Fire Emblem Character Spotlight: Takumi

Takumi (タクミ) is a major playable character from Fire Emblem Fates on the Birthright and Revelation routes and the main antagonist on the Conquest route. He is the third eldest of the Hoshidan royal siblings, Takumi is a skilled archer who commands the loyalty of Hinata and Oboro as his personal retainers. If he achieves an S support, he will bear a son named Kiragi with his spouse.
Takumi is voiced by Yuki Kaji in the Japanese version and Roger Rose in the English version.

People dislike Takumi because they don't care enough to understand him. And that's fine, not every character is made to impress people. But they don't realise he is the human of all characters. I mean, yeah he was a bit of douche to Corrin, but would you trust someone who was raised in an enemy kindgom their entire life? Honestly, if he had welcomed Corrin with open arms, it would have been so unrealistic and stupid. But hey, he eventually warms up to Corrin, that's how you get to know people.

The real problem is how he treats Azura. If his logic really was "Blood doesn't matter. I can only trust those who I know" (which is kind of... common sense), he woudn't act like an asshole with her (even more when you know the story of Azura who suffered from regular abuse in Nohr).
Instead, he treats her like a piece of shit just because she's "nohrian" and that's where his logic faints.
He doesn't trust you just because he doesn't know you. He doesn't trust you because you're now a NOHRIAN like Azura is and that makes him a racist asshole.
How he treated the avatar didn't shock me at all. But how he speaks to Azura who lived the majority of her life with him, had to FLEE from Nohr due to the abuse she suffered (wake up Takumi. She hates Nohr. Maybe more than you do) is disgusting. He's basically blaming a victim for the crimes HER abusers did.
I can easily understand he didn't like her in the first place. Azura being there reminding him the horrible murder of his father. But that was like... 10 years ago ? Coudn't he understand that she was a victim of Nohr just like everyone else ?

I actually tried Takumi as a Swordsmaster (Married him to Hana) it was interesting to say the least, he wasn't Ryoma, but then no one is Ryoma....not even "Lobster Lord himself!" LOL. Then had him try Bow Knight (via Corrin) as that will forever be my favorite class (next to the Hero)

remember when i said that Leo is Nohr's version of Luigi? Well, Takumi is Hoshido's version of Luigi.

I feel like Takumi has that 'middle child syndrome' since by the time he was born there was already an older boy for him to look up to(plus ryoma very much took after their father) but with Leo it's kind of understandable that he also ended up feeling the same since Xander was probably the only older male figure he had as a young boy that he could actually look up to.
I think you neglected to mention there is a benefit to giving Takumi the Spear Fighter Class temporarily, and that's to get the Rend Heaven Skill from the Basara class.
Was I'm the only one that find possessed takumi to be more funny then creepy. It kinda hard to be creepy out by him when his half of his dialogue is that of a angsty annoying teenager who think he has it worse then other people.

Well uh... he kinda ended up throwing himself off a wall and lost his adoptive mother, older brother (+Corrin), and saw his country being invaded... so uh... yeah, he had rough.

I love the character of Takumi since I also have middle child syndrome in that my sister is way older and better in most conceivable ways. And seeing someone with similar doubts was really, really cool and he was a fleshed our character. I’ve heard a lot of people say he’s whiny but in conquest, his adoptive brother/sister Corrin betrays their family, his older brother kills himself and he is left alone to deal with the pieces and with the weight of all his insecurities, anger, sadness, grief and protection of the rest of his family on his back while his country is invaded and people slaughtered. I don’t care what you say, that is FUCKING ROUGH. Then on birthright he has to learn to trust Corin who from his perspective has been raised by what he beleived to be the enemy intent on their distraction his whole life, still has as Ryoma says in his support conversations a massive inferiority complex, fragile emotions and the game says he has the worst nightmares out of anyone on top of the pressure of war and everything else. So yeah I adore his character that is fleshed our and has a pretty rough time overall.

Why does everyone say fates story is bad? I don't think there has been one actually good original fire emblem story that wasn't heavily cliched. Most of the stories involve an evil sorcerer trying to resurrect either an evil dragon, god etc. Or the story involves a corrupt king trying to rule or destroy the world. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is the vast majority of the fire emblem stories. My only real problem with the story is that garon and anankos didn't get as much backstory as I would have liked. Yet this is rectified by great characters and some really emotional moments. If fates had a complete dumpster fire of a story, I should not get the feels from many pivotal moments in every route. These are just my thoughts.

