Almost every relationship is like this. It starts sweet while you get to know each other. The more you show them who you really are along with your imperfections the more you both grow apart. Love isn't guranteed or like something out of a fairy tale book. Love fades and changes over time. But the ones who stay are the ones who've embraced your flaws.

this is a really great song to listen in paris during the evening when the sky is purplish-pink and you're sitting on one of the benches on the street which is lit up by street lights.
When I first discovered the 1975, I didn't really like this song much. But lately its really grown on me. I think now this is one of the most honest and most beautiful songs ever written.
I'm a gangster rap kind of guy but for some reason, listening to this song just brings me so much joy and jubilation! And I'll be honest, I clicked on this song out of boredom and I've never heard of this artist until now. I'm hooked to this song guys. It's incredible how a song could make someone feel this way!!
I hate how some of their songs or lyrics are absolutely gut wrenching. "You used to have a face straight out of a magazine, now you just look like anyone " ?? I would crawl into a ball on the floor and cry forever if someone said or thought this about me
I feel like this is connected to Robbers because "You used to have a face straight out of a magazine, now you just look like everyone" and The City because "I never found love in the city..." I absolutely love it when bands connect their songs. This music video is perfection. This song is perfection. This band is perfection.
man this is such a beautiful video, and it goes with the song so wonderfully! a great way to portray the reality of certain relationship. brilliantly set contrast between the first and the second part of the video... glorious.
@@martezyoung5251 Who? The Basketball player for the Bulls years ago? Ya he just had that video out the last dance? Thought his name was Jordan though but I could be wrong, I don't watch sports.
I keep watching this music video. I don't understand why, but holy crap: this is one of the best music videos I've ever seen. I already loved the song, and the band, but man their music videos are something else.
I struggle to come back to this. It was my late aunt’s favourite song, I took her to see them before the pandemic in london and I’ll always cherish that memory of her getting to see them. This was played at her funeral and it’ll forever break me but it also comforts me, knowing that she had them before she passed. Sleep well Aunt K
My own interpretation of the video:She found him, who was just like her (the clown face). The relationship was so good and he seemed to be a fun, amazing person to be with (the flower, the gun game, the dancing) But as they spent more time together, the first impression started to fade away and all the “fun” things he did, no longer had the same affect on her, they got old, and did not amuse her anymore. But he did not know this, so he was beyond surprised when she left. It’s like you think you’ve met the right person for you, but as you know more about them you realize they're actually not, you realize you've had a 'change of heart'.
This song makes perfect sense. Having left all my friends from high school behind recently. Something switches in your brain in your mid twenties. Although I miss them, i know I couldn’t go down the path they were headed anymore. Such a depressing but meaningful situation. We all grow and change.
the city: "you wanna find love then you know where the city is" change of heart: "never found love in the city" robbers: "she had a face straight out a magazine" change of heart: "you used to have a face staight out a magazine"
its called nostalgia. deja vu is something different. it means tht u experience something u think you have experienced but u havent. Nostalgia is a feeling tht u recall something in the past by either going to an old place u used to go or doing something u used to do.
Seeing how they go back and connect their new music with old just fills my heart with joy! The visuals of this band is breathtaking and so interesting. Little details everywhere. Not only does this connect to im in love with you but also robbers (as far as i know). 10/10 band. Has never regretted the box tattoo.
@@RICKtoSICK10 Well im in love with you mv contains the same characters. With Robbers there’s the pistol and the lyrics “she used to have a face straight out of a magazine…” Which is linked to Robbers lyrics “she’s got a face straight out a magazine”
I just love how he uses a line from "Robbers" (..had a face straight out of a magazine God only knows but you'll never leave her) and twisted it in "A change of heart" (..you used to have a face straight out of a magazine...now you just look like anyone...I just had a change of heart) to show how their magic ended.. Brilliant!!!!
I haven't listened to this song in so long. but it was suggested to me yesterday, the same day that my best friend who i had feelings for told me he didn't feel the same way, and i needed this song as a sign for me to have a change of heart and start the journey of trying to move on. the lyrics hit so hard as i can relate to every single word while experiencing the actual heartbreak of forcing yourself to fall out of love with someone. That's what i love about the 1975 songs, they talk a lot better than i can
53 year old lover of great music. The 1975 are a refreshing great band.Wish I could of done Latitude but my daughter would ha ve cringed at her old man doing his moves. Keep it up lads. Great music.
Ha ha I'm 53 too, thought I was out of the bands demographic but originality and creativity, though rare will always find an audience and talent is timeless and ageless. Jealous of my teenage daughter who is going to Leeds but mature enough to realise that I can't tag along.
You're never too old to do anything! Music is universal guys. It's for everyone! THE 1975 put on an amazing show. If you wanna go experience it then go! I'd hate to think my parents didn't go do something because they would have cramped my style.
This band is so underestimated....so talented. I love the 80's sound. They actually play instruments just like before backing tracks and auto tune! So many "bands" were over rated in 90's and 00's, these guys videos are brilliant ☺️
