People are complaining about all these fees as if hotels don't have them 🙄 I live in Canada and I was booking a hotel at niagara falls, the base price was $289/night, they had several different fees plus tax and $45 for parking daily. At checkout it was $405. I'd rather stay at an airbnb and have free parking, free laundry, help towards someone's finances directly instead of to a big company like holiday inn Ps your replies to some comments kill me 😂 people can be so rude
Thanks Pandiebear! It's true... hotels do have a LOT of fees. So glad you want to support your local economy. Sometimes people have bad days and just take it out on the nearest friendly face!
That is true. At its core Airbnb is just a marketplace, like amazon. I’m sorry that happened to you. If you’re willing to try Airbnb again, be sure to check all reviews before booking and try to keep to super hosts only. If the listing has no reviews, be sure to check the pictures carefully and only deal with host who have verified their identity.
Thank for your video and making clear. I have to clear one thing. As per Airbnb statement, Amount is 343.19, Host fee is 10.61, Cleaning fee 100, gross earning 358.8, occupancy tax 20,64. In this scenario, how host will book income in the books of account? Is cleaning fee is income for host? cleaning fee is not included in the gross income. Again, what will be the treatment of occupancy tax for host? Could you please suggest me.
Occupancy tax is based on your jurisdiction (state, country, town, etc). So I can't help you there. Cleaning fee does go to the host. The fees can vary a bit depending on the country.
I about spit out my beer when you said "support for guests..." I tried calling them once..... If you told me they just have an empty room with a fax machine in it I could not argue it. I found that yelling into a toilet you will at least get an echo so that is a preferred approach to airbnb support as far as I know.
I think we've all had our share of bad experiences when calling into Airbnb. I definitely wouldn't say customer service is their strongest asset. I love, love: "I found that yelling into a toilet you will at least get an echo" - can I steal it? lol! Thanks for all your comments! If you're not a host, I hope that you become one soon, seems you've a mind for creating amazing guest experiences.
There are many things that irk me about airbnb as a guest. One is that in the search page where they show multiple search results it will (usually) show that total for the stay. However they never add the tax. So sometimes you click on the listing and the total is as was shown, and other times it is not. This makes it impossible to compare listings without clicking on each one.
I was added on as a "host" for a friend's unit about three months ago and it's eye-rolling how confusing the fee-structure is...not to mention the taxes.
how do I know if Airb&B is paying the tax to the government or if I have to pay myself? how can I set the extra guest fee after the 2 guests are allowed?
Hi,would you think in your opinion that Airbnb is a suitable platform to host a castle? It is a very unique building,500 year old and is like stepping back in time.Cant even find a ‘castle ‘category to put the listing in.Your thoughts appreciated.
Hi! I think a castle would absolutely do well on Airbnb! I think you’d easily rise to be a top performer. In the past Airbnb has used unique homes on the platform for advertising and I bet you’d be a good candidate for that too.
@@AirbnbUncovered Hi,thank you for your reply it was most helpful. How would it be possible to bring a property like this to Airbnb’s attention for advertising as you mention. As I said this property is standalone and very unique. Thank you for your advice.
Im from europe, croatia, nothing to do with us in ANY way, i started getting US witholding tax cca 25% cost for total of reservation. I tryed to contact airbnb and no response, why im subject to that tax do you know?
Never, ever accept cash from a guest! Never. It can get your blacklisted and banned from Airbnb. Always do it through the Resolution Centre. Don't accept cheques (scam). Don't accept cash (no record of payment).
And... never ever communicate off the Airbnb messaging platform. If they text you, tell them you will respond in the app. If they phone you, always follow-up with a message in the app that summarizes the conversation. Or better... get them to summarize their request/comment/etc in the app.
Is it true that host reviews are co-mingled among multiple locations if the host has multiple locations? I stayed at a pretty lousy one that had a 4.98 score and almost 30 reviews saying it was the best airbnb they had ever seen in their life... Was more along the lines of Motel 6...
Reviews are grouped by property. So if you look at a listing, all the reviews for that listing will be shown on that listing page (and only reviews for that listing). If a host has multiple listings and you click on their host profile, the host profile will show all the reviews from all the listings (mixed together).
I just wanted to point out that the Guest Service Fee IS taxed at the local sales tax rate + occupancy tax rate. This may not have been the case when this video was made, but it is now. Edit: I am in the USA, so maybe different rules.
I do not like aiebnb charged to rental about cleaning fees and service fees so much. They charged cleaning fees and let us clean too. Service fees ???? what they did service for us?? all those money are to their extra money . When I stayed at hotel, everything included and cheaper then airbnb. And I no need to clean anything as well. When you canceled also you will loose your money too. Hotel is not. Airbnb is just sucking your money.
The service fees are charged by the Airbnb platform to cover their costs of maintaining the website and providing customer service. Hosts have no control over that. Cleaning fees cover things like: doing the laundry, changing the sheets, cleaning the kitchen (even if you didn't use it, everything gets cleaned), dusting, cleaning mirrors and windows, vacuuming, mopping floors. Essentially cleaning the entire place top to bottom for the next guest. Deep cleaning and extra cleaning, like the stove drip pans, greasy oven take a lot of extra time.
I’d either run them through the resolution center or do it via stripe or some other payment provider. If you’re not setup to accept cards, the resolution centre is your best bet because airbnb doesn’t charge fees on transactions through it. Just remember to keep a record for tax time.
I would hate running a hotel Bnb people are cringe ...all these high fees being scrutinized by every guest groveling for a rating . This is not freedom it’s serfdom . Yuk got to be a better way to make a living. . Maybe it’s just me 🙄🤔
Think it's just you! I love running my Airbnb business. Very few guests scrutinize the fees, as they're the same across the board and are expected when traveling (think of airlines and their fees).
Watch at 1.5x speed, thank me later.
Good for you.
Hahaha 😆
2.5… 😊
Thanks! Great advice!
I Always do it

