Congratulations Paul. You have saved an A from a rather dubious ending and it is now going to a good home. Old cars tug at the heartstrings so placing a value on them is close to impossible. I know a restorer that did a frame off nut and bolt restoration for a lady and the total bill was just under $50,000. The car looked beautiful and might have gotten $30,000. But it was the car her father purchased for her when she finished college around 50 years ago. Sentiment has no price. You did a wonderful job Paul and Tina. Bye the way hello from Bora Bora as I am on a large family vacation with a very long flight back to Michigan.

I've always wanted a model A coupe sports, I can remember seeing a lot of Model A FORDS, when I was young cuz I'm 81 years old now but I never had one but I kind of keep my eye open for one maybe I can find one as a decent price sometimes I sure like your TH-cam show great subject model A FORDS
Thanks Marlin!! Nice name. Sport coupes are great for hot weather, they stay cooler in the summer because the interior heat seems to radiate right out. LOUSY in the winter though. I stopped driving my sport coupe in the cold and rain when the top froze solid one time. I thought we were doomed. It is still stained from that trip to view Christmas lights.
So hears some hope for these cars I'm 14 years old and can drive, start, and work on these cars. In fact I'm the "push button starter" on my grandfathers model a, and he would say it himself he would have got a model a ford if I was not there. I'm the motor man, the drive along mechanic, and the putter upper. This model a ford was the third car I've driven and hopefully the first I drive car on the road when I get my permit. I like stock ( more fun when you have to do all the adjusting yourself and just looks better ) I can time it ( lever and when it goes out of timing ). I got a lover of these cars impressed with me multiple times with naming the brass, steel, and nickel of the model t. but one thing that is very important is I want to make part that the only way you can tell the difference between the original and the ones I make is the letters PA ( Phillips Antiques ) to tell the difference, one part I know I'm going to make is a reproduction gas tank. if you ever met a person who says "these cars don't have a future after we die" show them this message. I always wanted to do this message but always forgot to until now. I will get a picture of me in front of the car ( pearl body color, deep red fender, 1930 fordor. Hope this gives some hope to people with a's, t's ( I like them to ) and b's ( those to ) I will try to get a picture soon but until then goodbye. (PS I'm going to get the picture changed from the USS Cairo to the model a)
Being a TH-camr is stressful. I work a demanding full time engineering job, and make Model A videos on the side, to help others. I spend more money to make the videos than they earn, because it is such a niche market and topic. Thankfully, there are some VERY generous people who contribute and help cover the costs. I still put some of my own money too, but thankfully not as much as I would have to without the generous people. The hobby's gatekeepers hang out on web forums and bash me all the time. You'll have to have thick skin if you want to be a Model A TH-camr. I'm autistic, so I never have cared what people think or say about me. It just makes me laugh!
So nice to talk about costs - people think that because the radiator is from 1930 etc that part is available for $18 dollars (1930 price) and a mechanic will install for $5.00. Rebuild an engine can cost $6,000 and more ( the same as rebuilding some modern motor) Nice that you would talk honestly about the work done. As always a nice video and great information
@@ModelA sounds like you're in one of the good counties then. Unfortunately, there aren't many places, it seems, that custom mix rattle can paint anymore.
Correct. Calaveras County is the free-est county in the state. The people would fit right in with people from the free states (and there are becoming fewer).
Nice job Paul enjoy Gandoff some. I have a 1926 T Coupe with a similar story. The prior owner was going to make it a street rod, but decided that it was too nice to rod and sold it to me. Luckily I didn’t have to over pay for it, just had to trade a 1966 Chevy that I wasn’t using for the Model T.
Wish you both the best. Sandpaper you used on the initial sanding? Sand paper between coats? And any specific black? Thank you, Tina and Bob. I'm considering doing our fenders. Bless you guys.