Survey: Does anybody else feel like 1975 make better music when they have a more depressing and/or dark tone? Examples: Robbers, Change of heart, Somebody Else, Menswear, falling for you, Medicine etc...(and yes chocolate is up beat but it still has a dark tone, even more so when paired with the music video)
The Truth i read somewhere like an interview or something and apparently robbers is supposed to be a love story ive been trying to figure it out ever since
I think the reason I love this band so much is because when I'm upset they're amazing at blocking out thoughts. And when I hear the song again it sounds so much better
Hi! I just wanna say your music saved a life. I know someone who’s an avid fan of yours, and your music saved him from loneliness. Thank you for that! Hope you’ll continue to make good music that will save thousands of lives too! More power!
I love everyone’s interpretation of this song. Personally, I think he’s imagining/dreaming during all the first portrayal of scenes, “Are we awake?” Alludes to him wondering if he’s awake or dreaming. I noticed that every scene is repeated, the first in which the way he thinks the relationship is going; the second of each scene is when he realizes how things really are. In the end of the video he realizes he’s all alone, just like he was in the beginning when he’s left looking around wondering if he’s awake or not. Such a powerful and relatable video, in my opinion.
Also, the look on his face when he says, “Are we awake?” made me bawl. It’s kind of a rhetorical question in my mind-a prelude to the video unfolding and showing that he is awake. And that this is all real. Fascinating.
Incredible song that invokes all sorts of nostalgia and longing but I just really wanna appreciate the lyric artistry here too. Mattys ability to paint a meaningful picture with lyrics so simple yet instantly scene building in the mind as "you were coming across as clever then you lit the wrong end of your cigarette" are just absolutely sublime.
Absolutely love their choreography together; how in the beginning, when they first meet, its playful. But as it goes on, it shows the dancing becoming more begrudging, and stiff. They lean forward almost tired of what they're doing, she holds onto him like a liability.. they seem unhappy. Which is essentially what the entire song is about: two people who thought they were good together, but realized it just wasn't right.
This is slowly rising to the top of my favorite songs. The vocals when “You lit the wrong end of your cigarette”, chills. Cant wait for this concert❤️❤️
This video has taken my breath away. The deep layers of metaphor and symbolism have left me physically shaking. The way Matty behaves with the gun is a direct parallel to Robbers, as is the way he attempts to catch the popcorn in his mouth, which mirrors him catching the pill in his mouth in Robbers. The two characters also find themselves leaning on each other as they walk in a very similar style to Robbers. And that's ultimately what this video and the song represent. Our protagonist is doing everything he did before, but this time the perception of his behaviour and the way that it is received is totally different, as though the person he is doing it for has had a change of heart. This is mirrored in the lyrics. "You used to have a face straight out of a magazine, now you just look like anyone." is a prime example. A persons face cannot physically change, just the way that it is perceived. Thinking back on an interview Matty did a while back before I Like It When You Sleep... he said that the debut was an album focused on the acquisition of love and that it's follow up would be an album centered around the preservation and the cultivation of love. What he never specified is whether attempts to preserve said love would be successful... In Robbers, we see two people fall in love. In a Change Of Heart, we watch as time and circumstance challenges the love two people share, and how ultimately everything falls apart. This culminates in the final shot of the wet, sad clown. A throwback to some very early promo photography of Drive Like I Do adorning clown makeup and having water poured on their heads. "La poésie est dans la rue" can be seen in both Robbers on the cinema light box, and here mounted upon the food stand. This translates to "Poetry is in the streets" which is a running theme throughout The 1975's music. What I take from this is that poetry is everywhere, it represents what it means to live in a certain time and a certain place, serving as a metatext for the time and context of which it is written. Both videos are a visual accompaniment to their respective songs, which portray stylised and metaphorical distillations of what it means to love somebody. A poetic representation of real life. Anyway, that's just my two cents, if you made it this far then thank you for listening to my rambling. If you have anything you'd like to say regarding my analysis, whether it be extra information or criticism then I'd love to hear it. Thank you to The 1975 for everything that you do. // L O V E //
+carbutty I also find it interesting that besides our two main characters, the theme park is completely empty. This could be metaphorical for the deep rooted love that these two once felt. A love so deep that they become the center of each others world any anybody else is simply irrelevant. The video ends and the park is still empty, this suggests that our male character still sees his female counterpart as the center of his world, whether she does or not. It is also worth noting that the lyrics seem to represent the internal monologue of our female character rather than our male, an interesting juxtaposition between this song and Robbers. Whether this is simply an artistic choice or something deeper, it certainly got me thinking.
This music video is so good. The music, the atmosphere, the performances. Matty is a natural, and Katie Collins' choreography and performance are outstanding. What talent! Was thrilled to see her return for their music video "I'm In Love With You." Well done.
Robbers : "she had a face straight out a magazine" Change of Heart : "you used to have a face straight out of a magazine now you just look like anyone."

