    The silence of a well tuned Hill style D bow is always amazing .

    • @caseysmith544
      @caseysmith544 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      D and almost D style micro R&D longbows the silence is amazing. If you have a thin string and it makes a light twang on a recurve, the solutions are either get a wider string or get some silencers preferring the second option so you can keep using the string. The String being off in width is probably the biggest issue in a bow besides a common easy fix of having the brace height off on the bow.

    Robert, you are spot on about the grip affecting the bow tune. I worked at an archery shop and everyone wanted to shoot through paper after the bow was set up and tuned. Most times their form was so poor from torquing the grip that they couldn’t get a good hole. We would have to shoot the bow for them to show them it was pilot error, not the setup or tune.
    As for the heavy arrows, I agree shooting lightweight shafts out of a Hill-style longbow is a good way to get tendentious in your elbow.
    Happy New Year and God Bless!🙏

    Excellent video Robert. I find between recurve long bows and even years ago. With compounds the grip, it's extremely important to be consistent, and the feel of l changes dramatically, as you said with how you grip the bow

    Game changer for me was just shooting a cheap 40 pound bow 70 percent of the time. Still shooting my 55 pounder but only once a week. The 40 pound bow has helped me be way more accurate with my higher poundage one.

    After over 30 years shooting Black Widow and other longbows I've found that gripping my longbows with a tight hammer like grip works great for me. Prior to going to longbows I shot recurves with a rather loose two finger type grip which worked good for me.

    • @caseysmith544
      @caseysmith544 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I shoot both styles of bows with a full grip or as close to a full grip as possible on recurve bows and why I do not like the more target/compound type of skinny grips on a recurve or a more recurve grip on a longbow as this prevents proper grip for these bows. Most longbows I like a universal left right Notched grip or if I can't have a universal notched grip, a round back straight grip for the second choice as most straight handle including forward tend to be not fit my smaller hand as most are made in either Howard Hill too deep but skinny enough or are too wide/squared off but right depth on the York/some older Indian design of straight grip where I would on the second choice York style need to do work to the handle some way if squared off corners in the back as some cheaper models use in York design of straight grip. On recurves the grip just can't be the modern target/compound type of skinny grips due to not able to use a full grip on them but also can't be the odd styles with the specific thumb slot so the thumb has to fit in just right each time in a less comfortable grip, similar issue with some with the grip that forces the hand or wrist into an odd position becuse of an odd low grip shape, both of this second style of odd grip shape are uncomfortable, that can lead to injury if not used to the grip style especially in the low odd grip.

    Just a observation from rear elbow to the string arm and wrist straight and inlighn to the the grip. This lighn you establish then lean your anchor into your string anchor point. Jeff does this also and ironicly with diference in grip this is how I alighned shooting compound. So now shooting recurve and tramsitioned my elbow to string to grip with out initial anchor and also lean in slighest to anchor. It was just a few weeks ago i saw jeffs video on grip preasure on a recurve. This made a huge diference the bows reaction. Actualy see others pull directly into thier anchor and can see thier wrist not straight somewhat bent yet very impresive shooters . Proves your point as long as you repeat the same thing acuratly you will have good results.

    Amen, the grip is everything, with correct focus of course. pick a spot, a tiny spot and let the force do its thing. Be consistent in your grip/form and pick that spot. Let that wonderful brain that God gave you do the rest. Be Blessed my Brother and have a Happy New Year

    Robert, BINGO! I'd only been into my first Hill Bow ever 6-8 months, and I was really struggling to get consistent! Mist time I was ok, then some bad! I've always been a full fist good grip shooter, so I couldn't figure it out? Then I saw Nates post on this subject. At first I thought, "Ah BS!" Then I got rid of self thinking, and I determined to try it? As soon as I settled into it, Bingo! Now it's embedded into my shot, usually! But I find it again, I'm back! It Works, Thanks for affirmation!

      There is a video from about 1990 that John Lee did (trained by Howard Hill) to shoot along with his sons in the that has since been uploaded to TH-cam. The Video in the good one part video is called Hittin em like Howard Hill. I have the Book by Jerry Hill, Howard Hills nephew called Howard Hill's Method of Shooting the Bow and Arrow that helped with some of the more Aming parts in the way I do instinctive gap or secondary aiming/split vison that are nearly/basically the same thing.

      Back single strap quiver is about the only way I can use my arrows, I do not like to use a side mounted quiver. A side shoulder quiver and a Side quiver in my area the side quiver is loud unless you have more the 3D Target competition model that straps fully to a single leg and the side shoulder quiver gets stuck on items even more so then a side mounted.
