    See video on removing the rear wheel to perform job: • How to Change the Rear...
    Get 8% more speed out of your new 2020 HPE GTS Engine. Replace the rear ABS tone wheel with this item, no longer will you have the 75 MPH top speed limit, now will be over 81 MPH. Requires recalibration of the ASR system.
    HPE ASR SYSTEM CALIBRATION PROCEDURE 2018-later GTS
    In order to maintain the effectiveness of the ASR system following the replacement of one or both tires a calibration procedure of the system must be performed as follows on a straight flat stretch of road.
    - After the key ON, ride a short distance above 5 km/h and wait for the flashing of the ABS warning light and ASR icon to stop: the diagnostic phase of the ASR and ABS systems is finished.
    - Stop the vehicle and leave the engine running at idle speed for at least 3 seconds.
    - Turn the ASR system off by pressing the ASR button on the handlebar and check that the ASR disabling icon stays on steady.
    - Press simultaneously the right brake lever, the engine start-up button and the ASR on/off button for at least 4 seconds.
    - Then press the ASR button for at least 3 seconds. The activation process will be confirmed by the ASR icon will be slowly flashing.
    - Accelerate to a constant speed of 18 mph (30 km/h) and maintain it for at least to 10 seconds.
    - The end of the procedure will be indicated by the ASR icon turning off.
    - Once the procedure is complete, turn the ignition switch to «OFF», wait at least 30 seconds for the next key «ON». In case of failure to complete the procedure within 2 minutes the ASR icon will stay on steady and the ASR will remain off until the next key «OFF».
    - To restart the ASR, it is necessary to turn the key to «ON», and repeat the procedure until getting the positive result.

    Long story, I bought a 2019 Vespa Super Tec 300 HPE [high performance engine] for batting around. There is a "tonewheel" on the back wheel which sends a signal to the ABS and as a rev limiter for the back wheel. It also send a signal to the speedo. You can buy, from Germany, an upgraded tonewheel which allows for a higher top speed and a more accurate speedo. [Not for sale in Germany though] I took the back wheel out and tried to remove the 5 allen cap button head screws. No way could I move them. I had actually read that Vespa puts the screws in with really vicious locktite because they didnt want anyone to change the tonewheel. Well, I first rounded the internel hex, I then cut a slot with a small disc grinder and cutting wheel and tried moving the screws with an impact driver, all the while using heat as per "Robot" in the hope of getting the screws to move, nothing happened other than shearing off the heads! But, nothing scares me, I was an Engineer on Super Tankers and South African to boot. Nothing, but nothing scares us! I had to deflate the tyre so that I could clamp the back wheel into my Drill Mill and I machined the screw out and cleaned everything up with a 6mm tap, tomorrow I will go out and buy 5 more button head allan cap screw and use a more gentle locktite. We shall overcome!

    Great idea!!! But I think I found something even better for my Sei Giorni: I put the rear tire (not the rim!) to the front, and installed a bigger tire in the back. Michellin makes 140/70/12 tires which fit nicely into the rear. Same effect, but even better driving stability!

    So are the holes in the tone ring 10% larger than the stock ones proportionately to get the 10% reduction in reported speed?
    Reason I ask is I need to modify wheel speed on the front wheels on a race car I'm building, where I'm running a larger diameter rear wheel and need to "slow down" the front.

    @iggyzorro2406 ปีที่แล้ว

    I admire Robot and have bought several parts from Scooterwest (which btw has great customer service) that work great. I've also used his how to videos successfully. But a flat rear tire replacement gave me a reason to purchase and have this part installed by a reputable dealer but I found no difference in performance. I don't know if the speedo is more accurate (which is really why I purchased it-I don't intend to go anywhere near the bike's top speed except to test it) but I went on the Interstate to test the top end speed and when the speedo approached about 79 mph, the '22 300gts bucked and lost power exactly as it did with the factory installed tone ring. Maybe I'm missing something in the explanation. The indicated speed might be more accurate because several times I was on different roads where cars ahead seemed to be going at exactly the speed limit which is what my speedo was indicating.

      Haven't Dynoed it yet, but check out our previous video comparing the old GTS to the new HPE. The HPE's top speed is limited by the computer coming from the rear wheel sensor. All this part does is trick the computer and actually gives you a more accurate speed ready on your Speedo as well. Stay tuned for more updates on this...

    I did it on a euro4 HPE, no cutting out at top speed but no improvement in the actual top speed either, could not get it past 75mph, even crouched down, unless dowhill. Overall pretty disappointed with the hpe performance, especially in higher speeds, hard to believe in the 24hp, mine was broken in at almost 6000miles as well. Many large scooters pull all the way to the top, and reach 85 easily, where the HPE starts to be really sluggish around 65mph. Therefore it is also pretty unsafe at highway speeds because you cant really get out of the way. Ended up selling mine mostly for the lack of top end reserve, also quite a gas goppler, does launch pretty well but not that much better.

    I installed the ABS overdrive tone wheel on my 2020 GTS 300 hpe Notte. Prior to the mod, my scooter would reach ~85 MPH and the speed sensor would kick in and the engine would decelerate. After installing the tone wheel, the maximum speed is 79 MPH and the speed sensor never kicks in. I am guessing that the speedometer was not accurate prior to the modification, so by changing the ABS overdrive tone wheel, the speedometer is reading accurately now.

    • @VespaMotorsport
      @VespaMotorsport  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's exactly correct. This will "trick" the computer and make it so the rev limiter won't kick on so early and will give you a much more accurate speed reading. The Vespa speedos have always been notoriously optimistic. Thanks for chiming in with your experience. Thanks for watching!

      If it has the HPE motor, it will work. You will need to calibrate the ASR (watch our tire change video linked in this video). There's a detailed instruction on how to do so in the description of this video. The rest is taken care of by the computer. Thanks for watching!

    I'm in the UK with a brand new 300 super gts. Can I ask my garage to do that, is it legal (in Europe)? Is it safe? (road safe in Europe). What is the disk called and where do you get it from? You said is German right? Thanks guys. Stay save.

      You can purchase one from our website, the link is in the description of this video. We can't really comment on the legality of it, as every country/state will have different regulations. Thanks for watching!

    How about the Vespa SeiGiorni 2ºedition HPE, how can we configure the ABS without ASR?
    Thank you

      I don't think it has the same toner wheel as the other models do.

    ROBOT. How does this affect the ABS brakes. So the wheel speed is being read different for the front and back wheels? Would it make sense to do the front and rear wheels to mirror the wheel speed for ABS function?

    Does this negatively affect breaking performance/ABS at all?

    • @bushido8800
      @bushido8800 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fitting a Speedwheel may well invalidate your warranty and will have a negative effect on your ABS. Whether it’s worth it or not is up to the individual.

    And now Piaggio have apparently issued a statement to uk dealers warning them not to fit them and it voids any warranty claims

    I purchased ABS OVERDRIVE TONE TIMING WHEEL DISC REAR VESPA GTS HPE 2020-2022 ONLY (NOT GTV SEI GIORNI OR 2023/2024 GTS HPE2) and it was installed on the scooter and after that the speedometer did not work and did not read the speed. Is there a solution for this? Bike frame number ZAPMD3104N5001196

      We don't deal with Honda very often, so can't comment on that unfortunately.
