just a note for those doing resupply boxes, it takes a little time to pick them up but you can go to a local post office in your town and get the boxes totally free thus saving a few dollars that way.
I appreciated how detailed you guys are in your videos. It’s fun and helpful to see exactly what you’re packing for resupply and what your process has been and will be. Thanks for sharing!
My daughter has POTS and we used to get Liquid IV all of the time. It kept us out of the ER for iv intervention. However, we changed to Drip Drop packets this last year because they are more accessible and affordable and do as good of a job. If you run into a pinch on trail, Drip Drop is readily available at most Walmarts.
wow thank you for the wonderful suggestion, Hope! That will be extremely helpful as we still have 1/2 of our resupplies to do on the spot. Happy Trails!
Awesome tips! Thanks for sharing. I really want to stay as paleo as possible in my future thru hike. I don’t see the links you guys mentioned on details about food dehydration and packaging and also best places to send resupply boxes to.
Of course, here is the link! Apologies for not linking it sooner. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PA8kHL5ltmF9I8HJwnSSbW_kAAABlS8P7E-E6Ncn-cY/edit?usp=sharing
Hello, sending my 17 year old son and his friend off on the AT in a few short months, so I really appreciate this video. Is there any chance you could share the exact list of 25 resupply points that you used? Having trouble working the spreadsheet to filter it down to 25 points. Hope that makes sense.
Backpacker Magazine published an article on April 16, 2021 titled “Could Thru-Hiking Be Bad For Your Health? A New Study Makes a Troubling Find.” I wouldn’t rely too heavily on this because it is not a real study, but I think he is on to something. Your food prep seems much more organized and healthy than the average hiker diet. I would be curious to learn if your food plan would lead to better numbers.
Thank you for the interesting stats, Lisa! We truly hope the time and effort we've poured into these boxes will pay off. We did receive some backlash that we are going to get sick of these foods, or have to give things away because of hiker cravings. It really is one big experiment for us, so we will for sure keep you updated on our health on trail. Above all else, it's going to save us a lot of time and anxiety on trail. Can't wait to be able to pick up our curated boxes and just be able to focus on the hiking.
You guys should check out the vids that gearskeptic has. His vids are very informative about calorie density, nutrition, water purification, pasteurization.
It has been a much larger undertaking than we expected. Definitely understand how it's not for everyone haha. But the dried mango totally makes up for it ;)

Yeesh, what an ordeal. But you’ll be feasting on the time savings in addition to the dried mango.
