Love the passion for the business! Only concern I have is the wide variety and the amount of trade in you guys accept as inventory. It's your business, but even you addressed that space is an issue. Certainly don't wish any stress upon you, but you've got this! Your decision on the Skylanders (Sales Numbers) is great, because at the end of the day sales is what pays the bills.
You're going to have to cut the fat. You want to bring everything into the store and people are going to take advantage of that. You have a guy who has a booth and is bringing to you. To me that's a red flag cause it seems like he can't sell it in his place so he's dumping it on you. It's also going to cause a lot of disorder you should expand and make that the retro clothes, electronics etc if you wanna venture out to that kind of stuff. But you should leave it for the time being a strictly video game store. Or build a extra floor at the very least for that certain stuff.
My very same thought, he should just be concentrating on it being a games store. Eventually all this extra stuff like used clothes, game toys, etc. will just end up stacking up and causing clutter and chaos. Not to mention that he’s going to have a hard time selling it, I think we all want him to succeed, and so far that’s a really awesome gaming store.
Absolutely agree. I worked at a comic/vintage toys and video game store. We would buy everything resulting in stuff just sitting for YEARS. I started in 2015 and they had stuff there from 2 years before I started working there. Some was still there in 2021 when I left.
I think it’s a fine line of selling it (actually wanting it to sell) and a bit of displaying it, the retro stuff is gonna sell online and that’s where he should keep it, sure it’s cool and stuff like that but when I go into a game store 98% of the time it’s for the games, I feel it’s a lot like GameStop/think geek, with think geek folding quickly, think geek was a cool concept and as a stand alone store I loved going in there to see just that stuff, it might be a little early and idk but possibly a second place for that stuff , just because it’s retro stuff doesn’t mean it goes hand in hand with retro games
I love this channel! This is my new favorite since the $10 video game collection doesn't get as much love. I love seeing the development of the store. It would be awesome to see clips of what people are buying too!
You need to hire people to just clean test and post on ebay. Throw all the duplicate plushes on ebay so you can create a blanket listing letting them know that they wont get the one pictured. Or just start storing the expensive stuff for retirement and posting the commons cheap.
Owning and running a business can have its ups and downs, but don't get too discouraged. You've accomplished what some of us can only dream of (owning a game/retro toy store)! As some have mentioned, maybe consider the following to help you and your amazing team: -Reduce Inventory: Don't buy more new items or accept too many trade-ins until a good amount of stock is sold. Start setting some monthly/quarterly sales goals to help gauge when to buy new items/accept more trade-ins. - Set guidelines or a limit on trade-ins: It's great to see the amazing retro stuff on the channel, but too much of it at once can increase inventory which can be a bad thing in the long run if it sits on the shelf for months. Perhaps, get Riff and Ricky to buy some of that excess inventory😊. -Establish an online store: Many of your fans like me don't live near your beloved Arkansas, but I definitely would buy stuff from your store online if we could! -Don't overwork whether it's with the store or your TH-cam channels: There's always going to be some unfinished work at the end of the day, but know when to stop and go home to rest and recharge. Life is short, and there's only 24 hours in a day. Make time to care for yourself and your family. You already work so much to bring joy and nostalgia feels to your fans with your retro finds on a weekly basis, so you deserve some "Me" time.

@Jeff Hoon I appreciate the reply. I'm about the same age as Retro Rick and can relate to being stressed when life gets hectic. Losing both my parents, losing my job, getting taken advantage of by incompetent home contractors, and having a health scare are just some chaotic moments I experienced in just the last few years. Realizing the stress is there, praying, and seeking professional help to process my emotions, plus having support and care from my siblings and friends, helped me persevere through those difficult times. I'm sure things are stressful for Rick as owning a game/toy store plus keeping fresh content on both channels is definitely not an easy task. So, I posted the comment so that Rick (and others who may be feeling stressed out in life right now) can make sure to take time out of your busy days to care for yourself. Whether it's just taking a much needed vacation or seeking professional health to restore one's mental well-being is very important. It's helped me so far, so I figure to share.
Don’t stress too much man. Things will settle after some of the initial hype dies down. Plus, you’ll definitely catch a rhythm with what sells and what doesn’t.
You need a dedicated employee running your online presence, ebay, amazon, etc. You'd turn over so much more inventory by expanding your presence online.
I’d be interested to see how ricks much looser policy of what they accept for trade ins, impacts the business long term. It almost seems like it’s turning into a flea market.
I'm a local resident in the town. TBH...there's a pretty entrenched flea market not very far and in a less nice but more convenient location. It is focused on games though.
