I hope S&W are taking notes. Colt is making some beautiful, high quality, high craftsmanship revolvers and people are clamoring to buy them. No weird locks. No sleeved barrels.

His modesty just makes me more jealous. Were he a jerk at least I could have the satisfaction of dissing him on lack of personality😂. The first video I watched, he was dusting clays like a grandpa sitting on the porch swatting flies. Never seen another shooter make excellence look so easy.

The only Colt wheel gun I've ever fired was an old SAA. I liked it, especially because the only ammo we had was black powder and lead. It's hard to beat a nice DA revolver though. Thanks for another fine one, Buff.

The King Corbra design was also chambered in 44 Remington Magnum hence it’s bigger. COLT 44 mag Anaconda, the King Corba 357 was similar to an N frame Simth & Wesson 357. The Mark III Colt Trooper was a frame idesigned to last from constant use of 357 magnum loads. This revolver porvided a stronger frame for the 357 magnum as well, without a full barrel lug.🐃🙂

I'm thinking the Colt King Cobra is more in the S&W "L" frame class. I don't know about the Colt Cobra model. Maybe the Colt Cobra is more of a S&W "K" frame. Similar to a S&W-19. Always thought the Colt Python was in the S&W "L" class. The Colt Anaconda is definitely in the S&W "N" frame class. The Colt Anaconda is very similar to the S&W-29 and the S&W-629. All shooting the .44-magnum cartridge. The Colt Diamondback would be in the S&W "K" frame class. No Colt revolvers are in the S&W "J" frame class. Never saw a 5 shot Colt cylinder. There is a S&W "X" frame that no Colt currently fits. X frames are the S&W-500 and S&W-460. Those two are just too big for me. I compared a S&W-586 to a Colt Python and the two revolvers are very much the same size. Not exactly but very close. One noticable thing is both have a full underlug for the ejector rod.
Watched a Wilson Combat video that everything is great about the Python. Except the adjustable rear sight. Wilson Combat invented a much improved rear sight. The rear sight problem may be something only related to the Python. All S&W adjustable rear sights are completely different when compared to Colt's adjustable rear sights. Wilson Combat said the adjustment screws keep backing off.

I’ve looked at the new ones. Don’t like them, they look and feel cheap. My LGS had a blem Python that was marked down several hundred off. No visible blem. I just couldn’t do it. A nice 686 just looked and felt better.

A while back, I decided to look at the new Python, and in the process, I ran across the new King Cobra Target, only with the rubber grips. Decided the price difference for the King Cobra made it more appealing, so I picked it up. Great revolver, so far. You are right about the short stroke on the trigger. Have done that a couple of times myself. Glad to see you showing one off, and seeing the difference between the new and old.

Always wanted one of the old KCs much more than a Python as I thought they looked as good but with a more durable action. Never could find an affordable deal on one though.
I like the look of the old KC better, but that new model is still very nice looking and a handier size. Seems like the new KC is more the frame size of the old Colt Diamond Back which was basically a baby Python in .38Spc and a rare few were made in .22LR as well.
Anyway, thanks for another great video.

Nice! Wish I could pull my old 4” Diamondback .38 out of the safe and lay it next to that new King Cobra. Must be similar frame size. Colt plays name games. They currently sell a “Cobra” snubby that is all steel. In my book, that’s a Detective Special; Cobra and Agent have alloy frames.

Ever since I was a kid and they introduced the King Cobra I wanted one. Even more than the Python. I always thought it looked better (something about the end of the under-lug being swept back got me). And, from what I read, it was supposed to be more “durable” to hard usage and heavy loads.
Well, Colt quit making them before I had the money or legal age to get one. Fast forward to about 2005/6 and a buddy told me about seeing one in a local shop. They said they picked it up as part of an estate sale.
What they didn’t tell me, but I quickly realized, was that it had never been fired after leaving Colt. (Selling guns wasn’t their primary business and I don’t think they realized it).
It came home with me. Not a mark on it, not a hint of black rings around the cylinder end. All the paperwork. All the tags still attached, plastic “I’m not loaded” insert that covered the chambers still in place.
It was my unicorn. I couldn’t bring myself to fire it either. About 6 years later I got in a pretty good bind financially. I had to let it and a ton of classic S&Ws go. It hurt, but sometimes you gotta do.
Well, I’ve had a son since then and now it still gets to me sometimes.
So, nostalgia, wistfulness, and a little regret are maybe coloring my opinion, but I’ll definitely still take the old one. I like the underlug, the trigger shape, the hammer shape, and the size better. I feel it’s probably a better overall made revolver too - but don’t really have anything to back that up.
That said, the new one still looks good, and, on its own, is probably a really nice revolver. I’m just not totally convinced it should carry the King Cobra name. Seems like it has a slightly different purpose. Leaning more toward ease of carry (especially concealed) than a beefy long term eater of heavy magnum rounds like the old one.
It has my attention, but I don’t know if it can pull me away from being on the lookout for the next S&W like the old one did.

