  • Carlos Sainz is in no mans landed with limited opportunities left open for him for a 2025 seat. He'll be going backwards down the order, and thus his role will shift in the sport.

    The Perez contract extension makes no sense other than to make sure Max stays. Either Max was seriously thinking about leaving, or he had threatened it to block Sainz from being signed. Either way, Sainz got screwed.

      @judithteejiaen หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Red Bull just does not want to give max too much tension and competition as Carlos is good enough to give max pressure. And ig they just want to stick to whats safe instead of whats best.

      Some others pointed out that Perez brings in a lot of sponsor money, much more so than Sainz would. One other thing I do wonder about is what happened during Sainz' talks with Red Bull. I have my doubts that Max cares much about who's his teammate tbh, I would moreso imagine it's either Sainz having outrageous contract demands, or being a victim of the power struggle between Horner and Marko.

    I think Carlos is the most professional driver in f1. He complains on the radio but he’s is smart as hell and every team he goes to gets better.

    Sauber actually builds the whole car themselves unlike haas, RB, williams who buy a lot from top teams, wich helps a lot in their potential when audi finnishes their personel changes

    • @thomasvrielink299
      @thomasvrielink299 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes they build it themselves, but that also means they're entirely to blame for their car being by far the worst on the grid in 2024. That combined with Audi being a new engine manufacturer doesn't give me much hope for 2026. Sainz would probably do better by going to Williams for a few years and reconsidering his options during the next driver merry-go-round, by which time he'll know where Audi stand and what direction they're going in instead of having to rely on blind faith at the moment.

    It's a shame that Carlos Sainz Jr can't find a drive for 2025, I'd rather see him win at Le Mans or Indy 500 than be stuck fighting for P9/P10 in a Haas

    RB chose Perez due to them not wanting a repeat of Webber and Vettel. And Perez brings alot of sponsorship money. And they might not care about the constructors as the drivers championship is wot everyone remembers. Everyone knows Max won 2021 title but who remembers that Mercedes won the constructors? So from that sense they dont care about Perez situation. But i think his current contract will be his last with RB.

    You’re undervaluing Alex Albon as the lead driver at Williams. Hard to imagine Sainz upending that from out of the gate.

    • @BehindTheDriveOfficial
      @BehindTheDriveOfficial  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This is potentially true, could be a really interesting driver pairing. Would perhaps even be one of the best on the grid, and a sign of Williams' long term intentions!

    • @davestagner
      @davestagner หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can’t see it either. It could turn into co-driving between equals (even if one is “lead”), which is what Ferrari has been for him. But if he wants to be undisputed team lead, Sauber/Audi is a much better option. I think that would be great… he is really good at making the right calls even when the pit crew gets it wrong, and he’s a very consistent driver.

    • @davestagner
      @davestagner หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BehindTheDriveOfficial While it would be one of the best driver pairings on the grid, I can’t see either of the two drivers who deserve a lead role being happy with it - and Williams has clearly committed to Albon as their lead. Beyond that, Williams’ historic role as the Mercedes driver farm team strongly suggests that they’ll get Kimi Antonelli - a clear junior role, but with great potential. And that would be much easier on cash-strapped Williams than paying for a driver of Sainz’ caliber.

    Who drives most like sainz? Albon or Hulk. It's often underestimated how important it'll be for lower teams to be able to develop a car that progresses in the same way for both drivers.

    @cyberfutur5000 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Overall a very good video, but I wouldn't be so sure about him being the "clear" lead driver at Williams, not even at Audi, really, but especially not at Williams. Sainz is good, and sometimes brilliant, but so are Hulk and Albon. At least in qualy Hulk seems to be second to none, except maybe Charles and he has the Germany bonus (tbf sainz has the papa sainz bonus) and Albon is to Williams what Charles or Max are for Ferrari and RB. If Sainz doesn't beat Albon every weekend he won't be number one. And I don't see him do that. They will probably be very close together but Albon is the face of Williams.

    If u pay any attention to what the Sauber team has been doing this season. Their attitude toward the future, their work ethic, and what they have been doing to their driver. You would understand why Carlos is so hesitant to sign with Audi Sauber even with so much promises and money.

  • @rachelkoiks

    I find it very hard to believe that Audi is gonna be immediately competitive. I’m also not listening to these engine rumors bc if Merc has this “amazing” power unit lined up, then why couldn’t they use it to convince Hamilton to stay?
    Nobody knows shit.
    Either way, Carlos is fucked. He just has to make sure whatever contract he signs allows him to leave whenever he wants.
    This is severely handicapping a top driver to the bottom for no reason other than he’s TOO good.
    Too good to be alongside Verstappen. But always the bridesmaid and never the bride.
    Sooo.. back of the grid he goes, to waste away the rest of his remaining peak performing years.
    Carlos will be in his retiring stage by the time Audi gets settled in.
    + Their leadership is also questionable.

    Sainz story is one of some wierd odditys beyond him leading to what is now... generally youd say his performance is good with some moments of excellence warranting a good driving position, maybe another reason why having an extra team would have been alright , but also that is the sport i guess

    Sainz would do a bit better, yes. He would still not make max sweat, though. Max destroyed him as a 17 year old. If anything sainz has reached the 17 year old Max. Which is an amazing spot be. That is why Max got brought up so early.

    Sainz is a highly talented driver, but not top tier. He’s relegated to no2 driver at top teams, but he’s too good not to be in F1. He is a good fit for Ferrari but Hamilton was too big to pass up.

  • @paulotcj
    @paulotcj หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I disagree on the Mercedes option. I think Sainz will sign with them.
    They need an excellent driver for that seat, and there’s no other driver around. Max will not sign with Mercedes and Antonelli is not a viable option.
    From Sainz perspective all other seats are terrible options right now, so might as well wait and see what Mercedes will do.