I think you are taking the right approach. Switching Skylanders ($2.95) for the Amibos (estimated $25 to $300 or more) will make more money. Taking out board games or reducing their footprint is smart. Vintage toys have a higher margin and sell better. Open up the back storeroom of your store for periodic sales to VIP customers. Have a parking lot sale. Sell spaces to other vendors who sell vintage. Are you wanting more space for things like Skylanders?
I’d imagine so… whatever the rent is, plus electricity, plus insurance, plus paying employees…. That much is just the breaking even point every month. It has to be a serious grind. Can’t help but respect your hustle for the love of classic games.
You may want to start being a bit more picky until you can get caught up, i know its hard to do when people are constantly bringing in great stuff. Great Video
The sad thing about most gamestores I've seen near me is that they end up closing. People used them like a pawn shop. A place where they can get rid of their stuff tk get some cash or get something new. The last store where I live the owner told me they just got more trade ins tham sales. People purchased with the store credit. So basically the inventory keeps growing and growing and very little sales.
I know some stores give themself a certain amount of stuff they can trade in every day or a certain dollar amount. I never understood why but now seeing how much stuff you're getting traded in might be why haha
Don’t listen to everyone. Do what you’re passionate about. Your passion has gotten you this far. I think you should start a eBay store though, because I want one of those cups!!
Ok… I’ve been owned and run several businesses. Not that I’m an expert but.. I’m curious how quickly increased Inventory levels and slowing through put will destroy cash flow Most people are screaming for online retail for this store. That’s a start. The breadth of product types we keep seeing being taken in seems like it would also put additional risk on how quickly products turn Let’s see what happens Maybe I stop taking cheap shots from the back row and just fly out to chat with this guy. Hope it works out.
Thank you for using the right price stickers. My local video game store (Nostalgic Video Games, Florence KY) uses stickers that ruin the boxes and are almost impossible to get off!
What I’ve seen for some people that own card shops and game shops they have an eBay shop too to sell items they can’t sell in person and I’ve heard it’s successful 🙌🏻
Definitely can relate to this. Especially this time of year with the holidays. But think, you are creating a community that people will cherish. You are creating an atmosphere that people have always wanted. You should be proud
Contra 4 is awesome, but definitely tough as nails, even by Contra standards. Also, the Amiibo display looks great! The vintage shirts and hats are cool, but I would be concerned that if they’re not game or pop culture related, you might have a tough time moving them at the store. But what do I know 🤷🏻♂️ Don’t burn yourself out homie, we love the content and want to see you succeed ❤️
even im stressing out just by seeing all that stuff on the floor. feel like people are going over to your store because of your trade in credit being on the high side. id say lower the credit store a bit so you can just have time to process things and don't overwhelm your workers. If resellers are getting their stuff to the dollar they should be fine taking a bit less if they don't feel like putting in the work.
Game Point's Trade-in Value has been higher than the other stores(A gamestop and game-x-change) in town. This is true. Their prices were usually on-par or better than the Game-X-Change as well.
Gotta put together a website for the store man. It would also be super helpful to put the store address in the video or channel description. You keep saying come visit or come hang out............ but where? XD
Stuff like the random non gaming shirts, McDonald's cup and MC Hammer is going to kill the store its to much and too widespread you will become a dumping ground for sellers like that. Say No
I’m not sure if accepting random clothes like that is a good idea. Especially after saying you already have no room. But I don’t own a business so more power to you.
Prehapes you need to bring in half day closer on a quiet day but still have the staff in (be it a morning or afternoon) where you just focus on sorting trade ins, rearranging the store, store tidying/cleaning, training etc
Rick this is awesome! I understand the frustration of all the trade ins however you’re going to make so much back after it all gets displayed! I wish I was near Arkansas, I’d visit often in a heartbeat
Welcome to retail.Where you get to deal with every walk of life that somehow find their way into your store.Shoplifters, customers upset they aren't getting what they want for their trade-ins, loiterers .The list goes on.All I can say is good luck, get some thick skin, stand by your policies and.. "We have such sights to show you"-Pinhead
Thats why its failing lol, hes basically accepting everything even plush toys because hes deep down a collector and most people dont want that stuff or have the same appreciation as him
I love your videos and I'm super stoked you have your own store, that's really the dream right? The one thing I don't understand is the whole McDonalds thing. I can see the items with a video game connection but mugs? Rick I appreciate your connection to the burger chain but its a video game store. Keep up the awesome content!