Hey Dean!! Paint was just enamel with hardener. Not special. Sandpaper was 60, 250 on machine. Then 600 to 1000 to 2000 by hand. The fenders on passenger side that I already had in primer before filming were pro automotive primer from Jerry's Paint (now out of business). The primer on driver's side was automotive primer from the hardware store.
I will do a vacuum wiper rebuild video eventually, if the kits ever become available again. I hate it when people do "how to" videos and say "the parts needed were on my shelf for 10 years, you can't get them anymore". I'm like "Then how am I supposed to do what you did in your video??!!!"
Wow! I got to see this 27 minutes after you posted! Nice presentation of the time-pressed touchups needed before shipping. If ever I would wonder, "What would Paul do?", well, now I know. I also truly appreciate you sharing the numbers ($$$) of such a journey, Thanks for sharing the ride and also for oftentimes sharing your Christian faith along the way! (I'm sure there are some who'd disagree, but then, there's no accounting for taste...) And now, I'll jokingly join the throngs of those who just MUST tell you what you should'a done before anyone else gets a chance. "You know, when you did such-n-such, you really should'a done "this". and when you did "this" you should'a done "that". And when you used that thing-a-muh-jig????, well, you really should'a used the whatchamacallit! And I can't hesitate to say when you grabbed the whatchamahoozie, well, EVERYONE knows it really needed a goshdarnit!" Love ya Paul (and Model T). You've took me into a real appreciation of this car and hobby, even though I don't currently own one.....but I'm looking. The fun/frustrating part's been trying to decide what trim type. (Would it be dumb to want a '28 just because they have a red steering wheel? Sadly, there's not too many of them around up here in the Great White North in Ontario, CA. So, I think I've decide upon a Town Car (like there's a lot of those too, eh?) because of the back seat arm rests, curtains and it's vinyl roof treatment....ovalish instead of the pointy drop over in the rear. (let me know if I'm off my rocker on that last part....like, are they more prone to leaking should I get caught in the rain???) ) God Bless!
Thanks Wayne! A town car would be great for up there, but in your shoes, I'd go with a 30 or 31. The stainless parts will hold up better than the nickel of a 28 or 29. Also they have a tiny bit more room. Search for the video my wife did about Model A interior dimensions of the various body styles and years.
Good job on the car Paul.... Back in the Charlies Angels days I was in the minority but I was a Kate Jackson guy.... You and Model T have a good one. 🏁
Paul, when you were laying your color down on the fenders, weren’t you getting overspray on engine, chrome on the headlights, and rim and tires? Just curious. Thanks.
Thanks Paul for the series excellent as usual. 110° to hot to "take your Model-A out for a ride" its the car with Air-conditioning for the ride to the ice cream parlor. Sorry Henry
Paul, it’s really a shame about the events in Ruidoso, NM. But, I’ve told myself there will be others…My question is what or where do you get that type of primer and paint. I’ve used just cheap Walmart Paint. So, this stuff is better? I’m curious. Thanks! Oh yes, I followed your videos and installed a new headlight harness. Thanks! From here in Albuquerque, NM Poco Quartos and Southwest “A” ventures.
Hey Craig! The paint was custom mixed by Jerry's Paint in Sonora. But they folded up. Bummer. The primer came from the hardware store in Valley Springs. Just regular auto primer in a can.
I have wires for HF on the other end of the property. I gave away the tribander that used to be on the 55 ft tower. I'm kinda losing interest in HF. I just got home from doing night of night 25! I might do a video about it. Think anyone would care to watch? I'm kinda stuck having to do car stuff now, or people unsubscribe
@@ModelA Perhaps putting Night of Nights out on one of Tina's channels to keep purity of the model-a ch. It's a bit of history that I believe should be preserved.