I personally feel that when a story doesn't follow cliches and is unique, people hate it. Yet they are also the same people who hate on cliched stories. I just don't get the world.

the only few backstory of him In the base game is in the Ancient texts (in which you HAVE TO TRANSLATE!! or ....... just go to Wikipedia xD).

If you have Takumi marry Oboro, then I highly recommend making their child a kinishi knight. The bonus for both bows and spears is super broken.

Well I married Takumi and I dont hate Oboro Oo Why would I ? She's really sweet and some of her supports are great. Plus she was very cool to use as a Spear Master if I remember correctly
Takumi A* Support Hinata, make Takumi a Swordmaster, have Takumi learn Astra.
Promote Oboro to Basara, have her learn Quixotic.
Give both these skills to Kiragi and that's all he needs.
You could also pass down Vantage from Takumi instead of Astra and also give Kiragi a Point Blank scroll. That way, he will annihilate all of the enemies in his Paralogue and get all the sweet, sweet EXP.

Mangs, you forgot to mention that Takumi can get access to Rend Heaven and Quixotic through the Basara class, which are both amazing skills and are arguably amongst the greatest in the game. Why would you bring up Seal Defense, but not these gems?
Rend Heaven adds half of the users Str or Mag to their damage (depending on whether they're using magic or physical weapons). It's a fairly ok damage boost, but its trigger rate (1.5x Skill) is considerably higher than most damage boosts. Quixotic adds 30 hit and 15% to skill trigger chances.

I learned that at the beginning it was just a meme from someone who did a Let's play of Conquest and absolutely HATED and struggled on Takumi's maps. And then... well Takumi's haters just escalated this meme to insane proportions

i kinda ran out of pairings when it came to Kaden, so i paired him with Peri and now Selkies wild nature suddenly made sense
You forgot about reclassify him to Basara to obtain Rend Heaven and back to Sniper to completely plough through the enemies with really high activation rates (Skill x 1.5)
Takumi is so precious good thing I married him especially I enjoy waking him up in his sleep by touching his hair XD. When I start playing revelation I'm going to be in a love triangle between him and Leo
Kiragi can be on par with Takumi if you give him a decent mother (you can even debate whether or not he's BETTER than Takumi)
If he can reach S rank bows, you can give him Pursuer
Pursuer is more powerful, although it doesn't have the effect of lowering the terrain movement cost and it does lower your defence, res and avoid. Also, when you initiate an attack with the Pursuer your effective speed is +5, but when the enemy initiates an attack their effective speed is +5.
For Comparison:
Fujin Yumi: 14 mt, 70% hit, 5% crit, 10% avoid, Lowers the movement cost of all traversable terrain to 1
Pursuer: 22 mt, 80% hit, 10% crit, -10% avoid, defence -5, res -3, User and enemy's ability to double +5
Also, you could always reclass him into a unit focused around enemy phase to give him a different purpose than his father
His personal skill is really useful for enemy phase, since it gives him an extra +4 speed and +8 luck just from him using the "wait" command, if Azura is his mother than this will make his avoid REALLY high
I think your best option is to wait until a point in the game where when you go to recruit him he has an offspring seal in his inventory, and make sure that at this point of the game a Kinshi Knight promote with the offspring seal will give him at least D rank lances
That way, you can reclass him to spear master without having to go through E rank hell
Personally I made Mozu Kiragi's Mother and he was basically Takumi + Fujin Yumi with ANY Bow. His Insane Luck from Mozu gave him Takumi's Crit rate, and I shouldn't have to say how broken Aptitude made him. The only real drawback for Mozu being Kiragi's mother is very unfitting Support Conversations for Mozu's character, she is a farmer not a teacher.

I don't think that Kiragi is better than Takumi.
The Fujin Yumi is just so reliable and a very good bow without a downside.
And don't forget that Takumi can use the Pursuer too.
You mention the negative effects of Pursuer like the opponent survives long enough to even attack Kiragi. Even if you don’t use Pursuer, you could give him a ton of offensive skills like Astra, slap a Crescent Blw on him and what the arrows fly.
Takumi is till better but, as he says in their support, it’s only because of Fujin Yumi.

