For those who freak out about Winston being in the caravan on his own:
    - I'm traveling solo for 64 nights; I cannot be with him 24/7.
    - Where do you think he goes when I go to the shower or visit anywhere where dogs aren't allowed?
    - The Pod is our house when traveling, so it's no different than leaving him at home.
    - Winston is fine with it (and I have set up cameras in previous episodes to show this). He doesn't fret, panic, or bark; he just sleeps.
    - Lastly, Winston is 12 years old; sometimes, a few hours of sleeping in the Pod is the better option for him.
    Thanks for watching 🐶✌😎
(Sorry, but if I didn't put a pinned comment, I would have ended up with 20+ comments all with the same concern and I know it's just because you care about Winston ❤)

Roz, it was lovely to see you giving yourself a bit of time on your own, without Winston, despite us always chuckling at his swishy tail. You made sure he was safe and catered for in the Pod...he will have just slept and dreamed doggie dreams and enjoyed his rest time. So a good decision for you both.
We look forward to your videos, as a point of relaxing and enjoying your adventures..and that swishy tail and orange dog toy - well loved!
It is generous of you to do these videos for your followers. Living in the Highlands- you have seen more of the area than we have 😂, but it is inspiring us, so thank you and bless you both.

People don’t understand dogs if they are complaining about that Roz so ignore them. I’m a great believer in making your own luck and those that wait for it just end up in the ground with those experiences. Good on yer! As I’ve said before you’re and inspiration 😊❤

How anyone can criticise how you look after Winston is beyond me. You obviously love him to bits and he loves you. You also always explain why you have to leave Winston behind in your vlogs. The story of how those poor service men lost there lives was so sad. You summed it up perfectly in one word . Heartbreaking. Really appreciate your honesty and down to earth attitude. Thanks for posting.

While watching you talking (rambling on) in the cemetery a famous quote came to mind by Etienne de Grellet. “I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” I like to change " any human being to "any living creature"

There are lots of unknown stories of tradegy across the British Isles. My grandma worked at the munitions factory in Chillwell, Nottingham. She was one of the canary girls ( so called because the tnt turned their hair green and skin yellow) they worked in shifts filling 6 inch howitzer shells. One evening their was a anexpolosion at the factory. My grandma escaped with lacerations and bruising. Many ( hundreds) were dead or lost limbs and horrendous burns. Its a little known tale of bravery and tradegy. The girls turned up at the flattened sight to continue working despite their fear. My grandma was just 18 at the time. She had two brothers, which she lost during the war, but she refused to be broken. This is a story little known unless you had family involved. They had to fight to get a memorial. She lost many friends and a cousin in the aftermath that day. She never missed an anniversary in her 84 years. Please don't be concerned about getting teary. These people live on in our remembrance.

Roz another wonderful video. You should never apologise for being a thoughtful kindhearted human being, I wish there were more like you around. You seem full of humility and come across as a wonderful young lady. I like you, am now looking at a new lifestyle creating a more fulfilling life in my last years. It is indeed unfortunate that anyone would criticize you for allowing Winston to have some time on his own in the Pod (which as you said is his home - where he is comfortable and familiar). Winston, as do all of us, needs some 'Winston' time from time to time. Thank you again for allowing us to share your co-adventures. It also shows how much you care for Winston, knowing what a stress the long trip would be on the well-seasoned Winston. Kudos for your well reasoned concern. And, of course, I much enjoyed your biking sojourn - and was deeply moved by your style of presentation about the WWI ship sinking memorial. Keep it up Roz.