Hi Paul, I noticed you used your cowl light arms to rest the hood sides onto. Is that something that was a design feature? Or just something you do? My 30 Coupe has hand made brackets each side in the engine bay to support the sides when open 🤔 Thanks for the great video
I live in Hawaii so I might see it. What is the brandof the enamel spray paint that you used ,and did I hear correctly that it is no longer made , if so is there an alternative. Thanks in advance. Love your channel
Hey Paul, I’ve quickly become a fan and started following after finding your channel recently. I have a 1928 Model A Tudor sedan that was my grandfathers, and the first car I ever drove. Quick question, I know swap meets are a great place to find some parts (though I don’t know of any in my area (northern Michigan)) but are there any parts suppliers that you can recommend?
Hey Victor! There are several Model A parts suppliers online. In somewhat alphabetical order- Bert's Model A Center, Bratton's, Mike's A-Fordable, Snyder's.
@@ModelA oh OK didn't know it was sold! Never to much when you have piece of mind Paul & Model T worked on it. If you all say its road ready then it is road ready! 😉
Hello Paul! I have been following you with interest for a while now. I have not yet acquire a model A but there is a 1930 Crown Victoria for sale in my neighborhood. It is an old 25 years restoration. What is a crown Victoria exactly and it is a good model to start with?
If you need a paint shaker, I'm sure I can find an old V-twin motorcycle engine. Vrrooom! I see that you are using rattle cans again. When preservation is more important than presentation, rattle cans work fine! Enjoy the aloha state. That and Alaska are the two I have never set foot in. And enjoy the respite from 100+ degree heat! Ouch! Well, time for me to get out and do some sweat equity on the wife's car. Later, Paul!
@@ModelA Well, the sweat equity is finished. Whew! 80+degrees and whew-midity! The hitch hiker side ball joint was bad and I replaced it. And reiterated to the better half that any noise from the front end is cause for concern. We are already looking forward to the MAFFI @ the Gilmore. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Thanks for the encouragement to join and to go!
Wow, I had no idea these cars were worth so much now. I was thinking I might buy one at some point, but I thought you could buy a decent driving one for around 10k. I guess that's inflation for you.

just now saw this video Paul , on this particular Model A that I have watched many videos on. Hey , ya did the best ya could in a pinch on that paint job, looked decent !!!! BUT , after completely restoring it to the last nut & bolt , having it judged several times at " MAJOR AMCA MEETS " 98 of 100 pointer, then keeping it in that condition & readiness till SPRING 2024 when I sold it, DID I MAKE MONEY ON IT ?? HELL - NO !! I PULLED TOP BUCK FOR IT AT CURRENT MARKET VALUE , but with all those years of " TLC " I would say I broke even at best !! AND WHEN I ADVERTISED IT ON ( FACEBOOK MARKET PLACE ) ALL THE ***** " WHORES " ****** SUDDENLY CAME OUT OF THE WOOD WORK, letting me know how much they would " OFFER " & HOW MUCH my 98 pointer ****** " WASN'T WORTH " ****** ????? Funny , how I payed the " WHORES " no mind , and got my number from a serious collector , and not just another " WHORE " !! FOR ALL YOU FACE BOOK MARKET PLACE ***** WHORES ***** OUT THERE , " K.M.A. " !!!!!!! PAUL , JUST ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO , KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK , AND PAY THE " WHORES " NO MIND !!!!!! THE MACK TRUCK GUY

A great conclusion on Gandalf... Thanks for sharing your adventure(s)...
Thank you for watching!
My Oakland got shipped to Oakland from New Zealand. Enjoyed the Derekisums, the car looks good Mahalon.
Thanks man!
Hi Paul sorry for cancellation of the event in Ruidoso but also sorry for the tragedy that happened to the people of a nice place.
Absolute tragedy, and loss of life.
That is going to be a pretty long journey for Gandalf the Green 1930 Ford Model A. I have a de luxe coupe as well
Paul , please let us know how the trip went and how the couple enjoyed this fabulous A.