I'm in a bit of a bind, I was trying to get Takumi to marry Azura for stats but now it seems Azura is with my avatar and I do NOT want to start over.
All I know is, as long as you don't watch the S support, you should be able to have them talk to another unit I guess.
Mangs could you explain this. I have had Takumi learn point blank without doing the dlc maps but my sister can't get him to learn it on the same game cartridge
These videos are cool. Where do you get your info? Some page about the game? Or the game itself? Actually in one of the support conversations, idk which one at the moment but its an Oboro one, It is said that after her parents were killed in Nohr she was taken to her closest relatives which happened to serve the Hoshidan royal family. When Oboro grew old enough she became Takumi's retainer along with Hinata. I have not found how Hinata becomes Takumi's retainer.

I think it's really cool that Takumi gets a unique outfit as the Swordmaster class. It's a nice nod to his original plan to follow in Ryoma's footsteps.
Ive been binge watching all your videos, as ive recently gotten back into fire emblem again. Of course, im fucking terrible at video games so the newer ones are really the only ones ive ever been able to truly sink my teeth into. Some info that Mangs didn't mention about heart Sealing Takumi...
While Seal Defense and Seal Speed (Spear Master's LV 5 skill) at first don't seem that necessary, these can be helpful if your opponent has a fast unit that is likely to one round a more defensive unit, having Takumi hit them might make the attacker slow enough to not double and then be followed up by another unit for the kill.
Basara gives Takumi Rend Heaven at Level 5, an insanely powerful skill in many circumstances. this can help Takumi go from one rounding a General to one shotting it. Quioxic (Basara's LV 15 Skill) is a double edged sword and since the only activatable skill Takumi may have is Rend Heaven (outside of Partner/Friendship Seal) it isn't as good on Takumi than it would be on someone else.
So Which Takumi English VA does a better job portraying him?
Also It makes sense. Mikoto and Sumeragi had black hair. Genetically speaking, it would be impossible for Ryoma, Hinoka and Sakura to have red hair with Mikoto's genes. So Ikona having red hair makes sense. Too bad she was never mentioned in the game, at all.
Ryoma has brown hair, Takumi has light grey hair and Corrin has literally every single hair color in existence.

I disagree by the comment of "Takumi doesn't benefit from the Spear Fighter line" because if you promote him from Spear Fighter to Basara, he will gain Rend Heaven which takes 50% from an opponents physical or magic stat and add it to the attack depending on which weapon you are using. It will truly insure that you one-shot Generals and Great Knights

Well, reclassing him isn't such a bad idea as, in the basara class, he will get rend heaven, which is perhaps one of the best proc. skills in the game.
Btw, now that you have done both Takumi and Leo, I would like to see as he, alongside the two minor brothers of the respectives families, is my favorite character in the game.
I think point blank originally was gonna exist only for enemies (like how wing shield is only available to hinoka but as an enemy) but idk they decided to add it as a obtainable skill but TBH it is OP since some bows like spy bow which is only has 3 range gets a range 1-3 instead of 1 and 3.

Takumi as a Basara does give him Rend Heaven/Quixotic, thus giving him the advantage of skill proc/higher it rate too, not to mention that Takumi can A+ rank with Ryoma for Astra/Life or Death(which Takumi makes use of) ~ *^*

Funny thing about takumi though is he is potentially a really good swordmaster with his stats, might need to get lucky with the speed growth though. Main reason is because hes immune to movement impairment terrain. Also he gets probably the best swordmaster outfit in the game.

I made Azura a Sniper and she was horrifyingly destructive.
Better than Takumi, IMO. She did need a Seraph Robe tho!
1: Fujin Yumi has to be equipped to eliminate terrain penalties, it's not like Siegfried or the Raijinto.
2: Kinshi Knight has 2 more mov than sniper, not 1.
3: Bowfaire increases damage in Fates, not strength/magic. This is important, because it means it's not added to the character's listed MT on the character screen and you have to add it yourself when calculating damage when planning attacks.
Also, it's worth mentioning that Fujin Yumi has exactly ONE benefit on a Kinshi Knight: In two levels in birthright, there are flier-slowing tornadoes you can summon, and Takumi can fly through those with ease with the Fujin Yumi.

I would change class Takumi to Basara at level 2, just to get Rend Heaven level 5, then back to archer class tree, with the insane high activation ratio that Rend Heaven has, Takumi is able to proc that shit almost everytime.
A lot of units will proc rend heaven often. I use it on a lot of my physical units (I like to take advantage of skill buying), and they will proc it very often due to it's high activation rate.
