  • Been running food grade tanker for 3 weeks or so.... Not the greatest start... I do love Prime Inc though regardless of what others say. 2nd Tanker in a row i've grabbed with a leaking hub seal 😭

    I hope that your Safety department recognizes your honesty and integrity. I am a Certified Safety Professional, and have been consulting trucking companies for over 25 years. My specialty is accidents and root cause analysis. Your video addressed so many questions I would have asked. You did your on analysis and found the root cause, and addressed how to correct this issue from happening in the future. I personally would reward you with a $500 check for your honesty, your integrity and your ability to find the root causes and then accept responsibility for your actions. As a Safety professional I applaude you Sir.

      @martin1234512345 let me help you out here. I hold a Bachelors degree in business as well as a Bachelors degree in Health and environmental science, I also hold several safety Certifications. I started my career working on semi trucks, because my dad was a true owner operator. Meaning that he was trucking before deregulation and was doing it under ICC rules, to which you probably no nothing about. I started driving trucks at 14 years old, and after coming out of the USMC I drove over the road for about 5 years, then decided to use my GI Bill and go back to school. As for my job, until trucking companies quit hiring stupid uneducated people such as yourself, then they will be a need for my unnecessary job. But you are correct, it does pay really well. So well in fact I semi retired at age 49! Mostly these days I just do consulting work with companies and show them how not to hire stupid drivers. Maybe your company needs a little help?

      @Al Capone I know right? It's kinda like the warning labels they have put on shit that warns you of the dangers of their product. People with common sense will read those labels and weigh the risks with the rewards. Then they are those that don't bother with either and throws caution to the wind. Until employers learn how to test potential employees for common sense, then there will be a need for safety departments to baby sit the retards they hire.

    I know a lot of drivers out there would definitely not be willing to showcase mistakes they made in order to share The learning experience
    Although I haven't done that I have made other costly mistakes before and have learned a little bit from watching your videos so thank you

    I use to drive tankers , one thing that I learned if you have your dome lid open go ahead and start to watch the level go down ,it only takes 2-3 minets, I to had unloading problems like this , you'll never do this again , you learn. Be safe

    I love the honesty and stepping up to the plate.
    Too much stuff is phony these days and it’s hard to tell the difference but not so here, the video doesn’t lie.
    What a great example you are Rex for the others out there that think the phony route is the way to go. I bet when it’s all said and done, comments like these will convince others that honesty goes way beyond and you’ll sleep well at night knowing that albeit $500 lighter in the wallet 😂

      That wasn't a mistake, it was a preventable accident that is EPA reportable. That $500 fee is a lease operator insurance deductible.

    Interesting to see the differences from food grade to fuel tanker ( which I do ) most of our deliveries are gravity fed to in ground tanks . We have multiple compartments so we can have multiple different grades/types of fuel . When we do deliver to above ground tanks that’s where a pump is involved. A lot of places have their own pump but if they don’t then it’s a truck pump load that PTO directly to the pump ( no hydraulics on our equipment) but only some of our trucks are equipped with pumps ( mine don’t) . At bulk plants with racks to load their straight trucks we will have to switch the valves at their pumps to change the direction it flows. Some pumps loads the customer may operate the pump but most loads all loading and unloading is done by the driver . I see you have to vent the top to unload, gasoline must have a vapor return ( the law in most places) so put trailers have pipes coming from each compartment plus the vapor return ( may hook up in several places on the trailer) . At the loading rack we hookup a skully electrical connection that reads probes at the top of each compartment that is designed to shut the pumps down to stop overfilling, the is not a fill to stop probe it’s a last minute dummy shutdown switch that could bust a blend ( ruined fuel blend) and will likely get the driver locked out for a penalty time . The driver hooks up all equipment and sets the meters for the correct amount, he/she must know compartment sizes ! It sucks that you had this accident I hope Prime Inc doesn’t look at this video and get onto you for videoing wile the accident happened! I have actually witnessed a fuel truck overflowing, wasn’t my fault luckily it was a system malfunction the operator was right there with me crazy considering the skully never stopped it we had to hit the emergency stop ! Good thing is the racks are made for spills like this so a good wash down was all that was needed except we had to fix the fuel blend . Btw I got my trucking career started at Prime Inc Reffer almost 12 years ago.

