This is a monster hire for OSU, contrary to what many people are arguing… Ole Chipper is a master at personnel groupings and shifts and motions out of a power spread offense (similar to what Urban did). He’s unquestionably going to rely on the run game to include running the QB (to keep defenses honest), while stretching the field both horizontally and vertically. Expect a lethal OSU offense next year.

You aren’t wrong. I think adding the kid from Alabama helps at Guard/Center and everyone else will be improved. They improved last year until the bowl game where they didn’t have the top two QBs from the season and switched up the OLine. I think they will be much better but could be great if they find a OT, or one of the young guys is ready to play. With the offseason additions, including a very good blocking TE, they are one OT from being almost unstoppable on offense. With the defense that’s coming back plus Downs they could be great.

Kelly HAS to make sure OSU actually HAS an offensive line that doesn't disappear when it matters. Otherwise, the QBs, the running game and the wide receivers are nothing more than shiny accessory baubles. The O-Line play in the Cotton bowl against Missou was, simply put, horrendous. Without effective O-Line play (notice I didn't say all-conference play, but effective...), this team, or any other with a mediocre O-Line, goes nowhere.

Excited that Chip left UCLA! And I disagree with you, Joel. Chip didn’t bring any success to UCLA. I think that you have some bias in favor of Chip.
I follow your TH-cam videos and I’ve seen your bias. Although, I have to admit, I like them for the most part due to the respect you have for UCLA.
However, you only talk about what Chip has done on the field on the surface. You don’t say anything about his first winning season, which were all against teams that ended the season without a winning record. None of the 8 wins came across a single team that had a winning record. You also don’t mention how in the last 3 “successful” seasons Chip had were the easiest schedules that UCLA has ever had in at least 40 years. UCLA also, for the very first time in school history, played against Division II schools under Chip, in which he barely escaped some losses in. Chip was also 5-13 against ranked teams at UCLA.
And don’t get me going off the field stuff about Chip, as you pointed it out gently about him.
I will end it by saying that I do think Chip is good with Xs and Os. I always made arguments that he would be a good OC, just not a good HC for the reasons you pointed out.

Chip Kelly did nothing to raise the profile of the Bruins while he was there. He seemed completely disinterested in generating community spirit or support.
The UCLA athletic department has been hemorrhaging $20-30 million for the last 5 years. It was in dire straits before USC helped bail them out by going to the much more lucrative BIG 10.
The Rose Bowl looks like a ghost town on game days, but the BIG 10 move should bring in a lot of snow birds to watch the visiting teams. These 2 factors should help UCLA financially, but I don’t think it will elevate the interest of the fan base. Deshaun Foster has a tough road ahead of him.

That could change in a few years when the Big money starts rolling in but even then its not great. UCLA is 3rd most desirable team in their own city for recruits to USC and Oregon. UCLA doesn't have rabid fanbase. UCLA as university administration don't really care about football. "I don't think Chip Kelly liked recruiting" is the biggest understatement ever. Chip had the lowest-rated recruiting classes in UCLA history!!! Sure NIL and the transfer portal have made it harder but recruiting has always been a fundamental part of college sports and he flat-out refused to put an ounce of effort into it. So you can defend him all you want because you're buddies and don't want to publicly bash him for having 3 winning seasons in 6 years, 1 bowl win, and wasting a historically great defense last year with one of the most anemic offenses in the country last year even though everyone's anointed him an offensive genius.
So while his offensive schemes in theory are great with the spread option, uptempo no-huddle, speed on the edges, misdirection, etc. it doesn't work quite as well when you don't invest the time in evaluating and identifying recruits that fit your system and or having people in place to do that at a high level like he did at Oregon. Sadly, as sick as it is for me to admit I'm sure he will have tons of success at OSU where he gets to strictly focus on X's and O's instead of doing what it takes to run an entire program.

The word racist has been watered down so much in the last decade or so. If he really is racist then why did so many black kids willingly play for him and former players speak highly of him?

Way to quit on your team, Chip. The gimmicky offense hasnt worked since you left Oregon. You've flopped ever since.

What rock have you been watching college football through rose colored glasses under? People have called it the coaching carousel for decades and now with NIL and the transfer portal players have less allegiance than anyone in the sport. And for the coaches that are journeymen theyve seen alot change in the landscape 9f the sport. Quit on his team? I heard he was bout to get fired so which is it? Recruiting for unclaimed hasn't been great and I do t think its chip kelly as much as its the organization on its face. I can see why everyone whos not an osu fan would get frustrated with the off-season their having. Especially if the team you root for is destined for mediocrity atleast for 24'

I mean, he can wait to be fired, or go be the OC on an offensive juggernaut. UCLA will be lucky to be above a program like Illinois in the B1G for the future to come.

2 years ago they had the number 8 ranked offense in college football. While the QB and RB were NFL backup level players it was hardly a "stacked" roster. You Chip Kelly haters are delusional.