I really like that you go into the biz as a collector. I know someone who has thier spot in the swap meet but is struggling to make ends meet bc of how much trade in stuff they get. I would say it’s cool to get stuff for credit but if you trade stuff that no one is really looking for, then you’ll get left with the stuff that doesn’t need to be in the store. Unfortunately, the owner of the store is not in the best of health and is willing to sell the spot, with 2-3 storage unit and whatever he has in his basement storage for about at least 6 figures. Which is a tough sell even if he does give the list of customers that have layaway orders. He did ask me what I thought about it but 6 figures is a lot lol. Just some advice from someone who knows a person with a game store.
There is some great suggestions in the comments, I also think maybe you should look at either updating your CRM or really learning it so your intake is faster. If that isn't a bottle neck then maybe bring on someone just to research and price things out through the day for like 4 hrs while ya'll are working and you can catch up quick doing that.
Dude, I am SO happy for you! I know it's stressful and hard work, but that's how most of the best things in life, are. You are living a gamer's dream! Congrats on all your success. I hope to someday be out in that neck of the woods so I can check out the store. You are the living embodiment of my channel's tag line: "Keep retro gaming alive, because one day, your games...will be retro, too."
Bro one of my favorite channels is double jump video games ran by Cooper and his girlfriend Abby. He has a massive collection and the game store. He also runs a website and talks about how much business he gets for it. So that's also a thought. Not sure if you already have one. But it gives people like me up here in Wisconsin an opportunity to support you guys.
I can't wait to come check out the store this summer when i take my vacation. Your store looks amazing and I can't wait to get more n64 games to add to my collection.
Does any merchandise actually leave the store or are you just taking in and “collecting” on a large scale? payroll, rent, utilities…I’d be worried about going broke. doublejump, maybe get some advice from them….
The Tommy Jeans x Nintendo was a way for Tommy to promote their jeans and specifically their overalls and the deep pockets were showcased as fitting the hottest gaming device / Gameboy.
Yo Rick, you ever think about making the store accessible to us out of town folk? I tried searching google to see if you had an online store but nada. I only ask because I’m down to drop some money and being that there are crappy stores here around me, I end up shopping at estarland located in VA. I’m sure I’m not the only one that would like to shop at this place and support you!
There are tough decisions to be made as a store owner. You can't keep things on display that do not sell. I had this problem at one point when flipping games, you just have to give stuff up. Even if you will lose money, defragging your brain and your inventory is all part of it.
Business question: How is any game store able to stay afloat with such a high volume of trades? Doesn't this encourage fewer people to pay for product out of pocket? Seems like this would hurt profit a ton if everyone is just trading in, especially if they want cash instead of store credit. This is genuine curiosity, I have literally no clue how to run a game store, so I'm not trying to tell you what to do haha.
Typically customers do want store credit over cash, as the return is higher on store credit. It incentivizes loyalty and often the customer will spend some of their own money on top of the credit when purchasing an item.
Offer store credit to people you trust to help come in and price/process stuff. The store I worked at would do that when we were understaffed and had a lot of purchases to process.
Yoooooo I jump out of my f u c king seat seeing the Mario n Kong Mario cart remote control cars ommmggggggggggggggggggggggg this truly was amazing to witness.......like we lost millions of collectors because of covid in just life period in the last 3 years n those like me who don't ever post but have a crazy collection that would of went crazy seeing these AMAZING/JUMPING UP FOR JOY FINDS.....U R AMAZING BROTHER N THANK U FOR THESE EXPERIENCES
I wouldn't say to not do the non gaming related stuff completely, but I wouldn't prioritize that stuff as much. People aren't coming in the store as much for that stuff. It's the same reason you see so much clearance toys and stuff at GameStop.
I don't say this out of hate or anything like that, but this store is starting to feel like a jack of all trades and master of none. I think you should focus on 2-3 products max, but it's your call obviously. I'm just saying that Gamestop kind of died when they started branching away from video games and every time I go in there; I see more toys than I see video games. Not for me personally.
You need an area of the store set up for whatnot live sales. A little sound studio with windows so customers can watch. A ton of those trade in items would be perfect. Keeps the inventory moving and selling.
Maybe limit your trade-in window. Take one day of the week and say no trade-in for that day. Or have a cut off, at a certain time of the day you can no longer accept trade-in, like an hour or two before closing. Just and idea!
That was my thought. Didn’t he mention he looked at their financials before buying the store though. But even then seeing all the retro stuff he buys worries me. I hope he’s getting great deals because if a guy with a booth can’t sell the items then how will Rick sell it?
