Rest in peace, Casey Benjamin. This was one of the performances that invigorated my love for modern jazz as a kid. I aim to honor your legacy and carry the tradition.

@JayoJay What about Victor Wooten

can't concentrate at work because I'm melting into my chair
I feel you !
Still an absolute classic!!! What a band!!
Rest in peace Casey Benjamin. This is one of the best live sets I've ever seen in my life. This set has stuck with me for the better part of a decade now.
That drummer is fenomenal. Those hi-hats!
Michiel Celis Those poly rhythms!
+Michiel Celis Indeed! Who is he???
+Chris Steurer Chris Dave I think
+Michiel Celis Mark Colenburg
indeed mark colenburg
best 30mins of music on TH-cam
Mark Colenburg's push pull is mesmerizing. I've been practicing this technique occasionally over the last few years and haven't made much progress; it's an incredibly difficult technique and he utilizes it perfectly. His syncopation is beautiful, his speed and precision are unbelievable, he's simply a phenomenal drummer.
You prolly dont give a damn but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow forgot my account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me!
@Valentino Franklin instablaster ;)
@Lee Wesley thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Lee Wesley it worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my account!
@Valentino Franklin Glad I could help xD
I think I’ve said it before, the best 30mins of music on TH-cam
Agreed.. By far!
True dat
I remember the first time hearing Casey. They opened up for Ledisi at the Tower Theater. I got fired the day before and to cheer me up, my ex copped tickets. We were late so the opening act was on. I walked into the most incredible music I've experienced in some time. I sat mesmerized. 2 songs into I asked who the f#$k is this? People snickered and replied Robert Glasper. Casey was inspired. He was the vehicle that pushed that extraordinary band. RIP my fellow artist and brother ❤
People who have no clear understanding of the history of Black music find the Vocoder as a distraction. But, it's actually a gift from our musical past. The voice was always our most powerful instrument. From the "call and response" of the Black-sanctified church to the screams of James Brown. The Vocoder is just us pushing the voice to another level of beauty. Casey is damn near Jimi Hendrix, with that thing. Remember, people didn't get him at first, either. I get you, brother!
Herbie is the Jimi of vocoder
+kobebryanthashops Stevie is the Jimi of the vocoder tbh 😊
+emanx222 some would argue Roger Troutman
Definitely Roger was the father of it and, some would argue, the greatest would ever did it. But, my argument is, Casey is using it more as a distortion device (like JIMI) than Roger. Roger was very harmonic when he used it. Casey... not so much.
vocal is the centre of every musical culture, it is the thing most emulated and deeply inspiring... in bulgaria every instrument develops a playing style centred around emulating traditional bulgarian singing... it is how we know music, as an extension of the person communicating it to us, that is when the connection is most real ;)
14:54 One of the most beautiful chords of the whole performance.
why is smells like teen spirit amazing EVERY TIME
Because aliens exist and these four gentlemen are channeling them.
This is breathtaking. Derrick has the most incredible touch. Such finesse
The most amazing 30min of music of my life definitely..
casey benjamin. best teeth in the fucking game
that is the plan
20:54 He's killing that hi-hat!
that drummer is so good, i swear its gonna give me my first ever epileptic episode
This was definitely a session that needed no interview. The music said everything. Massive respect to all the musicians in the Experiment.
Loving the mellow instrumental journey.
Been a fan of Glasper Experiment for a while now... this is just sublime

That Rhodes sound on that keyboard is amazing
Wow what great musicians. So much groove and expression. Thanks so much for sharing!
I need a studio version of "I Can't Help It"-so tight guys! Every time I see you live, my love deepens for your grooves and vibes. The world needs saving-long live jazz and all of her flavors served up by the Xperiment!

I've never heard a more expressive drummer, and such amazing groove
They literally just blowed me away..ooh godness there's no way better words to describe the marvel that the Experiment makes. This is authentic music from a sacred place and it's music for the soul!
10:42 Robert and Derrick play ‘Line-up’ theme
This is just so good
The keyboard playing moves me...love Glasper's style.
phenomenal
Shit dude, that sax solo in "All Matter" is off the chain!
I love this. The timing, the groove, the way it's all fitting together is magical! The drummer is probably an unsung hero because what he's doing would seem to me to be super difficult.
So true, only issue is Chris Daddy Dave is a super hero on the drums!!
I'm a believer still. God bless Rob and the extraordinary experienced experiment.
Amazing.
ENORMOUS concert!! Yes I!!
I was there. It was freaking amazing! Glasper's face was mesmerizing. He was in a completely different world. Will be seeing him again in sf in two weeks.
I wish their albums sounded more like their live stuff. I think all the extra synths and samples on the albums kind of gets in the way.
As much as I like Nujazz/Electronic music I wholeheartedly agree
I agree, even though I like the albums quite much, they just dont sound as free as this
even more reason to catch them live if possible
classy goodie - THANK YOU !!
So nice, I,m listening from São Paulo/ Brasil
I stood up and cheered. Also, I bravo'd SO many parts. Incredible.
bring em back!!
Wow, this totally needs more views and comments. If you ever have a chance to see these guys perform live, they are the most energetic and happy people. Really easy to get into the music and feel it.

Que buena esta banda, un ensamble explosivo.
Derrick's bass tone is the best use of an octaver pedal I have seen. I have tried to replicate this tone for a year and have not gotten it yet.

When hip hop met jazz.
ibemanny99 hip hop was made from jazz
ibemanny99 When hip hop met jazz. G.U.R.U's ode to Blue Note-Jazzmatazz#1. Believe it or not, Kendrick Lamar's TPAB Is full of Coltrane inspiration. Glaspar, Martin and Thundercat all contributed to Lamar's masterpiece. My vote, so far, for 2015 album of the year.
🗣️ PERFECTION 🎉🎉🎉🎉😊💪
Drummer is mental! Amazing performance.
