The fact that you guys get the message and the vibe of the song proves that it is not COMPLETELY lost on your generation... there's gotta be more kids like you out there that feel this way. (Yes, I said kids... I'm 56 and to me you're a couple of great kids). By the way, the couple in the crowd shot at the end of the video was Donny and Marie (Osmond). They had their own wholesome show back then, too.

Same age as you and yes there is help for this generation because I see more and more on here learning and liking and saying wish they grew up in our generations way of life, Waylon Jennings song Lukenbah Texas is always a good song for newbies to see how our generation was, quote: it's time to get back to the basics of love, really teaches and sends a really strong message, life was once just so full of fun, love, simple, slow paced life that connected people not separate them

okay little brother, and sister Judy, I'm 66 lol. the biggest that separates everyone in all aspects is the damned media. these songs were almost all on one station, with some country crossovers. But the 1970's is when stations started separating themselves more and more musically, by categorization and targeting audiences by their purchasing power and often consequently by their race or subculture. Divide and conquer for profit.

I worked at a hotel gift shop in Yosemite National Park during the summer while going to college back in the 80s. One day this really familiar looking woman came up to the register with some snacks. It dawned on me who she was. She was just a nice, friendly customer. As she left the shop I saw The Captain walk out with her and he was wearing that captain's hat. It apparently wasn't a stage prop - he really did wear it in real life.

Sung by the married couple Captain & Tennille, "Love Will Keep Us Together" is an affirmation that they will always be together, no matter what sweet-talking girl comes along. But to the writers, it had a different meaning.
Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield wrote the song in 1973 during their last songwriting session together. They had been working together since their high school days, and in the late '50s and early '60s were one of the most formidable songwriting teams in New York, with huge hits for Connie Francis and for Sedaka as a solo artist. Greenfield was moving to California, so to them, the song was about their close personal and professional relationship. "We both cried after we wrote it," Sedaka said.
Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille kept together for nearly 40 years. Both came from musical families and had some success before they teamed up, both professionally and romantically. They did very well as a team, but in 2014 this item was posted on their website, explaining that Toni had met with a divorce attorney:
The Captain & Tennille appeared to the public as them being the ideal model for a "rock-solid" married pair. But almost all people naturally evolve over time, & sometimes hidden feelings start to be uncovered when one may read, just a little more into (the popularized, substitute heading appearing just below), stating, for instance: "Music Has Kept Them Together."

The Captain & Tennille became hugely popular for a while and several more hits and a TV show followed. In the fade outs, you hear Toni sing “Sedaka is back” a tribute to the song writer Neil Sedaka ( a prolific song writer who had a few hits of his own). Captain and Tennille had a number of fun hits, you may want to check out a surprisingly sensual “do that to me one more time” versus their bouncier stuff.

Husband and wife group and Daryl the dragon Wilson is one of the beach boys. This is actually a Neil Sedaka song, but the Captain and Tennille made it a major hit checkout Neil's song breaking up is hard to do, he has two different versions of his song the first is kind of the 50's vibe and later he re-did it into this kind of Speakeasy bar vibe his piano playing is kind of jazzy. But the slow down pace and his vocals reminded me of the crooners of days past.

This song was HUGE in 1975!
I had it on a 45....I and my friends loved listening to it....and we thought Toni Tennille was really cute and The Captain was a great keyboard player and a super cool guy.
Unfortunately, we find out in much later years that their marriage was really mostly just one of convenience....without the high level of sincere romantic love that is suggested in the song.
However, there WAS love there...as they remained close friends, apparently, through “Captain” Daryl Dragon eventually developing Parkinson's Disease and dying in 2019.
RIP, Captain......you left an impact on this world!

Oh, and this song was written and originally recorded by great pop song writer Neal Sedaka. who didn't find much success with it, himself....but when he gave it to The Captain and Tennille, it took off....and you can hear their tribute to him in the end when they sing "Sedaka is back."

It's great you guys get and appreciate this music. People think that young people want new, modern, revelant music. That "old" music isn't cool, hip, trendy. But what people need to understand is that even people who grew up with this music is old to them. But if young people never heard or learned about it before it's new to them. I saw this time and time again in Youth Ministry/ High School Confirmation/Life Teen. Especially in the Life Teen Choir at weekly Mass. The Choir Director was not afraid of introducing older Hymns, and secular music when appriorate The choir members and the Mass attendees loved and embraced the older music.
Brad & Lex by your channel you are helping to change a younger generation. By spreading good quality music & singers.
