15:44 Real life clone vs movie clone
16:45 Challenges when building a clone
The Colt 723 was a compact carbine variant of the M16A2 rifle designed for special operations forces. It had a telescoping stock, a shortened 11.5 inch barrel, and could fire the same 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition as the M16. First introduced in the late 1980s, the 723 gave special ops units like Army Rangers and Delta Force an extremely portable and maneuverable weapon for urban combat and counterterrorist missions. Its small size and light weight made it ideal for operating in tight quarters.
In 1993, U.S. forces became embroiled in the Battle of Mogadishu as part of efforts to stabilize Somalia, which had been torn apart by civil war. The mission was to capture associates of a Somali warlord in the capital city. However, two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were shot down by rocket-propelled grenades and multiple ground forces, including Army Rangers, were trapped in a hostile area taking heavy fire.
During this intense 15-hour firefight, now known as the Black Hawk Down incident, two Delta Force snipers - Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart - volunteered to be inserted into the hostile area to protect the crew of one of the downed Black Hawks. Using their Colt 723 carbines, they fought their way to the crash site and protected the injured pilots until they were overwhelmed by militia forces and killed.
Sergeant First Class Gary Gordon was born in 1962 in Florida. He joined the Army in 1986 and became a combat engineer before later volunteering for the elite 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (Delta Force) counterterrorist unit in 1989. Gordon deployed multiple times to Iraq, Panama, and Somalia and received extensive special operations training. For his actions defending the downed helicopter crew in Mogadishu, Gordon was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. - บันเทิง

Who was your father?I was with B Squadron and knew everyone there.
I’m praying your dad didn’t introduce you to Staff Sergeant Stebbins. It’s a disgrace that he made it back home when good men lost their lives. At least he has hell to look forward to.
What’s cool about the National Guard is you get to larp as a 90s operator because that’s when all your gear is from 😅
Lol😅😅. Guard guy here, thats not true. Shits from the late 80s at best
Cant you use your own equipment?
@@Likexner ...Depends on alot of things. Depends on the gear and as always depends on METT-TC. Some gear yeah, no issue.Multi tools, camo compacts, personal GPS systems, knives, Oakleys, little shit like that. Sensitive items (Weapon systems, night vision, body armor) big no go...Mostly...I carried my personal sidearm during a hurricane mission...a Kimber TLE II RL if you're curious...but I was also a licensed peace officer on the civilian side of the house and my command was aware...additionally my issue M4 was equpped with my EOTech and a G33 3x and I did get some flack from a MSG on a range once but after a professional conversation we cleared it up. Keep in mind your milage may vary. Especially a E1-4 or a non combat arms unit. Or depends if your commander/1SG is a dog and pony show dickbag.
My philosophy is if personal gear increases a soldier's performance and isn't a disruption to good order and discipline...why the hell not.
Former active now guard 11b. It depends on your leadership. We can run "personal gear" if it has an nsn.. but realistically I let my guys run their own plate carrier (JPC, AVS, etc.) Rucks, rack systems, belts, lights. Very few guys in my unit do have there own NVGs but they either are LE on yhe outside or just someone who made a big boy purchase and wants to run them during drill weekends or AT. My unit like many others have a hard time with funding and issuing gear at times so we do give options to our guys, but it needs to make sense. Hope that helps

I live in Lincoln where Gary was from we have a bridge and monument for this American Hero! The statue of him in our little town is absolutely amazing!
I was gonna say the same thing lol
No sense saying it twice
Feel very fortunate to be able to go visit his statue whenever I want
I saw it back in 2018, though not in person. They had a post-card of the monument and an actual picture of MSG Gordon in the range box at Gordon Range on Fort Benning. Now Fort Moore. To be honest, I was glad to learn he had a real monument at the time. The Shugart and Gordon ranges on Benning do not do them any justice. Though my perception was probably skewed because of the Brown Rounds prowling around and smoking us. It also rained, as it does. That said, I always remember the range because we had a funny incident. Suffice it to say, one of the Privates in my platoon had to yell "BACK-BLAST CLEAR!" every time he went No. 2 in the porta-john or restroom. Unfortunately, I didn't shoot as well as MSG Gordon on the range.
Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart are true American heroes, and having a father who was in Delta Force, it gives me such an appreciation for these men, especially those from Delta.

@@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz Bruh the IRL dude in question (like the rest of CAG peeps there) carried with a full mag and an empty chamber, hammer down, it is physically impossible for those triggers to be able to be put on safe in that condition, they didn't have cassette drop in triggers that allowed the safety to be engaged hammer back/hammer forward, they were hammer back only trigger groups.
The ranger was unfamiliar with CAG's procedures and how they were permitted to keep their kit on them when on base and tried flexing his authority without understanding the situation.
@@Ihasanart that's cool, but we're talking about the movie, and in the movie the Ranger was right.
@@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz In the movie the M16A2 lowers they used for props also were physically incapable of putting the safety on with the hammer down/forward, the cleared and rendered safe prop guns had their hammers down on empty chambers and without modification could not put the safety on.
The movie accurately portrayed an encounter that happened in reality, and in both cases the Ranger was in the wrong unfamiliar with the procedures and processes involved.

