I became an atheist, I envy the people who have faith for they believe that someone can save them but no matter how hard I try to believe in something, I just can't fool myself. 1. Maybe God: was it six days of "work [that] appears so rushed" or 2. I'm thinking the antichrist is the ghost with the blood all over his hands. The repetition at the end makes me think of "I wash my hands of this" in the killing of Christ as well as of communion but for some reason someone is washing the mouth and hands of blood: it would be indicative of someone who doesn't want the religion. So if the song is called antichrist and it reaches over to reference these religious services would that make the "ghost" a human or THE antichrist? From looking at other people's comments, I connect that Matty wrote this song partly about his mom's relationship to him. So maybe all the "he's" are himself. I find this interpretation a little strange with the word wife used in the beginning. ["keep it in your cells spill it in mine"-family or God made each human, and the humans end up as criminals and liars? Does that not make life terrifying to live through? The idea of an antichrist is inherently connected with God/Jesus. Separately, the antichrist is connected with atheism because of the discussion on the outside.] The lyrics are not always so straightforward in following he's and she's (and I's) all the way through, and all the ideas from Matty talking about the song's meaning are mixed.
This song would be amazing for the ending of a movie, where the characters separate and go their own ways. they are each going their own ways, filled with fear and maybe even no hope for the future, due to the past, but like the ending, its a new awakening.
i don't think this is a 'good' idea since this song is just beautiful as it is. if someone would use this beautiful, beautiful music for a crappy movie, it would be ruined plus thousands of stupid kids would comment 'omg who's here bc of xy?' without understanding the main sad meaning of this song

My friend sent me here. I have never listened to the 1975 before and I'm trying it out now. This song is beautiful, I received actual chills from it. Now I feel as though I should listen to every other song they have.
A lot of you jumped too quickly into believing this song was about God because of the title of the song, he's not just questioning God, the lyrics seem like he's questioning everything around him at that point in his life. Really dark shit. Amazing song.
This band was so prominent during a dark time in my life that when I listen to the lyrics now I just understand them so much more. I can still appreciate and love this band even when I'm no longer relating to their lyrics. It's so important that the people who hear these songs and relate to them know something; it does get better and one day you will listen to these songs with appreciation and love. You will reflect on the sad times and be happy for them. Hard times build you as a person and you will find happiness.
One of my all time favorites. I think this song along with "ME", "Women", "102" and "Is There Someone who can watch you" are really raw to who he is and what he has gone through. I absolutely love them and I hate reading negative comments about what an awful band or personalities they are. Honestly, anyways that has met them will agree with me that they are the most humbled and sweetest people ever. I got the opportunity to talk with Matty about religion and politics, and I mean who the fuck can say they can talk to their music idols about such topics. Not a lot of people. This band has a purpose and stand for something, they dont care what anyone thinks. People are going to be mind blown when their 2nd album goes out. Cant wait to see them for a third time this yr in Nov. its a diff experience every single time.
Reminds me of my days as an atheist....but even now, believing that a loving God watches over me beyond the cosmos....He feels so distant...so far....so much like a dream I will never reach and can never deserve....I might lose my faith again. In any case, this song is so underrated.
I first listened to this song when I was just beginning to second guess my faith in God/the religion I was brought up in. It made me realize I don’t believe in it the same as everyone else because I don’t feel anything coming from this God that is supposed to exist. I consider myself agnostic now, but this song still makes me cry for what was lost and found.
Crying at the fact that Matty is aging. He's already 29, I absolutely love them, can't even imagine them disbanding in the near 50 years or so. This is art.
I used to do that too. Then I was doing homework and it was on autoplay, and I liked it so I checked and it was Anti-Christ. It's not blasphemous like I thought it would be.
Daughter: Why is my brother named Rich? Me: Because thats what your father has always desired most. Daughter: What about me? Me: Thats enough questions for today Antichrist live.
I love The 1975. Even though I've only been a fan since August, I'm completely obsessed. I went to a concert a few days ago and it was perfect. The allow me to find myself in their music. I'm completely lost without them!
Can we just take a moment to appreciate Matty's existence, he's such a pure soul man. If I had all the time in the world all I'd be doing is drawing, practicing my vocals and just listen to the 1975 all day long, that's my perfect day ;)
Man I play this song once every 2 or 3 years and it makes me cry every single time. The first few second fill me with so much dread and anxiety but then it feels like I’m thrust in front of some of my demons and I’m forced to talk to them. Then I rip off their masks and I see myself under them. There’s not many songs that provoke this much emotion from me, but this is amongst the very top.
