then call it something else
The Colt Anaconda is what I need to see.
They would be selling hard especially after the walking dead
@google Lavon Affair I recently bought a 6" nickel Trooper, excellent trigger, very pretty, not as delicate as the Python, which is a beautiful revolver, my FFL friend has an as new in the box Python, a stunningly beautiful piece.