The M-4 was the first Standardized M-16 carbine. All of the carbines that the DOD bought from 1964-1994 were COTS and classified as XM carbines. It's a whole Rabbit Hole that I went down researching for My build. I built a GAU-5 with 11½" barrel and 4½" XM177E2 flash hider with grenade ring. No forward assist and no brass deflector, A1 sights, 1/12 twist barrel, stoned and polished trigger and hammer milspec LPK, Essential Arm's aluminum CAR stock and a Black Nitride m-16 bcg. I wanted a classic GAU-5 with the modern finish coatings. These CAR-15's are so much fun to Run!
Sweet!
I started building my Gordy gun in 2017, based on the movie gun. Then spent the next few years rebuilding it to be closer to real life. I love that gun
I was in EMT class with a guy who was Ranger CSAR for the event. He saw the whole thing from a helicopter and it frustrated the shit out of him that he couldn't get on the deck to do work.😢
I've read the book. I've met Mike Durant in person. Love the film. But to this day, I cannot watch that scene where Shughart and Gordon are overwhelmed and killed at the crash site. Just the sheer brutality watching that fighter walk up and just empty a magazine into him at point blank range. It crushes my soul. I would positively love to own a replica of Gordon's rifle. It's a beautiful piece of history, and weaponry. Glad their legacy lives on.
Been working on mine for over a year if you want any help on a build list I can help at the end of the day it is an AR just build it one piece at a time
I tear up the moment Shughart takes that first round to the back.
LOL, old meets new. I'm STILL in love with my M16-A2 & 203 Grenada launcher.
What can I say? It's a classic.

I watched this movie when I was 16, last Monday, April 1st, I retired from the army. Never made it to Delta (of course) but had fun regardless. This movie / book and event had such an impact on me.
Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart’s names are up on the wall at the Overhang, if you’re ever in North Georgia, it’s open to the public.
I may need to go get me a little car-15 now in their honor.
I did not know them but I know a handful of guys who where there, neighbors, and friends. Their story and names still being told like the legends they are is great. Never forget these men and what ALL of them had gone through that day. Their sacrifices set the stage for future successes during GWOT.

The movie was more from a ranger standpoint - according to a Delta operator who was there. He said this in an interview with the Shawn Ryan Show.

Big fan of doing retro builds and have done quite a few over the years.
Greetings! Great vid and great points made regarding retro gear. In 1981 February, I received an AR-15/SP1 rifle for my birthday. Reason being, I was already a firearms enthusiast and at age of 15, it was clear to my family that I was going to join the military. Later, at 19 it was the Marines. The funny part of that was when I got to MCRD San Deigo, they were just phasing out the A1's and bring on the A2's. (1985, September 23). So, the retro line up of rifles currently out of PSA/H&H, is hugely appreciated by yours truly and you have run the 723 Model from H&R, I'm hoping the other models in the retro line up can hold up to my random range use, and stand the test of time.
The 723 or CAR 15 is the coolest of AR variants. Upper recievers with handles need a comeback and not the flat top pic rail with a handle attached to it. A proper handle upper.
Great video, brother. Thank you.
My cousin was on the ground, part of the QRF that went in to get them out. While at my first unit I read the book when I heard about the movie coming out. One of the guys in the book was a 1SG in another Company in my unit. I remember watching the aftermath at school for a few days.
If you read the summary of events, the actual Gothic Serpent and events that followed were more crazy than depicted in the movie. One of the few instances. I think the had to tone the move down to make it 1. more believable and 2. make it easier to follow for the viewer.
Love your vids, man, it was hilarious that I almost immediately got your reference to Eric Bana's monologue at the end of the movie while getting ready to go back out. I had to laugh out loud for real. Keep up the witty comedy man!

I always find it amazing to learn so much about the weapons I carried well after the point in which I carried them. I think if Gary were here today he would tell you it was an M4 with aimpoint and suppressor ! That is what most of us knew about our guns. We relied on awesome armorers to keep them running. The only thing we cared about was that they functioned and were accurate! This is a great educational video … thanks for sharing.
I own the real deal for CAR 15s. Mine was built by Colt back in 1968 and It has never once failed me. I have people offer to buy it every time I take it to the range. I get tired of people asking to hold it. Its been locked up since 2017 and It will stay locked up.
I'm glad I'm not the only nerd
Great weapon great video thanks Aron
Hey admin, something I found doing a retro build that you might wanna consider for better light output: old surefire E-series bodies (you can get good clones from CHYNA) share the same thread pitch as modern scout lights so you can use modern heads and caps. Vltor makes a pretty good E-series to pic rail clamp.
On my Delta 733 I've got one of these setups with a vampire head and it definitely looks the part while offering some modern conveniences.
Thinking about a modern version of this in 300 blk. That seems like the best setup for this. Low/mid range and don't have to sbr if you have pinned suppressor.
The Fallout / Grill master shirt is definitely a Vibe. I love mine & hope that you can incorporate some more pip-boy designs in future.
They didn’t use ARMS rails. The unit was having a disagreement with ARMS, they used the MGW Aimpoint branded mounts.