    As a former tanker driver for 20 years i feel with you,and especially during beginning your career in tanker business it can happen and my learning lession was a shower with oil😂 feels great.
    And i see and will say that you are doing a excellent job and i think they should give you the 500 bucks back

    I see you did everything right . Before pulling the pump on.
    What I do first is open the face plate and have spill pads or lasagna plate on bottom of the elbow.
    Open face place make sure it’s moving forward and nothing inside the propeller .
    Seals is good it’s like 3-4 seals.
    I usually change them every new trailer . But if the front seal is good it’s ok .
    Then put faceplate back and make sure the bolt is good.
    Now you can start your pump like you did your walk around to make sure no leak.
    But always pop the faceplate to see which way the propeller is moving.
    It’s the shop fault they put some of them pump backward.
    And no sign to say which way is write.
    Usually I write withmarker on doors so others are aware and report it to ra.
    I’m chemical driver now. Did my time with prime and went local .

    you're videos have been my inspiration to get into to prime. just got to get money put away to keep the family a float during training. ill for sure be putting you as my referral. For the valve trick you got there, cant relieve that pressure if you already have the inlet and out let valves closed.

    It’s crazy that American trucks have only two axles on the trailer and in Europe we run 3 axles for a smaller trailer and less weight !

      We pay tolls based on how many axles we are hauling, and possibly taxes too i work for a company so i dont see that part. All tolls though assume we are hauling max weight that the axles will allow, so having unnecessary axles costs the company more and thus never really happens.

    Be glad it was food grade and not hazmat believe me ...I have been yanking tanks on the chem side for 25 years and a hazmat spill opens up a whole can of worms that you really dont need....I have been very fortunate so far but i have been around other tankers that had problems..but you handled that very well.

      You’re correct that level of spill on the HAZMAT side and you get the full Monsters Inc clean up regime. Starting at around minimum $10,000

    One thing I noticed, when you disconnected your Intransit heat lines, you didn’t put the plastic covers back on the trailer side. Those are there for a reason. Be sure to put the caps back on. Also, it isn’t necessary to open the center valve on the trailer. I know you said it’s just your way. But I didn’t see you close that valve back either. From one Prime Tanker to another…… ✌🏻 you learned the hard way, so I won’t give you grief over the spill. Check EVERY trailer to ensure the pump is operating correctly. And start slowly, then after you see there isn’t any leaks, open it up to full speed.

    I watch a lot of videos on plane crashes. What I've learned from all the check lists they have, is it reduces the chance of forgetting things. Even having what is known as a " sterile cockpit " when taking off and landing. Being I've never done tanker work, I could see having a thorough list for loading and one for unloading of what needs to be done, the process it needs to be done, and any and every detail to be checked. It's easy to miss one step, like grounding a trailer with hazmat and suffer dire consequences. I've the tanker and hazmat endorsements and yes, I've realized there's a lot to the details. Oh, it seems like a simple map of places would help a lot.

      I work in aerospace so do a lot of procedures creating them and following them. But when I’m in my home garage all bets are off. I started doing check list on cardboard when I’m rebuilding an engine or something. Too many times I’ve forgot critical things some of them blew the engine.

    I worked for Prime tank division back in 2001. Stuck me in Cali for 12 days. Ended up coming back empty to St Joe, MO so I could get another load. Ended up turning truck back in about 3 months later

    Like you said "A ROOKIE MISTAKE" good partial ownership... I don't know what kind of training prime does, but , As a tanker driver myself , I run my motor to see what direction it's going then proceed from there, it's not on the customer, you were just sucking in the product instead of off loading 🤷🏾 once you get the ok to open the valve and start pumping, you would be good and won't have to worry about anything.

