    I had a 90% blockage in my LAD and apart from shortness of breath which made me go to the doctor I had no other symptoms. I had a stent put in and the doctor said I had a heart attack but I know that I didn't and this is now confirmed by Dr Ess and his explanation. I was lucky and it has been 6 years since my stent and only just found out about this plant based diet. I have ordered the book and will be pursuing this new diet 100% to live a healthy life hopefully free of any more events related to my heart.

    Dr. Esselstyn is one of my heroes and I have been strict whole food-plant based for 5 years, starting at age 48. Having tried a fad 'no sugar' diet thinking this will fix my cholesterol, then my cholesterol went up to 210 mg/dl, high! I think through some miracle came across the whole food-plant based doctors.
    I lowered my cholesterol to 125 mg/dl, ideal. I fixed high weight, blood pressure and resting heart rate. Now, only blood pressure at 125/85, is a little high. The rest are well controlled.
    The best way I can describe the diet is 'freedom'. Freedom from the super rich, addictive foods, and from the specter of a lifetime of medication to treat the symptoms, not the cause. Freedom from being out of breath after walking awhile or going up some stairs.

    From another video I have gathered, that eating greens which have been cooked for 5-6 minutes, with the addition of rice or balsamic vinegar - produces a reaction with our saliva (while chewing), leading to production of nitric acid. The important thing is that fluoride (from water or dental hygiene products like toothpaste, mouthwash or even antibiotics) prevents this from happening. Antacids also prevent this from happening.
    The greens are: kale, swiss chard, beet greens and beets including bok choy, spinach, collard greens, mustard greeens, nappa cabage, cauliflower, cilantro, parsley, spinach, asparagus, arugula, broccoli, brussels sprouts.

      It's not the cheeseburger so much doc. It is more complex than that simple explanation.Do a little research and give more details. Daughter bought me your book many years ago. I liked it but I continued over the years to look at the research. Not knocking plant based, go for it. Some people do ok with it & that is great. I was always hungry & felt bloated & blah a lot.. Grassfed is not only not bad for you And the planet compared to factory farmed meat but actually good for the planet with a negative carbon print. Do some research haters. A friend's wife feeds him plant based & he had quadruple bypass. I think he consumes to much sugar myself & I'm not blaming plants.
      I had a fantastic cheese burger w/o fries or sweet drink last night for example and it was great & satisfying. I couldn't ever say that much after a plate full of veggies.
      I eat eggs ( the good kind not from factory chickens full of omega 6's )5 or 6 days a week, usually 3 & sometimes with the 'good' sausage, and good fats such as Grassfed tallow and plenty of the good butter.
      Diet is 75 % to 85% good meats and fats.
      My blood work this year was finally looking not just good but really good. The best in 45 yrs. I had to look at it several times over several days because I kept hearing I would & that I was damaging my blood and cardio system and that I would have a heart attack. Especially since my father died of one at 43 I was sure to have one. I am 70 and I am doing ok. Doing so much better than 6 siblings who criticize me. I'm #3 by 4 yrs the rest are younger, up to 12 yrs and I am the only one that can & does play with my grandchildren. Wish I knew how to include pictures here.
      Plant based foods are good but don't bash cheese burgers without telling the whole story as to which ones are bad for you and the planet and which ones aren't. It's the fries and pop that people include with the burger along with bad beef that can do harm.
      The research is there, if you look. Ancel was dead wrong and a liar ! The sob !

    1. You can do that by doing Buteyko breathing
    2. Fasting with balance electrolyte
    3. Eliminate sugar, starches, artificial sweetener, any sugar combined with protein or fat, this cause blood to become sticky as mentioned.

    • @lg_believe333
      @lg_believe333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with some of these, after recently I discovered Buteyko breathing, when I was ill with a chronic sinus infection, and recurrent chest infections during the pandemic. But if you suffer from acid reflux, fasting can cause more problems with stomach acid. Starches aren’t all bad, if you eat potatoes, peeling the skin yourself, and cooking them without any cooking oils, etc. Just stick a jacket potato in the microwave for a few minutes, and serve it up with a little bit of butter, and a little bit of cheese. Eating these foods earlier in the evening, to give your body time to digest it. Eating these with fresh veggies, and fillet of salmon. The problem with a lot of starches, a lot of processed potatoes you buy in supermarkets have Rapeseed oils in them, sugars and salts, and additional preservatives, which is what makes potatoes bad for your health. Eat less process foods, opting for natural alternatives, alongside exercise, hydration with water, but not over drinking either, sleep well, and do Buteyko. That’s all you need. Moderation, and common sense. Also, I cut potatoes out of my diet for sometime, along with other starches, like porridge, and my body felt tired and weak. But when I introduced these foods into my diet, eating them earlier in the day, eating only natural porridge and potatoes, for example, and not process variants, I felt stronger and better in myself. The point I’m making, everybody is an individual, with differing lifestyles and habits. So, the best indicator for good health, is listening to your own intuition. It’s served me well, and helped me, when I haven’t felt my best.

