I saw Eric with Buddy Rich many times when Buddy would play. Back then Eric was really something and today he sounds better than ever. Buddy Rich knew how great he was and right now this chart Give it One really makes Buddy and Maynard dig him more than ever.
Wow! What haters. Everyone is a Maynard copy. Maynard was awesome.I would be too if I could. What's wrong with wanting to emulate others? We do it all the time.
If MF were alive he'd be the first to tell anyone that he came from a long lineage of trumpet greats before him. It's not about copying it's about aspiring to join that ethereal lineage.
@@Yoshinori76 The original vinyl not anywhere near this fast. But on tour MF Band liked to take this faster & faster. I remember each year they'd come through and it would be even faster than last year. Insane.
Scream notes? Did you even play? Nobody that could command the upper register ever used that term. He played everything that he intended. I’m sure that the octave jump that was left out was more than possible.
Nice performance! No need to copy Maynard down to the t shirts and logo, though....You can do it on your own, Eric....I know you worked with him for years and we all miss him but be classier than that....no need to copy the t shirts....they weren't that good to begin with....You, however...are STELLAR!!! Keep up the good work!!!!
Technique a 10 no doubt, but something lacks for the entire ensemble. A certain emotion, it seems to be on top of the beat, a little on the stiff side, maybe just a hair to fast gives it a mechanical feel. Driving, yes I understand, but something lacks. What do I know, i play 3rd trumpet in our concert band and don't even play out of the staff.
sweetpapajazz I think it's just too fast. It's hard to be musical with this piece at this speed. The Maynard version from the album is nice. There is another Maynard video here, where it is also too fast (IMO).
Oh my gosh!! This is absolute pure insanity and Maynard is loving it!!! God bless you all!

The alto solo is completely insane.
That sax solo has been stuck in my head for a week

He makes it look so easy
This guy kills it!!!
Wonderful- and let’s credit the great Alan Downey who wrote this piece

Bravo!
Is it just me, or is this tempo a little too fast?
Yeah
Not possible to be too fast
Maynard has definitely taken this song this fast if not faster

Weird Eric left out a few key scream notes.

maynard played this piece faster than this a few times and he made it work
They're tying to play this number too fast. If you're going to cover something, cover it don't try to race it. Great musicians no issues there.
He's no Maynard.
wtf ;)
This was done too fast.
This dude plays great but just watch him, a Maynard Ferguson copy !!
Sorry couldn't understand you with Maynard's todger in your mouth
Tempo too fast, sloppy!
muscle music....for me not what being a musician is about...you don't serve music if you want to show all you can do!
Tempo was far too fast. Sloppy playing due to it.
Not as good as Maynard...
Not as good, perhaps even better.