    I’ve been doing this for 34years , listening to experiences new and old and absorbing that knowledge helps , but NO driver is perfect my friend , we all make mistakes , embrace that knowledge , learn from it and you’ll always succeed . You’re only as good as your last job so make every job you’re best , I struggle with the technology and being computer savvy but the young guys show me , laugh at me but ultimately help me and vice versa , we’re all eating a sh## sandwich out here so let’s all help each other , stay safe , nice an steady as you go an you’re going to have a long successful career , subscribed 👍🏼

    Another way to check to if the pump is going in right direction is to climb back up to the hatch and look in from up top as soon as you engage it.. If the pump is back pumping into the tank you will notice waves moving from back to front. If no waves present then is properly pumping out. Should note pump direction around pump control handle if not already there to help out the next guy.

    Looking for a trailer gave me flashbacks of driving for ADM trucking and hunting a lot bigger yard for the right trailer. Then when you talked about the receiver did not want you to get on top reminded me of going to Nabisco in Indianapolis. They would not let you touch your trailer once you backed in. Glad I do not do that any more

    Hi. Roger has pancreatic cancer. We found out on Jan 10th. They scheduled surgery for mar 21st at St. Peter’s in Albany. He was in surgery for nine and half hrs. They took half the pancreas, the gallbladder, reconstructed the small bowel , and biliary ducts and lastly removed umbilical hernia. Had on a vent for entire surgery and prepared us that he may need the vent after surgery. He was in so so much pain and he is usually high tolerance to pain. I think he might be going home Tom or Monday not sure yet as he still has two drains that need emptying every other hour. It we are getting by he is a champ! It is killing Jim that he is missing hockey! It with being a diabetic type 2 he is now a diabetic type 1 insulin dependant until time passes. And he heals internally. We will get the pathology reports next week. Please say prayers for him that they got all the cancer. We went to St. Peter’s hospital because it is numberonein ny state for pancreatic and liver cancer

    Great job of handling the situation, i used to deliver oil to ships coming in overseas..... after im hooked up and cleared to go, open valves and start the pump.....id always check the gauges and make sure they are at the right pressure, after about 60 sec I know there is nothing blocking the flow of oil. Then i hop up to the top and do a visual inspection to make sure the oil is flowing with my own eyes.... now thats a luxury i had transporting oil..... some products are to hazardous to do so or just impossible to to do like liquid gas

    In my opinion there should be no way to hook up hydraulic lines the wrong way, if they have units that can do this then it’s the company that should rectify that situation. That being said a driver still has to be vigilant when loading and off loading product. We always had electronic gauges to measure the fluid in our tanks so we could visually see a drop or increase in product. If that wasn’t available we had to climb and visually check to make sure product was going down. I would make those recommendations to the company. Ultimately yes it’s the drivers responsibility. I’m impressed you put this out there, a great learning tool. Kudos to you driver and yes you will not make that mistake again. Mistakes are made and we learn from them.

    Awww man ☹️ I'm sorry bro don't let that get you down and since the algorithm love accidents , your views gonna go up unfortunately. In my short lived experience of doing tanker I hauled a smooth bore of castor oil. Wouldn't it had been better to use air to unload the product? And I think the customer should've made the connection on their pump so it falls on them . Anyway keep your head up and keep up the good work 👍🏿💪🏿

    I just started a pneumatic tank job and I've had a couple hiccups aswell. It sucks but the bright side is it's a mistake you'll only make once

    In the future, when you disconnect the intransit and hydraulic lines, please replace the rubber caps back on the connectors on the trailer. That keeps them clean for the next driver. Never liked going to Loaders yard. It is either nasty and muddy, or so dry that driving through there turns your truck white from all the dust. My trainer and i had a spill over 5 years ago at the same place you did. They told us they had a check valve. We pumped off, then when the tanker was empty, the pump was put in reverse to clear out product from hose, while removing hose we were met with a gush of product because of them not having a check valve. Fortunately my trainer was not charged with a fee because they told him they had a check valve. Amazing that they have not installed a check valve after all this time. would save them and future deliveries a possible headache. Really enjoying your videos. Stay safe.