Target designated pistols typically had the wide hammers and triggers. Smith and Wesson did the same thing. In a target pistol I lean toward the older design. The new Colt Target seems like a cut down cheaper version at the premium price. As usual, that's some fine double action shooting my friend.

I don't have much experience with Colts but it seems like the older king cobra was intended to be more of a target gun and the new one as a carry gun. I really don't like the narrow hammers and triggers that seem to be very common these days. I very much appreciate the target hammers and triggers found on the S&W 629 size guns.

  • @Resident-cb3yz
    @Resident-cb3yz ปีที่แล้ว

TH-camrs complain about cocked trigger and how it could have little less pull weight. I always see the same thing in revolver videos. On my old .357 taurus from the -90 has a spring mechanism inside the handle. You can adjust that really easily with with small pliers or something and LITERALLY ANYONE can do that and it is safe. It does not affect the gun in any other way or make it less reliable. This feature is great and on my Taurus i adjusted that so trigger in cocked position is a hair trigger. I would to trade that to any leaf spring crap or just a spring with no adjust.

Trick is staging the trigger folks. If I staged a trigger while qualifying on the police range it would have got me kicked off the range along with anyone else doing it. We could only do double taps in 2 seconds at every stage and distance, without being able to use your sights. Get caught using your sights would also get you kicked off the range, only instinctive point shooting could be used. No use of speed loaders either, you put all 50 rounds in your pants or jean pocket to reload. You were timed on your loading also, that was fun. This was circa 1990 time frame with KCMO PD.

I bought one of these. Carried it around two weeks in an appendix position. Unloaded it to polish the brass bead. The trigger broke and the hammer fell to the fire position. 3 minutes before. I would have had to change my pronouns or been killed from a femoral 357 leg wound. I sent back to factory. They fixed it. The same thing happened when I got the gun back. They finally traded me for a 1911. Not the one I wanted but of comparable value. This was going to be the end of my life 357. I always wanted a Colt. Instead it was almost my “end of life 357”. I am sure the dealer convinced Colt to fix it one more time. Then he sold it to some unsuspecting person. Colt needs to hire the right engineers to fix this. If it wasn’t for a forum like this no one would know the truth. I have read the exact same broken incident. Firing pine broken forward and trigger broken backward happening to other people. Where are the attorneys when you need them. Someone needs to make colt responsible. Before they kill someone. This forum is the only outlet

I want a new Colt, but I'm concerned I'll find out in a few years they're made by charter arms 😂

At about a third less mula it's a tempting option! And yes I'm in the same boat as you!

A target revolver from colt shouldn't absolutely not have an over 5lb single action trigger pull. Mindblowing.

Great shooting, Buffalo! I am interested in picking up a new Colt’s revolver, but haven’t decided which one yet. Thanks for sharing.

Really nice revolvers. Never had a chance to shoot a Colt. Might have to remedy that.

Bought this and the Python in 4.25 havent shot either yet, have others from Ruger, S&W & couple more, the only thing I dont like on the KC is the narrow hammer compared to the Python

Thanks for sharing. I had a 6” original King Cobra. It was a love hate relationship. Loved the King Cobra as it was, to me an affordable Python or at least as close to one as I could afford! The hate was I ordered a 4” barrel and got a 6” instead and yes I did CC it in a shoulder holster. If had been the 4” it would most likely still be with me.
Thanks for doing the side by side old to new. There are 3 new Pythons at me FFL, 2 3” and one 6” but I am thinking about looking into the King Cobra for its size, weight and reduced overall dimensions .
Keep the great content coming and God Bless!

THanks for the great comment. I do like the handy size of the new model King Cobra and it's typically about 1/3 less money than a Python so it makes it a tempting option to say the least.

Don’t normally dig Colt revolvers, but that is beautiful. I might wish for a uniformly curved trigger guard. Looks like it got hit with a hammer.
