Single most useful tutorial about learning a new tracking software, working without camera information, and some of the basic thought process behind tracking as a VFX pipeline task that I've ever seen.
Accidently stumble upon your channel and found the content are gold.. I am an animator and was looking for matchmove plates and it is hard to find. I hope the tutorials will help my work in a big way. Thanks Josh for sharing your valuable knowledge with the community ! Keep up the good work mate ! Cheers !!
I love you! Having nightmares and headache with footage that was distorted beyond imaginable - this video helped a lot. Was having minimal deviation 53 px, now its 0.28 px 🎉🎉🎉
Onto part 2. :D I hope to be a gun with 3DE and make awesome tracking footage. Thanks a million for the excellent tutorial VFX Tutors. With love from Australia
23:50 you can actually just click align to key button and it's gonna automatically snap that point. that's a lot quicker and easier than doing it manually
Hey! this is a great tutorial thanks so much for doing this :) I am kinda into tracking and I was wondering if you think its doable to track Iphone shots? I got a pretty old iphonex and doing tracking on the videos I shoot with it. The thing is that sometimes I got weird results
Hi Sir! Your video helped a lot! For me and for everyone! Can I ask, sometimes our point can't be solved? Even I picked them and force full point to calculate and set them all to active?
Curse this vertical video trend. I want to ask if we should change the sensor sizes' places when holding a camera or a recording device vertically.Thanx for all videos.
Hi there Josh, I dont suppose you could cover ImageWarp at all at some point soon at all? Warp4 doesnt seem to exist anymore and I'm at a loss at how to export the undistorted/distorted footage into Maya. (And unfortunately at my uni we dont have any slightly older versions of 3DE)
@@Wizeacre621 sure, I might go through a 3de basics thing at some point, But all you need to do is export the nukeLDnode and import that into nuke, make sure it’s set to undistort, reformat to original resolution then render the image sequence
hey, so in this tutorial we are solving as if we had no data, but we took a guestimate of the focal length then solved the film back, you should only solve width then the ratio will be automatically corrected to the footage resolution
How do I import measured field dimensions into the scene. I'm an fx artist so most simulations have to be done in real world size. Is there a way to tweak that in 3DE?
Hello Sir, I'm a beginner in matchmove and when I'm trying to track points and solve them, few points are going behind the camera. I don't understand why is happening that and how can I resolve this. Please help me with that issue to resolve🙏
you can set the samples higher as this can sometimes give better results, but usually the default is fine each lens model is for the different type of lenses you'll encounter, most of the time you'll work with Classic LD or Radial Standard as these are used for spherical lenses, which are the most commonly used lenses. Fisheye is for fisheye lenses, I rarely use this as filming with fisheye lenses causes a lot of problems and doesn't look nice. Anamorphic is or anamorphic lenses, these are very different to spherical lenses as tey have an eclipse shape glass to squeeze the image, this allows for a wider aspect ratio. anamorphic is notoriously difficult to work with for 3de gives you a few distortion models to help with solving anamorphic properties. but usually you'll only come across anamorphic footage whilst working as they are very expensive lenses. hope that helps?
classic is just a very basic distortion model, i use this for shots I have no data on as it solves very basic parameters, if you use the more advance one it might give you odd distortion results, but if your track it good, they will both do the same job Radial standard you have a few more parameters to adjust if you need, these mostly get used for big focal changes or wider lenses to help with distortion
can I still/ should I use this tutorial if I am exporting the footage to then import it in to maya to integrate my model (made in maya) in with the footage ?
@@VFXTutors Thanks for your speedy reply, much appreciated. I was wondering if you have any tutorials for bringing tracked footage in to maya, specifically the line up within maya. I've got my footage in to maya im just struggling with the line up
@@hannahlowry1668 yeah, all my tutorials go through the entire process, do you have geometry you have already made or creating geometry from the point cloud?

thanks, glad they have been useful, if you upload the footage to onedrive you can send me a link to my facebook page, link is in the video description :)
sometimes 3de doesn't quite find the depth of the background and can give you a weird horizon, when you select a point to be infinitely distant, your saying there is no more paralax beyond this point and the furthest away, it can help a lot with shots where you have a huge distances like in this shot, hope that helps?

Ideally, if you have measured set dimensions, you should try to model the geo as close as you can, then import that into 3de and survey to the geo
