Fire Emblem Character Spotlight: Xander
Xander (マークス Mākusu, lit. Marks) is a major playable character from Fire Emblem Fates on the Conquest and Revelation routes. The eldest of the Nohrian royal siblings, Xander is the crown prince of the country, commanding the loyalty of Laslow and Peri as his personal retainers. If Xander achieves an S support, he will bear a son named Siegbert with his spouse.
Xander is voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi in the Japanese version and David Stanbra in the English version.

It's said that Xander picked Peri because she was beautiful, but I wonder if S support conversations, or information revealed in S support conversations are universally canon because I recall in Awakening that the motivations people have for making friends with another character changes if that person chooses to S support with that character, but that S support motivation wouldn't make sense if that character was already married to someone else. (ex. S support conversation ex: "I only hung out with you because I've always loved you", but this motivation wouldn't make sense if they were already married which begs the question as to whether or not S support conversations are universally canon, meaning did Xander actually pick Peri because he thought she was beautiful, or is that motivation added retroactively only if he S supports with Peri.... is this confusing?)
Edit: To be more clear, it is common for S supports with character "X" to have the common "I've always felt this way about you" which wouldn't make sense if that person has always felt this way about multiple people.
Well a good example of showing off how someone feels about anyone (not including the obligatory "I love you" S support) would be Silas' A rank support with Camilla, as Silas states that he's in love with her and that he has been for a while. It never really states how she would respond about it unless she hits S rank with him but I felt I was able to relate with Silas every time I see that support.
Well that's strange, I just read it. That is a very atypical A support. Especially if Silas is already married at that point.
yeah it is, I don't get why he would admit his feelings like that. The only thing I could think of would be that they wanted a) for Silas to be Camilla's suitor naturally, or b) they wanted the player to feel bad for not having them get married after they have married someone else.
The only thing I can think of is that reading it he seems to be speaking in the past tense.... but it's still extremely flirty because he was suggesting that he still would like her attention. ...... that would make it awkward if you married him off to female Corrin.
I think there are some things that can accepted as universally canon in S-Supports (other than the "I did it because I love you!!"). In this case, I personally think it's okay to say that information in Marx's and Peri's s support is canon, because it's not like just because he thought she was beautiful that he wanted to marry her. (Wait... did he?)
In other cases, not so much. Xander just happens to fall under my double standard of sorts.

I love the shelter skill, especially in conquest in chapter 11. it allows Niles the opportunity to snipe the bolt naginata fliers without the risk of taking a strong hit from Hinoka. Shelter absolutely saves lives for when you attempt a risky attack barely within range of other enemy units.

You forgot to mention that his speed can be patched with a Charlotte Pair-up/Tonic.
You could could of mentioned since he starts off at level 4 if you reclass him to a great knight temporarily he can learn Luna which will be a good skill for him since he already deals a hefty amount of damage. Halfing their defense would be even more beneficial. Especially since his skill growth is already great.

the best class for Xander is lodestar (aka the marth class)
he still sorta keeps his high str and def but it gives him the speed he much needs as it give him a skill I think it's called dancing blade which sacrifices -1def but gives him +3 speed and speed taker which gives him +2 speed (Max 10) for every kill in a battle he initiates for the entire battle (after the battle it resets)
also the class is like sword master since it only wields sword (which is perfect) and allow S rank on swords and grants an extra

unlike how swordmasters grant +10 crit but still a better swordmaster.
you can get it via marth amiibo or free dlc before awakening.
so there is no excuses of not getting it and doesn't require him to get boosted by speedwings.

If you can take the time elise is pretty strong as a maid also but honestly the time and effort it takes probably only makes is worthwhile once to get the skills on future playthroughs.
I've been using her in her rev lunatic and she's a beastly tactician (tried malig knight on her, but 29 speed cap. Ew). I leveled her to match the rest of the team level online, so I could test her. She's fast af and her magic is insane. The only downside is that sometimes her hit rate is a bit shaky.

I made my Xander to a Swordmaster in my Revelations Hard Playthrough. A Swordmaster with 70% avoid and enough armor to keep anyone from damaging him.
I would love to see you cover Takumi or Ryoma next!
Xander's a great candidate for the Lodestar seal if you have one. Speedtaker and Dancing Blade help to solve his doubling problems and the class itself gives excellent bonuses to crit and hit rate on top of the S rank in swords. A+ Support with Ryoma in Revelation is also quite good since it allows Xander access to Swordfaire and Astra from Swordmaster. Both improve his damage output significantly. If you are ballsy, giving him Life or Death from Master-At-Arms can make him even more deadly at the cost of making the tiny damage he'd normally take from physical enemies a bit more noticeable. It does mean he can't take on groups of mages no matter how bulked up he is, however so watch your positioning.
As for pair up/marriage candidates, Hinoka is an excellent choice because he'll be able to pick up Darting Blow from Pegasus Knight. The pair-up bonuses also synergise nicely between the two and the Siegbert from this pairing is destined to be amazing. In Conquest however, good options include Charlotte for her huge speed and strength bonuses as a Berserker pair-up and Selena, whose Hero bonuses can help him out as well.
Xander's not quite as godlike as Ryoma just because of the fact enemies in Conquest won't engage a unit they can't deal damage to. Because Xander's defence is so overkill, he can't solo entire hordes of enemies because they're just gonna ignore him and run towards your squishies instead. He does require a little babysitting to get stronger (mainly speed and res) but his personal sword and high bases make him yet another must-use unit in "optimal" runs.
Like I said here Marx or Xander he should be Fire Emblem if's or Fire Emblem Fates's Black Knight if he wanted to that is.