As soon as I get info, I will pass it along
Hey Paul,im new to your channel Im up here in Saskatchewan Canada whatched about 4 of your videos...Awesome
Awesome thank you!
So hears some hope for these cars
I'm 14 years old and can drive, start, and work on these cars.
(PS I'm going to get the picture changed from the USS Cairo to the model a)
Good job, my man! You just got me as a subscriber
I was wanting to be a youtuber but not anymore to into model a's
But LOVE your videos and would never got a model a ( kinda bugged my grandfather into it ) without you.
and hate hot rods
Being a TH-camr is stressful. I work a demanding full time engineering job, and make Model A videos on the side, to help others. I spend more money to make the videos than they earn, because it is such a niche market and topic. Thankfully, there are some VERY generous people who contribute and help
cover the costs.
Car looks great in the video! I like the car a lot. Bon voyage to Gandolf.
Thanks man!
I wonder if it was hot that day? Awsome video.
Way over 100.
Thanks man
I will miss Gandalf
Maybe we will hear from him through MAFCA😊
You will for sure
Hey Paul. Yes i agree, that is a long journey for the car.
But worth it
@@ModelA Good
I'm surprised you can still get rattle cans in Commiefornia. Sad to hear that Gandolf might be going away. Maybe it'll open the door to something new.
Especially THAT paint, right?? My county still allows it, but other counties don't
@@ModelA sounds like you're in one of the good counties then. Unfortunately, there aren't many places, it seems, that custom mix rattle can paint anymore.
Correct. Calaveras County is the free-est county in the state. The people would fit right in with people from the free states (and there are becoming fewer).
@@ModelA speaking of that. I sent y'all a video on the Facebook thingy of a local gas pump.
@@mandolinman2006 I don't do facebook. Tina did a page for me but I don't even know the password.
3:16 add to your "to do list" change batteries in thermometer or weather device.
Haaa!! Good catch.
@@ModelA it reminds me of my thermometer and weather device so i watch for that.
You saved it! Yea, gives you a warm fuzzy feeling, doesn't it?
great video, Gandalf thee grey.... oops green. BTW.. nice job on the fenders!
Thanks Brother!
Thanks again for another great video Paul. You mentioned rebuilding the wiper motor, might that be a future video topic?
I will do a vacuum wiper rebuild video eventually, if the kits ever become available again. I hate it when people do "how to" videos and say "the parts needed were on my shelf for 10 years, you can't get them anymore". I'm like "Then how am I supposed to do what you did in your video??!!!"
Beautiful car , but i don't see an NMO mount on the rooftop LOL
Hhaaa!! Dang, you got me
Paul, safety glasses and a mask when sanding as well as painting.
Yes, dear
@@ModelA Just following what you usually say "Safety First!". Also wNt you to stay healthy so we can see more of your great videos. 😁
Thanks, bro. I know.
Yikes on the radiator cost! like the new engine blocks I bet a quality china radiator could make someone a buck or two.
You guys are going to post some videos of your trip, right?
Not doing so would be a crime!
I have enjoyed your Gandolph series. I think you alluded to Hawaii, I hope not to Europe or, worse, the Mid-east.
No way. American cars belong in America.
(I'm sure there are some who'd disagree, but then, there's no accounting for taste...)
And now, I'll jokingly join the throngs of those who just MUST tell you what you should'a done before anyone else gets a chance. "You know, when you did such-n-such, you really should'a done "this". and when you did "this" you should'a done "that". And when you used that thing-a-muh-jig????, well, you really should'a used the whatchamacallit! And I can't hesitate to say when you grabbed the whatchamahoozie, well, EVERYONE knows it really needed a goshdarnit!"
Love ya Paul (and Model T).
Ah, I see..!OK, answer this- Ginger or Maryanne?
Paul, when you were laying your color down on the fenders, weren’t you getting overspray on engine, chrome on the headlights, and rim and tires? Just curious. Thanks.
Surprisingly, no!