Allie Arciprete really? coz i thought smoking can only damage your high notes, and i think it also gives you a more sexier low voice, andy biersack is an example.
lolkik421 it ruins the high pitch , when maty sings live and trys to hit the high notes he sorta has to scream it. Listen to robbers live and youll understand what im talking about , hes gotta stop smoking
I went to their concert last night and this guy made a sign that said "play antichrist". Matty saw it and said "I'll address your sign", and something along the lines of "but I cannot play it. You're a true fan for writing this though, and I love you for that."
Iove how they make songs going from darker and slow at first but then always ends with a massive guitar blast which commands you to feel all sorts of ways
Fell asleep on the bus in high school once, this song started playing on my iphone because i guess i accidentally opened it and I woke up feeling so groggy and a little emotional at the time so this song always gives me that same strange, tired feeling but it's beautiful because i remember it clear as day. Every detail.
I don't know why but... this song makes me feel like I'm close to death and at the same time it makes me feel alive. I can feel/hear my blood coursing through my veins. When I listen this song, I feel blessed. Thank you 1975.
this is beautiful art. been listening and loving the 1975 since they dropped chocolate. of course the new stuff is good to, but. THIS is the kind of music that... gives you everything.
makes me want to reach out and listen well. the message and how he sang it, I don't know but it makes me want to comfort him. the delivery is that good. I love it.

I love you all too much Is it the same for you?
Wow. A lot of you The 1975 fans can only think about yourself. I may not know much about the band, since I've only known them for a week, but judging by the comments, a lot of you have no respect for Matty's wishes. You whine, and beg, and complain on why he doesn't sing this song live. If he doesn't feel comfortable with it, then goddamn, LET IT GO!!! You have it HERE to enjoy it if you wanna listen to it. Sure, seeing it live would take it up a couple of notches but still. If he says he doesn't wanna sing the song live, then he's NOT GONNA DO IT. And whining and begging for him to do it won't change his damn mind! Now if you excuse me, I got more of their music to enjoy.
I reckon matty gets sad/annoyed with the fact everyone asks him to play this live he was in a dark place and he said he simply cannot play it live without breaking down as much as I adore and cherish this song I respect it. He created art but for now he just wants to hang it up not sell it

This song deserves so much more recognition and gratitude. so powerful.
I cry every time..."Is it the same for you..." *starts sobbing*
Reminds me of my days as an atheist....but even now, believing that a loving God watches over me beyond the cosmos....He feels so distant...so far....so much like a dream I will never reach and can never deserve....I might lose my faith again. In any case, this song is so underrated.
I first listened to this song when I was just beginning to second guess my faith in God/the religion I was brought up in. It made me realize I don’t believe in it the same as everyone else because I don’t feel anything coming from this God that is supposed to exist. I consider myself agnostic now, but this song still makes me cry for what was lost and found.
i relate to this so much
@@lilywigg never alone.
this song will always be one of my top favs by them. always.
Still such an incredible song and holds up nearly a decade later ;__d the emotion and instrumentals are perfection
Yesss🎉
well i love the house that we live in on the sims
What the fuck
HAHAHHAHHA
why did i give this comment a thumbs up even though idk what the fuck you´re talking about?
tater thot actually me
this song always gives me comfort in dark times
Every frame off of this video is just....a masterpiece
I can't believe this is going to be played live in their next world tour yes yes yes yes !!!
fuck yeah!!
When did he say that? Oh that would be sooooo great!! That's my favourite 1975 song
+Duygu Del Rey he said it on Twitter a few months ago
I just saw them live and it was the best thing ever. I'm so excited that this song is on the set list for next year.
Does that mean they're likely to play it this summer? Or is it only being introduced to their sets in the new year or whatever, do you know?
Crying at the fact that Matty is aging. He's already 29, I absolutely love them, can't even imagine them disbanding in the near 50 years or so. This is art.
its my first time listening to this song.. i was always scared to click bcuz its named "Antichrist"
I used to do that too. Then I was doing homework and it was on autoplay, and I liked it so I checked and it was Anti-Christ. It's not blasphemous like I thought it would be.
THIS SONG IS A SHIT
@@kbrainlebroin7998 you are tasteless
Omg same!!
Oh my goodness same here!
Daughter: Why is my brother named Rich?
Me: Because thats what your father has always desired most.
Daughter: What about me?
Me: Thats enough questions for today Antichrist live.
Somebody : and whats your name sweetheart?
