College football has got to get these NIL rules under control if they want to retain coaches.
Eh coaches salaries have doubled in like a 5 year span. They need to figure out how to sign and pay players legally in a way that makes sense and brings some stability
That’s a tall task my friend, because not all positions are created equal. You’re not going to convince a QB to take similar money to a long snapper.

The now former HC of Boston College is the new DC for the Packers. He mentioned how college football has changed. He can just coach in Green Bay and not deal with recruiting and NIL.
I could see coaching positions change and potentially a role added specifically for some of these new changes.

@DB-pb8zl I mean being the DC of an NFL team is a very big upgrade from being HC of a bottom of the barrel college(Boston College). B.C will be lucky to finish with 6 or 7 wins in a sub-par conference. I like their young scrambling qb that they got and I wish buddy all the success possible, but BC is a sorry ass team so for the HC to leave for the NFL is definitely a promotion

Was a great time when he coached my Ducks. NFL stints were rough, UCLA stint was forgettable, but I hope he gets to show his skill as the great innovator he was.

What Chip is NOT saying is he's relieved to be away from the BS politics of UCLA and just be a coach like most successful programs. UCLA's a program that treats itself like it's Alabama but never wins anything significant. Chip tolerated the crap to secure the bag, now he can just enjoy what he loves and actually win games.👀
College football has effectively become a junior pro league. Most teams will just run under the structure of the “head coach” playing GM and game manager, with each coordinator playing head coach of their side of the ball. Which actually makes sense at the college level their rosters are 2x the size of the NFL’s 53+16 practice squad.
D1 FBS programs get 85 scholarships plus an average of 33 walk-on’s. I bet a program like Ohio state has 50+, there’s no restriction.
What is also crazy is before Chip they had Bill OBrien signed on. Who was running the Texans, who had success as head coach of the Texans, who had major success at at PennSt...
OSU is running to win the first expanded playoff title. And they're looking to stack the deck for Day to make it happen.

UCLA is a second tier program and Chip Kelly leaving for Ohio State is a great move for him. Chip will thrive as Offensive Coordinator.
A whole new crop of coaches will have to come in and adapt to college football of today. The old guys clearly are having a hard time adjusting to the point they are retiring like Saban or taking non-HC jobs like Chip. I don’t blame them.
They just need to solve the transfer portal already. You should at least have to commit to somewhere for 2 years (unless your head coach leaves or other serious hardships). Having every player on effectively “1 year deals” in the NIL era is INSANE for HCs lol

As a UCLA fan and grad, I watched him “not like the role of head coach” for 6 years. He was hostile to the local press, didn’t recruit, failed to raise NIL money or work on donor relationships. Wish he had “realized” it before taking UCLA job and almost 40 million from the university. We are collectively relieved that he is gone. He didn’t love UCLA. Why? Who knows.

I’m an OSU fan but let’s not get ahead of ourselves….we have a brand new QB from the transfer portal that we’ve never seen play under this kind of spotlight. If he can learn the playbook, build chemistry with the wide receivers, and handle to pressures that come with being the QB at Ohio State it should be a pretty exciting season.
That’s an interesting way to say… I want to win a National Championship so I’m going to go to the team with the best chance.

Not having to deal with things you don't want to is always a good thing, especially now that college coaches really don't have an off season, like Professional NFL coaches do