Liked and subscribed. Appreciate all the info, it's super helpful.
Awesome, thank you!
With all the fees you better off staying at al 5 star hotel the cleaning fee is sometimes up to 500
If you are staying for a week in a 5 bedroom home, the cleaning fee will be high. It takes days to clean a large property after a long stay.
Did you know that Airbnb don’t EVER check up on host’s. I paid $1500 for a months stay in a SHED! I’m still working on my video.

I'm afraid that's true. I believe there is a place on the Airbnb site where you can provide feedback to them.
I’m looking to start a Airbnb in Florida
Would love any advice or tips that you have to offer thanks 🙏
There's tonnes in my videos! Best tip - put yourself in your guests' shoes and go for it!

It can be confusing!

There's a Taxes section in your Hosting Dashboard - check there.
There's a setting in your Hosting Dashboard - check there.
Do you recommend beach or mountain air bnb? I’m looking to buy soon and I’ve found really good deals on both.
That depends on many factors. Good luck!
You’re a good teacher. Thanks for making it clear.
Thanks Heather. I hope you’re still attracting some bookings.

I'm scheduled to view some places, but they are charging a brokage fee. Do you pay brokage fees for your Airbnb business?
What do you mean by brokerage fees ?
I don't see the option to put in the tax in my listing. Can you show an example of where this is?
Airbnb charges the applicable taxes for your jurisdiction.
very good video. very helpful and well explained.
Glad it was helpful!
Is there a Airbnb in Waikiki Hawaii and how many are there tell me the answer when you write back
Yes. Lots.
Excellent video 👍👌👍👍unfortunately for me it’s complicated as I’m bad with numbers 😂. Will need to study a bit more....
Hang in there! Also try to use simple numbers like 100 until you get the hang of it! Good luck.
Real good help thank you!
You're welcome!
Great video and explanation. Thank you!
Video uploaded on March 3 2020. "Things may be different in the future." Lol, if only you knew then!
Glad it was helpful!
A 48.00 a night room is 80.00 after cleaning and service. A shame.
You can always stay in a hotel.
Im from europe, croatia, nothing to do with us in ANY way, i started getting US witholding tax cca 25% cost for total of reservation. I tryed to contact airbnb and no response, why im subject to that tax do you know?
Sorry, I don't know. Contact AirBnb
Really helpful 👌🏻
So glad!
i am a new host on Airbnb and the client requested to pay cash, is it a trap or i should accept the offer?

How does the guest approve the extra charge?
They get a message

True. The video is several years old and much has changed since then.

Pet fees?is it for cleaning
Absolutely. Pets shed and that means extra cleaning.
Thanks a lot for clarifying!
Glad you found it helpful! Let me know if I can help with any other part of your hosting business.
Does Airbnb give you a tax form at the end of the year? If so what form is that?
I love your video you have a new subscriber
Thanks for subscribing! Check out this link - www.airbnb.ca/help/article/414/when-you-might-receive-a-tax-form-from-airbnb
Good stuff
Glad you enjoyed
Why not just doing $100/1.10? Easier math
You're so right! I don't know why I didn't think of that at the time 🤦♂️
Questions on providing kayaks, bicycles, fishing equip etc?

@@AirbnbUncovered thank u!
Very elaborate. Thank you🙏
You're welcome 😊
I’ll never stay at a bnb again after this!
Which is the part you don't like?
Home sharing is not for everyone.

why is this video longer than 45 seconds. the answer is 3% fee...
Nah, the 45 second videos are on TikTok. Head there if you're looking for short and sweet!
You can tell homie does only 1 take in every video. Do you even edit bruh?
I like to keep it real.
You spend too much time saying what you're going to do. Just do it.