I DIDNT KNOW THERE WAS A MUSIC VIDEO FOR THIS SONG UNTIL NOW AND NO IM NOT CRYING, YOU ARE
God, i remember listening to this in 2013. best year of my life.
it was my best year too i can't believe it's been 3 years
10 years now 😮
I love The 1975. Even though I've only been a fan since August, I'm completely obsessed. I went to a concert a few days ago and it was perfect. The allow me to find myself in their music. I'm completely lost without them!
I am now on the verge of tears, this is beautiful.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate Matty's existence, he's such a pure soul man. If I had all the time in the world all I'd be doing is drawing, practicing my vocals and just listen to the 1975 all day long, that's my perfect day ;)
Nice 😎❤️😎
these lyrics are so deep.. this is my favourite song by them by far
You just can't find this kind of truth in pop music. This song is beautiful.
Just heard this for the first time. This song is so emotional. No pretense, just feels so real. Raw...
songs like this just makes me want to move out, live alone and play this at full blast
I haven't heard this song in years and it's so refreshing to come back. I almost forgot how alive this makes me feel
i would die to hear this live
me too too bad matty smokes and cantdo the low notes anymore
Allie Arciprete really? coz i thought smoking can only damage your high notes, and i think it also gives you a more sexier low voice, andy biersack is an example.
lolkik421 it ruins the high pitch , when maty sings live and trys to hit the high notes he sorta has to scream it. Listen to robbers live and youll understand what im talking about , hes gotta stop smoking
emunti yeah thats what ive said, smoking will ruin your high notes
I went to their concert last night and this guy made a sign that said "play antichrist". Matty saw it and said "I'll address your sign", and something along the lines of "but I cannot play it. You're a true fan for writing this though, and I love you for that."
the pain in his voice just makes this song so much more meaningful
Iove how they make songs going from darker and slow at first but then always ends with a massive guitar blast which commands you to feel all sorts of ways
Does anyone still get chills three years later?
Still got chills eight years later
Still got chills
try 10years
this song makes me emotional, i love it so much
I'm so sad that we are never going to hear this live!! :( I can understand his reasons though
Why won't he play it live?
He was in a dark place where he wrote the song so it brings back memories. If anyone else knows other reasons feel free to let me know
Sophiee Cassiee oh wow, i really love this song i was hoping to see them in concert and hear it live
Yeah... they won't play this song unfortunately
didn't they say in an interview that they might?
Fell asleep on the bus in high school once, this song started playing on my iphone because i guess i accidentally opened it and I woke up feeling so groggy and a little emotional at the time so this song always gives me that same strange, tired feeling but it's beautiful because i remember it clear as day. Every detail.
This song will always be absolute perfection to me.
I used to jam out to this in year 9, and now I've rediscovered it again AND THE TEARS ARE COMING
I don't know why but... this song makes me feel like I'm close to death and at the same time it makes me feel alive. I can feel/hear my blood coursing through my veins. When I listen this song, I feel blessed. Thank you 1975.
This song makes me feel the boys needs hug especially Matty. Virtual hug for you all. Love love love... 🤗🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️
This song is insanely beautiful. I love the songs where Matty really uses his vocals, aswell as the more laid back ones.
one of the most brilliant art expressions. so pure. so genuine. so authentic.
Ive never met a band where I love every song they've made . thank you
This is pure magic and creativity.
this is beautiful art. been listening and loving the 1975 since they dropped chocolate. of course the new stuff is good to, but. THIS is the kind of music that... gives you everything.
This is the most deepest song from the 1975
And it hits different at midnight
And i also love it
One of the G.O.A.T albums every song is awesome keep on comming back to them.
this song is really something.. one of the best songs that the band have made🖤
makes me want to reach out and listen well. the message and how he sang it, I don't know but it makes me want to comfort him. the delivery is that good. I love it.
Well I swear there's a ghost on this Island
His hands, all covered in blood
My wife enquired of understanding
But of course my dear, you can't
She said 'How can I relate to somebody who doesn't
speak? I feel like I'm just treading water.
Is it the same for you?
Is it the same for you?
Well he comes and he goes, so capricious.
And his work appears so rushed.
Well I love the house that we live in.
I love you all too much
Is it the same for you?
🖤
Now if you excuse me, I got more of their music to enjoy.
it is a issue that human beings always think about themselves
Someone finally commented it
its kinda a meme tho
This mv's aesthetic is out of this world. It actually resonates with something in me I wasn't even sure existed. God I love this band 'till death
I can't stop listening to this. It is stunning.