@@jngx80 I really hope he hired an attorney to help him with the purchase. My wife and I gave up tryin to buy a Hair Salon after a couple of YEARS looking. All of the sellers lie about their business. All of them hide information that may sway a buyer. And half of them will present "cooked books," which is illegal but hey, who cares? If you're making a such a major purchase based on "feels," you're in for it. My gut tells me the previous owners were hiding something as well. Remember the sellers NEVER fully disclose.
THE TMNT TV IS SO COOL! They made a lot of those TVs back in the day and probably the most expensive ones are the SpongeBob and the Shrek TVs. My future game room will have a Shrek TV in it come hell or Highwater!
Pretty soon you're going to be on the History Channel or something like that and you'll be bigger than the pawn stars. You're doing way better at the store people just bring it to you now you don't have to go hunt it down unless you want to. That's good business little brother. Right on!
I always wanted to open my own store when I retire from my day to day job in the future, only if I have more than enough to retire. I can earn a little just to get by and be happy.
Great store, is it possible to have a in store subscription to play? For example, an arcade setup for fighting games using console and hosting weekly tournament?
Alot of passionate gamers go in "owning" a gamestore without the financial or business acumen to make said store sustainable thus the store closing within a year or two!.... I hope your one of the retro stores that makes it!
If the plush have hook tags on them you could string a line (high enough no one would get hurt) and hang them from there. Or maybe put them in a new fishing net up and out of the way. You might want to hire some temp workers for the next few weeks. Even if it's just someone to run the register, and clean.
Don't you mean, owning a new game store in a soon to be full recession is tough. I mean it's probably going to be more stressful as we continue to see food prices climb even more... Good luck! I do enjoy the passion you show, just worried it may become too much down the road... 🙃
the price stickers are all about quality, the cheap ones will not peel correctly and tear/rip when you try to remove them and/or they'll leave really nasty residue behind. If you use good quality ones they'll peel off cleanly. Even modern day Gamestop stickers are easy to peel off. I think we're all still traumatize from the early 00s when EBgames/Gamestop were using those awful yellow stickers that were impossible peel off cleanly, and even if you did it would still be noticeable.

Most people are screaming for online retail for this store. That’s a start.
The breadth of product types we keep seeing being taken in seems like it would also put additional risk on how quickly products turn
Let’s see what happens
Maybe I stop taking cheap shots from the back row and just fly out to chat with this guy.
Hope it works out.
Thank you for using the right price stickers. My local video game store (Nostalgic Video Games, Florence KY) uses stickers that ruin the boxes and are almost impossible to get off!
The stickers! OMG that is awesome that you are taking that into consideration. So many places don't! Well done!
Thanks so much for calming our minds with the stickers. It really was bothering me lol
Watching this on break at a retro game store and couldn’t agree more about the trade ins
That sticky note thing is amazing! Wish they did that at our game stores
☝️☝️☝️☝️
Thanks for watching and commenting got something for you.
But what do I know 🤷🏻♂️
Don’t burn yourself out homie, we love the content and want to see you succeed ❤️
I'm from the UK cool channel! Would love to have a game shop like yours it's a dream job haha! Look forward to more content
These video are super cool and raw. They are great when I run out of stuff to watch on your main channel!
That Amiibo display is a thing of beauty, thanks for sharing all this buddy and good luck to you 👍
I like the post-it note sticky trick. I think a cheap bin near the counter would be great for impulse buying. $1 games should fly.
⤴️⤴️⤴️⤴️
Hit me up, I've got a surprise for you.
That’s so cool how the stickers come off nicely your doing the right thing on as a collector to your customers love it!!! Your doing it big nice!!
even im stressing out just by seeing all that stuff on the floor. feel like people are going over to your store because of your trade in credit being on the high side. id say lower the credit store a bit so you can just have time to process things and don't overwhelm your workers.
Say No
Love all your videos man, congratz on getting the store!
Your doing such an amazing job and then it's so amazing letting us ride along 👍
Seriously love your store updates!! I wish I was closer, California is a far drive!
I hear ya. Customers are great, but peace in the store is a must.
I’m not sure if accepting random clothes like that is a good idea. Especially after saying you already have no room. But I don’t own a business so more power to you.
Awesome!! Just ran into your channel and you have a sweet shop!
Prehapes you need to bring in half day closer on a quiet day but still have the staff in (be it a morning or afternoon) where you just focus on sorting trade ins, rearranging the store, store tidying/cleaning, training etc
Loooove your content man. Im in California but i want to come to your store one day. Love the pokemon stuff. Lol 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Rick this is awesome! I understand the frustration of all the trade ins however you’re going to make so much back after it all gets displayed! I wish I was near Arkansas, I’d visit often in a heartbeat
love the video, hope someday to come visit the store in person, keep up the good work. owning a business is a lot to handle.
