I was there marshalling. British Rally Marshals Club were invited to put a marshals team together for the rally challenge. At the time lockdown was still in force so it had to be done in secret. No public access was allowed. It took two days to put the footage together for the video. I was only there for the first main day of it. It was filmed in Grizedale north in the Lake District.
A reminder to me of how much fun it is to be sideways in an Escort. I had a Mk1 and my younger brother a Mk2, both set up as rally cars. It's not about horse power, it's about how big your bollocks are pushing the car to the limits.
I was going airborne over a hump in the road and a front suspension strut punching through the bonnet on the landing. Go hard or go home. Loved the cars but can't afford them now.
It was about their differences between their times... that said I was on set for 2 days for the filming (yes thats my 6R4) and while i am not saying it isn't "real" I didn't see a stop watch once!

This was just done for ratings, nothing else. These cars all belong to private individuals and none of them are exactly cheap these days. A properly sorted Escort Rally Car can easily be north of £100k and a genuine 6R4 is £200 - £300k. More if it was owned by someone known, for example Colin McRae, whose own 6R4 was advertised for sale at £500k a couple of years ago. Top Gear usually smash up everything they drive but they'd have ended up buried in that Forest if they'd totalled any of those cars.