    Does anyone know why Dr Esselstyn prefers us to eat more cook leafy greens rather than raw? I think it has something to do with easier digestion and more absorption thus more nitric oxide, but not sure.

    • @stevethevlogger
      @stevethevlogger 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      What I understand from Dr. Esselstyn (he was on three or four videos on his daughter’s TH-cam channel Jane Esselstyn so go there). For his heart patients, he is happy when they boil several handfuls of leafy greens for 5-8 minutes (boiling helps soften down the cell cellulose walls of the greens) then anoint few drops of balsamic vinegar over the greens then chew the greens well before swallowing. Do this 6 times a day…(Don’t use fluoride toothpaste, mouthwash or take anti acid tablets…I’m trying natural toothpaste called Auromere)…the amount boiled greens should be fist sized as ur closed hand….greens really shrink down after boiling.
      Ann Esselstyn suggested using a thermos if u need to bring boiled greens w u during day at work or trips. Yes, it raises nitric oxide in your body & again it is for his heart patients but many of us have heart disease or vessel plaques and don’t know it so advice would benefit us too so we can reverse them….if u have one known plaque actually u have more than one in ur system. U know it’s systemic……arteries go every where even to your eye retinas!

      He says it's because it makes the plant nutrients more bio-available. He also recommends adding balsamic vinegar drops. This creates a compound called dimethyl-1 butanol, a substance which fights against TMAO. Dimethyl-1 Butanol also comes from consuming red wine but he doesn't like any of his patients to consume spirits.

However, I wouldn't consider that diet a reliable path to follow, as it's akin to playing Russian roulette with a one in 10.000 chance of success. Who knows maybe your wife will be lucky to have his same fortitude. It's akin to what the seasoned gambler would say: we play the hand we're dealt.

    Stickiness is caused by glycation. I.e. when glucose attached itself to various elements such as LDL. Glucose comes from carbohydrates such as cereals. So a plant based diet of vegetables will reduce stickiness for sure but pasta, rice, bread, potatoes which are all 'plant based' will increase blood glucose levels and exacerbate the processes. Ps. There is a cycle in our body that converts Nitrates to Nitrites to Nitrosamines to Nitric Oxide. Sunlight helps creation of Nitric oxide. And cured meats contain nitrates and nitrites that are derived from celery and they don't have carbs, so enjoy your bacon and eggs but leave out the cereals.

      Most people can get rid of some of the plaque if it's more of a recent plaque build up in the last year or so. The old plaque that's been in your arteries for many years will most likely not clear up. A good plant based diet will clear up any recent plaque build up and the old plaque build up may not dissolve but the endothelial cells will be so healthy that your body will have lots of nitric oxide thus relaxing your arteries, so the arteries will dilate and your blood will also no longer be sticky. A healthy endothelial protects you so a partial blockage will not rupture causing a heart attack, stroke or sudden death.

      Dr. Esselstyn doesn't recommend supplements, accept vitamin B-12. You cant get nitric oxide in a bottle, you have to eat it. If you're not ready to go plant based yet then just do the best you can. Start one day a week with absolutely no meat and dairy. Then after a couple of weeks try two days a week and so on. The days that you are eating meat and dairy try having as little as possible while eating more and more dark leafy greens with other fruits and vegetables each day. Keep in mind by eliminating meat and dairy you are literally putting out the fire of inflammation that causes havoc within your body. Eating the dark leafy greens multiple times a day while eliminating meat and dairy will heal your endothelial cells which will increase that magical molecule called nitric oxide thus recovering your cardiovascular health, reversing heart disease and allowing you to enjoy a long healthy quality life style for many many years.

Besides, Mr. Overton might have done a lot of other things right for his health, and it was probably a very small portion size of daily ice cream. Studies about people surviving past 118 years of age suggest, that they all had a very healthy lifestyle. Jean Calmont is an exception, but she probably was a scam artist, who pretended that she was her mother when her mother died to get the pension of her mother. O.k. So within the first hour or two the blood vessels had evidence of inflammation. How long does it take the fat in the stomach to get into your intestines and be absorbed into your blood stream? Are you sure that it was the fatty sausage and greasy hash browns that were the cause? I don't think there was enough time lapsed for a meaningful amount of fat to get in the blood stream. However what certainly could have caused vasoconstriction which could mimic inflammation would be the two or three grams of salt that they consumed in a few minutes. I submit it was the salt not the fat that was the immediate cause.