What a lovely tribute you made to this. You tell the story well and with great respect and empathy.
I didn’t know there was a new memorial there, I haven’t been there since that was made.
I have connection to this tragedy as my Great grandfather was coming home that night. What i was told was On the night of the disaster there were 2 ships sailing and some chaos at the quayside in Kyle (the port they left from) as trains turned up and these men reunited. It was new years eve and they were of course joyful to go home after war. My great grandfather went onto the Iolaire looking for his friends. Now i heard two accounts for why he left, one friend he found onboard but his friend convinced him to go to the other ship, the Shelia, as he thought there would be more friends there and so they left. The second account was that a superior told him and his friend to travel on the Shelia so they left.
Amongst the pandemonium getting the boats loaded i heard this story was not unique, many were boarding, un-boarding, looking around for friends and a sort of deciding which one to travel on and with whom to travel.
I was told that Stornoway Harbour is a tricky one and the Captain on Iolaire was not that familiar with it and suspected to have been drinking. They went of course and a lot if the guys coming home were fisherman well familiar with the harbour and sensed the danger long before the captain but were not listened to. Some survived by holding onto the mast all night in the storm and were rescued in the daylight on new years day.
Anyway for me im lucky he wasn’t on it when it sailed and for so many others they were not so Fortunate. Im glad you chose to go to this site and share it!
I love your dog! Very alike mine! A 10 yo cocker! She loves getting petted too! I think you have created a paradise for him and taking him exploring!!

A great vlog that conveyed emotion, compassion and happiness. In a world full of linguistic manipulation to see open honest feelings is refreshing. Your refreshing outlook is something I envy, admire and enjoy watching. Dogs are fine in a controlled safe habitat and that is where you left Winston to suggest you were doing otherwise is bewildering.

My Great Great Grandma lost her husband in WW1 - as was common in those days his younger brother married her because she had children to support. He went to war and was shot for desertion - i.e. he would not "go over the top" - one of them is not named on any war memorial.

A very touching tribute to those lost at Lolaire. I cried openly at Aberfan last year. Sometimes these places get to you and so they should if you have any humanity. As for leaving Winston I often leave my Malcolm in the van for an hour or two in the cooler times of year. Dogs don’t have much concept of time and I get the same mad greeting if I’ve been away two minutes or two hours. He just sleeps. Looking forward to next weeks vlog.

This has been a wonderful video to watch. On your own, without Winston, who was happily sleeping in warmth and safety, paying a visit to a fantastic memorial to the Iolaire. I too found it very emotional. I first read about this in Peter May’s Lewis Trilogy. When I visited my daughter here in IOL, in Campervan, I came to visit it and like you I was very moved. Good on you for not veering away from the emotion. I too have a travelling canine companion whom I have to leave alone at times. These K9s are living their best life. As are you.

It is emotional, when you find a gravestone of your ancestors, who survived World war 1. I did this year, find my great, great great great uncle gravestone in Aberdeen graveyard, but the sad thing his son died in the war and is buried in the Somme graveyard. So I also get emotional at these memorials, knowing my ancestors died in ww1. Wish I could go back in time and meet them.

In response to and in support of your pinned comment - Winston is an extremely well cared for dog and you would never put him in harms way. Rest assured all Winston is in excellent hands. You are one of the few people I would, without hesitation, allow to watch my dog and I wouldn't worry about her at all. You and Winston are a beautiful team!!
I got really teary when you were talking about those poor souls returning from WW1 - that is beyond tragic. I too am glad a memorial has been erected because we would not know about the whole tragic event otherwise and those lost souls and their families deserve to be remembered.
As for the cruise ship - my parents (once) and brother and his family (twice) have done the cruise around Britain and loved it. I will ask my Dad about that dinner tonight. BTW my Dad is from Scotland and came to Canada when he was 16.
Thank you again for a wonderful respite from my busy day - a nice cup of tea, shortbread cookie and your vlog!! Loved it :o)

You did well to leave the cake until all the clearing away - and a main course - were sorted. I think I might have had half of 2 of them and much earlier than that!
Thank you for taking us to the memorial and the cemetery. My eyes would have been (indeed, were) leaking too. That song Old Pen by Cody Francis was just right for where you put it (not always the case in some YT videos). It took me a while to realise he's singing 'I met an old man' and not 'nomad'!! Very thought-provoking and uplifting, all in all. Thanks, Roz. Laura

That food would have been gone in seconds had either of them been in his position. Well done on another good story video, I am enjoying your adventure greatly. Can I just say that I agree, you make a lot of your own luck. Ah you missed a great path along the coast down at the iolaire, if you'd just gone through the other gate! There are slates along the path with each man's name. Glad you were happy up here, it's a happy place to be

Another incredible vlog and so respectful of those who sadly lost their lives! Have to say the bakery looked amazing, so much choice! We both enjoy your vlogs since you have the same values in life that we believe in. Good to see Winston enjoying himself so much too. The "wagger" at full speed is a real delight and the bond between you both us clear to see. We used to have a female Rhodesian Ridgeback who was an incredible soul and an important part of our lives. Miss her very much . Take care and stay safe. Sid and Nicola.