That's not true, chivalry DOES work regardless of who's attacking. Don't believe me? Play chapter 1 again and notice how you do 2 more damage on your phase against him after he wounds you, and he does 2 less.

From what I've been told, Xander is a really strong Hero due to the class helping him with his low speed. I recommend using a Partner Seal with Charlotte since you're probably gonna pair him with her anyway

I keep forgetting that rescuing doesn't exist as a command any more. It's making me so tempted to just go to some skill castles and shove rescue on all of my units. I hate how they took it out; it saved me in past games more than just a few times.

Lemme tell you how great Lodestar Xander is.
Speedtaker and Dancing Blade solve all his speed problems. The extra skill also massively boosts his aegis proc rate. Sure, he's a little less tanky and has a little less strenght, but that doesn't matter when he's doubling everything and nothing can hit him.
Adding to the class ideas for Xander, I find that using him as a physically defensive Str/Skl-based wallbreaker under the Hero class works wonders online. More specifically:

Max stats:
60 HP | 34 Str | x Mag | 34 Skl | 31 Spd | 33 Lck | 31 Def (+4, 35 total) | 25 Res
As one might've guessed by now, this build aims to capitalize on Strength and Skill, which is largely why the Paladin Class, while possible, wouldn't work as well (32/35 Str/Skl caps as opposed to 31/30. The Hero also lacks a Beast weakness). Through this, the overall goal is to be able to take down the bulkiest of units geared towards even physical defense in one fell swoop, or at least weaken them so much to a point where there's no chance for continued survival. Wary Fighter is essential, as even when maxed out, Xander's Speed will only hit 31, leaving plenty of room to be hit twice by enemy units. Aggressor is the better version of Quick Draw, and given how this unit relies on being offensive at all times during your turn, it would be a waste to pass this Skill up. Not much is lost considering how bad the Dread Fighter Class is. Swordfaire is used over Trample to ensure Xander's great selling point has access to boosted damage at *all* times; being geared much towards physical defense and not having to get within a one-tile distance of your main targets is quite nice. Rend Heaven is excellent, as most units you can expect to be attacking into with Xander will be Str-based attackers and/or defenders as well. At its peak damage, Rend Heaven can usually expect to net anywhere from 15 to 19 points of extra damage that fires off 51% of the time. Certain Blow is almost necessary if hitting targets is a huge priority (as it ought to be). Without it, the best shot one has is an 80-87% or so chance with Siegfried. It could be argued how Lucky Seven would be best for wanting to hit things on opponent's turns, however, its limited time aside, it's still only half as effective as Certain Blow. Also, given the objective of Xander here and the addition of Aggressor, there's hardly any reason not to use Certain Blow.
All of the offensive Skills combined, on top of Xander's personal Skill, there's a total of +14 overall damage to be had *after* what the attack would've done without those; seeing as how the average Unit doesn't have super high Defense like this Unit is geared towards facing, most targets end up dead in a single hit *without* Rend Heaven.
"How do I get the Class and all those Skills?"
I won't lie, it may be a pain in the ass. Assuming you wanted to do this 100% on your own with no Castles, you would need Revelation. Aggressor is obtained from the Dread Fighter Class at Level 35 (which equates to Level 15 for typical advanced Classes). Again, this class is pretty bad, with a high Res stat and other stats not too far from the Master of Arms class. Don't feel bad about wanting to burn a Dread Seal just for the Skills. If in doubt, he can be reclassed back to Dread Fighter via a Heart Seal later. Aggressor isn't the sole reason for needing Revelation, however. To obtain Swordfaire, you'll want to copy your main save to another file, and on that spare file, have Xander A+ Support with Ryoma to become a Swordmaster; that class learns Swordfaire at Level 5. Next, equip Swordfaire to Xander, go to your Streetpass Team Roster Settings, and have him in one of the top three characters in the character list. At this point, he should be available to purchace in the Einherjar shop. Buy him, save, and then load the original file backup. From here, you can buy Swordfaire from the Unit Logbook. If in doubt, Trample (Malig Knight, Level 5) can be used over this Skill. You'll have to do the exact same thing to acquire Wary Fighter (General, Level 5) and Certain Blow (Sniper, Level 5), except in this case, Xander will be marrying Effie or Mozu, respectively. Unfortunately, while Rend Heaven (Basara, Level 15) is another rinse/repeat of the latter two, it involves having a Spear Fighter or Diviner FeMU so as to become a Basara. If neither of those are met, a completely fresh file will be needed saved elsewhere. Once you have all the Skills on Xander in your original save, have Xander A+ Support with I̶n̶i̶g̶o̶ Laslow and reclass into a Hero. That's the only way to obtain said Class for Xander.

lol i think i always paired xander with effie (though i've considered nyx before, i've always paired her with others). now i got siegbert quite late in revelations, where enemy units were lvl 10 promoted units. and sigbert my man, siegbert was tanking hits from them as a level 20 unpromoted. he was doing decent damage too on counterattacks. now i guess i was lucky considering his paralogue only has physical enemies but damn he was as impenetrable as both his parents.
Also, Chivalry works regardless of Xander initiating attacks or the enemy as long as the opponent is at full health.
