    Autos can do that if the fluid is low, burnt or nasty. It causes it to loose line pressure and can't put enough pressure on the clutches in higher gears. Change fluid and hope there hasn't been to much damage. Also possible, The electrical connections were soaked and trans controller was getting false info. Either way, change your trans fluid and filter at least once but better a couple times after about 1-200miles. Don't take it to get flushed though! Change those diffs fluid too!! Have fun!

    Did water get into the trans? I know civilian jeeps (cj) to drive thru a river you need a water proof shifter, wiring harness, and distributor. The military ones came with those from factory so military can drive thru water. Obviously those are a Manuel but im sure water could cause a trans to shift funny. Could be blowing if you heated up the trans in the mud. I would recommend dropping the trans pan and see if the fluid is burnt or full of metal chips or water. Might aswell but a filter in it while your down there. Also if you replace the trans or not you should install a trans temp gauge. Auto transmissions heat up in mud and die easily.

    Mike you need to talk to Shane about extending the breather tubes for the differentials, the transfer case, and the trans before you go bogging again. You're just filling them all with water. A fluid change on all would definitely be good. If there's water in the transmission the water will cause the clutch pack materials to separate. The slipping is most likely that you got water in one of the transmission electrical plugs. They don't usually loose a gear and then magically get it back. I'd get some dielectric grease and put in the plugs, it will prevent most future problems of that nature.

  • @hollywoodguido5556
    @hollywoodguido5556 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Check the outside of the transmission for seeping and leaks. If water gets in the transmission, it will force fluid out of the vent tube. When you did the snorkel, you should have extended the vent tubes for the diffs, transfer case, transmission and even the gas tank to the highest point to avoid moisture getting in.

    My truck did the same thing. Went through some really really really deep water. Water filled through the truck. And through the trans vent, water got through and filled up the trans. The truck had all of the gears for a couple days then progressively started slipping until I didn't have any gears at all. Fluid wasn't burnt or anything. The fluid just got mixed with water and destroyed the clutches in the trans.

    That Blazer was so deep in the water, I would change all fluids and filters. Engine oil, trans fluid, 90 weight gear oil in front and rear ends, tranfer case, etc
    Take a dehumidifier, put it inside the Blazer, put all the windows up, turn on the dehumidifier on full blast, and it'll get all the liquid out of everywhere. Either hook up the hose to automatically drain, or empty the dehumidifier frequently.
    As far as the 720, you've probably lost confidence in that car. In the back of your mind, you don't want to be on fire, and not know it, at 200 mph.

    Bedlining the floor traps moisture between the liner and floor. It’ll rust the floor out, use a metal sealer not a bed liner or regular paint, it’ll look good but the floor pans will rot plum out

    On the side of the transmission there's a plug if that is not plugged in you will not get all your gears in the 700R4 so the water was probably gave it a bad connection after it dried you probably got a good connection that's why it's working now

    All transmissions have a vent on the top of the transmission so that the heat can escape and not balloon the transmission case, you probably got water in through the vent and in the transmission so a trans flush should be done as soon as possible.

    Your issue may be the 2-3 shift solenoid going bad. I believe your transmission is the 4l60e or 4l65. You can test them just by running power to them and hearing the click, you just need to pull the oil pan and it probably wouldnt be a bad idea to change the transmission fluid and filter anyways. Like the videos!

    Just like others have said, yes please flush the trans fluid. Im assuming its a 4L60E transmission. I used to own a 95 Suburban with a 7.4L and a 4L80E trans. These things are unstoppable. The 60E is just a smaller variant. What I have experienced in the past is that the electronic shift solenoid can fail.... In your case it took on to much water and probably screwed up your shift points..
    Im sure its fine, I would swap out the fluid and the solenoid is fairly cheap... Mind as well do that while your at it.
    Also.... Look into an electronic shift kit for those trans. I installed one on my 4L80E... took about 15 min, cost about $75 and MAN! WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The shift point changes will shock the hell out of you! Good Luck!

    ***MIKE, YOUR TRANS WENT INTO "LIMP MODE"...*** basically when you have some serious issues w/the trans, the trans comp will allow the trans to go into 1 & 2, so you can get to a safe location. It could have had water on the connectors at the trans or it's comp. *I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FLUSHING & CHANGING TRNS FLUID & FILTER* You might want to put "dielectric grease" inside all of your electrical connectors, it repels water to keep them dry, you can put on any electrical connector on your veh. Hope it helps!!! SORRY STEVE, IT WONT SLIP, IT'S A ELECTRICAL ISSUE, NOT A INTERNAL TRANS ISSUE(SUCH AS CLUTCHES & STEELS)

    Mike I would say that if you did not get any Water in the Transmission of your TAHOE OR BLAZER what ever you call it it will be fine you need to make sure there is no Water in the Transmission & the big reason that could have not Shifted right is there are all kinds of Electronic Connections & Sensors under that Truck I would say you got all of the Electronics WET & when you let it sit that 1 day it dried out & worked (BUT DO CHECK THE FLUID IN THE TRANSMISSION & MAKE SURE IT HAS NO WATER IN IT) that is vital if there is any sign of Water in it GET IT OUT change the Fluid right then it might not be a bad idea to get it changed anyway

  • @markmartin1051
    @markmartin1051 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What happens is the water is less dense then the transmission fluid, automatic changes gears off of pressure in the torque converter, the water takes a lot more pressure to shift then what third gear needs. So what happened is you have let the water leave a little and it is more transmission fluid then water. I would change the fluid and I think you will be ok, I did the same thing in my Jeep and a transmission fluid made it a lot better.

    As other have suggested, do a flush and filter change on the trans. Also a good idea would be to drain your diffs. I bet you likely sucked water in through the breathers or seals. I’d get a set of ether the sealed balloon accordion style breathers or a kit like ARB breathers. Yours diffs with thank you later. While your at it get some lockers for that thing. Road trip it and do some actual off-roading and rock crawling. That will truly test just how great the blazer really is.

    Mike what probably happened to the transmission is you don't have the breather valve relocated to a higher spot than the original location and water was sucked into the transmission. I guarantee if you drain the fluid it has water in it. Also never use your reverse gear in recovery situations as it's a very weak gear in transmissions and isn't meant for heavy loads.

      Cody Laird that's funny, I had a Ford before and the 5.4 triton that was in it blew a head gasket within a month of buying it. It was full of new antifreeze and oil, never had that problem with a Chevy. I had a Dodge with the 5.7 magnum and I paid just under $10k for it and within 6 months I had to replace the whole AC system and rebuild the transmission. I took it 2 master mechanics with 30+ years and they both said they are worthless vehicles. I have an 87 Blazer with a 350 and a 700r4 with over 600k, minimal rust and only issue was I had to rebuild the transmission once and typical maintenance.

  • @CraftwerksMC
    @CraftwerksMC 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    MIke, can't recall what your yout tazer is but if it is a 1995 and later it might be a gen 1 4l60E and not a 700r4. That being said it will probably get hot and slip some like Steve said in the video but it also might be because water got in the transmission connection on the plug (if it is a 4l60E). You can reach up on the passenger side and see, if there is a plug harness there then it's the 4l60E and if it has the TV cable connection then it is the 700R4.

As far as the shifting issue going away, was probably just moisture in the pigtail connection where the trans and truck join together electrically on the transmission pan rail.

    When you take the carpet out you should do some sort of rubber lining on the floor to prevent any further water/mold damaging anything and you should totally seal it up and seal up all the electronics.
