Wayne's jazz playing has improved TREMENDOUSLY over the past 5-10years. I mean REALLY improved!! Sounds like a totally different player? I'm not talking about his chops or high notes boys and girls. I am talking about his SOUL! His feel, sense of melody and note selection. For my money, he has been the greatest LEAD player on the planet for a while now. It is so incredibly rare to find someone who can deliver both LEAD and Jazz. Bobby Shew is someone who can. Carl Saunders. Although I think Carl must be getting paid by the note sometimes? The cat plays a LOT of notes! Maynard could do both, although I dont think Maynard ever got the credit for his "jazz" playing that he should have. I think Wayne is playing better "jazz" than Maynard. As a 64 yr old jazz trumpeter and someone who chased it my entire life, all of the above is just my opinion. My guys were Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, Chet Baker, Conte Candoli, Miles Davis and Clifford Brown. I would have gladly never improvised another solo in my life IF I could have played LEAD TRUMPET like Bergeron. There was only one reason I didn't "make it"? I was allergic to practicing. :) Practicing 4-6 hours a day EVERY day never "took". I had FUN though. Played as much as I wanted, played a lot of great spots for a lot of really cool people. It saddens me how many kids will miss out on that kind of fun because they can't tear themselves away from their electronics long enough to learn an instrument or "being in the band is the uncoolest thing you can do today". My jazz trumpet playing days are behind me. NOW I am learning the bass so I can play some Merle Haggard, George Jones and Willie Nelson. Yeah! I just said that! :) What I DO KNOW and will leave you with. There are no shortcuts to the kind of greatness that Bergeron, Miyashiro and the afore mentioned represent. You have got to SHED and SHED and LISTEN and TRANSCRIBE and SHED and LISTEN and PLAY AND PLAY AND PLAY!!! At Bergerons level, there is no hiding. You can either PLAY or the cats next to you will instantly know! You have to love that kind of accountability!
That was tight! Drums, Bass, Piano, Brass, and Woodwinds, kicking huge butt! Awesome arrangement and recording as well! What a dynamic performance! This would be totally self indulgent but I would love to see Eric and Wayne switch horns (not mpc's) and play same arrangement again!! I think they would still get their sound, but I would love to see it anyway!
Wow, this is a fantastic song! Loved it! Thank you Eric Miyashiro for sharing this song with us all! Bravo to the Yamaha for making awesome music instruments!
Today I'm happy for can see this vídeo with Myashiro and Bergeron. In the past was employer of Yamaha Musical Brasil , I have one Yamaha Trumpet 6335 HG II which is superb, this of my photo. Great piece... Both playing yamaha's... Which R. Schilke had a hand in the development there of.... Bobby Odnell, Phil Phyillaier & I assisted Jerry Callet when he introduced the Soloist at TMEA... Jerry sent mine two weeks after TMEA. HE hand tempered the bell and adjusted lead pipe as taught by Calleccio... He send matching mp afterwards... Never looked again, never felt need too! It's a. 470...
That drummer was OUTSTANDING!!!!
Like Karen Carpenter!
Senri is absolutely unreal
Se que quienes tocan allí son unos duros, pero la baterista wuaoooooo es lo máximo y para estar allí ni hablar. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Maynard claimed that Wayne was the most musical lead player he had, years ago.

Anyone know who the drummer is? They are astounding! I so enjoy watching players visibly loving what they do.
The wonderful and amazing Senri Kawaguchi.

A great girl on drums, those boys on trumpet are the best...
This sounds like the menu for a Mario Golf for Nintendo DS or something like that
Nice 👍