Great video like always, I can't wait to have a video game store someday
Might be time for an online store division...ebay brings a much larger consumer base
You're literally turning this GameStore, into a large-scale version of your Games Room, and I freakin' love it, aha.
Thats why its failing lol, hes basically accepting everything even plush toys because hes deep down a collector and most people dont want that stuff or have the same appreciation as him
He's Turning it into an expensive flee market.
⤴️⤴️⤴️⤴️
Hit me up, I've got a surprise for you
There is some great suggestions in the comments, I also think maybe you should look at either updating your CRM or really learning it so your intake is faster. If that isn't a bottle neck then maybe bring on someone just to research and price things out through the day for like 4 hrs while ya'll are working and you can catch up quick doing that.
Thanks for sharing your adventure with us! Look forward to watching your videos!
Sounds like another bot scam to me!
You got this man look at what you accomplished with 10$ I'm proud of you.. your videos help people 🤟
Man, I can imagine that this store is indeed a lot of work. But, isn't it the greatest job in the world??? 😆😁 Love the channel.
I can't wait to come check out the store this summer when i take my vacation. Your store looks amazing and I can't wait to get more n64 games to add to my collection.
I have the Tommy Hilfiger gameboy. That I've had since I was a kid. Keep the videos coming. Always amazing.
That gameboy is so sick
"We didn't use to take these in, but we do now" needs to be a T-shirt haha
As always content is always 🔥🔥🔥. The store is looking good. Good God you have a ton of inventory. As always I appreciate the content Retro
Looks like one hell of store you've got there, wish it was near me
If you're running out of space, you might want to axe the life sized Hulk and Slimer, lol.
2:57 not gonna lie this is totally me when tightening my garden hose faucet.

Thanks for watching and commenting got something for you.
Offer store credit to people you trust to help come in and price/process stuff. The store I worked at would do that when we were understaffed and had a lot of purchases to process.
Rick, out of curiosity are you guys profitable?
Also could you have someone in your employ work solely on trade ins?
Yoooooo I jump out of my f u c king seat seeing the Mario n Kong Mario cart remote control cars ommmggggggggggggggggggggggg this truly was amazing to witness.......like we lost millions of collectors because of covid in just life period in the last 3 years n those like me who don't ever post but have a crazy collection that would of went crazy seeing these AMAZING/JUMPING UP FOR JOY FINDS.....U R AMAZING BROTHER N THANK U FOR THESE EXPERIENCES
If I might ask what’s the name of the store? I’d love to stop by and look around at all the cool stuff!
Every store: WE OPEN AT 5AM ON BLACK FRIDAY
Rick: Eff that, I'm sleeping in - our sale starts at 10am
👏 👏 👏
You need an area of the store set up for whatnot live sales. A little sound studio with windows so customers can watch. A ton of those trade in items would be perfect. Keeps the inventory moving and selling.
Maybe limit your trade-in window. Take one day of the week and say no trade-in for that day. Or have a cut off, at a certain time of the day you can no longer accept trade-in, like an hour or two before closing. Just and idea!
Retro Rick is being taken advantage of with all of these trade in's. He's going to run his store into the ground.
Agreed. Several of us see it and the previous owners knew it from 17 years of experience.
The man on your shirt is the goat of dirt late model racing

Thanks for watching and commenting got something for you.
You could because of the holidays , put all the plush on Christmas Trees all around the store
Those DK and Mario RC cars! 🔥
If the plush have hook tags on them you could string a line (high enough no one would get hurt) and hang them from there. Or maybe put them in a new fishing net up and out of the way. You might want to hire some temp workers for the next few weeks. Even if it's just someone to run the register, and clean.
Instantly knew what that yellow GameBoy was. That’s the one I had as a kid. Wish I would have kept it.
Don't you mean, owning a new game store in a soon to be full recession is tough. I mean it's probably going to be more stressful as we continue to see food prices climb even more... Good luck! I do enjoy the passion you show, just worried it may become too much down the road... 🙃
I love that sticky note idea
Someof them trade ins are unreal and hopefuly the stress will go down
the price stickers are all about quality, the cheap ones will not peel correctly and tear/rip when you try to remove them and/or they'll leave really nasty residue behind.
Store is becoming its own flea market lol. It's awesome! Wish I was closer.
Where did you get your metal drawers? Those are nice.
Dude I’ll fly over from Aussie and work for you, looks like you need the help you’re so busy! Haha