When I first discovered the 1975, I didn't really like this song much. But lately its really grown on me. I think now this is one of the most honest and most beautiful songs ever written.
I'm literally hoping they make a "Somebody Else" MV
+Alyssa Santos DUDE SAME

YES I LIVE FOR THIS COMMENT
+Miracle Cutie this is exactly what i thought of as soon as i saw this video
OMG YAS
I'm a gangster rap kind of guy but for some reason, listening to this song just brings me so much joy and jubilation! And I'll be honest, I clicked on this song out of boredom and I've never heard of this artist until now. I'm hooked to this song guys. It's incredible how a song could make someone feel this way!!
HAHAHA cool
Amazing, isn't it?
so I guess you had a change of heart about music like this
buh duh tsss
The fact that you just said it brings you joy and jubilation...😂😂😂😂
I hate how some of their songs or lyrics are absolutely gut wrenching. "You used to have a face straight out of a magazine, now you just look like anyone " ?? I would crawl into a ball on the floor and cry forever if someone said or thought this about me
I feel like this is connected to Robbers because "You used to have a face straight out of a magazine, now you just look like everyone" and The City because "I never found love in the city..."
I absolutely love it when bands connect their songs.
This music video is perfection. This song is perfection. This band is perfection.
No shit...Wow... You're a genius. You should get a medal...
A simple "Oh cool, yeah they are a brilliant band!" would have sufficed. Please don't choke on your sarcasm.
El-mè Raubenheimer I apologize. My comment was completely unnecessary and uncalled for.
Well that threw me off. No problem, then. All good.
also "you played a part, this is how it starts" --reference to the opening line of "Sex"!
man this is such a beautiful video, and it goes with the song so wonderfully! a great way to portray the reality of certain relationship. brilliantly set contrast between the first and the second part of the video... glorious.

I couldn't have said it better !! Totally agree !

Both the video and song is so incredibly beautiful. The storytelling of both is just another level of emotion.

@@cherry3911 Literally didn't know it was him, makes sense now after watching the live video
I bet he practiced that for months just for a 3 or 4 minute song lol bravo for sure
Mustof never seen michael jackson
@@martezyoung5251 Who? The Basketball player for the Bulls years ago? Ya he just had that video out the last dance? Thought his name was Jordan though but I could be wrong, I don't watch sports.
I keep watching this music video. I don't understand why, but holy crap: this is one of the best music videos I've ever seen. I already loved the song, and the band, but man their music videos are something else.
Somebody else*
SAME its my favorite song and music video by the 1975, i keep coming back
Three years on, this song still defines my love of The 1975. To call this song perfection wouldn’t be half the compliment it deserves.

We all grow and change.
the city: "you wanna find love then you know where the city is"
change of heart: "never found love in the city"
robbers: "she had a face straight out a magazine"
change of heart: "you used to have a face staight out a magazine"
and..".with a face from a movie scene or a magazine" but its actually a different one..
Fab I am good observations guys
All You Need Is Love and la poesie est dans la rue
Fab I am saw that too
Also he says 'sat in self pity and cried in the car' which is what he does in the music video for Somebody Else
I cant believe this song actually exists, it’s so pure and soothing yet makes me feel such strong feelings, i love you matty very much
don't be so over dramatic 🤣
And say feel it as hard as you can and express as best as possible, this song is amazing
@alviantheseam4152 whatever gets the likes in...
Throwback to when they made black and white videos Getting some major deja vu here
Déjà vu haha un mot français ☺️
its called nostalgia. deja vu is something different. it means tht u experience something u think you have experienced but u havent. Nostalgia is a feeling tht u recall something in the past by either going to an old place u used to go or doing something u used to do.
+Nikki Wright hahaha thanks. im on my phone so i do tend to use incorrect grammar a lot 😂
Seeing how they go back and connect their new music with old just fills my heart with joy! The visuals of this band is breathtaking and so interesting. Little details everywhere. Not only does this connect to im in love with you but also robbers (as far as i know).
10/10 band. Has never regretted the box tattoo.
can you explain how it connects, I'm interested to know lol?
@@RICKtoSICK10 Well im in love with you mv contains the same characters. With Robbers there’s the pistol and the lyrics “she used to have a face straight out of a magazine…” Which is linked to Robbers lyrics “she’s got a face straight out a magazine”
@@rpryzmz5542 well shit, thanks for pointing that out. Why didn’t I figure that out sooner. Lol
Also there are a few dance moves from Sincerity is Scary (or vice versa since that came out after)
this song is warm water on a bruised body. it's comfort over an ache. it's the smile you owe when someone says that everything is okay.
for goodness sake,
i wasn't told you'd be this cold
Can we just take a second to talk about how perfect this music video is.
It's an art.
Stop asking who's still listening in 2024, we never stopped listening.
YES
I LISTEN TO IT EVERYDAY. LMAO