    The offload connection point at that facility is lower than their storage tank. A check valve is MANDATORY in their system to prevent siphon. They are partly to blame.

    Hey, i know when chemical tankers when they are unloading they place a bucket to catch any leaks. So maybe that will help if you dont do that

    About 50 gallons. No big deal, as long as your not mixing different oils.
    While at a bakery, waiting to pump some flour, driver in front mixed red flour with a different grade. Both silos had to be pumped out and disposed of. THATS A FUCK UP.

    Might want to look into a in line check valve to / from your hose. It has to available somewhere

      We had a guy with leaking valve hauling fuel. Wasn’t even that big of a spill. 16k fine after hazmat cleanup & fire department were done with him

    What tire pressure does Prime have you run on those steer tires? And when you pump what rpm to run pto do you set it at? and if so how do you deal with bees 🐝 since your food grade

      I run 105psi in steers and 100 on drives. Haven’t ran across bees yet… I just switched back to inedible. Tried out food grade for 3 weeks. Home time didn’t work out for me well. Hope this helps ya!

      @@truckingwithrex oh I just wondered what tire pressure you ran , I run 100 psi on all tires on tractor just my preference I like they it rides and my tire wear. I asking about bees but that’s probably cause I haul Sugar / I.e. liquid Sucrose. Good deal man well home time is important. Hey find out how many gallons per minute your pump put out most mine are 253 gallons per minute divided that by you your normal 3 inch hose and set your engine Rpm to what you come up with will help you save fuel while unloading and less wear and tear on engine components. You unload in about the same time . Fluid dynamics equations hope this helps . Stay safe in between the mustard and the mayonnaise catch you on the flip side. 😎

    Question. Since you're picking up pre loaded trailers that requires in transit heat. what keeps the contents from cooling down/hardening up before the trucker(you) arrives? Do they try to judge the load time with the pickup time so the trailer dose not sit long enough? or do they just load trailers and the trucker(you) has to heat the contents back up with the in transit as you drive. Dose the contents HAVE to stay warm/hot depending on what it is. or is in transit ONLY for you to be able to pump off the contents?

    That's exactly why you have to standby. Could you imagine the mess if you had gone inside to take a leak. You probably spilt about 10 gallons. Oil spills always look massive.

    Did food grade for Carry for the last 5 years. Oil is the worst. Every trailer is a little different in the way they unload. My worst was to overfill a lard tank. Start your pump slowly and watch your hose. If it doesn't move from the weight of your product shut the pump off. After you open your pump you can run up the latter and make sure it is draining not filling...

    That hydraulic valve is plumbed incorrectly. When you pull the lever out/back, it would pump out/off load, and when you push the lever in/forward, it would pump in/load the tanker.

    Merde alors! Good you were right there and got pump shut off quick. Looked like receiving employee had seen that mistake a few times. How short was delivery once you got pump going right way? What was the clean-up bill? Yep, key to success in any endeavor is not to make same mistake twice. Did Prime send you for post incident drug test?

      Usually about 1hr sometimes 2 to unload my tanker depends on customer’s setup 3” or 2” piping. I’m sure the clean up bill was larger than $500 considering they sent a crew of 4 guys to clean it up. No drug test from Prime but those are all great questions 🤙💯👌
      On the drug test part I’m sure Prime does those because I’ve heard of this. I think 🤔 they look at a lot of other things like your driving alerts like, collision alerts, stability alerts, hard brakes etc. An accident involving police would probably warrant a drug test (me guessing)…
