    This silicon on the flap is absolutely unnecessary, because the heat will vanish him in a couple of minutes. Also is good idea to use slide hammer for push out the old bush and hydraulic press to put the new one. Anyway, the video is good and you have interesting workarounds. I always support the repair of old parts instead of buying a new ones with same defect.

    Great video, you should run a service! Let people send you in their turbos, and you fix them. I know I'd pay you for this.

    It's the Bush that rattles when it wears out, not the penny valve itself, they are supposed to move

    • @DarioPerazzini
      @DarioPerazzini  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Debatable, they're supposed to move for sure but they could also easily rattle with extra wear or the right harmonics

    • @danielcollins4172
      @danielcollins4172 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I always heard that the bushing wearing out allows the flapper to go sideways or tilted making it harder and harder for the Wastegate to seal and eventually resulting in 30FF.

      @@DarioPerazzini I must say I've *never* heard of the flapper being the issue, it's always play in the bushing over time ovals out.

    I'm surprised doing all the work but keeping the turbos. How long has your turbos lasted after this? I mean like seal wise and boost wise.

    You really need to run Argon on that mig welder to get a good clean weld. Flux core wire is garbage unless absolutely necessary

    • @DarioPerazzini
      @DarioPerazzini  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting that you could tell it was flux wire from the footage...because of the bbs?

      Dario Perazzini yes sir 😉

    • @JackRR15
      @JackRR15 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a DIYer though, I doubt that flux core welding is going to be an actual issue for this. The welds look decent. Anyways the important is not the visual it's the penetration.

    Hey Dario, so after that 100% fix, how much miles have you done in your car, and if it still works, or started to rattle again? I'm just asking, cuz I bought whole set - 2 turbos with wastegates regenerated from a guy that makes turbos regenrations, it was ~ december of 2020, so 3 months ago, mechanic replaced my old turbos (which was in qutie good condition, but there was wastegate rattle.. so I decided to replace whole set with turbos, just "in case") and... I did ~1600kilometers and.. guess what.. new wastegates started to rattle hard... fckin shit.. he gave 3 years guarantee for the turbos set, however don't wanna to pay for the mount/remount turbos.. I pissed.. looks like he fcked up with the wastegate regeneration.. :/ don't know how to handle this.. I don't wannna pay for the mount work just because he did bad regenration..

    Why not weld the flapper (part that rattles) itself? Does the disk need to spin?

    • @DarioPerazzini
      @DarioPerazzini  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah apparently BMW says it needs to be able to move to seal the wastegate hole properly.

    Hmm, I have a wastegate rattle and I get the 30ff code along with a whistle sound when driving under load. Changed vacuum lines above and under the intake and next I'll change the turbo lines as well, but I gear I might have to do the turbos... could you please post some details 9n how to remove the turbos without removing the subframe? I just had the oil pan gasket done and stupid me did it address the gates

    • @DarioPerazzini
      @DarioPerazzini  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure. Downpipes off then I put a scissor stand under the right side mounting bolts of the oil pan with some thick rubber in between (there is a logical safe spot you'll see) then undid the top nut of the engine mount from above and lifted the jack until there was space between the mount and the frame so I knew the load was off, then I removed the mount. With that out I could reach everything on the turbos. You will need new mount bolts as they are stretch. Hope that helps.

  • @rocksteady5517
    @rocksteady5517 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A lot of your repairs are intresting 😅. People watching this, this is not your go to.. Please don't put silicon on your Wastegate, they move so they can seal properly.. Don't put nails in for looking the new bushings, rather tap with whatever screw you wanna screw in to lock. Or tac a locking, only tac, don't bring more heat to the metal. If your sure about your welding. Just weld the top of the bushing as he did as safety 😅.

    • @DarioPerazzini
      @DarioPerazzini  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I doubt the nail would be enough hence the tack. I wouldn't even trust a screw tbh...you don't want your bushing moving at all. The silicone was an experiment that worked, didn't stop the articulation and removed all rattle until it obviously burnt off. If I was to remove again I'd look at some kind of super thin gasket material to keep the flapper from rattling. Pretty poor design tbh.
