So nice to see someone bringing real value to TH-cam and the Career Advice space. Linda, you are the kind of person who I wish nothing but success because you will have gotten there by helping others. Awesome presentation and great advice.
Synopsis of job experience vs. details (as in a resume)... I wish I'd discovered your channel years ago. I recently learned & gained confidence on how to negotiate for fair compensation, that reflects my value, after watching your videos several times. You helped empower me. I hope that I was effective. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Some tips are good. I like that she has reasons for her preferences. Requesting recommendations and updating the profile are great starting tips. At the same time, there’s a lot of expectation placed on the recruiter here. They aren’t going to search extra to find me if it’s easier to learn about someone else.
Thanks Linda! I am a career coach and conduct workshops for unemployed professionals who want to return to the job market. These tips are a great addition to my materials. Thank you again!
I think having a profile summary stuck most with me. That is the one thing I struggled with. Was too nervous to write one, but I love the tip of making the profile about others "I help businesses" etc etc.
I have a Linkedin profile but sometimes I think that it is not interestig for most people who use that website. It makes me feel sad because I really want to get a good job.
I think that having a summary was a great tip. To be honest, that is the one thing I didn't bother doing because I thought that my job description was more important, but now I know how wrong I was. Not giving everything away on the job description is the second tip that stuck with me the most. Thank you for the tips! Great video :)
Thank you, Linda. I’m starting to Re-Brand myself overall on my LinkedIn. I never considered minimizing my work experience to pique interest. I always find myself composing these long articles. This will really take the pressure off. Thanks!
For those that want to get into it quick: Tip 1 - 00:42 - Profile Photo Tip 2 - 02:00 - Headline Tip 3 - 02:52 - Profile Summary Tip 4 - 03:54 - Experience Tip 5 - 04:52 - Recommendations Tip 6 - 05:33 - Contact Details
Linda, as far as profile summaries I have read that it is a good idea to also include your contact information, which give recruiters the ability to have clear and concise ways of getting in touch with you
Nicely done, Linda! Fantastic insight! As a corporate image consultant, I tell my clients and audiences that now days more often than not first impressions are made online versus face-to-face. We typically Google someone before we are going to meet them. And speaking of that, be sure you Google yourself as well to make sure what comes up is what you want associated with your name. Again, great tips, Linda!
Hey Maryam, I feel you. That's why I asked a LinkedIn Recruiter to join me for an interview and we discuss all kinds of options (with and without professional experience) in a much "in detail" video on my channel. If you are a fresh graduate one of the first things you need to do is underline your best courses in the university and also all additional extracurricular activities that you have been doing. Also, following the principles we discuss in the video, like professional photo, great summary, added skills and connecting with other professionals on LinkedIn will help you stand out even without the experience. Good Luck!
Linda, I have mixed emotions on tip #4. Currently, I am a college student, and on our campus, we have a professional development/ career development center. And the thing they always tell us is that the resume should include enough details to get the point across for what you can do at this job, what have you done in the past that makes this position applicable. They tell us to never flood the resume with everything we do. ANd they usually follow that by saying include a link to your LinkedIn where you can write all of that information. From working in the industry a few years now, I also can't say I agree with tip #4. Numerous hires have told me they liked both my Resume and LinkedIn, and I have the opposite from what's described. What do you think?
Incredible and educational video and this is essential and extremely worth for me and I am will implement this method on my LinkedIn profile , Thanks sharing this wonderful video
Thanks a lot for this video, I was planning to make a profile and thought to browse for some ideas and tips available online beforehand. I found all the 6 points very very relevant. I was also going to use a photo from the shoot at a wedding, but now I am going to upload one which is more exclusive. Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing these minor, but very important points... definitely I'm going to re-evaluation my LinkedIn profile and will make the necessary changes in it.
I love this video. I have watched so many videos on "How To Make a Great Linden Profile" to the point I don't even finish the video... BUT Your video here was the BEST one of All. Why? Because You Showed us, not just Told us, what it Looks like... Pictures or examples are priceless... Thank you so much for this GREAT Video.. "Bravo"
Nice video Linda, a lot of good tips but let me disagree on the details to include in the career description. You're right, there is a resume that can explain well what we are doing and what we did, but that should be max 1 to 2 pages lenght... and sometimes it's not enough, the risk is to annoy the HR if you exceed that size. On the other side, LinkedIn gives you a sort of first shoot of your experience and accademic path, then if the visitor wants more details, he can simply click and have access to the full story. This is my way to see how we can include the job or university career in LinkedIn and CV, but this is just my view. ;)
Great video Linda! I recently updated my LinkedIn profile, and within a few weeks I got a couple of leads for my business. It really is worth it to spend some time improving your profile!
Friendly video with great insight on preparing Linkedin profile, straight to the point advice very useful in my opinion, I enjoyed very much the video and the information provided by Linda. Thanks.
Great info but it is discouraging when you don't have any experience in the position you are applying for; only education. Any suggestions on how to enhance a profile in this situation?
I highly recommend adding a custom cover image to your LinkedIn profile to STAND OUT from the crown 😊When designing this, just keep in mind that the placement of your profile photo is different on mobile and desktop, so you'll want to make sure that the important information on your LinkedIn background image (such as call-to-actions, contact details etc.) do not GET HIDDEN by your profile picture 😉
Probably not useful now for you since it's 10 months past, but in mine I currently have the industry/positions I want to work in and that I'm willing to relocate.
Generally I agree, except for the 4th tip - it is CV that should be short & sweet, not LinkedIn profile. CVs are often printed and they can be 1, max 2 pages long. The profile, however, can be more elaborated, because it's online. On LinkedIn I still stick to short sentences in bullet points in the job descriptions for the sake of readability. It should be easy to scan, I agree with that. But you can take as much space as you want, it's not a sheet of paper.
Great advice and a huge help towards finding my right job....Thank you......I have done all the recommended changes to my profile....Looking forward for it all to work...:)
Very informative! Thanks Linda! I am an Administrative Assistant, Virtual Assistant and aspiring Voice Over Talent. Should I have a Linked in Profile for each of the three professions? Thanks again!
Love your comment "get over that fear and ask for those recommendations" - so true - you don't ask you don't get. But remember to give as well as receive. I recently wrote 10 recommendations for my team - took a few hours but worth it. Besides it's good karma right? I'm also tackling LinkedIn tips on my channel as I do feel people still aren't using it to it's potential.
Hi Linda, I just discovered your channel (and activities) and I am already a fan. In this time of my career where I am seeking new horizons, your tips are most certainly useful and of a great value. Many thanks. Mo PS: Of course, I'm subscribing to your channel !

I loved the idea of omitting details from jobs in order to tease recruiters

Thanks a lot.

Linda, as far as profile summaries I have read that it is a good idea to also include your contact information, which give recruiters the ability to have clear and concise ways of getting in touch with you
Thanks for this lesson. For number 6, any recruiter can reach you through the LinkedIn message function.
