Motion blur, ambient occlusion, physically-based rendering, HDR lighting, high quality shadows, very consistent 60fps... This game looks amazing for a WiiU despite the variable resolution, it could look like a Ps4 game by just upgrading to 1080p. Amazing work for a 5 guys team, and amazing game.

It depends on what kind of game. If the game is a competitive shooter like uncharted or Halo multiplayer than it should be 60 fps.

Yeah, but I'm all about resolution. I've been playing at 4k now for half year and is hard to take anything lower. I agree with the multiplayer bit... in that case frame rate needs to be high to keep it competitive.
Mortien Gerrux I play in a 65" 4k.. so the difference between 1440p and 2160p is really noticeable. Very very so. Not only that, but this TV has a UHDColour technology, that increase the color range enormously when having a 4k signal.. which means, just by changing the resolution to 3840x2160 I not only get better resolution, but also higher contrast and color depth.
It all depends on the size and features of your screen.
If you playing on a 21" monitor, you probably wouldn't see much difference in anything past 1080p.
I have a Titan X, and most games can achieve 4k at 60fps just fine, but some not... and after playing in such clear image, I rather sacrifice fps than lower the resolution, losing my constrast/color depth along with the res. Besides, I am honestly ok playing at 30fps in most games, also because of the motion flow the TV has, makes 30fps look smooth enough.

There is an update abpout the resolution: UPDATE 14/12/15 5:20pm: After spending more time with the game, we wanted to clarify the issue of rendering resolution in Fast Racing Neo. While results as low as 640x720 are possible, and evident in many of our examples, it doesn't tell the whole story. The game operates at 1280x720 with a re-projection technique not completely unlike that of Killzone Shadow Fall's multiplayer mode.
Damn this game is really well optimised and designed. It's been a while since we've had a fast paced racing game on Nintendo. May have to check this one out.
Shin'en are well underrated as indie devs. I loved their Wii output too, including the original FAST racing league and Jett Rocket.

They don't sell Points Cards at all locally, let alone online anymore! The latest is only 2000 points for $195 CAD! if I was richer, I would still buy it just to get Jett Rocket, and at least one other, but in my current position, I simply can't do that!

A team of 5 people made a game that runs 60FPS on Wii U. This makes Driveclub look like a piece of shit.
Driveclub was a commercial success selling 2 million copies and it is still getting supported with new updates to this day. If I wanted to play a blurry 720p racer I'd go back to last gen. Sips on tea.
Doesn't change the fact that I have it and the frame rate sucks. Rather play Project Cars or Forza. But if you're ok with playing choppy slideshows be my guest.

What games like this and Xenoblade should be telling gamers (and unfortunately they're not understanding) is how limited hardware can draw out a lot of creativity from developers, even if it's just creativity in being resourceful (which is a valuable skill to have). Yes sacrifices had to be made but it shows us that the developers place more value in what's important.
One reason why so many less talented developers require more hardware power and higher budgets is because they lack the creativity and resourcefulness in their development abilities to create a game that looks and runs great unless they're using powerful hardware, and even then, they go nuts and place details in the most unnecessary of places (like the underside of that table you're never going to see).

The funny thing is that the stuff these people obsess over are both things that are pretty shallow and stuff that gets outdated quickly. Great game design and beautiful art style ages very slowly. The fact that many Nintendo classics (as well as Capcom, Konami, SEGA, and Square classics) are still amazing games today (and easy on the eyes) proves that.

Shinen(dev of the game) Has only made games for Nintendo consoles and one for PS4(that one sold poorly) and this game is optimized for wiiu. The team consist of 3-6 people so a port is very unlikely

A little disappointing that they didn't manage to output it at 1080p -as they promised- _(it _*_never_*_ was promised, I remembered it wrong)_, which was clearly noticable after seeing the first direct-feed gameplay! But I think the effects outdo the low resolution very well! :)

Holy crap, a pretty much 60fps Wii U game, and one that looks this incredibly beautiful!? This is amazing! I wish more games went down this route and these graphics are more than enough for me! I especially love how smooth the car models are, they look so real life-like! The jagged edges and stuff are kinda visible at times when looking really close at the screen but I’m sure the Switch version corrects this, and playing this from a TV a few feet away would totally hide this.
Amazing visuals, tons of fun, a fast pace racing game. And don't forget the fact that this game was made by 5 PEOPLE, it's undoubtedly amazing.