Hi Roz & Winston. What a poignant vid, thank you sharing your visit with us and how fitting was it that the Island has a memorable to those lost people. As for leaving Winston in the Pod, you understand him (I don 't think he understands you 😂😂) & know whats best for his welfare, as shown by your concerns about being on a busy road with his trailer etc. Many people leave their dogs at home all day without a second thought. You weren't gone hours & Winston probably slept all the time getting well rested for his next outing.Hope you are both ok & not had too much snow in your Scottish home.Take care 💞.

I empathise with your sentiments completely, Roz. As someone watching and caring for an Altzeimers sufferer your comments hit home massively. One of your best, if not the best video to date. Love the tears and laughter and memories. Cheers guys.

As usual roz another brilliant vlog you summed it up a treat tbh that's a natural reaction for anyone to get emotional after seeing anything to do with the both wars my grandad got captured in ww2 and when he passed we found a lot of his pictures that were taken when I looked omg I was broken so it just so natural to react the way you did can't wait for the next vlog

A very thoughtful episode. 19:52 If ever I see a Commonwealth War Graves notice like that one on the gate I make an effort to find those graves and read the incriptions on the headstones before I leave. To me it feels like the right thing to do.

What a fantastic episode. Nothing wrong with showing your feelings and, as you say, live your life. You said on another episode whether you wondered whether you had made the right decisions in your life rather than 'normal' ones. There's no normal decisions, there are only decisions which are right for you, and you are doing what you've obviously always wanted to do, to live to its fullest. So, I'd say, you're doing pretty well 😀 Best wishes to yourself and the glory who is Winston.

At 12 yo Winston is an old guy and will appreciate some rest. Our cat is 17 ( the last one lived until she was 23 ) and there comes a stage in a pets life when ........well they know how to manage their days shall we say. Its been sub-zero for 2 days here and our cat has appreciated being fed on the landing whilst she stays on the beds - she comes down to go on her tray. They can cope far better than some people think.

I just wanted to tell you, your one of my most watched TH-camr. I absolutely love your content. I want you to know I think you’re amazing, you’ve inspired me to get out there. I’m 53 and have been saving up for a little van. Little vans like yours are not seen much in Australia, they are more of posh camper trailers like tents. Can’t get the Pods here sadly but there are alternatives. The one I fell in love with is gonna cost more than my car!
I’ve always been afraid to camp in wide open spaces (let’s be honest Australia has a lot of those), worried about what’s sneaking up behind me in the dark! But I’m getting there thanks to my wonderful sister.
Anyway you needn’t respond to my comment I just wanted to say hi.
As for your precious boy, you don’t have to explain your intent on leaving him or not, it’s your call and honestly those that have nasty opinions about your choices need to just bugger off.
Have a lovely time, I’m looking forward to your next video with eagerness! ❤❤

Totally agree with you Winston is all ways happy and he doesn't look neglected and you don't have to feel like you to stay with him all the time you have to do shopping for you and Winston and go places on your own so don't feel guilty about leaving him for a short time a nother brilliant adventure 😊

You need to remember that circumstances surround life for anyone. I know exactly how you feel. Luckily you have Winston, your viewers and having your own dreams. I have been through all of those times in life with the military and just normal life. Unfortunately very few people care.. I watch you and Winston because your real..he always looks back for you and you look forward for him. It's a nice bond

Another very enjoyable video - I really look forward to them. It’s such a shame that You Tube attracts the people who think they know it all. They hide behind their anonymity. I echo all the lovely, positive comments - only you know best for Winston - that couldn’t be more clear.