Salt air for Gandalf. I wonder if there is a way to protect against it? Gandalf was a fun part of the show. Thanks.
Henry Ford vanadium steel! It's going to be fine, I think
Paul: Gandalf would look good in West Virginia, just saying. Asking for a friend 😇🙏
Hahahhaahaaa!!
Thanks Paul for the series excellent as usual.
110° to hot to "take your Model-A out for a ride" its the car with Air-conditioning for the ride to the ice cream parlor. Sorry Henry
Dude, NOBODY is going to argue with that!
Where's the 20-meter Yagi, But FM antennas are easier to work on.
(love your "Night of Nights" telegraph operator video)
I have wires for HF on the other end of the property. I gave away the tribander that used to be on the 55 ft tower. I'm kinda losing interest in HF. I just got home from doing night of night 25! I might do a video about it. Think anyone would care to watch? I'm kinda stuck having to do car stuff now, or people unsubscribe
@@ModelA Perhaps putting Night of Nights out on one of Tina's channels to keep purity of the model-a ch. It's a bit of history that I believe should be preserved.
@@mackfisher4487 Hmmm..... Maybe that's the way to go. Thanks!
Hi Paul,
I noticed you used your cowl light arms to rest the hood sides onto. Is that something that was a design feature? Or just something you do? My 30 Coupe has hand made brackets each side in the engine bay to support the sides when open 🤔
Thanks for the great video
Hey Mike. It's something I do that if your dad sees you do it, will cause him to yell at you.
@ModelA Ha! Mines long gone I'm afraid...so im safe. I guess, if it works 😉
Mine hasn't seen this video yet, so I'm good for now.
I live in Hawaii so I might see it. What is the brandof the enamel spray paint that you used ,and did I hear correctly that it is no longer made , if so is there an alternative. Thanks in advance. Love your channel
Custom mixed enamel from Jerry's Paint. No longer in business.
You mentioned 110 or 112 degrees in the shade. What was or is the normal humidity?
I don't know. At that temp, it doesn't matter
@@ModelA I figured you all had dry heat were we have 90+ humidity or so and heat indexes of 110+
It was probably in the 30-40 range. If it gets too humid, then I don't paint.
@@ModelA I understand
Hey Paul, I’ve quickly become a fan and started following after finding your channel recently. I have a 1928 Model A Tudor sedan that was my grandfathers, and the first car I ever drove. Quick question, I know swap meets are a great place to find some parts (though I don’t know of any in my area (northern Michigan)) but are there any parts suppliers that you can recommend?
Hey Victor! There are several Model A parts suppliers online. In somewhat alphabetical order- Bert's Model A Center, Bratton's, Mike's A-Fordable, Snyder's.
@@ModelA Awesome, thank you for the information!! 🙂
I want to drive from Missouri to Nevada. How would I prep for it? And how minis the Mitchell overdrive?
Spraying a hardened paint without a resperator is crazy. I had a friend that died from spraying an enamel with harder with a dust mask.
Bummer. I had fans going
Paul. I can't find that enamel spray paint you used, can you please let me know the name of that 2 part paint?
I got it at Jerry's Paint in Sonora. Now out of business.
Where does it go after its stop in Hawaii?
That's it.
@@ModelA oh ok, I thought maybe it was going further abroad
Nope. It's staying in the USA
@@ModelA 👍🏻👍🏻
I miss hearing you say: "where safety is a top priority". I think thats what you said
Hahaaa!! Well, safety took a back seat on this one. Time deadline sat in the front seat.
I'm gonna mis Gandalf! To tell you the truth, I saw myself in the drivers seat. 😢
Awww. Thanks
Probably will sale before it returns to you!
It is a one-way trip for Gandalf
@@ModelA oh OK didn't know it was sold! Never to much when you have piece of mind Paul & Model T worked on it. If you all say its road ready then it is road ready! 😉
Hello Paul! I have been following you with interest for a while now. I have not yet acquire a model A but there is a 1930 Crown Victoria for sale in my neighborhood. It is an old 25 years restoration. What is a crown Victoria exactly and it is a good model to start with?
