  • This time we are fixing the power steering pump in my Jeep Cherokee XJ. At the beginning, I thought it was a leak, low power steering fluid or air in the reservoir, but after close inspection, I did not find any of those problems. So I decided to change the power steering pump and hope for the best!
    Hope you like it! Let me know what you think....

    That is a really clean jeep. Not rusty like most jeeps here in New Hampshire

    Normal with bigger tires.. I’m running 35’s on my xj,does the same.. run Lucas power steering fluid it’s thicker and it does quite it down

      Yeah that’s what a friend told me. But it’s weird how it didn’t make that noise before with the factory power steering pump, ever after putting bigger tires. 🤔

    I think I'm having exactly the same problem. So did you get it fixed? Did I miss that somewhere in the comments or in another video?

    I got a 97 Cherokee with 31’s mine does the same thing only when I cut a super hard turn. It’s normal it’s just straining because your tires are so big.

      Caleb Leonard yeah that’s what a friend told me. Thank you man

    I've heard of a lot of XJ/ ZJ guys replacing the steering box with one from a Durango if they're running bigger rubber. Might look into that.

    • @VehicleTribe
      @VehicleTribe  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will definitely look into that! Thank you

      @@VehicleTribe oh, I forgot about another steering mod that you should look into. RESEARCH THIS BEFORE DOING IT, I AM NOT LIABLE IF YOU SCREW IT UP. You can drill out the high pressure outlet of your power steering pump to provide more pressure to your steering box. This will also help with bigger tires.

      @@anthonycook8737 i have also seen this mod! heard it works, sketchy job tho. And the durango i read into a little bit, it doesn't necessarily make it turn easier, just harder to break with bigger tires.

    I think u might have some air in there .. take the bottom line off and let it drain for a minute don’t let it run out of power steering fluid

    • @VehicleTribe
      @VehicleTribe  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did that, and the noise still there

    I know it’s a new pump and everything but it might just need some more oil. Bc when their not enough oil it makes that noise

      Jose Vera I checked the fluid level and it’s been good all the time. This is the second one I got and is still making some noise.

      Your problem is air getting into the system. Did you use Teflon tape on your threads?