This game clocks in at 500MB and is only $15? Holy crap these guys are technical wizards. This shows that if a dev puts the time and effort in you can have a great looking game even on limited hardware. I haven't picked this up yet but it is definitely on my list of games to check out. Nintendo should have these guys do an F-Zero game. This is essentially a F-Zero look-a-like. Shin'en did what Slightly Mad didn't.

Todays gaming = ploughing through convoluted menus, health warnings, company logos and unskippable intros, until you actually get to briefly play at a ridiculously sluggish 25fps, before the next 1080p cutscene kicks in.

The resolution is enough for this game. When you drive with over 600MPH, you don´t see any pixels. But when you pick out different pictures, or don´t drive, the game will look shitty. But it´s not made for this. You have to drive very very fast so you can´t see the pixels. It has very stable 60FPS and the Motion Blur effect does look very well and it´s only when boosting. The effects and the texture look well.
The 640x720 still look better than most 1080p games on Wii U or older!

It's 640x720, and the horizontal (640) is doubled to 1280, making a 1280x720 (720p) image

DigitalFoundry is hands-down the most consumer friendly gaming site out there. They call a spade a spade and praise a game when it's performance is really well optimized and also call out when a game's performance is shit at release (Fallout 4, The Witcher 3, The Evil Within) or completely underwhelming and cheaply done (Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition and Dishonored: Definitive Edition). Hm... I just mentioned 3 games published by Bethesda, what a surprise

With the higher limitations of those consoles we've would've gotten that game on a 1080p 60fps experience, without any bizarre clippings and sprite spawns and disappearances.
Wipeout is said to achieve 1080p + 60fps on the PS3.
Darkstar Archangel perhaps, but if my memory serves me right, Wipeout on PS3 doesn't look this good either. I have it on my PS3, perhaps I should check it out.

A 640x720 framebuffer for all of these effects and high quality shadows at 60 FPS may be a necessary compromise. The Wii U only has 1 GB of DDR3 for games and it's slow (12 GB/s) as well, not to mention the outdated CPU/GPU.
I really hope Nintendo steps it up with the NX, if it's not at least marginally more powerful than the PS4, then what's the point? Nintendo is capable of both developing a publishing amazing software, but that's not enough. The platform needs to appeal to all gamers, with multimedia support and (relatively) powerful hardware, and along with a more traditional controller, 3rd-party support may be re-established.

Mortien Gerrux yh, cause there are engines that were made for pc. big triple a games were made on either mainframe or super. if you saw a behind the scenes video, then the engine used for the game was just that a pc built, game engine. very complex, big budget game, like what naughty dog or nintendo, valve use computers way more capable than pcs. for eg. 2012 e3 demo of watch_dogs was made on a very powerful machine. and was downgraded for even the most high end pcs at the time

Watching this makes me want a new real Wipeout game. Now I want to play this at 4K and without motion blur, would be freaking awesome. Real issue though is lack of physical copy, that's the deal breaker. Digital download only on consoles is big no no.

This was played on the lowest of three speed settings. It gets much faster on Hypersonic!
i have the 8gb wiiu and had to buy an external hdd to play most of the games, now paired with a 2TB external i went on a hunt of downloadable titles, this game is great quite enjoyable yes it looks pixelated but hey, 15usd 5guys 60fps? cant complain at all

yea i got the white version because i knew i was going to end up buy external storage, so i just saved a few bucks byt not buying the black one and going all the way with the external, now i have over 50 virtual console titles, and arround 14 digital titles and 2 physicals still have over 1TB left

The Seventh Knight one of the call of duty games on PS3 and 360 runs at 540p (yes, worse resolution than this game) upscaled to 720p to achieve 60fps (unstable).