A "crown victoria"?? I have heard of a plain victoria but not a crown victoria Model A
What was the first 1930 model a and serial number off the line
I don't know. The early 1930 models still using some 1929 parts, like the dash panel, started rolling out in late 29.
Holy cow I thought that was the real job
You thought my real job was working on old cars? I will take that as a compliment! Thanks!
She's a beaut Clark.
Nice reference!!
Between Farrah and Phoebe,
Why can I not focus on Model A Fords right now?
Hahahaaa! Right?
Paul, any model A you work on should be worth an additional $8,500.00.
That is very kind to say. Thank you
If you need a paint shaker, I'm sure I can find an old V-twin motorcycle engine.
Who needs a paint shaker when you have a V-twin, right?? God bless you, William
@@ModelA
Well, the sweat equity is finished.
Those spray cans for color, hardner mix, are great. Used them them before!!!
Derek introduced me to them
Wow, I had no idea these cars were worth so much now. I was thinking I might buy one at some point, but I thought you could buy a decent driving one for around 10k. I guess that's inflation for you.
If you shop around, you still can. I'm an idiot and overpaid because I wanted to save this from becoming a hotrod.
Love the movie and actress references! Car looks good. TNX for all you do for the old car hobby Paul. 73 kd7cjo
Thanks, OM! 73
Dang that must’ve gave you a heart attack when you heard you had 2 days. 😕
Yep! It was like OH Fudge!!
You can tell Paul has been hanging out with Derek from Vice Grip Garage too much.
We've worked together a time or two
Why did you sell it
To fund the trip to Hawaii. I am not a wealthy man.
I hope you are paying Derrick royalties for co-opting his schtick
We still communicate now and then about how fun it was to work together. Maybe we will again!
Should have left it alone
@@marshallcrank if he'd done that, he would've had more issues. Any place worth exposed metal due to paint damage would've started rusting while in the shipping container.
Yep, what mandolin man said

Hawaii is America
just now saw this video Paul , on this particular Model A that I have watched many videos on. Hey , ya did the best ya could
in a pinch on that paint job, looked decent !!!!
And I know what ya mean " EXACTLY " on that pricing your vehicle & the "WHORES" that are out there , ( JUST TO STEAL IT & MAKE A QUICK BUCK , AT YOUR EXPENSE ) !!!
EXAMPLE ; had a 1936 Harley that I bought in December 1999 , was a decent bike from a dry mid west state .
BUT , after completely restoring it to the last nut & bolt , having it judged several times at " MAJOR AMCA MEETS " 98 of 100 pointer, then keeping it in that condition & readiness till SPRING 2024 when I sold it,
DID I MAKE MONEY ON IT ?? HELL - NO !! I PULLED TOP BUCK FOR IT AT CURRENT MARKET VALUE , but with all those years of " TLC " I would say I broke even at best !!
AND WHEN I ADVERTISED IT ON ( FACEBOOK MARKET PLACE ) ALL THE ***** " WHORES " ****** SUDDENLY CAME OUT OF THE WOOD WORK,
letting me know how much they would " OFFER " & HOW MUCH my 98 pointer ****** " WASN'T WORTH " ****** ?????
Funny , how I payed the " WHORES " no mind , and got my number from a serious collector , and not just another " WHORE " !!
FOR ALL YOU FACE BOOK MARKET PLACE ***** WHORES ***** OUT THERE , " K.M.A. " !!!!!!!
PAUL , JUST ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO , KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK , AND PAY THE " WHORES " NO MIND !!!!!!
THE MACK TRUCK GUY
You are SPOT ON about the whores!!!! Oh man, so true. KOMT! (Keep On Mack Truckin!!!)
