You forgot a lot of information. The ball was replaced three times in the 1900s, and due to WWII the ball stopped for a couple of years but the celebrations continued with sounds instead. The ball was replaced again in 1999-2000 for the new millenium which included crystals and strobe light effects, but this has already been implemented on the older ball some years ago. In 2008 for the 100th anniversary of the ball the ball was replaced again with LED colors but was only used once. In 2009 the ball was replaced again, with a similar design but twice the size, and the ball drop pole has been rebuilt to accommodate the new size.