Brilliant!!!!
the way he interacts with the gun is a direct reference to the robbers music video too
@@DanielSmith-bn6in There are so many references to other songs as well. "A change of heart" is my favorite song from The 1975.
Cherrypicker 👍❤️
Ha ha I'm 53 too, thought I was out of the bands demographic but originality and creativity, though rare will always find an audience and talent is timeless and ageless. Jealous of my teenage daughter who is going to Leeds but mature enough to realise that I can't tag along.
Cherrypicker I just found 1975! I’m a 65year old woman that loves all kind of music. On You Tube all the time listening to music!
You're never too old to do anything! Music is universal guys. It's for everyone! THE 1975 put on an amazing show. If you wanna go experience it then go! I'd hate to think my parents didn't go do something because they would have cramped my style.
Now 60 and still love this .
This band is so underestimated....so talented. I love the 80's sound. They actually play instruments just like before backing tracks and auto tune! So many "bands" were over rated in 90's and 00's, these guys videos are brilliant ☺️
Its like the cure isnt it? Happy-sad songs
40 ignored emotions hit me at once. thanks again Matty...
This video enhances this song. He really tried to please her. The fragility in love is timeless. 😢💔
Still my favorite music video at the moment
Skye Wheeler and somebody else obviously
Totally agree, the video is brilliant, and of course the song is one of their best.
Skye Wheeler Its kinda creepy sad all the way around, as happy pop sound doesnt even phase here ouch!
Is it still?
Skye Wheeler you should watch the music video for sleep on the floor
3:49 Matty hit the dab. You're welcome
ayeeee

+Kaylah Davidson .
He's Michael Jackson haha
I thought I was the only one who noticed
This song hits you on different levels .
Survey: Does anybody else feel like 1975 make better music when they have a more depressing and/or dark tone?
Examples: Robbers, Change of heart, Somebody Else, Menswear, falling for you, Medicine etc...(and yes chocolate is up beat but it still has a dark tone, even more so when paired with the music video)
the song me also has a dark demeanour
i like their new cheerful songs
Agree
The Truth i read somewhere like an interview or something and apparently robbers is supposed to be a love story ive been trying to figure it out ever since
I do like some of the new more upbeat songs like I’d love it if we made it a lot but I definitely the more dark songs better, especially this
I think the reason I love this band so much is because when I'm upset they're amazing at blocking out thoughts. And when I hear the song again it sounds so much better
Hi! I just wanna say your music saved a life. I know someone who’s an avid fan of yours, and your music saved him from loneliness. Thank you for that! Hope you’ll continue to make good music that will save thousands of lives too! More power!
I never get tired listening to this song. I love the musicality, music video and all. The guitar solo always give me chills. ❤❤
Watching this reminds me of "Build God Then We'll Talk" but in a more romantic way.
Same
me too!
my first thought exactly
+Jimmy Ilagan (Yurushi) I thought the same
PORNMIME
Sooo glad I found The 1975 ❤️
Hello, how are you feeling today and the entire family and friends
Absolutely love their choreography together; how in the beginning, when they first meet, its playful. But as it goes on, it shows the dancing becoming more begrudging, and stiff. They lean forward almost tired of what they're doing, she holds onto him like a liability.. they seem unhappy. Which is essentially what the entire song is about: two people who thought they were good together, but realized it just wasn't right.
aaaahhh. finally! a comment with sense. I can die in peace now!
Iliwys era will always be missed.
Alejandro Badillo Absolutely !
Yeah, sadly
No way, I prefer the new happy matty ❤❤❤
He may be happy and sober now but I like the old Matty more and the old The 1975, they are more interesting before and their songs
This is slowly rising to the top of my favorite songs. The vocals when “You lit the wrong end of your cigarette”, chills. Cant wait for this concert❤️❤️
this song literally feels like a best friend
// L O V E //
i noticed a few of these references and i loved your explanation of it all
+farah floats No doubt as I watch it more and more, there'll be more things to pick up on too. They've really outdone themselves this time.
+carbutty , Nothing more to say about your analysis, except it's almost as beautifully put as the video itself.
Am I the only one noticing the city reference.
